Audio: Rush attacked for “Barack the Magic Negro” parody, explains liberal racism line-by-line

posted at 7:36 pm on May 9, 2007 by Ian

Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh was attacked recently by CBS 13 in Sacramento for parodying an LA Times op-ed in which Sen. Barack Obama was described as a “magic negro.” The channel claimed the parody song was racist and posted a poll on their website to that effect. Rush’s parody aired in early March, but that didn’t stop CBS 13 from bringing it up now. The channel even went so far as to say the song might be responsible for Obama’s heightened security. (Obama himself shrugged the song off.)

Rush has been lambasting the Sacramento news channel all this week for their hit job and has his own poll up now:

Rush Limbaugh morons poll

He even explained the song in a tutorial to listeners earlier this week, line by line to show which side of the aisle the lyrics come from. So if CBS 13 in Sacramento think Rush Limbaugh is racist, they must think the liberals who are parodying the song are racist too. Right?

Rush gives you background information on the hit here.

I think this is another stroke of genius by Rush. I think he knew along some idiots would attack him on this and he had his cannons loaded and waiting. They have been booby trapped by their own stupidity.

Wade on May 9, 2007 at 7:51 PM

Me too. Will Hot Air get a kickback from Rush for all the people sent to Rush who subscribe?

Vince, I updated most of the links to non-member posts. The last one, though, is still for rushlimbaugh.com members.

Ian on May 9, 2007 at 7:52 PM

Ian,

Your problem is that you’re not starting from the premise that Rush is a hateful, mean-spirited, bigot.

Obviously the news people of the sac are.

It’s plainly obvious to those who actually listen to his show and don’t depend on the overview given by left wing wackos that he is none of these things.

mattshu on May 9, 2007 at 7:55 PM

Racism! How about poor OJ denied service a Kentucky diner. I’m sure it is because he was an African American trying to get a meal in the South.

Valiant on May 9, 2007 at 7:56 PM

I’m sure it is because he was an African American trying to get a meal in the South

Of course, because we know the North never has racial problems or prejudice. Why, those bastions of racial tolerance like New York, Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Philly, Pittsburgh etc neeevvvveeer have any racial problems do they?

Faith1 on May 9, 2007 at 8:08 PM

Those two spoof songs ‘Barack the Magic Negro’ and ‘Ring of Fire’ (the Gore/global warming parody) are freaking hilarious.

infidel4life on May 9, 2007 at 8:11 PM

Well Obama says Rush’s little song doesn’t bother him so really it should be a non-issue.

JaHerer22 on May 9, 2007 at 8:11 PM

Well maybe I should read the whole post before commenting…attribute it to my liberal drug-fried brain.

JaHerer22 on May 9, 2007 at 8:14 PM

Silly people, only whites can be rascist! What were you thinking?

Mojave Mark on May 9, 2007 at 8:35 PM

I listened to Rush’s explanation the other day. He’s right, the folks at CBS 13 are morons! And that’s their positive attributes.

Zorro on May 9, 2007 at 8:39 PM

It was, as Rush put it, an obvious hit piece by those he called “morons” on his show. Why, Rush asked, didn’t they go after the one who originated the phrase. The irony of it all is that the phrase “Magic Negro” is a positive term toward blacks which is probably why they didn’t go after its originator. They felt, instead, that they could make headlines by going after Rush. They picked the wrong person.

If you haven’t heard the parody by Paul Shanklen it’s downright hilarious.

pocomoco on May 9, 2007 at 8:44 PM

Paul Shanklin is a comic genius of the first order. “In a Yugo” is still the best parody audio track I’ve ever heard, closely followed by “The Philanderer”.

Actually, according to Wikipedia, the term was coined by Spike Lee, but one of the links there leads us to this:

In movie circles, this figure is known as a “magic Negro,” a term that dates back to the late 1950s, around the time Sidney Poitier sacrifices himself to save Tony Curtis in “The Defiant Ones.” Spike Lee, who satirizes the stereotype in 2000′s “Bamboozled,” goes even further and denounces the stereotype as the “super-duper magical Negro.”

Freelancer,

In a Yugo is the greatest. I like the new one with Hillary’s Dialect System too. (scroll down…)

Monster,

I tried to email that Wiki stuff to Rush a few days ago, but his email system made a mess of my links and he probably thinks I’m a moonbat now!

I’ve been told to my face that I’m a real live Magic Negro.

It is the left’s new Uncle Tom meme.

What is really mind boggeling about the whole thing is how a left leaning writer got away with even using the word, “Negro”.

What up widdat?

Rush set ‘em up and like clockwork, they went for the hook.

Now THAT’S humor.

Did anyone hear Rush actually define humor for the left on his show today?

He started with Greek philosophy and went forward.

They hate Rush because he is a genius at what he does, exposing them for the out and out frauds that they are.

.

The Machine on May 9, 2007 at 9:43 PM

Never watch that channel anyway. The local NBC affiliate is much better.

Bob's Kid on May 9, 2007 at 9:51 PM

Rush’s point is that they didn’t even listen to the lyrics or even bother to research the story! It’s a leftist clap trap and a typical approach to making the news up and not reporting the real news.

I hear this kind of crap from all the major news networks, and they wonder why viewers are tuning out.

I wonder if people are getting tired of bad, fake, and inaccurate news reporting? I know I am, which is why I selectively do not watch the major affiliates, CBS, NBC, and ABC. It is all opinion and if I want opinion, I’ll watch Bill O’Reilly, especially when Michele is on.

I’ve been told to my face that I’m a real live Magic Negro.

That means that they don’t think it’s possible for black folks to be as smart/talented(/whatever special qualities set you apart from the herd) as you are.

Ever have anyone say you were ‘acting white’?

The Dream is turned on its head.

The Monster on May 9, 2007 at 10:20 PM

Whether or not someone is a racist or whether or not someone is offended is irrelevent to the race baiting Sharptons and Edwards of the world.

All they care about is will their false outrage give them traction.

The really sad thing is how often conservatives jump on board that bandwagon with self righteous attacks on our own strongest pundits in the name of “the high road”.

JayHaw Phrenzie on May 9, 2007 at 10:20 PM

Why aren’t we talking about the real issue here?

Is Obama magic or not?

Doghouse on May 10, 2007 at 2:29 AM

Well folks I think the real issue here is that the left is gathering evidence and support for the Fairness Doctrine. Be afraid, be very afraid.

No but he is crazy good at Deal or No Deal….The real issue is: is Rush on or off the dope?

I’ll take a stab at honora’s straw man argument.

The issue that liberals love to gloss over is the difference between getting addicted to a prescribed pain killer needed to make life endurable and getting addicted to drugs used for recreational purposes. Recreational purposes?!?! Just how moronic is that? The bottom line is people who use drugs need to be under a doctors care because they are, by definition, sick. The reason drugs exist is to cure illness, period.

Getting back to the topic, I’m amazed at how many jump right on the race baiting band wagon. It is impossible not to get the facts on how, and why the parody came into existence so I’ll have to blame liberal ignorance on recreational drug abuse. Nothing else makes sense. :oP

1. That’s pretty funny.
2. They call it hillbilly heroin for a reason. Same reason it’s a big, big commodity in the street drug biz.

Argue with honora? In the immortal words of George H. W. Bush “Not gun duh it”

OK, so please wax elloquent and share the reason. I’ll share this $634.500,000 rebuttal.

Life is such a bitch when you are a liberal.
