Because you’ve been patient, I’m going to give you the freaky-deakiest robot of them all. How freaky?
The close similarity between Dr Ishiguro and his robotic replica has caused some curious psychological effects, he said. “When the body of Geminoid is touched by somebody, I get very similar feelings of being touched,” he said.
The good news: Pretty obviously, we are going to make it to Westworld in our lifetimes. The bad news: In all likelihood, it’s going to be located somewhere outside Osaka. The ambivalent news: Haven’t I seen this thing before, biting into a pepper at the beginning of “Iron Chef”?
Update: The commenters insisted. Back by popular demand, the stupidest thing I’ve ever posted on this site.

Where’s Harrison Ford to interrogate these replicants?
“I only do eyes!”
Ya gotta wonder…what technology will be like in just 30 years from now…will it be a good thing or a bad thing?
JetBoy on April 25, 2007 at 9:48 PM
CMDR DATA
WAY TOO KEWL!
Kini on April 25, 2007 at 9:49 PM
why are we not getting more posts with robots humping things?
lorien1973 on April 25, 2007 at 9:50 PM
Ah, well, those videos are precious and few. I could give you a video of Japanese men air-humping things…
But I don’t think the boss would like that.
Allahpundit on April 25, 2007 at 9:51 PM
Excuse me….but…ah….just what is the point of a robot humping anything?
Limerick on April 25, 2007 at 9:55 PM
Japan is in official population decline.
Guess we know why.
naliaka on April 25, 2007 at 9:56 PM
I can see I’m going to have to seriously consider re-posting the humping robot.
Allahpundit on April 25, 2007 at 9:56 PM
I swear…HotAir is always going to be remembered as that site with the humping robot…haha It should be the official logo!
JetBoy on April 25, 2007 at 9:57 PM
Yes.
Do it as a gift to the new members of the Hot Air family.
Plus, it made me giggle like a moron.
Slublog on April 25, 2007 at 9:59 PM
meh… get back to me when they perfect the fembot
grrr baby!
SilverStar830 on April 25, 2007 at 10:00 PM
How about the “mana mana” muppet video too…I still have that tune rattling around in my head…
JetBoy on April 25, 2007 at 10:02 PM
NO.
EnochCain on April 25, 2007 at 10:11 PM
Chew,if only you could see what I’ve seen with your eyes …..
liquidflorian on April 25, 2007 at 10:14 PM
I’m intrigued. Do you have a pamphlet? I need a link!
Bless your heart. My wife hates the video and rolled her eyes and said “oh lord, not again” when it started, but I love it!
lorien1973 on April 25, 2007 at 10:20 PM
Mine too. I called her in and told her to prepare to laugh….all I got was a scowl and a promise to check my internet history…..’yes dear’.
Limerick on April 25, 2007 at 10:25 PM
Gotta thank y’all…we need a good “chuckle” thread once in a while.
JetBoy on April 25, 2007 at 10:34 PM
What happened to the humping robot video? It disappeared…
JetBoy on April 25, 2007 at 10:38 PM
Freaky deakiest indeedy. Heh heh The humping robot is nothing new we used tweak Mr. Machine back in the day and he would have his way with my sisters Chatty Cathy doll. Ever hear of an Erector Set?
sonnyspats1 on April 25, 2007 at 10:43 PM
I like the arm behind the head move….
journeyscarab on April 25, 2007 at 10:49 PM
If these robots can be perfected, somebody is going to make a LOT of money selling them. I’d buy a look-alike robot for myself just so that I could stop attending company meetings (by sending the robot in my place).
As long as we’re asking questions like this one, exactly what is the point of Japanese air-sex (as well)? Could somebody please explain?
CyberCipher on April 25, 2007 at 10:57 PM
Sad to say it is growing on me.
The first time around it was more or less a What The (blank) sort of reaction.
This time I actually giggled from time to time.
F15Mech on April 25, 2007 at 11:01 PM
That’s a good question, but we can’t answer it until Allah posts a video of air humping. We need to convince him somehow.
lorien1973 on April 25, 2007 at 11:04 PM
That’s because there’s something inherently odd about any man who would rather make a replica of himself when he COULD have made one of Scarlett Johanson.
Just not right, you know, in the head.
Speakup on April 25, 2007 at 11:09 PM
All right, all right. Here.
Allahpundit on April 25, 2007 at 11:15 PM
Bill Bixby is ALIIIIIIIIIVE!!!!
GoodBoy on April 25, 2007 at 11:17 PM
I would say from the look of those guys they are accustomed to sex without a partner.
EnochCain on April 25, 2007 at 11:18 PM
I picked up some good tips! Thanks for the video, AP! My wife is in for it tonight LOL
lorien1973 on April 25, 2007 at 11:33 PM
This is definitely not the sex-bot I’m looking for.
Blacklake on April 25, 2007 at 11:50 PM
Yeah, that is one creepy robot, why not make a goofy looking anime bot? That might be fun as long as its not something perverse. Make one that stomps around and screams ITS OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAND!!!!! Heh.
Bad Candy on April 26, 2007 at 12:00 AM
Oh and the randy robot is hilarious!
Bad Candy on April 26, 2007 at 12:00 AM
What is up with Japan and these robots? Given their population decline (air sex being the last straw), I suppose they’re building their replacements.
thedecider on April 26, 2007 at 12:11 AM
Man, that Transformers movie looks awesome!
Jim Treacher on April 26, 2007 at 12:12 AM
Big laffs!
Jim Treacher on April 26, 2007 at 12:14 AM
I’ve heard on more than one show about robots that that is pretty much it. They hope to replace part of the workforce, and hope to build robots to care for the aging population. So yeah…
I’m not real optimistic about Transformers, thanks for reminding me…
Bad Candy on April 26, 2007 at 12:26 AM
How could you consider it stupid?…It is genius.
liberrocky on April 26, 2007 at 12:36 AM
I’ve heard people talk about how robots do the jobs regular people don’t want to do. I can’t help but think ‘isn’t that what the illegal immigrants are for’?
thedecider on April 26, 2007 at 12:44 AM
I think it looks a lot like Henry Cho.
Where y’at Hennnnreeeeee!
TheSev on April 26, 2007 at 1:08 AM
Oh, for reference.
Henry Cho
TheSev on April 26, 2007 at 1:10 AM
Ok, so I’m no good at the link thingie.
Look him up on youTube…
TheSev on April 26, 2007 at 1:11 AM
As perturbed as Ishiguroton looks, there’s no way it doesn’t violate Asimov’s First Law of Robotics the minute it gets a decent dose of AI.
eeyore on April 26, 2007 at 1:13 AM
Have they unscrewed the back of Psy-Cho’s head?
Maybe this explains everything?
R.U.R. gone bad.
profitsbeard on April 26, 2007 at 1:25 AM
Yeah, except that you aren’t ridden with guilt for treating a robot like crap. Of course, there are plenty of people who treat illegals like crap without feeling guilt too.
Bad Candy on April 26, 2007 at 1:43 AM
Bingo.
There was a game some time ago, that buried in it had a quote from a fictional “genetic engineer,” who was asked why he decided to become a gene engineer:
Dr. Whoever: “Because I had a dream.”
Reporter: “World peace? Ending hunger?”
Dr. Whoever: “No, Redhead. Legs up to here.”
Then again, maybe freaky robot boy’s duplicate is just the project he shows to the public….

sonnyspats1 on April 26, 2007 at 3:20 AM
Hmmm…
One of these, plus a good AI, plus a RealDoll….
Hellloooo Fembot!
:)
wearyman on April 26, 2007 at 9:34 AM
Robotics is way cool. The imagination reels.
The Japanese female robot was rather cute…
Halley on April 26, 2007 at 11:19 AM
Now that was just plain funnay…………..
Rock on………….
doriangrey on April 26, 2007 at 12:39 PM
Why would that be bad news? Surely they’ll deign to open a Westwood in the U.S. (after a few years outside Osaka).
I mean, Japan is so wonderful. Another enemy we learned to love long before they won the war.
How’s that Toyota (Mitsubishi, etc) workin’ out for you?
Hm. You’re right. There will probably be a “Westworld” outside of Baghdad before there’s one in the U.S. And we’ll build it for them.
Got no business whining about Japanese supremacy. We handed it to them on a silver platter because we refused to recognize an enemy… history repeats.
