Video: Tim Russert spells Iraq: “I-R-A-K”

Remember that old commercial–”How do you spell relief?” Well here’s a new version–”How do you spell Iraq?” It’s only a trick question if you’re Tim Russert. Russert spelled Iraq “I-R-A-K” on last night’s edition of NBC Nightly News. Perhaps he was too giddy to report bad poll numbers on the situation in Irak, er, Iraq? Or perhaps he was distracted by the knowledge that the media is playing its desired role in the war quite well.

Irak is how most Europeans spell it as far as I know (I know it’s that way in my native country, Romania, and France as well)

Who’d they survey in that poll?
Deaths are down since the surge and 49% say ‘worse’? Did they survey journalists only? DU posters? The Huffington Post?
Hoodlumman on April 26, 2007 at 11:39 AM
He’s playing to his natural French-DhimmiRAT audience. As Darth pointed out, that’s how the Frogs spell it.

Yeah I think with a k is an accepted spelling as well.

“Things are bad in Irak. Things are bad in Irak. Things are bad in Irak. Things are bad in Irak. Things are bad in Irak. Things are bad in Irak. Question: how are things in Irak?”
What kind of answer do they think they’ll get? Anyway, the truth isn’t determined by popular vote, although this is the current ploy by lefties. The MSM keeps repeating the same lies until they become the “truth”, then they ask the same people they’ve been repeating it to. This doesn’t mean the public believes this to be true, just that they’ve been hearing the constantly repeated message.
They’re using the same technique for global warming. Instead of validating the hypothesis through the scientific method, they’re taking a poll of anyone who can be loosely called a “scientist”. So now the “truth” is determined by a show of hands.

Sure, k is an accepted spelling…in France.
Bryan on April 26, 2007 at 11:47 AM
He has also started spelling America “AMERIKKKA.”
Just to look cool.
saint kansas on April 26, 2007 at 11:48 AM
if 49% say its so, it must be.
lorien1973 on April 26, 2007 at 11:49 AM
Both Iraq and Irak are on dictionary.com

When this guy grows a spine (way to stand up for your buddy Imus!) maybe I’ll listen to this guy.
asc85 on April 26, 2007 at 11:54 AM
I spell Russert S-T-U-P-I-D.
Or is he just looking for a gig in Europe? Maybe al-Jazeera EU?
profitsbeard on April 26, 2007 at 11:56 AM
So 49% of people think the situation in Iraq is worse?
Setting aside the fact that 49% of people think that things in Iraq are either the same or better according to the same poll, looks like the majority media’s “if it bleeds it leads” strategy is having some effect.
Citizen Duck on April 26, 2007 at 11:57 AM
Oh give the guy a break. He was probably in the 35th hour after his dose of Cialis and had his mind elsewhere.
Bradky on April 26, 2007 at 12:00 PM
Poll or Pole? I think we know what the media are giving us here.

What a dhimmi moron.

Well, Tim, it’s easy for us to spell “dork.”
Malpaso on April 26, 2007 at 12:44 PM
Hey, give the guy a break! Maybe he had our favorite Irak image seared, seared in his brain.
eeyore on April 26, 2007 at 12:51 PM
Hey Malpaso – is that “dork” or “dorq”?
I’m all confused now.

Funny!
Rightwingsparkle on April 26, 2007 at 1:03 PM
The issue is not that it was spelled with a ‘k’ but that it was done by the self-important father of the American news of today, the moral authority of the news domain.
How many years has Iraq been in the news now? Here in the U.S.A.? We don’t spell harbour either, even though it’s correct in the dictionary.
P.S. Darth Executor – Traiasca partidul com*unist roman :)
Entelechy on April 26, 2007 at 1:07 PM
Well then, that alone makes it unacceptable for a spelling…
Why not poll the Iraqi’s themselves as to wether things are getting better or worse…
My gawd, we’ll never win this thing with the media and Congressional Democrats flapping their yaps…And for what, political “brownie points”? It’s disgusting…
JetBoy on April 26, 2007 at 1:09 PM
It seems to me that knowing how to spell the name of such a vital geographic location as IraQ is much more important than knowing how to spell…say…”potato”.
brazilnut on April 26, 2007 at 3:30 PM
But did he put an extra e on potato?
Ok, yeah. I got nothing.
gekkobear on April 26, 2007 at 3:35 PM
I’m not a commander on the ground in Iraq. Why would someone poll me on “how the war is going”?
Oh, wait, if they fed me misinformation and then polled me on the crap they fed me, then I could be used as a tool for more propaganda. Brilliant!!
I’m cutting the power cords off my tvs now.
unamused on April 26, 2007 at 4:48 PM
The poll about the situation in Iraq getting worse is horrible stats and no credible agency would ask that question. It would be like asking, “In your opinion, is it warmer today than yesterday?”
First, we have metrics that would show us how warm it is today and how warm it was yesterday. People’s opinions don’t count. It either is warmer or it isn’t. Russert and NBC are trying to turn the perception of defeat into de facto defeat. This isn’t statistics, polling or journalism. It’s propaganda.
Second, the question is vague. It’s intentionally vague so as to be leading. People hear that the situation in Iraq sucks and they get some specifics (although they are insulated from the big picture). So when the pollster calls and asks them about the situation, the person who answers is preconditioned to answer the way they think they should answer.
Plus, there is no indication of how the polls were conducted, response rates, demographics, etc. Just looking at the questions makes me doubt the veracity of the results, but I bet if I saw the methodology, I’d be even more irate.

The polls suck and I’m starting to question the cencus bureau.

brazilnut on April 26, 2007 at 3:30 PM
Lets see if I am understanding your proposal by using the word in a sentence. Some news commentators remind me of Mr. Potato head. Am I gettin the just of it?
sonnyspats1 on April 26, 2007 at 6:50 PM
WHAT AN ASSININE SPIN!
Look at the pole. 49% say it’s worse, but 49% also say it’s the same OR BETTER!
I’m sorry, I can’t stop laughing!
Do they not hire someone to at least look at this stuff and warn them about what they are about to say? It seems they are too dumb to see it for themselves and too dumb to hire someone with common sense! Either that or they think WE are so dumb that WER’LL swallow that – er – excrement.
I don’t need to gargle, but I’ll bet there are a lot of lefties who do!

Remind me again why people can even stand tim russert? He’s like one of those that wants to invite two boxers into the round and doesn’t want to commit to the side until one gets knocked out.
Pathetic…loser. I can’t personally watch him. fickle as they come…katie couric style!
