Rasmussen: Hillary 32, Obama 32; Update: Hillary looking to Harriet Tubman for inspiration
posted at 9:56 am on April 24, 2007 by Allahpundit
Could be a blip. He did, after all, pull within five of her last month before fading back to 12 behind.
But if it’s a blip, it’s taking its sweet time to disappear:
3/26 37% 25%
4/02 33% 26%
4/09 34% 29%
4/16 32% 30%
4/23 32% 32%
Drudge is leading with the Times piece this morning about black pols in New York State inching away from Clinton towards the undecided column, which is simply too delicious given the implicit rebuke it holds for the nation’s first “black” president. Obama hasn’t even approached them yet, either; the groundswell seems to be motivated by a combination of identity politics and the first quarter fundraising figures proving that Barry O’s got a legitimate shot to win. The only good news for Hillary is that this may tempt Obama to spend time campaigning in NYS, which he’d probably written off as a lost cause and which probably will ultimately prove to be a lost cause. Of course, if he’s going to campaign there, she will too. And having to protect her home turf isn’t the best use of her time and energy.
Exit question one: Why not make Billy Jeff responsible for campaigning in New York? Exit question two: Whom should we be rooting for here? It’d be sweet to see Obama derail the Clinton machine, but he’s probably more electable than she is.
Update: Between this and that fleeting southern accent of hers, the only way she could pander to black voters more shamelessly is if she broke into a spiritual.
The Democratic presidential hopeful brought out the whole family for the “low-dollar” event at the West Side’s Pier 94. But Bill Clinton and their daughter, Chelsea, left the limelight to the candidate, who found herself struggling with a faulty microphone.
“This reminds me of one of my favorite American heroines, Harriet Tubman,” the senator told 1,800 cheering supporters when her mike was restored.
“She made it to freedom after having been a slave and she got to New York and she could have been so happy . . . but she kept going back down South to bring other freed slaves to freedom.
“And she used to say, ‘No matter what happens, keep going,’ ” Hillary Clinton said. “So we’re going to keep going until we take back the White House!”

Question three: what happens if Gore throws his hat in the ring?
Let’s put it this way: Don’t be surprised to see Barry writing a check to the Gore campaign.

Question three: what happens if Gore throws his hat in the ring?
I get the feeling that Gore is the Fred! of the left.
Slublog on April 24, 2007 at 10:01 AM
as a Republican, which Dem do we want to see get nomination? Obama or Hillary? The thing that worries me about Hillary is Dick Morris point that single women who aren’t factored into polls because they usually don’t vote will come out in droves for her. Obama worries me a little simply because he is able to mask his positions with a positive sounding message, and I think Americans are in the mood to be swindled and bury their heads in the sand.
jp on April 24, 2007 at 10:03 AM
All this is much ado about nothing. After september or so, when these candidates have to start actually taking positions on things, we will see who has the best chance at losing to the republican nominee.
csdeven on April 24, 2007 at 10:12 AM
Hard to tell. It’s still 19 months before general election, and about 10 before any primaries.
Exit Question Four: Will Hillary’s decision to keep a contingent of troops in Iraq, if elected President, hurt her chances with the Democrats.
amerpundit on April 24, 2007 at 10:16 AM
I DON’T want any of them to win, that’s a given. However, I think if I had to choose between Hellary and Hussein I’d choose Hussein (though I really don’t want to give the ‘first real black president’ to a Dem…). The first and foremost reason is that he’s not a Clinton. This of course assumes she doesn’t become his Veep choice.

Time for Shillary to get the same blood suckers on Obama that she sicced on Imus.

How ironic. Barry’s using BJ’s playbook to run against Mrs. BJ.

Can’t we just get them to run Kerry again?
JayHaw Phrenzie on April 24, 2007 at 10:27 AM
It’s past time for Hillary and the Slickster to admit that their marriage is a total sham. Hell, David Gest’s marriage to Liza Minnelli had more credibility.
Hillary Clinton needs to admit that she’s a Lesbian!
Being a Lesbian does not rule out someone running for President. However, lying about one’s homosexuality and pretending to be someone they are not, does.
It is interesting that the Democrats and their accomplices in the Main Stream Media were so eager to out Dick Cheneys’ daughter Mary. (Remember Kerrys’ scurrilous Debate tactics and more recently Wolf Blitzers interview with the Vice President?).
Yet for some reason, the Media seems not to be interested in asking the leading Democrat contender for President about her sexual proclivities!
Mary Cheneys sex life was nobody’s business. But, for anyone running for President of the United States, Commander in Chief, it absolutely becomes everyone’s business.
You think that Charlie Trie and John Huang and their comrades in Chinese Intelligence circles wouldn’t exploit Hillary under these circumstances(as if they haven’t already). It’s called putting our National Security at risk.
She also owes it to the electorate to be honest about her sexuality. The Homosexual voting bloc is generally considered to be the most single issue oriented voting minority. Their obsession with “mainstreaming” their gayness outweighs all other issues.
And Hillary does have a track record in this area. It wasn’t a coincidence when Slick’s first action as Commander in Chief was to implement “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” in the Military.
Also, do you think Hillary might have had some input when Slick appointed Reno, Shalala, and Albright to the Cabinet. ( where was Imus back in the day?, “Those are some nappy headed ho’s).
It is also fair game to ask Hillary if she would appoint the likes of R. O’Donnell to her Cabinet.
Remember, Slick appointed ineffectual, incompetent, disease addled Janet Reno as Attorney General simply because she was Gay. And how did that work out?
Not too well, especially if you were E. Gonzalez or one of the 12 children under 5 years old she ordered burned to death at Waco. Not to mention her underling Jamie Gorelick and the Wall. Jamie should go down in history as being lower than one B. Arnold.
So yeah, Hillary, in the best interests of the Country you need to come out of the Closet.

Of Course we miss you and wish you would do a gues vent or two….

Tough one. I guess I’d have to say I’d rather have Obama. I don’t think he’s necessarily more beatable. But if we actually get stuck with a Dem in the White House again, I think Obama would be less effective–at least for awhile–at ramming socialist policies through that would do untold damage to the economy and culture for generations to come. I think Hillary would be ramming new policies through before she even takes her hand off the Bible at her inauguration. I think Obama would need some ramp-up time because he’s so green. He would be most dangerous in a second term. He’s a genuine leftist, and he would do stuff that’s bad for the country. But not as quickly or as aggressively as she would. I’m not as scared of what his spouse would do to the country from behind the scenes, either.

I’m rooting for Hillary. I’d much perfer her over Obama for several reasons. Firstly, she is more easily defeated in the general election. Secondly, even if she wins the whole thing, I perfer having a nemesis I know how to deal with. Obama is the very definition of an empty suit, which means he’s either being very secretive about himself (meaning he’ll go arch-liberal bonkers once in power), or he really is just an empty figurehead (meaning he’ll be a rubber-stamp puppet of the party).
Lehosh on April 24, 2007 at 10:55 AM
You’ve got that right. Go check today’s DUmmieFUnnies. The DUmmies are literally orgasmic about the possibility of Gore running again.
And I am, too. I’m hoping for a Gore/Edwards ticket. Guaranteed to lose, and guaranteed to provide countless hours of hilarious entertainment.
The Silky Pony and the Goracle. I’ll bet the writers for the Tonight Show are drooling at all the potential comedy material.
It sure is amazing that the DUmmies actually think Gore could win, though. He makes Hillary seem electable.
Hell, I might vote for Gore. Imagine the fun you could have with a President Gore – imagine watching him have to actually DEAL with emissions and other environmental issues, rather than blabble about it. Imagine the liberals dismay when we don’t all run our cars on windmills overnight.
Imagine the fun conservative bloggers would have tallying up Gore’s “carbon footprint” every time he took a trip in Air Force One.
Sure, a Gore presidency would be a nightmare. But it’d be a FUNNY nightmare.
Gore/Edwards in ’08! The Silky Pony rides again.
Professor Blather on April 24, 2007 at 10:59 AM
This – of course – is my first choice.
Every Republican’s dream candidate for the Democrats. Run, John, run! (Kerry/Edwards, the reunion tour? Oh, yeah.)
Professor Blather on April 24, 2007 at 11:01 AM
Before it it all said and done, the Hillary “War Machine” will slice & dice Obama into cold cuts or offer him the VP slot earlier. Obama is much like Edwards four years ago — an empty suit waiting to be filled. Now that Edwards has off-shore “hedge fund” experience he now has a shot at Sec. Treasury or Commerce, if he backs Hillary. Still, plenty of time to make mistakes, but never forget this:
“Many of you are well enough off that … the tax cuts may have helped you,” Sen. Clinton said. “We’re saying that for America to get back on track, we’re probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.”
Wuptdo on April 24, 2007 at 11:15 AM
Don’t bet the ranch on that. That’s what was said in late ’05 about the ’06 elections, and the Dems never did take any position except “I’m not Bush”. I think they’ll be carried through the primaries on talking points without details and – even though Bush isn’t running – will get away mostly with variations on “I’ll repair Bush’s damage”.
eeyore on April 24, 2007 at 11:24 AM
Ha! I wish.
That said, I’m not sure what to make of this. I’m not sure Hillary can win if she can’t maintain that look of inevitability, and I’m not sure I want Obama to be the nom because Hillary might be easier to beat given how she’s entirely unlikeable. Of course if Gore runs this throws everything off predictionwise.
Bad Candy on April 24, 2007 at 11:33 AM
That might actually be some awful smart politics.
Add in all of the usual Democrat voters, toss in a helping of moonbats … and then add all of the people who would vote for a Clinton/Obama ticket ONLY because there is both a woman and a black on the ticket … and that’s a lot of votes.
If Democrats were smart, they’d be thinking like that. Fortunately, they aren’t smart.
Gore/Edwards in ’08. I’m so serial.
Professor Blather on April 24, 2007 at 11:53 AM
Bah. He is not electable. Empty suit and all. I relish seeing a debate with Fred! and any one of the three, Pantsuit, Emptysuit, or SilkyLawsuit. Wipe the floor with them, he will.

88% of Egyptians polled think that violence against civilians violates the principles of Islam. There’s either some massive cognitive dissonance going on over there or somebody translated “civilian” wrong.

I just posted this in the wrong thread. My very first comment on Hotair. Hi, nice to meet you all.
RightOFLeft on April 24, 2007 at 12:38 PM
Sweet.
Top five reasons for wanting Hillary to win the nomination:
5. The Gorebot gets to return to obscurity again
4. There are dozens of groups revving up their “swiftboat” engines with Clinton scandals to talk about
3. Defeating Hillary in the general election won’t cause massive race riots
2. More than 50% of polled Americans of every political persuasion have already said they refuse to vote for her
1. Fred!/Hillary debates: PRICELESS!
Freelancer on April 24, 2007 at 12:40 PM
I think if Hillary won, it wouldn’t be long before some right wing Nut (and I mean that affectionately) took her out.
ritemama on April 24, 2007 at 12:48 PM
Ironically, I think the Goracle draws from everybody but Hillary. Her supporters are the hardcore feminists who are more politically savvy than the nutroots. So Gore’s run will make a hillary nomination more likely and for that reason I am all for it. She is too shrill and disliked to win the presidency. Morris is just wrong.

TexasRainmaker on April 24, 2007 at 1:21 PM
Welcome to the nuthouse, RightOFLeft.
Yes, like a 6 foot tall, environmental-whacko Chuckie.
Really, apart from the ability to nominate SCOTUS judges, as long as we have a deadlocked Congress does it really matter who is President?
I mean, look at all of the new precedents…. Pelosi has put the House in charge of foreign policy, Reid has put the Senate in charge of the military and conduct of war, Bush has abdicated the veto power of the Executive Branch by not using his pen once in 7 freakin years, and on, and on.
So maybe Gore won’t be so bad. If the entire government is going to act like a kindergarden class, let’s put a clown in charge.
BacaDog on April 24, 2007 at 1:22 PM
A pox on both their houses.
My only wish is that the contest between Barry Hussein Obama and Hillary Rodham is so bitter and so filled with vitriol, that the the part of the Democrat Party that doesn’t see their candidate get the nod, stays home in 2008.
georgej on April 24, 2007 at 1:31 PM
Here’s the gold:
Harriet Tubman was a REPUBLICAN.
As were ALL of the original black abolitionists and civil rights leaders, including MLK.
http://www.nationalblackrepublicans.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=pages.BlackGOP&x=5389448
Nobody knows that we have been suing the Democratic National Party for reparations, (in the form of an apology only!) for their historically documented part in terrorism in the US through the use of the KKK and other means to replace black Republican leaders with Democrats over the years.
MSM doesn’t want that known at all.
Worked so good I guess Hillary doesn’t know it either.
.
The Machine on April 24, 2007 at 2:52 PM
This menace must be stopped. The media should be eating her alive over this, but AGAIN they won’t.
So the Democrats are slaves and Hillary is Harriet Tubman? Or the black audiences are the slaves? This is actually odd because I actually named her Hillary Tubman last year after she told a Harlem audience on MLK Jr. day that the GOP was running the house “… like a plantation, and you know what I’m talkin’ about!” Now she’s freeing slaves again, and at least twice has put on that disgusting southern accent. Sadly she’s been cheered when she’s done it.
Again, the media should end her over this behavior, but they obviously won’t.
