TMZ: Rosie to announce tomorrow that she’s leaving “The View;” Update: ABC confirms

75% of my content, up in smoke. I’m a wreck.

Assuming it’s true, what do you think — did she jump or was she pushed? And if the latter, why did Barbara push her?

Update: Life has no meaning anymore.

Rosie O’Donnell’s stormy tenure on “The View” will be a short one. ABC said Wednesday it was unable to agree on a contract with the opinionated host, and she’ll leave the show in June.

O’Donnell said in a statement that “my needs for the future just didn’t dovetail with what ABC was able to offer me.”

Update: ABC is reporting it now, too. Via Matt Sheffield of Newsbusters:

The president of daytime programming for the Disney-ABC Television Group, Brian Frons, told ABCNEWS.com, “Going in we knew we would have an amazing year with her, and that anything beyond that would be gravy. But we were willing to take the chance because we understood what a coup it was to entice Ro back to daytime television. So here we are a year later, and while we’ve tried to come to terms on a deal that would extend her co-hosting duties on ‘The View,’ we find ourselves unable to agree on some key elements.”…

O’Donnell said: “This has been an amazing experience, and one I wouldn’t have traded for the world. Working with Barbara, Joy and Elisabeth has been one of the highlights of my career, but my needs for the future just didn’t dovetail with what ABC was able to offer me. To all the viewers out there, I just want to say ‘thank you’ for opening up your hearts and your homes to me this past year. But you can always find me at rosie.com. Here’s hoping there’s more confetti for all of us going forward.”

I’d say the former. Rumor is that she wanted to make more money than Barbara, without that money, maybe she saw all the motivation she needed to leave.

Plus, she wasn’t really a controversial figure before, at least not this much. She seemed nice and family friendly, at least on her koshball-throwing show.

Esthier on April 24, 2007 at 11:52 PM

NO WAY!!!! what on EARTH will be gossip about????? I don’t know if this is good news or bad news. I’ll sleep on it. nighty night.

AP, where’s that preview button??

pullingmyhairout on April 24, 2007 at 11:53 PM

I think The Spew bids adieu to Rosie (if it’s even true). That show is her meal ticket but once she started wearing the tinfoil hat of trutherism, could her demise have been far behind? I’d be interested to know what viewers (who bother to call or write in) have been saying about her. Bill O said the other day that the Spew’s ratings have been declining since January.

Don’t worry Allah – there’s plenty more lunatics where she came from. Your career is set.

thedecider on April 24, 2007 at 11:55 PM

Clearly Bush strongarmed Walters to push her out because Rosie was telling the truth about 9/11.

(Hope that didn’t sound too realistic!)

eforhan on April 24, 2007 at 11:56 PM

I question the timing.

Although I agree with her onscreen count of her functioning brain cells.

profitsbeard on April 24, 2007 at 11:56 PM

Are you bummed, Allah? or just indifferent? She certainly made for interesting clips, but I won’t be sorry either way. I just wish The View would find a worthy conservative instead of leaving that seat filled with just one.

Esthier on April 24, 2007 at 11:57 PM

it was only a matter of time.

the only question is: Will Papa Bear take credit for ousting her?

Opinionnation on April 24, 2007 at 11:59 PM

Don’t worry, Allah. Some boob will step up to the plate.
Never fear.

harrison on April 25, 2007 at 12:00 AM

Wait! I have it figured!
Trump hired her!

harrison on April 25, 2007 at 12:01 AM

But will Tom Delay take credit?

Blacklake on April 25, 2007 at 12:01 AM

Rosie’s just the tip of the big, fat Truther ice berg.

As much as I feel the tendency to roll my eyes whenever she mentions fire melting steel or the like, it’s the mindless applause from the audience that really makes me despair for our country.

Citizen Duck on April 25, 2007 at 12:02 AM

I’ll rent the dance floor and band, can someone order appetizers?

Defector01 on April 25, 2007 at 12:03 AM

The loose-lipped lesbian dropped the F-bomb as Barbara Walters lowered her head on the dais and covered her face with her hand.

What more needs to be said? Watch for Babs to appear on O’Reilly soon to explain defend talk about Rosie and her interesting tenure on the show.

thedecider on April 25, 2007 at 12:06 AM

The loose-lipped lesbian dropped the F-bomb as Barbara Walters lowered her head on the dais and covered her face with her hand. O’Donnell concluded a rant about Donald Trump by grabbing her crotch and shouting, “Eat me!”

O’Donnell also said she was sad when Trump called her “disgusting” and “fat” because, “it was always my dream to give an old, bald billionaire a boner.”

Classy! I’m betting that Babs gave her a good hard push.

Bad Penny on April 25, 2007 at 12:08 AM

Gee, I was going to market a whole new line of Rosie targets…with an extra large pie hole, for archery enthusiasts to shoot flaming peeps into. NOW whadda’m I gonna do with all these frickin’ peeps?

Jewel on April 25, 2007 at 12:10 AM

Her publicist says she ain’t no shrinking violet…I was thinking shrivelled…barron…other more accurate descriptions for the Bat Cave.

Jewel on April 25, 2007 at 12:11 AM

thedecider on April 24, 2007 at 11:55 PM

Here’s a copy of the letter I sent on 4/17 to quite a few of the sponsors that Michele listed:

I’ve been buying your products for over 30 years but I cannot continue to support the hateful and anti-american opinions expressed on “The View” which you sponsor. There-fore, my family and I will switch to other products until you pull your sponsorship of this program or demand a change.
Like apple pie and baseball, your company has been associated with what’s good in American for as far back as I can remember. Unfortunately, like so much in the world today, that is changing rapidly. Unless you take a stand now, unfortunately, your products will represent all that is wrong, cowardly and hate-filled. It’s up to you which image you want your company to project.
Goodbye from a former life-long customer. I will miss you and hope you do the right thing so I can come back.
God bless America.
Maureen (MyLastName)

****
I think that Rosie got canned. Maybe the “Eat me” comment that supposedly had Barbara Walters putting her head down on the table at the Matrix awards was the last straw? I hate Rosie’s opinions and she has a right to speak them just as we have a right to tune in or out and buy or don’t buy the show’s sponsor’s products. But despite all this, I think Rosie is very depressed and should be watched closely. She is a mom and her kids need her.

Gotta go. If anyone is looking for lighter fare before bedtime… 2 hours of “Frasier” & “South Park” reruns are starting on WPIX CH 11.

NightmareOnKStreet on April 25, 2007 at 12:13 AM

Rosie is the embarrassing growth which Barbara is about to have surgically removed.

Nate A. on April 25, 2007 at 12:14 AM

Egads! What an egregious error. Damn you synonym check. I meant barren. Still, there is a freudenschadien slip in there, somewhere, I reckon.

Jewel on April 25, 2007 at 12:14 AM

You’ll have to start working for a living again, bro.

I think Babs could tolerate the anti-Americanism, the hate, the gross, the dikeness, and the cartoonish leftism, but when Fat Rosie upstaged her…well, that was beyond the pale.

Jaibones on April 25, 2007 at 12:20 AM

I’ll believe it when I see it. I’m from Illinois, so I’ll borrow my Missouri neighbors state motto, “show me”.

If so, for a replacement, bring on Michelle, Patricia Heaton, or if they still want to stay liberal, KP!

Somewhere, Star Jones is heard laughing hysterically in the distance….

Okay, which womens basketball team did she insult(or hit on, same thing)?

TBinSTL on April 25, 2007 at 12:22 AM

I’m betting if she does ‘quit’ (rather than getting fired), it will to be to run for Congress, or maybe go on tour with Cindy Sheehan, and financed by George Soros.

Or if she did get fired, she will do something like: team up with the DUmmies web tech people to do the liberal moonbat version of HotAir or the internet video version of HuffPo.

LegendHasIt on April 25, 2007 at 12:24 AM

No one will be sadder than al-Qaeda.

Halley on April 25, 2007 at 12:27 AM

Bad news. She was one of the best advertisements we had to vote Republican. And the best way to deal with truthers is to give them all the publicity they want because they can’t stand up to the scrutiny. I actually hope she gets her own show again and keeps up the truther nonsense, the more exposure the better.

forged rite on April 25, 2007 at 12:30 AM

Assuming it’s true, what do you think — did she jump or was she pushed? And if the latter, why did Barbara push her?

Who cares? As long as she uses the door only once on her way out and disapears I’ll be perfectly happy.

I think the real question is “With Soros’s money behind her where and in what kind of capacity will she turn up in next?”

“Rosie? You’re fired.”

People, it’s Media Matters wiping the Vice President spanking “little harry ried” off the front page for the “sheeple”……… besides, who isn’t hungry when Rosie says…. “Eat Me”…

“I cringed and dove under the table when she said, ‘Eat me,’ ” said one woman attendee who declined to be identified. “

Or it could be this “clap trap“……

PinkyBigglesworth on April 25, 2007 at 1:00 AM

I’m sure she has plans for her own show which she has alluded to before. She probably doesn’t like anybody telling her what she can or can’t say, so she wants to be the boss again. You know, since we live in a democracy and all (or so she likes to remind us every day).

Do you think Elisabeth is doing the happy dance somewhere right now?

Janos Hunyadi on April 25, 2007 at 1:31 AM

I agree with the “last straw” folks above. But her replacement will never be an MM or Patricia Heaton. It will be another lefty who has that Rosie-Rachel Maddow-like habit of “If I disagree with you, I will shout at such a volume and for so excruciatingly long that no-one will ever hear your point!”

eeyore on April 25, 2007 at 1:35 AM

sonnyspats1 on April 25, 2007 at 1:35 AM

It would be terrible if Rosie left the View. Nobody makes lefties look loonier than Rosie. If we chase away the stupidest lefties they might be replaced with smart lefties, if they can find any. Rosie was a gift to conservatives, the big fat lefty pinyata that kept on giving and giving. I say we should begin a letter-writing campaign to bring her back as the Voice of the Big Fat Stupid Left.

If we can get Rosie to say something as stupid as “Fire Never Melted Steel” at least once per week, we can convince the public that the Left is one big pack of idiots.

The floor couldn’t hold her weight.

Jim Treacher on April 25, 2007 at 2:42 AM

If, in fact, Rosie is outta there at the end of the season, then my guess is that her ‘performance’ at the Matrix awards – that had Babs holding her head in her hands in shame – was the straw that broke that pig’s back.

So long and buh-bye Rosie…and don’t let the network tv door or Sheryl ‘One Sheet’ Crow smack you on the ass on your way out either.

Ps.I wonder if Bill Maher could use a spare paper weight?

Teddy on April 25, 2007 at 3:37 AM

I’d be willing to bet she’s gotten an offer for her own show. She clearly has tried to make The View hers, and despite her insane rantings, ABC does apply some pressure and keep her somewhat in check. I know, it’s scary to think what Rosie not in check would be, but you needn’t look further than the lefty blogosphere and Truther sites.

Her new show will put her in the role of solo host and encourage her insane lies and rantings. She won’t be challenged (not that she really was on The View, sorry Hasselbeck, you just didn’t cut it) on anything, will have some of the most objectionable people in the country on as guest fairly regularly (Sean Penn, etc.).

The show will post some decent numbers for a few weeks for the same reason everyone slows down to see a bad traffic accident, but because the show will likely not be on a major network (though given the state of the media and the networks, I wouldn’t really be that surprised) it should fail rather quickly. They’ll try desperately to make the show a success though, so it won’t be gone in a matter of months, it may take a year or two. Rosie will be encouraged to go full Truther and commie to boost ratings because she’ll remain the subject of segments on Fox News, and of course HotAir.

Anyway, I’ve been saying this for a while. She attempted to go overboard a number of times hoping ABC would fire her because she has this other offer waiting.

You’ll see. And get ready for a bumpy ride as she mainstreams Trutherism. She’ll bring douches like the Loose Change clowns on and they will go unchallenged.

Candy Slice on April 25, 2007 at 7:10 AM

I’ve been sayin’…Rosie will leave The View, and will get her own show again, although it will be more politically oriented then her previous one.

She simply has too powerful a personality for The View…she dominates the discussions. And Barbara has probably had enough with the bad press she brings.

So sit tight, Allah…She’ll be back soon enough with a new show all her own…perhaps “The Rantin’ Rosie Hour”, or “Bertha’s Big Broo-ha-ha”…

Her first guest will probably be truther John Conner…

JetBoy on April 25, 2007 at 7:20 AM

Too bad. I was really hoping they’d keep her around until well into the 2008 election cycle.

She’s a very useful idiot. The literal poster child for liberalism.

If you want to help elect a Republican in 2008, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to send a letter to all the networks suggesting you’d really like to see Rosie have her own show again …

Professor Blather on April 25, 2007 at 7:40 AM

Whatever the reason may be, we will never get the true one. We will get the white-washed Hollywood version. I’ll buy the “moving on to greener pastures” one, but only for the obvious reasons. moooo

I’d like to think that all of the right reasons were in play (most stated above by all of you). If this is truly what will pass, let’s see if Rosie has the “balls”, that she so often displayed shouting over differing opinions, to give the audience the truth behind her leaving the show (God willing)

ej_pez on April 25, 2007 at 8:14 AM
