At a ceremony to promote malaria awareness. So you can understand why everyone would be feeling so festive.

I gotta say, when he gets up in the bongo player’s face it really looks like he’s feeling it. Click the image to watch.

Update: He really looks like he’s feeling it:

Oh, and we could use some mashups with this and the Michelle cheerlearder vid. Hmm maybe even get Rove in there. The Conservative Disco . .

Lol, Dubya’s got mad dancing skillz. Well, they could use a little work…actually.

Take advice from a whiteman George. You can’t dance either.

Limerick on April 25, 2007 at 6:06 PM

bongos?
Djembes perhaps?
This may come as a complete shock to many, but President Bush has done a number of significant initiatives that really, truly help Africans. Not like Clinton, who swished thru West Africa, all talk and nothing else. In fact, a number of Africans have commented that to their surprise (i.e. in contrast to the propaganda) they got far more solid support from Republicans than they ever get from Democrats.
Course the MSM never ever reports that.

I’d rather have President Bush getting his goofy groove on in the Rose Garden than Clinton getting his groove on in the Oral Orifice, if you know what I mean.

JinxMcHue on April 25, 2007 at 6:21 PM

OY. This is the second such “dancing” stint for him and Laura B. in a month (the other was him in S. America with Condi Clueless and Laura B). Not very Presidential. Reminds me of Slick Willie playing the instrument on Arsenio. Again, Oy.

Debbie Schlussel on April 25, 2007 at 6:22 PM

What a great cause. Its a pleasure to see the smiling faces of our guests from Zambia. President Bush has immplimented many initiatives (not programs) both foriegn and domestic for which he is given no credit. Instead he is demonized . Open your eyes and you might see more than bushitler!

And now the drum will be sold on E-bay…

Debbie Schlussel on April 25, 2007 at 6:22 PM

Whaaa… Give the guy a break. I think your comparison is unfare. The President is being a cordial host to our guests, for a selfless cause I might add. I would rather see the office he holds be used for humanitarian causes, than for pandering to a television audience for political gain.

sonnyspats1 on April 25, 2007 at 6:35 PM

Why isn’t there a straightforward Constitutional Amendment on this topic?

Amendment 42:

1) No male American over the age of 30 and of European descent shall dance in public, with the following exceptions being the only exemptions to this general guideline:

a) Dancing is permitted at a daughter’s wedding. But only after 11:00 p.m., when presumably other guests are equally intoxicated and unlikely to remember. “Daughter” does not mean neice, cousin, or family friend - you get to dance at your daughters wedding. The rest of the time, stand in the corner and drink your beer. Talk sports, dammit;

b) Dancing is permitted when wholly necessary to seal the deal with a member of the opposite sex; however, dancing shall be suspended immediately upon sealage of the dealage. Since the member of the opposite sex will probably want you to stop dancing within two songs, this exception is granted for no more than 10 minutes. Unless the girl is really, really hot. Then you can have 15. But if you keep dancing like that, she’s not going home with you, anyway. Dummy.

c) You can dance to anything by Air Supply, Perry Como, or big band hits released prior to 1949. But only on weekend nights, and only if your children are not present.

d) Under no circumstances - including the aforementioned exceptions - can you dance to anything by Wham, The Thomspon Twins, or Devo.

e) At all times, your hands will be kept at chest-level or below. Yes, this includes YMCA.

f) No Macarena. Ever. No, it doesn’t matter how gay you are.

2) If you’re the President or any senior official, none of these exceptions apply to you. No dancing. Yes, you, too, Slick Willy.

Debbie Schussel,
Got a cross-cultural problem here. Africans dance at such ceremonies … so it doesn’t look particularly undignified to their eyes. Got two audiences, at home and abroad.
It’s just good-natured and unpretentious.
Just be grateful it wasn’t the West African “ventilateur.”

I didn’t think he looked pretentious one bit. It looked like he was having a good time with nice people. Unlike Kerry and others who put on shows that they are just like the common folk. Should put up the one where Kerry has to eat a drippy cheesesteak I think it was and it is quite obvious he finds it beneath him.

You’re right, CNN is probably hoping the Upper West Side types will be delighted to have an opportunity with this clip to arch their eyebrows and curl their lips.
What they don’t know is it WILL play well in Africa. Real Africa, with real malaria.
We have three in our family who were hospitalized with severe malaria, so it isn’t theoretical for us. I LOVE it that Bush is bringing attention to this. It is a true scourge. As I said before, the Dems are all talk, but the Republicans are the ones who deliver real help to Africa.

naliaka on April 25, 2007 at 7:14 PM

Not to be melodramatic, but I look at this and wonder how the dimwits on the left come to the conclusion G.B. killed all the wonderful diplomacy that Clinton worked on. They probably have conspiracy theories that those aren’t real Africans.

Our president in dancing in a time of war??! Ridiculous! He’s dancing in complete merriment only because he and Slick Dick are cashing in while drinking the blood of Iraqis.

Psych! I’m surprised that hasn’t been said somewhere yet though. Surely somebody for Kos or Huffie Wuffy has blathered on about something to that effect to gain attention. Somebody want to make another monkey comparison too?

I will say though that I am a little ashamed that I can’t dance this well. I’m sure some of you are thinking the same. You’re pretending he’s a bad dancer just to join in with those who mock but you’re so-ooo jealous. Consider this: What will President Bush do after this term in office? Watch out Richard Simmons!

mboprey on April 25, 2007 at 8:30 PM

I would say something more, but the last time a situtation like this occcured (Rove), I had to wave the…um..white flag and go to a “I don’t hate white people just because I make fun of the rhythmless state of some of them” Rehab and I just don’t have time for rehab right now.

First off, Ronald Reagan was Presidential (with a sense of humor). This dude ain’t. And saying so isn’t “hatin’.” If Reagan did this, I’d say the same thing: Oy. If looking stupid is diplomacy, then yes, Bush is extremely diplomatic. He’s figuratively doing the same sort of silly dance with Ahmadinejad, too–constantly saying, “Do this, or else . . .I’ll do nothing.” And the diplomacy isn’t working. None of Bush’s “diplomacy” has worked for anything–his diplomacy with Mexico, his Karen Hughes diplomacy with the Islamic world, etc. A dance won’t be the exception.

I would say something more, but the last time a situtation like this occcured (Rove), I had to wave the…um..white flag and go to a “I don’t hate white people just because I make fun of the rhythmless state of some of them” Rehab and I just don’t have time for rehab right now.

Hmmm . . . if a White person made that comment about some Black people, he/she’d be in a lot of hot water, not just “rehab.” Ask Don Imus. (Or me, when you had a huge prob with my accurate remarks on Obama’s Muslim background.)

Its the UN who is doing nothing. Its the Democrats who did not confirm John Bolton who are doing nothing. President Bush has put economic santions on Iran as well as the biggest Aircraft Carrier built up since WWII in the Persian Gulf. I think that is the equevilent of RR’s Pershing build up that was instramental in ending the cold war. Irans economy is on the virge of collapseing despite their oil. It is gonna take TIME. Goerge Bush is not Ronald Regan. He is more of a blue collar roll up your sleeves type. One of his biggert strengths and weaknesses is his full bore attitude, but when it counts the man is there.

sonnyspats1 on April 25, 2007 at 10:25 PM

1) Why must we rely on the UN? We are a sovereign nation. Not a member of a one-world confederation run by Islamic banana republics and a few remaining communists.

2) Actually Bush is not doing anything to Iran–and that includes economically–where he’s allowed a TON of loopholes, to the point where we even supply Iran with Coke and Pepsi. The sanctions are very weak–Bush has allowed Iranians to enjoy many American products and services–and has just copied the Clintonian pre-Ahmadinejad sanctions without any ramping up. Details here.

3) Bush is “blue collar”? Are you serious? I know few blue collar people whose family are oil millionaires, have a compound in Kennebunkport, Maine, went to the prestigious P.A. Andover prep school, went to the Ivy Leagues, etc. He isn’t blue collar by any stretch of the imagination. I don’t envy him these things, but let’s be intellectually honest here about his status. Ronald Reagan was, indeed, blue collar. He came from a dirt poor Irish family and grew up in working class Eureka, Illinois. His father was supposedly an alcoholic, and Reagan was a lifeguard to earn himself money and attempt to put himself through school.

Back to Bush. As for “rolling up his sleeves,” that’s also not accurate. He constantly had Saudi and Texas oil investors who bankrolled failed businesses like Zapata Oil Company, etc. I mean, who puts in like no money into the Texas Rangers, suddenly is the Prez of the team, and then gets millions upon leaving? He ain’t a sleeve-rolling up kinda guy. Again, I’m not into the politics of envy and I don’t begrudge him those privileges–if his parents and their friends wanted to give him all those things, fine. But he sure is not “blue collar” or sleeve-rolling up. Those descriptions simply are not accurate.

Debbie Schlussel on April 25, 2007 at 10:45 PM

Considering I mentioned Bush doing this awful dancing in South America also (your eyes conveniently didn’t read that?), not sure how this is about “Africans.” Since when is S. America part of Africa? Apparently, a refresher course for you in geography is in order.

Well, I didn’t comment on South America because I didn’t see the vid you referred to nor can I say anything specific about any South American reactions, if any, to the earlier event, since that’s not my region.
The dancers and the dancing in this clip, are African, and you seemed perturbed that it didn’t look right to you. I tried to reassure you in a friendly manner that to African eyes, he did fine. I’ve been to such things and they’ve danced goats and sheep up to the dais to present to the honored guest, so you might have found that to be over the top, too, had they done it with President Bush, but it’s common.
If you look closely, you may notice that when the drummer and the lead singer/dancer shake hands with Bush, one touches his hand afterwards to his heart, the other man rests his left hand on his right forearm. Both are cultural habits to show respect when greeting one of a higher position.
Madame, I nearly lost three family members whom I love dearly to malaria. I personally know women who’ve delivered full-term babies stillborn from malaria. People who’ve worked with us dead from malaria, friends and co-workers dragging around with chronic, debilitating malaria, not realizing what they had. President Bush is doing a service to humanity by bringing more resources to bear on this endemic parasite that kills millions of people a year. And you’re fussing about a little dancing with the troupe.
Your comments really did not serve to project yourself in a very good light on this subject.

I ask anyone one of you, who are casting the first stone, to realize this man anquishes everyday on every single casualty and death in the “Global War on Terror”, to be able to stand if front of the worlds biased media, and make his guests feel appreciated, welcomed, and respected.

Go ahead, put yourself in his place, how would you react, any better? And how would you handle the “war” against him?

He truly is a good man, I may not agree with him on everything {will someone just secure the fricken borders}, but I know he is real, honest, and believes in good over evil, and that there is a difference between the two, and evil does exist in this world.

Darn, I can’t dance either, and I think both President Bush and I realize that. The difference between President Bush and any Lefty Democrat, is that he knows it, and doesn’t blame anyone else for it.

Well,
Looks indeed that CNN’s true purpose in showing this clip is to mock Bush rather than to inform the public about malaria and how many people die because of it, along with how few resources have gone to developing better treatments and possible vaccines. How many people have joined in who have ignored the message to make fun of the messenger?
It was of course, the “caring” Liberal Left environmentalists who lobbied hard and succeeded in cutting off DDT spraying, condemning death by rapid blood cell destruction to millions of Africans and other peoples around the world who suffer in malaria endemic zones. Not revised it, not better tailored its usage, no: zero. Malaria returned to areas where it had been eradicated. Malaria did not return to Washington DC. It did return to the villages, towns and cities all across Africa.
It speaks volumes that the MSM’s interest in a malaria awareness campaign is solely to mining the videos to make fun of a man who has actually spent a bit of his time, thoughts and efforts, and the position of his office on doing something useful about fighting it.
Okay, here’s some malaria awareness:
You know how you die from malaria? You suffocate. Your heart is no longer pumping functioning blood, but eaten out shells of destroyed red blood cells. Less and less oxygen to the brain and vital organs of the body. Children tend to die faster than adults and it’s especially devastating to children in the womb.

But hey, what’s really important here? Only that Bush has no rhythm and he embarrasses us sophisticated types.

About Imus: his comment was mostly sexist and the Rutgers women were not public figures and, therefore not legitimate targets for his sharp tongue.

My problem with what you said about Obama was that it demonstrated cultural ignorance–about Arabs and about your fellow Americans who happen to be black–rather than racism. I said as much.

And unless you can pull up any quote from me which advocated that your employer (whoever that is) terminate you for your obvious lack of knowledge in both areas, even mentioning that Obama thing in this case was a complete non sequitur on your part.

You feelings must still be hurting.

BTW, here’s a little more for your cultural education: “nappy” is merely the state of being unstraightened (artificially).

baldilocks on April 26, 2007 at 9:33 PM

Real Africans look like great people. I wonder what happened to their American cousins that they can’t celebrate life and just get down with the Prez?

President Bush is jamming that he’s not getting blamed for malaria. That seems to be his “dance face”.
