Goracle’s book replaces Bible in green spa

Goracle greenism: It’s the new orthodoxy.

Visitors to the Gaia Napa Valley Hotel and Spa won’t find the Gideon Bible in the nightstand drawer. Instead, on the bureau will be a copy of “An Inconvenient Truth,” former Vice President Al Gore’s book about global warming.

They’ll also find the Gaia equipped with waterless urinals, solar lighting and recycled paper as it marches toward becoming California’s first hotel certified as “green,” or benevolent to the environment. Similar features are found 35 miles south at San Francisco’s Orchard Garden Hotel, which competes for customers with neighboring luxury hotels like the Ritz-Carlton and Fairmont.

The owner insists that he’s “not your traditional Birkenstocks and granola type of guy” and that the hotel’s green efforts are more about cutting costs than anything else.

But, dude, the Gideon Bibles are free. Goracle’s doorstopper isn’t.

Well, enviromentalism is the new religion, you know.

People gotta worship something. But Algore!??!

Ellen on May 2, 2007 at 10:15 AM

That explains the ‘tremendous sales’ attributed to his book.

DoctorDentons on May 2, 2007 at 10:21 AM

The stench of urine on the book and in the nightstand drawer will make for some lousy reading if I find one in my room. Or we can use the pages to wipe with and save toilet paper. And put the pages back for the next guest. Just recycling.

roninacreage on May 2, 2007 at 10:31 AM

You know…Gore’s book is printed at a factory that uses electricity and has pollutant byproducts. It is also made of paper which comes from trees. To be truly “green”, you can’t have a book.

Looks like a good place to promote Glenn Beck’s Goracle counterweight “Climate of Fear” tonight on HeadlineNews. The promo seems to be floating around in the Blogads to the right. If it disappears, the show is at 7 & 9 ET (and – at least where I am – also midnight).

eeyore on May 2, 2007 at 10:38 AM

Don’t they have waterless showers and pools there too?

rightside on May 2, 2007 at 10:40 AM

The “green” hotels have now placed single stacked sheets of toilet paper and have asked guests to please only use one square per bathroom visit.

CliffHanger on May 2, 2007 at 10:42 AM

I rarely go to hotels for bible study anyway, but considering environmentalism is the left’s new religion, this makes sense.

JammieWearingFool on May 2, 2007 at 10:43 AM

More lunacy from, and for, the idle and stupid rich. Were the environment left to the environmentalists, we’d all be Akons and Gores. Wasteland in the mind = wasteland in the land.

Drum on May 2, 2007 at 10:51 AM

Dude. What else can you expect from a place called the Gaia Napa Valley Hotel and Spa, other than the gospel according to Albert? In the immortal words of Coach Dennis Green….they are who we thought they were.

Kid from Brooklyn on May 2, 2007 at 10:53 AM

But, dude, the Gideon Bibles are free. Goracle’s doorstopper isn’t.

Which begs the question. If the granola guy didn’t want to seem as though he’s in Cult Gore, why kick out the free Gideons? Is there not room for two?

I mean if the message isn’t to chose Gore over God, why chose?

Esthier on May 2, 2007 at 11:01 AM

And if Howard Dean has anything to say about it, the only blacks and hispanics at this “hotel and spa” will be the cleaning staff.

I betcha it’s very expensive and only rich, white Hollywood types will ever go there.

Tony737 on May 2, 2007 at 11:05 AM

I blogged this too. I found a review on tripadvisor that said:

I’m into the green movement.
I booked two rooms for myself and an out of state client. He stayed on the upper floor in an extended king and had no complaints. I stayed in a basic king on the lower floor and was rudely woken up at 6am the next morning from the guest (contractor/worker) that was staying in the room next door. I even wear ear plugs. The walls are not properly insulated for sound. You can hear the telephone ring in the room next door.

Actually, its a C-Note per night, which is not that bad for something 15 minutes outside of Napa. A lot of people complain about the inconvenient location of the hotel. too far away to help for wine tasting, no nearby restaurants, no nearby attractions-

But they have a swan in their pond and their koi fish are carbon friendly.

BelchSpeak on May 2, 2007 at 11:10 AM

Like the old saying goes, IF you won’t believe what God says in the Bible, you WILL believe anything else…

The most awesome part of this post is the ad it’s showing directly underneath it for cheapbooks.com

Maybe I’m a dummy, but is it just a coincidence?

Viewtifulgare on May 2, 2007 at 11:30 AM

I wonder who will start the first ever AIT book burning celebration? Just like when a few churches had people throw Harry Potter books into a pile and began burning it, will we see something similar with the AIT books?

Burn, baby burn!

Kokonut on May 2, 2007 at 11:31 AM

This is all about the rich maintaining distance from us regular people. Once the Gorebot started talking about carbon offsets, I knew that this was a complete scam. So the hotel will charge you more so that they can buy carbon offsets and convince themselves that they are nobility.

So I just got 65794508164354 carbon offsets from freecarbonoffsets .

This way we can all live like Al.

Reduce, reuse, recycle, repent.

ZK on May 2, 2007 at 11:47 AM

how nice
the spa is also following sheryl crow’s suggestion but puts a suitable supply of toilet paper in the room anyway

Praise Her (Gaia)! Her grace is sufficient and overflowing! I just purchased one hundred million! Now I’m gonna go on long drive in my Hummer (well, actually, it’s just a Toyota Previa; but I can dream, eh?)

Drum on May 2, 2007 at 12:29 PM

Also coming to the Gaia Napa Valley Hotel …

For a modest fee (in the thousands, price means nothing to those committed to “save” the environment and make themselves feel good) Sheryl Crow will wipe your ass with one square of toilet paper. Just think of the bragging rights that come with that!

darwin on May 2, 2007 at 12:48 PM

I’d rather read that laughable Book Of Mormon over this piece of leftist trash!

SpiritOfCartman on May 2, 2007 at 1:32 PM

Anybody in Northern Cal who wants to go there and take pictures of the cars in the parking lot? Bet most of the guests aren’t biking up from the Bay Area.

MamaAJ on May 2, 2007 at 1:43 PM

I never noticed, but on the cover of the book is that supposed to be a hurricane coming out of a smokestack? Gore himself admits that the connection between hurricanes and carbon emission is tenuous, so the imagery is a bit hyperbolic.

Bill Ramey on May 2, 2007 at 1:45 PM

I call BS. Does anyone really believe that the Gaia Napa Valley Hotel and Spa ever had Gideon Bibles in the rooms?

Who the hell cares?

Jaibones on May 2, 2007 at 1:59 PM

We are facing a planetary emergency….

Welcome to the Gaia Napa Valley Hotel, such a lovely place
Ready a room at the Gaia Napa Valley Hotel

Ya think they’ll except my Hilton Honors Points?
How about my Airline miles?

Is room service available after 10PM?
A full service hotel with bar?

Waterless urinals stink…literally.

Tim Burton on May 2, 2007 at 3:13 PM

I think that every time someone posts a comment on hotair they should get a free carbon offset, because they could have been spending that time wiping their butts with toilet paper.

But you can use as many pages of the Goracle’s book as you need. It actually makes it more interesting (the book, that is).

cmay on May 2, 2007 at 5:32 PM

I don’t have a problem with a green hotel or spa, thats cool . I would never go to one because I won’t support Gore’s theories , besides a stinky waterless urinal belongs in a seedy gas station rest room. EEWWWW!! The Muslims from Minnisota are pushing for changes at airport restrooms only they want bidets and foot wash equiptment installed. These issues could drive a wedge in the democratic party.

Does it hurt as much to use the book as it does to read it?

roninacreage on May 2, 2007 at 10:31 AM

Spot on Ron! I’ll go you one better. I smoke in the smoke free rooms. But I can. I use the nicotine footprint offset program. I steal the soaps and shampoos from the room, and give them to homeless people to offset my smoking pollution. I just love this offset program thing…
