About Imus: his comment was mostly sexist and the Rutgers women were not public figures and, therefore not legitimate targets for his sharp tongue.

My problem with what you said about Obama was that it demonstrated cultural ignorance–about Arabs and about your fellow Americans who happen to be black–rather than racism. I said as much.

And unless you can pull up any quote from me which advocated that your employer (whoever that is) terminate you for your obvious lack of knowledge in both areas, even mentioning that Obama thing in this case was a complete non sequitur on your part.

Go ahead, put yourself in his place, how would you react, any better? And how would you handle the “war” against him?

He truly is a good man, I may not agree with him on everything {will someone just secure the fricken borders}, but I know he is real, honest, and believes in good over evil, and that there is a difference between the two, and evil does exist in this world.

Considering I mentioned Bush doing this awful dancing in South America also (your eyes conveniently didn’t read that?), not sure how this is about “Africans.” Since when is S. America part of Africa? Apparently, a refresher course for you in geography is in order.

Well, I didn’t comment on South America because I didn’t see the vid you referred to nor can I say anything specific about any South American reactions, if any, to the earlier event, since that’s not my region.
The dancers and the dancing in this clip, are African, and you seemed perturbed that it didn’t look right to you. I tried to reassure you in a friendly manner that to African eyes, he did fine. I’ve been to such things and they’ve danced goats and sheep up to the dais to present to the honored guest, so you might have found that to be over the top, too, had they done it with President Bush, but it’s common.
If you look closely, you may notice that when the drummer and the lead singer/dancer shake hands with Bush, one touches his hand afterwards to his heart, the other man rests his left hand on his right forearm. Both are cultural habits to show respect when greeting one of a higher position.
Madame, I nearly lost three family members whom I love dearly to malaria. I personally know women who’ve delivered full-term babies stillborn from malaria. People who’ve worked with us dead from malaria, friends and co-workers dragging around with chronic, debilitating malaria, not realizing what they had. President Bush is doing a service to humanity by bringing more resources to bear on this endemic parasite that kills millions of people a year. And you’re fussing about a little dancing with the troupe.
Your comments really did not serve to project yourself in a very good light on this subject.

Its the UN who is doing nothing. Its the Democrats who did not confirm John Bolton who are doing nothing. President Bush has put economic santions on Iran as well as the biggest Aircraft Carrier built up since WWII in the Persian Gulf. . . . He is more of a blue collar roll up your sleeves type. One of his biggert strengths and weaknesses is his full bore attitude, but when it counts the man is there.

1) Why must we rely on the UN? We are a sovereign nation. Not a member of a one-world confederation run by Islamic banana republics and a few remaining communists.

2) Actually Bush is not doing anything to Iran–and that includes economically–where he’s allowed a TON of loopholes, to the point where we even supply Iran with Coke and Pepsi. The sanctions are very weak–Bush has allowed Iranians to enjoy many American products and services–and has just copied the Clintonian pre-Ahmadinejad sanctions without any ramping up. Details here.

3) Bush is “blue collar”? Are you serious? I know few blue collar people whose family are oil millionaires, have a compound in Kennebunkport, Maine, went to the prestigious P.A. Andover prep school, went to the Ivy Leagues, etc. He isn’t blue collar by any stretch of the imagination. I don’t envy him these things, but let’s be intellectually honest here about his status. Ronald Reagan was, indeed, blue collar. He came from a dirt poor Irish family and grew up in working class Eureka, Illinois. His father was supposedly an alcoholic, and Reagan was a lifeguard to earn himself money and attempt to put himself through school.

Back to Bush. As for “rolling up his sleeves,” that’s also not accurate. He constantly had Saudi and Texas oil investors who bankrolled failed businesses like Zapata Oil Company, etc. I mean, who puts in like no money into the Texas Rangers, suddenly is the Prez of the team, and then gets millions upon leaving? He ain’t a sleeve-rolling up kinda guy. Again, I’m not into the politics of envy and I don’t begrudge him those privileges–if his parents and their friends wanted to give him all those things, fine. But he sure is not “blue collar” or sleeve-rolling up. Those descriptions simply are not accurate.

Got a cross-cultural problem here. Africans dance at such ceremonies … so it doesn’t look particularly undignified to their eyes. Got two audiences, at home and abroad.
It’s just good-natured and unpretentious.
Just be grateful it wasn’t the West African “ventilateur.”

First off, Ronald Reagan was Presidential (with a sense of humor). This dude ain’t. And saying so isn’t “hatin’.” If Reagan did this, I’d say the same thing: Oy. If looking stupid is diplomacy, then yes, Bush is extremely diplomatic. He’s figuratively doing the same sort of silly dance with Ahmadinejad, too–constantly saying, “Do this, or else . . .I’ll do nothing.” And the diplomacy isn’t working. None of Bush’s “diplomacy” has worked for anything–his diplomacy with Mexico, his Karen Hughes diplomacy with the Islamic world, etc. A dance won’t be the exception.

I would say something more, but the last time a situtation like this occcured (Rove), I had to wave the…um..white flag and go to a “I don’t hate white people just because I make fun of the rhythmless state of some of them” Rehab and I just don’t have time for rehab right now.

Betcha if the Democrats had perceived some political points to be slashed off at Bush’s expense, they would have tried to undermine any “malaria initiative.”

They’ve already undermined any malaria initiatives by insisting that DDT can’t be used anywhere in the world.
