McSkeevey wants to be an Episcopal Priest

Pretty much overnight, Ted Haggard’s status changed from “respected man of the cloth” to “out-of-work, two-timing creep with serious sexual and honesty issues”.
Now disgraced New Jersey ex-Governor James McGreevey figures, hey, maybe we can take that the other way…
McGreevey, who often described himself as a devout Catholic while in public office, was officially received into the Episcopal religion on Sunday, at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Manhattan.
He also has been accepted into the Master of Divinity program at Manhattan’s renowned General Theological Seminary, seminary spokesman Bruce Parker said in a statement this afternoon.
I like how he joined the church and entered the priest-training program at the same time. Shows initiative.
Now, I’m not one to knock the transformative power of God. Look at Chuck Colson, who really turned his life around after Watergate and founded a prison ministry. But is McGreevey really that gung-ho? Is he penitent? Time will tell, but Michael Bates is suspicious:
While some commenters on the above linked article thought that McGreevey’s history of corruption and dishonesty — particularly cheating on his wife with a man, and putting said man on the public payroll as head of the state’s homeland security office — might disqualify him from the Episcopal priesthood, others suggested he was not only qualified, he was bishop material.
MB goes on to look at the turf war amongst the Episcopalians, and how often it is exactly that–the church hierarchy threatening to take away the church property of churches that try to preach and follow orthodox Christianity.
More on the Anglican turf wars–on an intercontinental scale–in the Washington Times.

So sad it is funny.

New Jersey deserves no better.
Jaibones on May 3, 2007 at 9:50 PM
He also wants to blame his poor wife for Homophobia. What a morally lost fool.
abinitioadinfinitum on May 3, 2007 at 9:52 PM
Paul told us how to select elders/bishops in Titus 1:5-11 and it didn’t include men who cheat on their wives with men. Once the “blameless, the husband of one wife” principle was abandoned by some organizations, we see what happened. Mess like this.
IndependentConserv on May 3, 2007 at 9:56 PM
It’s pathological, my friend. 15 minutes is never enough.
Nice nic, BTW. Glad to know common sense is not extinct!
common sensineer on May 3, 2007 at 9:59 PM
In order to get into office in New Jersey you have to have paid off, been corrupted by, and not the least blown off your friends and enemies….
In a Soprano kinda way…, and in McCreepys way also.

Dear McSkeevy,

Well, it is episcopalian, after all. It’s not like we’re talking about him becoming a christian.

Friends we know attend the local Episcopal church nearby. It has a big gay membership and the parents admitted, “We go because they have the best choir in five counties, but that’s the only reason.”
Needless to say, they are not getting any spiritual guidance of any worth, though they are feeling a strong need for it. They just have no idea where to go. The rising Third World, no nonsense pastors and priests who have experienced REAL persecution and know what it looks like and what it feels, like are poised to rejuvenant the denominations. The intrenched Lefties will not go willingly nor will they release assets without being forced to. McGreevey is simply finding “sanctuary” among the Old Guard Left.

In fifteen years the conservative Anglicans will rejoin communion with the Catholics, and the liberal Anglicans will become the Church of the Goracle.
Iblis on May 3, 2007 at 10:47 PM
I don’t know how renowned it really is…I mean, I am a Seminary grad, but it never hit my radar, probably because I am not Episcopal. BUT - my point…any Seminary named “General Theological Seminary,” doesn’t seem to me like they would take a hard stand on too much, including who they might train for the priesthood. I don’t know the Seminary, so maybe that’s not fair, but…General Seminary?
nailinmyeye on May 3, 2007 at 10:51 PM
It could go that way, indeed. It’s a lot easier to dump the King of England than the Pope.
naliaka on May 3, 2007 at 11:00 PM
Ouch. The Episcopal “church” is splitting as others have noted. The fault lines are conservatives who control only a fraction of the diocese and the liberals who dominate the leadership. It was the same battle that happened in the universities. Once leftists got in they did their best to shut out anyone with traditional values.
Ironically, it is the conservatives in the third world, mainly Africa, who are helping conservative Americans set up new parishes and fight the bully bishops who try and strip them of their orders. It’s all very disgusting. The silver lining is a lot of Episcopalians woke up to what is happening to them and fled.
Fr. McSkeevy, he has truly found a home in the godless Episcopal circus.

Oddly enough…this makes me want to sing…
ahem…’Where..the boys are..that’s where I’ll be…’

Mahalo a Aloha!
I believe this guy McCreepy is using Religion as a convenience to hide his corruption. Not that he’ll be called on that.
But most religions are about forgiveness, but what about penance?
Kini on May 4, 2007 at 12:00 AM
Hmm..Catholic priest training. Seems to be a gathering ground for the recovering and those who want to appear repentant. Just get a van and a puppy and be done with it, pervert. Wow! Am I in a cranky mood today, or what?
thedecider on May 4, 2007 at 12:12 AM
See-Bubya the John 11-35 reference is poignant. This guy is a skeez! He must have been drinking flaming moe’s to do what he did. This is not an effort by McSkeevey to repent but to carry on with impunity moreover authority.
sonnyspats1 on May 4, 2007 at 12:24 AM
Kini, don’t let the secret of your place and food out too much :) Those dogs are beautiful. Those berries you didn’t name might be salmonberries.
Your humor, and good spirits are always uplifting.
What’s this thread about? Confused people? I hope this guy finds out who he is or wants to be soon, and gives us all a brake.
Entelechy on May 4, 2007 at 12:51 AM
Mahalo Entelechy! As usual, your wisdom is always appreciated and welcomed!
I guess it’s like guys who wear earrings, on one ear, left or right, decipher that statement, and in both ears, confused, I guess?
In McCreepy’s case, slick back greased hair, a cheesy smile, a book deal, and a contrite Oprah guest appearance, would make a genuine person of that persuasion…., a little, aghast I suppose.
But then again, there’s Rosie O’Donnell. And like McGreevey, a public figure, cheapens us all.
Kini on May 4, 2007 at 2:50 AM
The churches and even whole Diocese that have left the Episcopal Church are doing uniformly well and the reason EC wants to keep the properties is so they can sell them off to subsidize chasing more people away from the Faith. The Orthodox Anglicans are having to find room for all the new people, as it should be. The EC churches are having to hang blankets in the sanctuary to hide all the empty pews. My own church has had a huge influx of Nigerians and other Africans that had previously given up on the EC churches in the area. McCreepy couldn’t have found a better fit for himself.

Based on the Bishop of New Hampshire, who has just bumped legal with his male partner, I would say this person is bucking for Bishop of New Jersey. He seems to be following the same game plan of dumping his wife and family for a homosexual lifestyle.
Whenever Christ builds a church, Satin builds a chapel next door.
Hening on May 4, 2007 at 10:08 AM
So he failed the rigorous screening for predatory homosexuals of the Catholic Church?
I don’t care if he’s ‘Gay’… I don’t care if he cheated on his wife. But I have complained that the MainStreamMedia has demonized the Catholic Church for predatory homosexual pedophilic Priests. So… apparently you just have to be honest about it and it’s OK?
I would see this no differently if it was Paris Hilton, who has led a far less destructive life, but has demonstrated little in the way of faith and would bring the distraction of excessive celebrity to the position. If I was in authority in their Church I would simply tell her to set an example for a while before I put her in charge of guiding other people’s lives.
How is this indulgence in a celebrity good for the Church? How is it representative of the views of it’s members? How does it serve needs of it’s members?
If this was a ‘B’ script of a day-time soap-opera and I told you an adulterous Gay predator was being indulged with a position of responsibility… well… it would have to be the Episcopalians wouldn’t it?
The congregations that are growing in America are the ones that are sticking to their doctrine. To survive the Episcopalians need to dump the exploitive and self-indulgent ‘leaders’ that are destroying their faith.
But… What do you expect from a Church that split from Catholicism so Henry VIII could get a divorce?
DANEgerus on May 4, 2007 at 11:08 AM
‘Priest’ is fast becoming a synonym for ‘homosexual offender.’
PRCalDude on May 4, 2007 at 11:12 AM
Kini, hope the Big Island doesn’t come to look like Oahu in a few years. It is truly beautiful there.
I have a friend who is an Episcopalian and he’s outraged about this as well. He is saddened by what has happened to his church and is looking for a more conservative Episcopal church to attend.
Catie96706 on May 4, 2007 at 12:17 PM
I hope so also Catie, but I think it’s inevitable.
