Such a peaceful religion.
A community debate over religious freedom surfaced in Western Pennsylvania last week when Dutch feminist author Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali refugee who has lived under the threat of death for denouncing her Muslim upbringing, made an appearance at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
Imam Fouad ElBayly, president of the Johnstown Islamic Center, was among those who objected to Hirsi Ali’s appearance.
“She has been identified as one who has defamed the faith. If you come into the faith, you must abide by the laws, and when you decide to defame it deliberately, the sentence is death,” said ElBayly, who came to the U.S. from Egypt in 1976.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali had to flee Europe because Islamists had made it unsafe for her to live there. So she came here. And now has to have 24/7 security here, just like she had to have there.
And now she is being threatened openly here, just like she was there.
She came here to be safe from Islamists like ElBayly. If the US isn’t safe for her, it isn’t safe for you or me either.

We might not be safe, but the 2nd amendment at least give us a fighting chance. Maybe thats all the edge Ayaan Hirsi Ali and her body guards need.

If it’s not safe for you and me…what exactly do we do about that? Lobby? Protest? Write letters to the editor?
Sorry, but the more this kinda crap goes unchallenged while radio jockeys are getting canned and publically excoriated for making jokes in incredibly poor taste makes me more convinced that the time is coming when more direct action will be necessary. Here’s hoping our government gets their collective heads out of their bums before then.

Nice. So he basically is threatening to kill her or at least inciting it. Nothing will happen to him of course. So frustrating.
Dash on April 22, 2007 at 7:19 PM
Considering the Muslim view of women as basically chattel, I am sure her outspokenness and bravery doubly irritate this fellow. All Muslim and ex-Muslim women who are speaking out now are in very great danger.
Glynn on April 22, 2007 at 7:28 PM
Absolutely nothing will be done or said about this @ssh@t in the MSM because that would be insensitive to his beliefs.
Let me ask about starting a Bible Study over the lunch our in my State Government office and I’ll make the evening news.
Freedom of speech? How quaint.
Pilgrim on April 22, 2007 at 7:28 PM
I just wrote the good lil Muslim Imam and reminded his holiness that he is in the US now and as befitting our 2nd amendment rights that his calling for someone’s death might have repercussions for himself if he chooses to act on his ‘religious’ beliefs to apostasy.

Fouad ElBayly, get the f*ck back to your dirty 3rd world pesthole from whence you came.

“Imam Fouad ElBayly has been identified as one who has defied American law. If you come into the United States, you must abide by the laws, and when you decide to defy them deliberately by attempting to kill someone, the sentence is to find yourself looking down the muzzle of my Ruger,” said Doghouse.

What more do we need to know about the Religion of Peace?

Imus didn’t pronounce a death sentence on anyone, Imam Fouad ElBayly has.
I’m sure there will be pickets and a nation wide call for his removal as a Cleric in the religion of peace.
Speakup on April 22, 2007 at 8:13 PM
The appropriate response to these radical Imams would be to charge them with incitement, making terroristic threats or whatever. Then declare the mosque or ‘Islamic Center’ a crime scene and padlock it. Tell the ‘flock’ they can bang their heads on the carpet at home.

I have a world of respect for Ayaan Hirsi Ali. I find her to be intellegent, articulate, humble, well educated and at times humorous!
sonnyspats1 on April 22, 2007 at 8:25 PM
This sounds like a lightly veiled threat to me. The authorities must take action.
And MirCat, I was speaking with my state representative earlier this afternoon concerning a left wing gun control bill introduced by the Philly reps… I’m gonna email him with this link and ask that action be taken ASAP. We will not submit to those self righteous sod eating SOB’s…

Hey Imam Fouad ElBayly, I embrace your religion. 5,4,3,2,1,
Now I renounce it. Now instead of threatening a woman face a man. You can’t do it. Your whole cult is based on having everybody never questioning a thing you say. To borrow an analogy from popular western pop culture you are the Borg. A group of beings who join together to work for one specific purpose. No dissension is allowed and “defective units” are removed from the collective. Sure you might find another mental defective to strap explosives to himself to commit suicide, an act frowned on by just about every other religion in existence, yet embraced by yours.
You have no power Imam and if you consider cartoons and women a big threat to your beliefs then maybe it is you who needs to reexamine your beliefs because to me they sure don’t sound too strong.
I think the west needs to as a whole refuse to recognize Islam as a religion, but rather what it really is, a place of refuge for serial killers, pedophiles, and woman abusers.

Such a
peacefulpieceful religion. There, fixed. Islam is, at its core, a scheme of world domination and subjugation masquerading as a “religion”.
steveegg on April 22, 2007 at 8:54 PM
And I suppose that Imam Fouad ElBayly is considered to be one of the moderate muslims. More and more I believe that the phrase ‘moderate muslim’ is an oxymoron.
It’t the imans that preach this kind of stuff to their people. They all should be arrest for inciting hate crime and deported or incarcerated.

Here’s my email to Pennsylvania’s Attorney General, Tom Corbett
Dear Sir:
It has been published in the Pittsburgh Trib-Review that the President of the Johnstown Islamic Center, Imam Fauad El Bayly, has stated publicly that Somali refugee, Ayaan Hirsi Ali must die…
“A community debate over religious freedom surfaced in Western Pennsylvania last week when Dutch feminist author Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali refugee who has lived under the threat of death for denouncing her Muslim upbringing, made an appearance at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
Imam Fouad ElBayly, president of the Johnstown Islamic Center, was among those who objected to Hirsi Ali’s appearance.
“She has been identified as one who has defamed the faith. If you come into the faith, you must abide by the laws, and when you decide to defame it deliberately, the sentence is death,” said ElBayly, who came to the U.S. from Egypt in 1976.”
She had to flee Europe because it became dangerous for her to stay. She comes here only to face the same threats from the “Religion of Peace”. What do you plan to do with Imam Fouad El Bayly and his terrorist threats??? Please reply by return email.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

That’s hate speech to me…can we ‘fire’ him from American soil please?
Poor girl…life is hard enough without a verbal sword at your neck.

Nothing will happen to ElBayly, he’s a democrat.
roninacreage on April 22, 2007 at 9:10 PM
If it’s uttered by a Muslim cleric, it’s not hate speech.
It’s protected.
And anyone can be a cleric.
drjohn on April 22, 2007 at 9:26 PM
Wait, let me get this straight…we have Muslim “preachers” in THIS NATION calling for someones MURDER, and no one is OUTRAGED???
IF this was some wacked out “christian” preacher, calling for the DEATH of someone for anything, let alone nothing more than FREEDOM OF SPEECH, the liberal democrats would be up in arms, the talking heads of the liberal news media would be demanding government action, the guy would have so many death threats on his life, he would have to move out of the Country, and the FBI would be knocking on his door.
WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HAPPENING TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA???
NRA4Freedom on April 22, 2007 at 9:33 PM
I call BS to the whole “religion of peace” statement.
Who said it? Where is the proof? You can’t swing a dead cat in the air without hitting some jihadist wanting to kill you and yours on his way to find virgins because he was “told to do so” in a mosque.
Who? Who said this was a religion of peace? Who stands by it today? Where are they? Where is the proof? Where are the acts of policing their own? Where are the moderates going after the extremist? Who?
Harry Reid? Ted Kennedy? Bill and Hillary Clinton? Lurch? WHO?????? Let’s name names people, search the blogs, search the Internet, find me the “Religion of Peace”……..
PinkyBigglesworth on April 22, 2007 at 9:53 PM
It’s not as much a veiled threat, but rather a call for the faithful to act. And the “America is not the jurisdiction where such a crime should be punished” is what he is using to protect himself from action against him. Like ‘I told em not to do it here’. Which is like “For informational purposes only.” and other disclaimers that everyone knows is just that.
- The Cat
P.S. I wonder if your AG will e-mail you back. I’ve sent things to DEMs and never heard anything from it. Well except when I get spam to accounts that never have recieved spam before.
MirCat on April 22, 2007 at 9:55 PM
is irrelevant. It is the jurisdiction in which the terrorist threat was made. It is therefore the jurisdiction in which it should be punished.
The Monster on April 22, 2007 at 10:14 PM
Oh Bryan, he’s just a “fringe” element and doesn’t even speak for 1% of Muslims. For the last time Islam is a religion of peace! (/sarcasm)
When are we going to wake up, stop walking on eggshells, and admit that ISLAM IS THE PROBLEM! Not “radical Islam”, not “a few bad actors”, etc. Islam is the problem, end of story. This war will never end. There will be lulls, but it won’t end.
RightWinged on April 22, 2007 at 10:38 PM
You know I have a rather funny retort but I am not going to say it because I think it will get me banned.
Where are these moderates who should be condemning rhetoric like this? Where are these moderates who should be reaching out to Ayaan Hirsi Ali to apologize for the way she has been treated throughout her life?

Isn’t there some LAW against threatening to kill somebody?
I just bought AHA’s other book, “The Caged Virgin”.
They just can’t stand for someone, especially a WOMAN talk back to them.
Tony737 on April 22, 2007 at 11:37 PM
I know Sharpton really has a passion for defending black womanhood. He really stood up for Tawana, and the Rutgers basketball team. Oh, I forgot. She’s not black, she’s, she’s, well I’m sure Rev Al could tell us what she is and isn’t. For sure she isn’t a Democrat, and that’s all Nancy Pelosi, and NOW need to know.
smellthecoffee on April 22, 2007 at 11:42 PM
I wonder if she could use another bodyguard? I’d be willing to take out as many of her enemies as needed. If our laws can’t protect her then let me do it.
KCtheKat on April 22, 2007 at 11:43 PM
A white guy calls for the death of a black woman-
And the media doesn’t notice?
A white religious guy calls for the death of a gay black woman-
And the media doesn’t notice?
A patriarchal religious white guy calls for the death of a beautiful gay black woman-
And the media doesnt notice?
Oh, I get it, he’s a Muslim!
(Absolved of all crimes, pre-emptively.)
profitsbeard on April 23, 2007 at 12:02 AM
If he came from Egypt in 1976, could this provide any basis for deporting him? I’ve no idea how such things work.
As for Sharpton and Ayli, she’s an actual African-American (well, or soon-to-be American; I don’t recall her current immigration status). That’s a bad thing for Sharpton; people actually originating from African cultures–and particularly those willing to point out how scummy they are–undermine the identity politics of those dedicated to differentiating themselves as “African” solely by virtue of their skin color.
Blacklake on April 23, 2007 at 12:12 AM
There was quite an interesting article in the New York Times magazine a year or so ago which pointed out the fact that AFRICAN/HAITIAN/CUBAN/TRINIDADIAN/ETC. Americans who are black DON’T qualify as “African“-American. You know: the hyphenated, Sharpton kind.
Needless to say, there were quite a few pissed off, newly disenfranchised Marines in major dad’s office when they read it and found out “African-American” was an exclusive club. Here this whole time they thought you just had to be black and now the Jesse/Al crowd was telling them they didn’t count/weren’t ‘real‘ blacks.

Another example of the “moderate” Muslim. When, when, when is the majority of the electorate and their representatives going to wake up to what Islam really is?
Threats against someone in the United States by someone living here should be aggressively prosecuted. I would appreciate Zorro following up and letting know if he gets a response and what the content of that response is if he gets one.
omegaram on April 23, 2007 at 1:47 AM
I realize I had a comment removed here in the last few days, having said that, if you wish to remove this one that is certainly your right.
Anyone who calls for the death of an individual in the United States should be rounded up and locked up or in the interest of saving tax dollars incarcerating them, either shipped to the backwards country of their choice or taken out and given a lethal injection. This is of course my opinion.

Hate to break it to you but Bush is the one who coined the “Religion of Peace” phrase. He said in a speech shortly after 9/11.
JaHerer22 on April 23, 2007 at 9:46 AM
J22, Bush didn’t “coin the phrase”. Muslims have been calling it that for centuries. It’s all part of their P.R. propaganda. A muslim army would surround a Jewish or pagan village and tell them to either convert, submit or die. “See how peaceful we are? We give you a chance to join us before we kill you.” They’re still using the same play book … they call it the Koran.
Tony737 on April 23, 2007 at 10:01 AM
Okay, I’m sure Muslims have said it before, but it was brought into the public vernacular and turned into a talking-point of sorts by Bush in a speech 6 days after 9/11.
I just found it ironic Pinky was attempting to lead a crusade to uncover where the term came from and who was using it by throwing the blame on everyone’s favorite Democratic scapegoats when in reality its origin can be traced back to everyone’s favorite neocon.
I’m a fan of irony, what can I say?
