While the State Militia’s job isn’t disaster relief, disaster relief in their home State is more appropriate than giving democracy to desert trash Iraq. I have a severe problem with the State Militias becoming simply another branch of the federal military. Hiraghm on May 9, 2007 at 12:12 PM

George Bush who willed Katrina to NOLA, also willed this tornado to KS (isn’t KS, NE, OK, MO tornado alley?) and now he’s down there soaking up the sorrow. Where was he on Monday, why wasn’t he there, partying with the Queen. He sure took his darn long time getting down there, guess he don’t like white people either. Darn that Evil Bush. Sarc off.
This woman is a complete blundering idiot. Also, this reporter on Fox just called it “The Katrina of the Prarie”. Okay, what is going on here in this country? Since when is it the federal governments job to be on the scene first? The idiot Gov. got the ball rolling with her inaccurate National Guard story and now wants to bring it back to milk it for more dim garbage.

To be totally honest, Hiraghm, it’s not the state militia…it’s the National Guard. When they have a federal mission it trumps the state mission. The Guard is part of the Total Force concept…thanks to the Defense Reorganization Act, there are Guard units which perform wartime duties that are not found anywhere in the Active Duty or Reserve forces. Therefore it is totally impossible to go to war without them.

I agree with tickleddragon in wondering why it’s now the gov’t's job to handle disasters.

I agree with James that the State Militia’s job is not to deal with disasters, but to defend the State.

I do object to the State Militias being sent in to Iraq, Afghanistan, Nicaragua, etc… always have.

Our State Militia was sent to S. America a few years ago for a training exercise… I tried looking around the State to see where we have ~~jungles~~ rainforests…

thisis what really pisses me off about the dems (besides all the partisan lying, and laying down for the muslims to walk all over them) . They expect the feds to be there for them when it’s something like disaster recovery, or welfare for everyone or all kinds of help for illegal aliens…. but God forbid if the federal government wants to do something outrageous like wiretapping phone calls coming and going to terrorist countries or employ the Patriot Act to make us all safer. And I’m not saying that the feds shouldn’t be there for natural disasters, they should, but perhaps if the state governors cannot make timely decisions, then the feds ought to be able to act.

And Harry Reid, how pathetic can that man get?

I don’t believe Keith Sebelius ever served as a senator. He served in the House for 8 terms. Senator Frank Carlson’s senate seat went to Bob Dole and then Sam Brownback.

If the governor is incompetently or maliciously unable to deliver first line emergency assistance which deployment is 100% based on the executive order of the governor, then he or she has failed, in this case, HER sworn duties and responsibilities to the people of the state AND has mismanaged the very expensive and tax-payer paid resources that were purchased for just such occasions.
The Dems are wasting a lot of tax-payer money, and emboldening our enemies with their nationally irresponsible attempts to force a coup by threatening impeachment against President Bush.
Let the voters start the termite action against the governors and mayors who truly fill the criteria for abuse of office.
