Touching to see kids trying to stay good with so much horror all around, and even more touching to see adults willing to risk their lives to give them a taste of goodness.

Beat me to it…… well done.

As an Eagle Scout, Sea Explorer, Scout Master, besides our troops and the brave Iraqis’, this gives hope…..

God Bless the Boy Scouts around the World…

PinkyBigglesworth on April 25, 2007 at 11:53 PM

so if we lost, then the boy scouts must have won?

Vincenzo on April 26, 2007 at 12:06 AM

Another story the MSM will never show us. Only on Hot Air, folks.

I knew I sensed a real moral committment in your writings. Cheers to you!
My accomplishments in Scouting were as a Scoutmaster, Woodbadge recipient, Woodbadge staff several times, etc. I am not active now, and not knowing the structure of the Iraqi Scout program, I’d bet there isn’t a potential terrorist in that group of Iraqi Scouts.

Everything Harry Reid’s not.
amerpundit on April 25, 2007 at 11:52 PM

Right on!

csdeven on April 26, 2007 at 12:21 AM

Hey thats not fair. They get to have epaullets and all on their uniforms all we had in the Navy cadets were regulation blues. Plus they have two uniforms, did you notice they changed after the work project.

sonnyspats1 on April 26, 2007 at 1:18 AM

As an Assistant Scoutmaster, I would also like to add the Scout Law.

You talk about a Scout being Brave though??? A very inspiring story indeed, one to pass along to Scouts all over the world!!

Too bad somebody couldn’t sponsor them to attend the World Jamboree

HarryStar on April 26, 2007 at 1:30 AM

I’ll bet they have some interesting merit badges.

Scout Oath:

On my honor I will do my best,
To do my duty, to God and my country,
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

What a great story but know the MSM & Dims will ignore it.

Catie96706 on April 26, 2007 at 7:10 AM

Where were the homosexual protestors?
I thought all boy scouts were Christian nazi youth?

Hening on April 26, 2007 at 8:00 AM

I think the work clothes were actually soccer uniforms. Regardless, it is a great story only seen on Hotair.

csdeven on April 26, 2007 at 8:17 AM

First, I witnessed a Russian adult Boy Scout leader lead us in the Scout Oath and Law at the national BSA meeting in the 90’s, now this! Boy Scouts, our last, best hope for teaching boys and young men timeless values and principles to live by! God bless the Boy Scouts.

A Scout volunteer in the DC area named Chip Beck played a big role in reviving Boy Scouting in Iraq a few years ago.

Interesting point, the various religious groups do not want to form separate scout associations, which is common in many countries. (Israel has eight separate Scout associations, for example, separated by religion or ethnicity.) The Sunnis and the Shi’ites all want to work together in Scouting. This is great news.

And this old Eagle Scout is proud to still wear the uniform, and equally proud to see the vision of Lord Baden-Powell bringing peace and brotherhood in the most unlikely of places.

Dang Ya’ll,

What a way to start the day, with a tear in my eye seeing that
boy scout on the bus holding scout hand sign.

From a continuing Eagle Scout, I salute you all Iraqi youth.
God bless you and keep you safe.

Look what Wiki says about the history of Scouting in Iraq:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_Boy_Scouts_and_Girl_Guides_Council

After the Baath party took control in 1968 and especially after Saddam Hussein seized power in 1979, youth groups were retooled to serve the state. One replacement program, Saddam’s Cubs, offered “summer camps” where 10 to 15 year-old boys endured 14-hour days filled with hand-to-hand fighting drills. In 1990, during the period when the Iraq Boy Scouts and Girl Guides Council (Arabic: جمعية الكشافة و المرشدين العراقية ) was recognized by WOSM, the Mesopotamian nation had 12,000 Scouts, however by 1999, Iraq had been expelled from the WOSM.

Yes, it was a really awful thing that we took that jackhole out of power.

JinxMcHue on April 26, 2007 at 10:41 AM

sigh

More evidence that America is populated by perverts.

Merriam-Webster

My question: is Islam compatible with Scouting?

My other question is, why is Townhall.com so much more conservative than Hotair?

Moslem Boy Scouts… Baden-Powell would be proud.

Hiraghm on April 26, 2007 at 12:47 PM

Another question just popped into my head:

How can we lose the war when we refuse to have an enemy?

Hiraghm on April 26, 2007 at 12:49 PM

Wonder if they have different badges? Recognizing Virgins; Incendiary Devices; Finger Painting……

honora on April 26, 2007 at 1:01 PM

In the interest of disclosure, I belive that the scouting program is perhaps the best youth oriented program to help develop young men into responsible, civic minded and respectable adults.

As a former Assistan Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster, this clip makes me very proud to be a member of the World of Scouting.

All of that said, I think this was probably one of the best clips that HotAir as offered, and there have been some really, really good clips here in the last year.

Troy Rasmussen on April 26, 2007 at 4:00 PM

Question for Hiraghm…

Uh…WHAT??

tickleddragon on April 26, 2007 at 6:43 PM

This is whats called winning hearts and minds, cannot win the cold and hardened hearts of the lifelong miserable life under Saddam Iraqis all the time, but the children can still be saved. That’s why were there I thought.
