Retired Marine colonel preaches: Killing jihadis is an act of love

posted at 8:53 pm on May 7, 2007 by Allahpundit

I think I might finally have found the religion for me.

Ryberg, who served in the Marines for more than 27 years, gave a sermon Sunday morning at Good Shepherd Baptist Church’s Armed Forces Day, where some of the 150 people in attendance often erupted with an “Amen!”…

While he was in the Marines, Ryberg said, he was often asked, “If you’re a Christian, why do you want to go to war to kill people?” Ryberg said he wants Americans to understand that it’s an act of love to kill evil people who seek to kill Americans.

“If we do take their life, they will kill no more. It’s an act of love for our nation,” Ryberg said.

But no, on this one too I must pass. Because then he says this:

“God gaveth long before our nation was born. It’s always been on the books. And [the Bible] is the highest law of the land,” Ryberg said. “And I want to let you know our Supreme Court, they’re not supreme, only God is. And [the Bible] is the supreme law of the land, and the buck stops here.”

I know where this atheist is going when he needs to give his spiritual side a tune up.

You sure bring up your atheism a lot AP. Kinda preachy.

Agnosticism! Agnosticism! Sis Boom Bah!

Because it’s usually good for 100+ comments. Plus, there was nothing preachy here; it’s essentially just a blockquote from an interesting article.

I’m guessing “Onward Christian Soldiers” is the hymn of choice for this faith.

Slublog on May 7, 2007 at 9:27 PM

I would justify the action by saying that I am defending the least of these from the actions of evil men, even if it means I lay down my life. Then ask the question for those who disagree: “Know that dialogue is not an option. So, which is better? To allow evil to prosper or face it down even if it means use of force.”

Evangelical Atheism FTW!

There are and will always be those, in any religious community, that feel the need to make such statements within their own group for applause. When this guy is leading any signinificant group that might actually threaten our Constitution, get back to me.

See Allah! if you’d been paying attention. Didn’t you ever hear the sayimg ‘Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition’?When the rubber meets the road and all the theories, philosophies and idiologies break down Christianity (on a personal level)still works. I don’t see anywhere in the Bible where it says to get involved in politics. I’m thinking SOME of this countries leading theologians might be either misguided or have questionable motives. A nice quiet example (witness) is the way to lead as far as I am concerned. After that it boils down the the moral issue for me. Can science/philosophy give us morals? What are the benchmarks (if any) for respect of another persons human rights and where do they (rights) come from? I have been reading your posts about God and such and see that you seem to take a position mostly of blaming religion for many of problems of society. I realize that you are an educated man and am attempting to make a serious inquiry as it pertains to the moral/ethics/principals elements of the human experience. Whats the alternative in a democratic society?

Isaiah 9:6

For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

At the exteme risk of being deleated and banned…..

The most precious, greatest gift bestowed upon humans by God is the lives of ourselves and our families (not nessesarily in that order). What could be more rightious, more justified, more holy than protecting them from proven true evil? Protecting the nation from all forms of the encroachment of that evil is simply a natural extention.

That being said, in this country (at least at the moment) death on sight is out of the question. But we as a nation could at least recognise the danger, the true nature of the beast, and marginalize it the same way it’s evil twin, the NAZIs, have been and still are. They should be investigated, discused openly, pointed out for all to see, called what they are and eliminated (as much as possible) from our lives. If then it continues to forces it’s evil upon us, it should be dealt with in the only way a pre-dark ages, mysoginistic, rasist, discrimitory, destuctive (even to itself) socio-political-econonic system it is.

Peace, and been glad to have the privilage exchange views with you all.

I’m not at all religious, in fact the last time I was in a church was before I got a drivers license but it doesn’t bother me one bit that the colonel is religious. So don’t count me as one of those vicious Christian haters on par with Allah.

Howz about this gem from the book of Prverbs in the bible (20:26).

A wise king finds the wicked, lays them out like wheat, then runs the crushing wheel over them.

Amen and semper fi.

How does a 100+ comment section help you? I only see how this subject divides people who otherwise think very similarly.

A little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough and should be purged out.1Cor 5:6,7,and 8.
I can see an application toward Jihadi’s here and their phony religion.
Love doesnt work when its dirtied up.I’ll stick with free salvation and the tender mercies of my savior.Real love there.

I don’t know.

What I do is that, in case of a fight, I wouldn’t have to think very long on the question:

“Who do I side with? Michael Newdow or Marine COL (Ret.) Ryberg?”

Misha I on May 7, 2007 at 11:31 PM

Look, would someone who respects religion even notice that the colonel quoted the bible much less use it as a reason to dismiss him? I’m not at all religious but obviously Allah is much smarter than I am, you see I have no idea if there is some higher being or not. Therefore I respect almost all religions and those who don’t believe.

True that!

Newdow looks pretty much worthless unless you’re looking to score some good weed. And no, I’ve never done the stuff.

It makes for a more interesting blog. The comments are terminally boring when I post only stuff on which everyone agrees. This is one of the few subjects where we can have genuine principled disagreement.

I know I love it. I’m another one of those conservative atheists but am perfectly willing to toss something in the collection plate during services at the Church of the Truly Dead Jihadi. I can feel the Love already.

I just assumed that AP makes a commission of $.001 per comment as part of his lucrative HA contract. :D

Yes, it IS an act of love … and we love it when our Troops kill jihadis! Every dead jihadi is one less jihadi tryin’ to blow up a schoolbus full of children.

I fully agree with you on this one Allah. Nothing like a good old debate amongst friends to take our minds off the often depressing reality, because frankly, I personally often get badnews overload and appreciate the chance to get away from that.

Aylios on May 8, 2007 at 7:40 AM

Well concentrating on the “other” issue he brings up, I will say that the Bible is the ultimate authority for me. I recognize that I’m supposed to support my leaders and government. However if it came down to a choice between what our government said to do vs what scripture said to do then I’m choosing scripture.

Benaiah on May 8, 2007 at 8:16 AM

i honestly don’t know where people get the idea that going to war and killing evil is un-christian and against the Bible, or an offense against God.

That’s the title of a song. When I was in grade school, we sang that one during the school music program -in a public school. What are the chances of that happening today?

What about Rosie O’Donnell? You don’t think that AllahPundit posts “The View” because her finds her attractive, do you? (Say it ain’t so.) Rosie draws PLENTY of traffic. Rosie posts sorta’ remind me of the “group hate” sessions found in George Orwell’s 1984.
