Problem I have is not enough Republicans are speaking out. I will no longer donate to the Republican Party until I see more of our elected Republicans showing some cajones.

By we, I meant conservatives. I’ve given up on the left. My brother is a Kos kid. He’s brilliant, generous with his money to charity, and generally a great guy – except for that pesky case of BDS… there’s no reasoning with him. Other than shock treatment, I think he’s beyond hope, along with the rest of his fringe left buddies. We need to “move on,” work on getting the center, and wait for those lunatics to die out.

I wish I could be that optimistic, but as long as the Dems keep telling the enemy “just keep it up for 2 more months”, it’s going to be tough. What you said about clinging to hope a little longer is what the Dems have been doing since a few months in to the war and they step it up every time we’ve had victories (cleared certain cities, Iraqis had successful elections, etc.). When anything good happens, you know there are leakers prepared to produce bogus “scandals” to hurt the war effort and Dems to blow these situations out of proportion and politicize the war in general and promise victory to the enemy.

No problem, I wasn’t really picking a fight with you, just venting something. I’m just annoyed with the fact that the media was able to create the idea that he said anything remotely offensive when he simply said (at Thurmond’s 100th birthday):

“When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn’t have had all these problems over the years, either”

Thurmond being a segregationist at the time he ran has nothing to do with the comment. The comment was saying “hey old buddy, for what it’s worth I voted for you and wish you would have won because we’d be a better country for it”. He wasn’t saying “too bad you didn’t win feller, look what them coloreds have done!” The whole “controversy” was ridiculous – all the forced apologies, etc. I can’t believe what a pu**y he and the GOP at large were over that situation (among others).

Okay, but I’m going on the assumption we can still identify good from bad. I’m an optimist, obviously.

Ah, but Laura, those chills going down my spine were not the good ones. Rather, it was the sudden realization of just how vulnerable we are to a charismatic politician who will promise us heaven on earth if we vote for him. It puts the current democrat party campaign in a different light.

It demonstrates the appeal the activist Imams have with the devout believer.

I’m getting sick and tired of the cat fight, and want these problems solved. So someone says, “start hanging the [insert ethnic group of you choice here] from the street lights, and all your problems will be solved”. I’ve even hinted at it myself.

It’s gonna be a long 19 months.

Reid gets elected in Nevada because of a few socially conservative stances, but mostly on one issue. “Yucca Mountain”. Nevadans are absolutely bonkers over it. They have the time too, because Las Vegas especially, is booming and if you aren’t making tons of cash, well, you are just plain lazy. So, the only thing left to worry about is the morning drive time and Yucca Mountain. The state has become very conservative over the years, electing 2 conservative govenors, 1 senator and 2 representitives. Shelly Berkley (D)(fitting name) well, there is only one thing you need to know about her. CAIR rates her 100% friendly.

I know what you mean. We need another Reagan – somebody out there really communicating for a change that we’re the good guys, and that victory is possible. Maybe it’s Fred Thompson… I don’t really care who, but if somebody doesn’t step up, we’re going to lose more ground in 2008. Republicans have a lot more seats at risk than the Dems, and it’s pretty hard to get excited about voting Republican at the moment. “We’re not as bad as the other party” isn’t going to get people to the polls.

Maybe instead of recalling Reid, we should ask Joe Lieberman to switch parties and promise him the Senate Majority Leader job.

That’s a good point, tho’. Why doesn’t Lieberman go Repub, which would tip the scales; put his money where his mouth is?

As for Inhofe, he’s been a complete tool until lately when he finally discovered his spine and started challenging all the global warming crap. Seems he may have found his niche. It’s about time.

I still hold out faint hope that some in the Democrat party are beginning to understand what their position, and the election results of last November will cost them. I still hold the belief that we can, and will win the fight in Iraq.

Unfortunately, there is still the possibility that the house of representatives will refuse further funding for the troops in the field, unless Bush uses those funds to withdrawn those troops. Add to that the very real possibility of another ‘tet offensive’; something to push those with weakness in the knees into giving up.

The uncertainty is making me crazy, and in this instant I suddenly feel sympathy for the Germans in the early ’30’s when a charismatic politician was promising them a better future. That thought sends shivers down my back.
