Fred! talked about terror, immigration, health care, social security, bipartisanship, Iran, and Iraq. Specifically on Iraq, he said if we leave Iraq the world would be a more dangerous place. As long as Iraqis have a chance, we should give them an opportunity to work there. He said his own worst feeling is if we leave, the worst set of circumstances would be left behind.
The entire speech lasts 25 35 minutes. I’ve broken up the clips into four parts for your viewing convenience.

Yet, he still didn’t declare.

That’s up all in one piece as a Google video — there’s a link in one of the Power Line Forum threads and at my place — but Google being Google it will probably be taken down as “objectionable” by morning. Thanks for posting it where they can’t block it.
bdfaith on May 5, 2007 at 7:49 PM
Not exactly, but I did like that “… in case this politics thing doesn’t work out” line.
Fred!/Joementum! ‘08!
bdfaith on May 5, 2007 at 7:51 PM
Started nervous and a little Reagan pandering, ended energized and focused. I loved it. In the ‘who won the debate’ thread I posted what I thought his strong points were. Still feel the same. I believe he has the fire in his belly and will let the chips fall where they may. Mitt/Rudy/Fred!….the only three who will be standing on main street, high noon, the Monday before SuperTuesday.
Limerick on May 5, 2007 at 7:56 PM
I immediately thought of the final scene from “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” when I read that!
Bradky on May 5, 2007 at 7:59 PM
Yeah, if the final scene from TG,TB, &TU featured Ward Cleaver, Mr. Furley, and the Man With No Name Other Than Fred!
Steve LLamabutcher on May 5, 2007 at 8:06 PM
Listen to the kids, Fred! Do it for them. Your country needs you.
bdfaith on May 5, 2007 at 8:17 PM
Mark these words: “Fred will run”
I’m going to say within the next week or two he will declare.
The final straw was, right at the beginning of that first segment, where Fred says “If this politics thing doesn’t work out…”
JetBoy on May 5, 2007 at 8:18 PM
I was up waaay too late to see if he would ‘do the deed’.
Come ON Fred!!

Here’s the transcript of the speech.

Because you’re a guy…
On the more serious topic on why Mr. Thompson hasn’t declared yet (merely a formality by now – when Ronald Reagan’s team is for you and your wife is for you running, it’s done/over), his contract on L & O will expire sometimes in June. I predict he will declare shortly after.
The Equal Time Rule…
Entelechy on May 5, 2007 at 8:33 PM
Guilty as charged! Doink Doink (law and order cue)
I do think you are right about the timing.
Bradky on May 5, 2007 at 8:43 PM
According to the groupies, he doesn’t really have to. He’s just gonna show up on election day and be assigned the office of POTUS.
csdeven on May 5, 2007 at 9:21 PM
Allright allready! Announce,Win,Kick Ass,Make Money ,Build Library NEXT!!

I am going to miss seeing the older episodes of L&O for the next 8 years.

There is so much milk and cookies to pull out of this video. I don’t know where to begin. Wow!
Egfrow on May 5, 2007 at 11:12 PM
I’m getting a man-crush on Fred. If it comes down to Fred (what a great name for politics) and whoever the Dhemocrats run, it’s gonna be Fred hands down. Any self respecting man wouldn’t want to lose his male-parts by voting for Hitlery Clinton.
Mojave Mark on May 5, 2007 at 11:45 PM
Watching him and listening to him is like wrapping up in a nice warm blanket, safe and sound. Man oh man.
Glynn on May 5, 2007 at 11:45 PM
Now that was funny!

Exactly right on border security. Secure the borders and ports, stop the bleeding, then — and only then — sit down in good faith and determine the domestic solution to 15 million illegal aliens in residence.
Jaibones on May 6, 2007 at 12:14 AM
I agree (re: the border) that instead of worrying about the 12 million that are already here we need to worry about the 12 million to come and the 12 million after that. Good grief why can’t everyone see that if millions of Mexicans looking for work can walk across the border God only knows how many terrorists can do it. Such common sense is uncommon in politics. Loved the “secure the border and then we can have a discussion” (probably misquoted, sorry).
Yeah, I get that cozy warm blanket feeling too.
Buzzy on May 6, 2007 at 12:28 AM
I also grudgingly agree that his words on the partisan atmosphere have the ring of truth. Making peace with the maggot left has to be part of the goal of a unified, irrepressable America in our war against the IslamoFascists.
Jaibones on May 6, 2007 at 12:33 AM
Fred! is the candidate that everyone was hoping to get back in 2000, but I’m glad that his time is now, and wasn’t then. I was just a kid when Reagan was president, but I’ve seen enough of his speeches to say that Fred! is another Reagan. I look forward to his Presidency. He will be able to unite the country in a way that no one has since Reagan.
Fred! ‘08 !!!!!!!
j_ehman on May 6, 2007 at 12:33 AM
Such a good speaker. If there’s one thing Hillary didn’t pick up from her husband was his speaking ability. Her voice is like nails on a chalk board and she’s so arrogant it hurts but Fred comes across as if he’s not a politician at all.
Yakko77 on May 6, 2007 at 12:35 AM
Yawn… Bored now (with you.)
tickleddragon on May 6, 2007 at 1:01 AM
VOTE FRED THOMPSON.
HE is the REAL DEAL.
Maybe he can bitch slap Sean Penn for me with his 6′6′ frame.
msipes on May 6, 2007 at 4:13 AM
I like the man.
I wish he’d declare and run for it.
georgej on May 6, 2007 at 4:41 AM
Uhhhh. Hello people. freddie boy just SOUNDS like another Reagan. He doesn’t have near the executive experience that Reagan did and no matter how great a politicians rhetoric sounds, he still has to be able to manage people who are much smarter than himself and motivate those on the other side of the asile. fred has done none of that.
I understand the frustration within the conservative movement and the desire to have another Reagan. It isn’t going to happen. Times have changed and the Reagan years are over. If we keep expecting our candidates, and non-candidates in freds case, to be another Reagan, well, no one could operate under that kind of pressure.
We need a candidate that espouses conservative values and has the practical experience to get others to implemant those values across the political landscape.
fred IS NOT that guy. He is an actor more than he is a politician.
Having said that, and before anyone else gets all pissy again, I’m still going to wait for him to actually have to speak without a prepared statement or in an enviroment where he gets thrown softball questions he can whack out of the park (like the interview with Hannity) before I make any kind of permanent judgement. But he has to announce first.
csdeven on May 6, 2007 at 8:34 AM
That’s really ironic coming from you, because I’ve been bored with you for a much longer period of time.
csdeven on May 6, 2007 at 8:35 AM
It is becoming more and more difficult for people to hear what he says and how he says it, and still dismiss him. With every appearance, every speech, every Paul Harvey substitution, Fred! gains supporters.
Entelechy has already provided the logic for why he hasn’t announced yet. The moment he does, Law and Order episodes featuring Fred! become a political issue, instead of just entertainment. It would be damaging to NBC for that to happen, and he simply won’t allow himself to be responsible for it.
csdeven, your application of the term “groupie” as an insult isn’t going to cause anybody to change their opinion of Sen. Thompson. Those who support him do so NOT because he’s an identifiable face. They do so because of his integrity, candor, and adherance to constitutional principles and conservative ideals. If you are as sick of reading favorable comments about him as you suggest, stop reading threads with his name on them. You know what you’re going to find, quit acting like you’re disappointed to find it.
Freelancer on May 6, 2007 at 8:56 AM
Wrong again. It takes only a moment of research to discover that Sen. Thompson’s political career began shortly after gaining his law degree, and that his deep involvement in political matters has never stopped even during his acting career. An activist/lobbyist pressing for regulatory reform for almost two decades is not elected office, but you’re deluded if you fail to call lobbyists politicians.
Ahh, never mind. You’re convinced he’s unqualified, I’m not going to change that.
Freelancer on May 6, 2007 at 9:03 AM
“Lobbying” is not a qualification for POTUS. Where are his executive skills? Jeeze, at least Clinton was a governor.
And you’re right. YOU aren’t going to change that as long as you keep ignoring his weaknesses and promoting his rhetoric. Where’s the meat? When was the last time he had to speak without a prepared speech? When was the last time he had a confrontational interview? Hannity is not an interview, it’s an infomercial.
csdeven on May 6, 2007 at 9:39 AM
Jeeze. You just can’t make this stuff up.
I never said I wanted to. If my comments make you feel weakness in your support for him, maybe you need to re-read what I wrote, or re-think your status as a fred groupie.
I never said that. They have gone gaa-gaa over him because his rhetoric tickles their ears. His rhetoric is very hypnotic but that’s about it. fred needs to do several things before his speechs mean a damn thing other than cheerleading. These would be just a start….
1) Become a candidate
2) Engage in discussion in an unfriendly enviroment
3) Debate his opponents
4) Explain why he has the skills required to be an executive of a major entity
We can debate his worthiness as a candidate to BE a candidate for the office of president, but I refuse to debate the guy as a candidate for POTUS when he clearly is not. And it was a poll including him in with actual candidates that started my little cause.
Lastly, I read fred threads in the hopes of finding some rational conservatives. And why wouldn’t I be disapointed to find hair renting groupies on a conservative blog?
csdeven on May 6, 2007 at 9:54 AM
Was rootin’ for Newt; now, Fred’s my man.
oldelpasoan on May 6, 2007 at 10:06 AM
Fred will run and Fred will win. No executive experience? Kinda like John Skerry had no executive experience? Hmmm. No executive experience is okay if your a dim, but a no-no if your a republican. I see.
Neocon Peg on May 6, 2007 at 11:20 AM
Wow, that’s lacking in creativity even from you.
tickleddragon on May 6, 2007 at 11:42 AM
And your reference to the waffle and the traitorous dems is for what reason?
csdeven on May 6, 2007 at 11:53 AM
I have another issue with freddie boy that maybe one of you supporters! can answer.
If fred is going to announce in June, why doesn’t he just say so now? McCain did. Does it have something to do with his contract with whatever TV show he is on?
csdeven on May 6, 2007 at 12:09 PM
Just pointing out the hyprocrisy of the left. Skerry pointed out that Bush should not be POTUS because he never served in Viet Nam, yet it was fine to elect a president who was a draft dodger.
Neocon Peg on May 6, 2007 at 12:20 PM
Ok. For a second there I thought you were suggesting that I am a democrat. Arggggh! That would be too much. :-)
csdeven on May 6, 2007 at 1:26 PM
I feel really giddy today. Champagne, which I don’t even like, on the ready to toast the win of Mr. Sarkozy :) :) :)
csdeven, dearest, here’s a special gift for you, the best Fred! infomercial, so far.
The more the Left and csdeven protest, the happier I get. Please, csdeven, don’t listen to the other protestations on these threads, asking you to take a ‘leave’. Just stick around and keep harping. I love it!!!
tickledragon, great one, csdeven compared you to Mr.
GoreBore. I would not take that very seriously. Keep on loving whomever you please.I predict that Mr. Thompson will carry my state, California.
Entelechy on May 6, 2007 at 1:27 PM
Dearest Entelechy – no worries. He no longer touches me.
Go Fred! Go!

Entelechy
Although that was a “gift” for csdeven, thank you for posting it. Good stuff. After watching that, there is no doubt in my mind that he will run!
Neocon Peg on May 6, 2007 at 2:27 PM
That Breitbart lovefest was an indication of what? That freddie boy has a extensive repertoire of folksy colloquialisms? Sorry to break it to you, but that kind of rhetoric is gonna get old reaaaallll fast. Especially when he has to face people who aren’t slobbering all over themselves to accomodate his self agrandizements. He avoided the announcement issue, as well as the executive experience question. There were no tough follow ups to challenge his superficial orations. The “interviewer” (more likely his campaign manager) tossed up softball questions that he whacked out of the park. When asked about experience, he talked about TALKING about issues as if talking about issues makes them happen. fred is limiting his exposure to media types that are very friendly.
Lets see if I can put it in a term that fred will understand.
On fred not announing….Round here that dog don’t hunt.
csdeven on May 6, 2007 at 2:28 PM
csdeven, you argue with yourself – I named it an infomercial. That should have ended the argument.
However, he did address the “executive experience” – he said that Mr. Carter had it. We know the rest.
My advice to Mr. Thompson w/b to go it alone, to not join the pack, to ignore the media, to not debate in every itsy-bitsy gathering ot the great, and the small. Those are just a waste of time and entertainment for the masses and aggrandizement for so-called-media, like Mr. Matthews.
He should campaign like he did for the Senate seat – talking to the people, on all sides.
My most pressing issues:
- War on Terror and Security
- Part of it too, the Border control
- Keep the Government in check and as much out of my life as possible
- Economy
- Social Security
- Some civility
I like what Mr. Thompson says, and always has said about these. I love his indolent strength, a contradiction of terms, but that is what he is, and in time we’ll get to understand this, since he can reach the masses, in his simple way. He is simple but not a simpleton. People love down-to-earth, non-elitist snobs, who assure and represent them.
I don’t care what the rest of the world thinks of us. The other issues are good for debates afterward.
Anyway, I harbor no anymosity toward you whatsoever. I’m happy we’re all free to believe and to support whomever we please. Regards,
Entelechy on May 6, 2007 at 2:42 PM
Entelechy you and I need to join forces and get see-dubya to put up a french election topic. I’m the mood for some french moonbat bashing today.
Did you hear the line Royal used about fighting in the streets if Nicky won?
We need a Zawahiri thread too. He and the dems are on the same side of the defeat the USA issue.
csdeven on May 6, 2007 at 2:48 PM
STOP TEASING US FRED!
Iblis on May 6, 2007 at 2:54 PM
csdeven, agree!!! I’m so giddy. The stations have closed and we should hear soon from the French media.
I read that – if the Left wins, it’s always democracy, if the conservatives win, it’s dictatorship (see Mexico, see here…)
Here’s toasting to Mr. Sarkozy. I could never stomach Mr. Chirac, and he was the so-called conservative. Hoping for a real leader for France, which is one of the most beautiful countries. They deserve to be greater.

Newsmen have to write stories. They can be both positive and negative but they don’t mean much. Unless something major and unexpected happens Fred is going to be the next president.
duff65 on May 6, 2007 at 5:54 PM
I love your attitude. It’s “Kelly’s Heroes” money quote time, all the way.
Nobody’s asking you to be a hero.
No?
Then you sit up in that turret, baby.
No. ‘Cause you’ll be up there, baby. And I’ll be right outside showing you which way to go.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Crazy. I mean, so many positive waves,
maybe we can’t lose. You’re on.

Please stop teasing us. Please make your campaign announcement.
Now I know what my family felt listening to Reagan in 1980.

csdeven, actor more than politician? You might consider that his first acting role was playing the character of…Fred Thompson. He was involved in politics from the get-go. Here in Tennessee, we knew him well from Watergate on up to the Blanton clemency scandal. google it.
Barntender on May 6, 2007 at 8:59 PM
Tell that to the people he spoke to on Friday night. They introduced him with music from a TV show he apparently has a role in.
I am simply not impressed with the groupie mentality that fawns all over him because they are smitten by his folksy charm and unchallenged rhetoric. Let him announce that he will announce and put himself up to the criticizm that the real candidates have exposed themselves to and I’ll start to take him, and his groupies, seriously.
csdeven on May 6, 2007 at 9:31 PM
Fred might just want to be President. More importantly, he might just want to lead the conservative movement.
