Video: Waffles a Truther?

posted at 3:58 pm on April 23, 2007 by Allahpundit

Nah, just a doofus who was put on the spot by cretins and didn’t know how to respond intelligently. Each of the Screw Loose Change guys has viewed this clip and pronounced him Truth-free. They think he’s simply confused about which wall the questioners mean: obviously they’re asking about one of the walls in WTC 7, the building they insist collapsed from a controlled demolition, but Kerry seems to think they mean the “slurry wall” located beneath the Twin Towers that keeps the Hudson River from spilling into lower Manhattan.

We pick on him enough here that I thought we’d do him a solid this time and debunk this before it gets started. Keep an eye out, though, for prominent politicians being questioned in this vein. I caught a clip of Obama being confronted by a moron seeking Truth at a rally a few weeks ago and he handled the tool’s question with aplomb. Scary to think this sort of thing is now so prevalent that you need a prepared answer for it.

What? Kerry making up truth? Like it’s the first time he’s ever done that.

Mazztek on April 23, 2007 at 4:07 PM

Kerry, wasn’t he the “truther” who said that every US soldier and marine in Vietnam committed war crimes?

Wasn’t he the “truther” who said that Nixon ordered him into Cambodia BEFORE he became President?

Remember, Kerry fought in Vietnam. Four months!

georgej on April 23, 2007 at 4:11 PM

Freak.

Viper1 on April 23, 2007 at 4:11 PM

I always ask, why is building 7 important? I mean why take it down?

You know what I hate most about truthers? The fact that it makes me rethink things like

1. Chappaquiddick

2. The whole Jack Ruby thing

3. The Iceburg Vs A Torpedo hit

4. Marilyn Monroe’s death

5. Maybe he really was her cousin . . .

- The Cat

P.S. Forget that last one

MirCat on April 23, 2007 at 4:12 PM

I missed what he said – I was distracted by that lavishly decorated stage.

Ok, just watched it again, looks like the audience at “BookPeople” (or whatever it is) was made up entirely of 8-10 9-11 Konspiracy Kooks.

John from WuzzaDem on April 23, 2007 at 4:14 PM

oh, we could never pick on him enough.
i mean… those memories are seared — seared – into his memory. Magic hat! War crimes!1!

good lord, i wish he would run again.

stevezilla on April 23, 2007 at 4:18 PM

God! Aren’t there more important things to be focusing one’s attention on instead of this? Did these people get tired of talking about the JFK Murder conspiracies?

These people reallly need to get a life.

asc85 on April 23, 2007 at 4:20 PM

Jeez, these nut jobs show up everywhere these days.

Are they going to show up at the next ComiCon and barrage Sulu with their ridiculous theories?

Malpaso on April 23, 2007 at 4:22 PM

But they’ve INVITED the nut jobs to do this, by being nut jobs of their own controlled demolitions.

The Therapist on April 23, 2007 at 4:31 PM

they’ve been honing their skills with seminar calls to talk radio.

No joke. I’ve gotten so lazy in my rebuttals of truthers, that if they bring up anything about a plane not hitting any of the locations; I ask “produce the plane or a single living passenger from the plane” – which gets them in a tizzy. It’s fun for a while, but its still sad.

lorien1973 on April 23, 2007 at 4:45 PM

Who wants to give the over/under on how many years before the Truthers’ version of events is included in U.S. history books?

natesnake on April 23, 2007 at 4:46 PM

What’s with the curtain? I’m surprised someone didn’t blurt out, “Heeeeeeeeeeere’s Johnny!”

JinxMcHue on April 23, 2007 at 4:58 PM

Is there a website around somewhere that’s leading a “Draft Kerry” movement to get him to run again in 2008?

If not … anybody wanna help me start one?

I love this man.

Do a search on TWA flight 800 and John Kerry. He’s claimed, several times, that it was brought down by terrorists.

Skywise on April 23, 2007 at 5:20 PM

He’s either pandering to nuts or he’s irresponsibly ignorant.

dorkafork on April 23, 2007 at 5:41 PM

I’t getting ugly, Truther-wise. I can tell you that every time I attend a moonbat protest rally the Truther contingent gets bigger and more vocal. It’s like some sort of spiritual cancer.

Chas on April 23, 2007 at 5:43 PM

And why’d he bring his mother with him?

bofh on April 23, 2007 at 5:56 PM

I’m just waiting for him to “waffle” on this issue, claiming that he is a “Truther”, but before was against it.

Rick on April 23, 2007 at 6:04 PM

What an ignorant bastard this ‘almost President’ is!

greggish on April 23, 2007 at 6:06 PM

Kerry looked like he did himself a solid.

Valiant on April 23, 2007 at 6:10 PM

Hey John, have your Butler turn on the the TV or talk radio once in awhile and you’ll find out about the Truthers, and lots of other stuff making the rounds, that all us little people already know about.

greggish on April 23, 2007 at 6:11 PM

Why is Kerry taking such questions from Truthers?

How far he’s fallen, to be doing the rounds to such audiences.

For a book published by “Public Affairs”, it’s doing pretty well I suppose, ranked 35 at Amazon. I guess if you’re prepared to stoop this low to promote it.

I wonder how much of his unspent 2004 campaign budget he allocated to buying copies?

Anil Petra on April 23, 2007 at 6:31 PM

Kerry should embrace the truthers. They are a solid, reliable and gullible voting block.

Could be a two-fer.

Hate to say I told everyone to get ready for this, and it’s only going to get worse. Within the year, the major networks will be doing big stories on the conspiracy theories, only they won’t seek out the debunking information that so many have worked so hard on over the years. They’ll tell the viewers that a lot of “questions are still unanswered” and they’ll have phone calls not returned from people in the administration, etc. that they’ll play up as odd that they wouldn’t want to talk about it, etc. etc. As always, arm yourself. Start by watching Screw Loose Change, then read up at the numerous debunking sites, and handles these assbags when they try to hit you with “The Truth”.

As for Kerry, he may not be “a Truther”, but he’s a scumbag for not ridiculing these people for their Trutherism.

RightWinged on April 23, 2007 at 9:11 PM

Asking someone like a Kerry if there was an investigation is stupid. Ask the insurance company who had to pay off. You think they didn’t double-check before handing out that CA$H?

As for Kerry pandering to them, what else can he do? They hate Bush, don’t they? He can’t afford to laugh at anyone sharing his BDS.

Can’t tell you what to make of that. Of course, there are the 250+ witnesses who saw a missile plume fly upwards and strike the plane…

MirCat on April 23, 2007 at 4:12 PM

Based on the question, they apparently think it was “pulled” because it’s owned by some Joooo named Silverstein who profited $5 million from having it knocked down.

If I remember correctly, John eFing Kerry stated as much on some Sunday talk show.

Too bad Traitor John can’t provide some Trutherism on his military records.

91Veteran on April 23, 2007 at 11:21 PM

Please tell me it’s not “prevalent” but just another rabid agenda?

…please?

Claire on April 23, 2007 at 11:28 PM

Don’t worry too much, Claire. People are allowed to believe what they wish, and to shout it as loud as they can. If they are wrong, they are wrong. As long as they don’t break any laws, it hurts nobody. Truthers won’t ever gain very much traction, as long as Popular Mechanics is around.

Freelancer on April 24, 2007 at 4:26 AM

Oops, that link was to PM’s FIRST smackdown of truthers. The more recent one was specifically aimed at Rosie O’Truther’s claims about WTC7 and steel being fireproof.

Freelancer on April 24, 2007 at 4:40 AM

Remember, folks: Almost half of America wanted this clown in the White House instead of Bush.

ZK on April 24, 2007 at 8:54 AM

From the video clip, Kerry primarily says that he has never before heard the claims they are making (which is quite remarkable, if not unbelievable) and that he’ll investigate it. There’s no need to waffle when you haven’t even committed to a position.

So, I don’t see how it can be concluded that he is or is not a Truther from this clip. Am I missing something?
