Biden on Saddam’s WMD: “This was not some, some Cheney…pipe dream.” Update, bumped: Video: Biden gets nasty

More red on red: Sen. Dick Durbin went to the floor of the Senate last week and claimed that members of the Senate Intelligence Committee knew that there was no WMD case for war against Iraq. Sen. Joe Biden punctured that claim on Meet the Press Sunday.

BIDEN: The weapons inspectors said he had them. He catalogued—they catalogued them. This was not some, some Cheney, you know, pipe dream. This was, in fact, catalogued. They looked at them and catalogued.

Gateway Pundit has the clip and the transcript from Sen. Biden’s Meet the Press appearance Sunday.

Update: Just when you think Biden is a reasonable Democrat, he promises to shove the Iraq bill down the President’s throat:

F*ck Dick the Weenie Durbin. When Greasy Joe puts you down, you’re down.

Jaibones on May 1, 2007 at 9:28 AM

You know there were WMDs, and I know there were WMDs.

It’s nice to hear a Dem admit it once in a while. Savor it quickly, before it’s lost in the drumbeat of ‘Bush lied’ talking points.

petefrt on May 1, 2007 at 9:30 AM

It’s just more of their conspiracy mongering. Sometimes they catch one of their own in the net. This is why their supports carry truther signs at political rallies. Everyday the move further and further away from reality and the truth.

TheBigOldDog on May 1, 2007 at 9:39 AM

My God…you know how pathetic you have to be, for Joe Biden to correct you? So, this means Saddam had WMDS, apparently everyone knew he did. Which leaves an interesting question: Where are they know?

amerpundit on May 1, 2007 at 9:47 AM

Biden is so infuriatingly inconsistent. One minute he’s blaming Hurricane Katrina, Virginia Tech, Iraq, Imus and 9/11 on the “Gingrich Revolution” and then he goes and talks like a responsible adult.

Dudley Smith on May 1, 2007 at 9:48 AM

Biden’s dope must have worn off for him to have a lucid moment. I just wish more dems would sober up for awhile and re-enter reality.

stonemeister on May 1, 2007 at 9:57 AM

about time…now if this guy would speak truthfully when everyone else claims that bush lied

question: I thought Bush was supposed to be stupid, but they got duped by his lies?

pmoshields on May 1, 2007 at 10:01 AM

Wow…Biden deviated from the nutroots-approved talking points.

If he suddenly disappears, we’ll know why.

flipflop on May 1, 2007 at 10:03 AM

Greasy Joe’s hypocrisy was on full display on MTP. I couldn’t stop laughing.

Biden:

I would argue, since 1994 with the Gingrich revolution, ladies and gentlemen, just take a look at Iraq, Venezuela, Katrina, what’s gone down in Virginia Tech, Darfur, Imus. Take a look. This didn’t happen accidentally, all of these things. Since 1994, from the Gingrich revolution to Karl Rove and President Bush, we have wallowed, wallowed in the politics of polarization.

Yet a few minutes earlier he said this:

It (the vote) allowed the president to go to war. It did not authorize him to go to it. You make it sound like it said, “Mr. President, go to war.” It said, “Mr. President, don’t go to war.” It said “go to the United Nations. Mr. President, don’t go to war, try to get a deal here. Mr. President, get the inspectors back in. Mr. President, tell us that that’s what you’re about to do. And, Mr. President, if all else fails, you have authority to use force.” That’s what it said.

Which is what the president DID DO! The inspectors went back in and Saddam frustrated them at every turn. Bush already had authorization from the UN to go to war and was not going to call for another vote that the Chinese et al could veto. (A veto, BTW, whose sole purpose was to keep concealed the fact that they were involved in violating the oil for food program.) Hey, greasy Joe? ALL ELSE HAD FAILED!!!!

Exit question for greasy Joe…..WHO is engaged in the politics of polarization? You friggen tool!

Didn’t I see this on an episode of Cops? “Crack? What [gulp, swallow] crack? I’m innocent! [gag]. Police brutality!

… along with his managing to pull off 9/11 without a single leak by a patriotic whistleblower. (sarc, of course)

MSM crucifixion of Biden beginning in 3…..2…..1…

BacaDog on May 1, 2007 at 10:44 AM

Is he talking about the ones we knew he had as in the 1991 crap, or new stuff or what. I’m assuming the 1991 stuff, which makes me wonder what Durbin said.

Dash on May 1, 2007 at 11:02 AM

Biden is a typical Democrat . . . they lie about their lies then become confused about which lie is the right lie. What a sorry dolt.

rplat on May 1, 2007 at 11:17 AM

i love that word…..dolt

pmoshields on May 1, 2007 at 11:25 AM

Looks like the communist propaganda machines are syncronizing at full speed ahead. The Democrats are under the control and influence of Moaists. Russia has fired up it’s sources in the Media again to demonize the USA while playing the victim. All this is occuring directly in front of our faces. We have learned nothing.

Egfrow on May 1, 2007 at 11:25 AM

Syria has the WMDs. Could it be any other way?

unamused on May 1, 2007 at 11:37 AM

No, biden, it was a harry reid pipedream, get your facts straight.

tormod on May 1, 2007 at 11:45 AM

Exit question: Who ever thought Biden was a reasonable democrat?

Answer: Terrorists.

csdeven on May 1, 2007 at 12:03 PM

I was going to write something snarky, but I listened to it a couple more times and I don’t think he saying what you indicate, Bryan. My impression is that Biden is saying when President vetoes the bill, Biden is going to take out the funding for the redesigned humvees (MRAPs) and shove it down the Presidents throat.

Joe Katzman did a post last week about Biden’s efforts in this regard.

It’s silly constituent (voter) rousing for Biden to respond to the question that way because Bush would sign a bill containing only that military provision in an instant, even if ladened with an equivalent in pork.

What’s funny, though, is that Biden did the whisper routine of what he’d do with such a bill. Could it be he didn’t want other Dem leaders to know he would cave on the timeline, or was there a Code Pinker within earshot? Such a whimp.

Dusty on May 1, 2007 at 12:10 PM

I distinctly remember provisions for “shoving legislation down the President’s throat” somewhere in the Constitution.

It’s in there, isn’t it?

Corky on May 1, 2007 at 12:10 PM

‘combover’ biden and hair ried…what a TEAM…you poor Dems really got a leadership team here…ANYBODY INSPIRED…???…combover biden has a really ‘good’ chance of being President…yeah right!!!

areseaoh on May 1, 2007 at 12:21 PM

Dusty on May 1, 2007 at 12:10 PM

I can give Biden credit for his efforts to get the MRAP to our troops. BUT, he could have made sure they got that money ASAP had he resisted the Dem leaderships insistance to pass a garbage bill that they KNEW the president would veto. In effect he is trying to push and pull at the same time.

I don’t know which, or if both actions on his part are purely political. Is he giving himself some political cover so he can claimed he supported the troops or is the political cover to prove to the nutroots that he was against the war? I do not know how the guy REALLY feels, so until then, his efforts against the troops are a serious cause for concern and he will not get any benefit of the doubt from me.

Why is Biden talking to Beetlejuice?

Travis Bickle on May 1, 2007 at 2:05 PM

Just when you think Biden is a reasonable Democrat,…

Am I the only one who’s never thought this ? :)

biden is a traitor and needs to stand trial and found guilty and executated.

From the time that ole Palgerizin Joe was in Syracuse Law till now he still cant tell the difference between fact and fiction….but don’t worry… whatever he doesn’t have….he’ll make up!!

I concur with your sentiments. The snark I skipped had to do with everyday tools of extortion and bribery that passes for “building consensus” in Washington. His comments fit this frame of mind rather transparently and why I thought it funny: If you don’t give me what I want (full bill w/ timeline for withdrawal), I’ll shove what you want (MRAP) down your throat.

That, it seems to me, is just another indication Biden has been in Congress far too long for his own mental well-being and he now offers little but bad political comedy.
