Harry Reid and the Democrats: Not Tom Petty fans

Consistent Democrats: No matter who their enemy is, they will back down.
President Bush and congressional leaders began negotiating a second war funding bill yesterday, with Democrats offering the first major concession: an agreement to drop their demand for a timeline to bring troops home from Iraq.
Democrats backed off after the House failed, on a vote of 222 to 203, to override the president’s veto of a $124 billion measure that would have required U.S. forces to begin withdrawing as early as July. But party leaders made it clear that the next bill will have to include language that influences war policy. Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.) outlined a second measure that would step up Iraqi accountability, “transition” the U.S. military role and show “a reasonable way to end this war.”
“Reasonable.” That’s an interesting word. How is it possible to have a reasonable anything with a political opposition that’s fronted by a man who is either senile or a bald-faced liar? Or some blend of both.
Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) this week criticized Gen. David Petraeus for not meeting with members of Congress during a recent visit to Washington, D.C., to report on the status of operations in Iraq, but not only did the commander of Multinational Force – Iraq meet with hundreds of lawmakers, he personally briefed Murtha himself.
Murtha told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews on Tuesday, “They bring Petraeus back – purely political move. Petraeus comes back here. He doesn’t talk to any of us. He only talks to the news media and so forth trying to sell this program.”
But a senior Defense Department official told Cybercast News Service that Petraeus personally briefed Murtha and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in an April 24 phone conference that lasted 20-30 minutes.
The following day, Petraeus conducted two 90-minute, top-secret level operations intelligence briefings for representatives and senators.
Petraeus has been briefing Congress. The Democrats have been skipping them, but never mind that. It’s not like the war is important or anything.
Next thing you know, Rep. Murtha (D-Abscam) will be out there offering the reasonable idea that we ought to fight the war in Iraq from Okinawa. Oh, wait…

In any case, the American public is getting a good look at democrats and what they’re priorities are … the fringe base.

Such strong people, these Dems.

Darwin, I hope that the American public is getting a good view of the Dims but I have my doubts. I hope you’re right.

Harry freaking Reid.
Just imagine what a f’ing dork one must be if you chose Reid to be your leader.
there it is on May 3, 2007 at 11:13 AM
Actually, Tom Petty is a leftist BDS moonbat. Not “backing down” probably is a reference to fighting conservatism if anything. All my former heros are idiots. All my new heroes are American fighting men and women. I wish I were 19 again. My priorities would have been different. I was 19 when the “Desert One” choppers crashed. Military service didn’t seem a worthwhile option during the Carter admin. I wish I had done it anyway.

As incompent as Reid and crew are, I hope their poll numbers start *cough* Free Fallin’.

Hahaha! Reid, you suck! Haha! You thought you could override W’s veto! AAAAH-HAHAHAHAaaaaa! Now we’re gonna stay and finish the job in Iraq! HAHA! You lose … and so do your terrorist allies! HAHAHAHA! Sucks to be YOU! Hahahahahahaha!

Ya know what happens when dhimmicrats lose? AMERICA WINS!! HAHAHAhahahahaaaaaa! Fox YOU, Harry Reid! Hahahahaa!

Reid, Pelosi, Murtha… I’m speechless, and I wish they were too.
Honestly, I’m not asking them to do something crazy like support our troops and their mission but I just want them to shut their mouths for awhile so our troops can get the job done in Iraq and come home.
Sad thing is, the Prez almost has to bargain with them to keep them from harming our effort to win this thing. I just wonder how he does it. How can he negotiate with those who’s only interest is force us to retreat from the battlefield, blame it all on Bush, solely for political gain?
CliffHanger on May 3, 2007 at 11:49 AM
For proper hygene, one must remember to keep your hairy reed clean.
And don’t forget to wipe your Murtha after using the bathroom!

I had an inflamed Reid once, had to sit on an air cushion for 3 days.
JayHaw Phrenzie on May 3, 2007 at 11:59 AM
It’s easier to plead ignorant than stupid. But in this case the Democrats are just being stupid, and there is just no excuse.
Lawrence on May 3, 2007 at 12:00 PM
Has anyone else noticed Reid and Pelosi’s recent incantations about “. . .end this war”? Do they really think pulling out of Iraq ends “the war”?
I’ve been pondering this for the last couple of days and I’m reaching this conclusion:
Dem’s want to convince the American people that pulling out of Iraq ends the war. But this delusion is blind to a globe full of jihadist vipers who’ve sworn to do everything in their power to destroy America and her interests. Why would Dem’s take such a blatantly ludicrous stance?
Because war is bad for Democrat political aspirations. If there is indeed a global war against jihad the Dem’s will never be regarded as strong enough on national security to be trusted with the Presidency and they know it.
It’s why they say “end the war” instead of “win the war”. It’s why they’ve taken “global war on terror” out of their vocabulary. They can’t even face the concept of war much less it’s reality.
O.K. America, it’s cruch time! Do we put a real President in office in ’08, or a Dem ostrich? It’s our life on the line, so choose well.
The Ritz on May 3, 2007 at 12:26 PM
To think that nearly all this headache should stem from allowing liberals to define this conflict and in fact the war on terror.
Who would have thought that Republicans not stepping up to the microphone and placing a hard definition out in public and driving it home like liberals have would give liberals the surrender card in spades but they created the definition and now our country, our troops and our dignity are taking the hit.
Step up to the plate, swing hard, you might hit one.
Speakup on May 3, 2007 at 12:53 PM
Harry Reid and the Democrats… does that sound like a do-wop band to anyone else? And they’re just about as relevant to winning the war as a do-wop band, too.
Laura on May 3, 2007 at 12:55 PM
To the left who think we’ve lost in Iraq I ask, what is the difference between ousting Saddam only to face an insurgency, and ousting Hitler only to face a Soviet menace in Europe and around the globe? At least this time we face the threat head on. Was it wrong for Truman to declare “mission accomplished”? What’s the difference?
Buck Turgidson on May 3, 2007 at 12:56 PM
Spot on. Effective communication is now very, very high the list of qualities a candidate must have before he gets my vote. The media doesn’t deserve ALL the blame for this PR debacle; they were aided and abetted by Republican politicians.
Laura on May 3, 2007 at 1:10 PM
More lefty doublespeak. Whatever they say becomes truth, regardless of the facts.
Aylios on May 3, 2007 at 1:13 PM
Exactly. Here’s one of the most disappointing characteristics of Pres. Bush: He correctly pointed out the reality of a global war against jihadis, but his subsequent mumbling and bumbling performance have opened the door for War-deniers like Pelosi and Reid.

Just re-booked the vacation with the wife. Off came stops in Vegas and Virginia City. Looks like it will be the Canyonlands in Utah and Yellowstone instead. It was a real heartbreaker sending those ‘sorry can’t make it’ e-mails to the chambers of commerce. What a bummer.

Regarding the Left’s doublespeak and outright lies:
If you want to see the future the Left wants us to have, read Orwell’s 1984 and Huxley’s Brave New World. They want to reach BNW, and are willing to go through 1984 to get there.

Let’s recall that these are the guys that are afraid to debate each other on Fox.
If only Bush had shown some spine earlier.

Interesting how the Repubs don’t seem to be running away from a debate sponsored by NBC and with the vehement Conhater Chris Matthews as the moderator.

I would like to agree with you but the ‘Joe-public’ doesn’t listen to what Reid/Pelosi/Conyers say…they listen to Moyers/Couric/Lauer/O’Donnell. We care and listen, but Aunt Bee at Sac’n'Save?….not a lick. She is too busy getting home for Pope-rah. Wish I knew how to change that.
Limerick on May 3, 2007 at 2:24 PM
I saw a post a while back, can’t remember exactly where, that listed the communist manifesto and specific goals to achieve to bring about the downfall of a democracy.
There’s not a bit of difference between that document and what the dems are putting forth as their policy and doctrine right now.
I’m amazed that the GOPers aren’t whacking the dems over the head right now. So much ammunition that the dems are just handing Republicans right now.
Damnit, REPRESENT US and make USE of it!
techno_barbarian on May 3, 2007 at 2:53 PM
Maybe they won’t back down after all – http://www.qando.net/details.aspx?entry=5916
I was afraid they’d double down, and with the nutroots egging them on, they just might. Here’s hoping some sane people in their party talk some sense into them.
Laura on May 3, 2007 at 2:53 PM
No talking sense to the nutters now, please. We want them to go off the deep end. We want Stretch Pelosi to go to Iran. We need to start framing the Iraq war issue as one of hard earned victory or easy defeat. It’d also help if The Republicans would start talking up the economy. And calling for the indictments of DiFi & Cold Cash Jefferson, & Reid.
Iblis on May 3, 2007 at 3:23 PM
Exactly right, Iblis. We shouldn’t let these criminals get away with the crimes they’ve committed. I look for the blogosphere to be really influential in this next election.

Oh, I get your point… but in the meantime, the Pentagon is shuffling money around trying to keep things going. Another three months of Democratic dithering and the troops will really be hurting. While I understand the internal political benefits of the Democrats effectively starving the troops out of Iraq, I’m still not willing to see it done.
As to DiFi, Jefferson, Reid… you wish! And so do I. Repubs consistently walk past those scandals with eyes tightly shut, singing “la la la.”

Is it me, or does this face look like something that would be on the end of a Claymation male organ in a particulary bad movie nightmare?
Saying something uncanny like: “This War is Lost.” over and over, in a nasty, sibilant hiss?

I resent the most that the “Consistent Democrats” are still playing kindergarten with something this serious.
It’s like children:
- “I’m not playing with you any more”
- “Mommy, Larry hit me; he’s mean”
- “Go talk to Larry, honey; he’s really not that mean”
- “Ok, mommy, I’ll try”
- Nutroots “don’t try, he’s really dumb and mean”
- “I’m not playing again”
-
Sane constituesntsmother “you will play”- “Yes, mommy”
