[...] In addition to all that, a system of buying, selling, and trading coupons which have no actual value is absolutely moronic. This ridiculous and completely stupid idea has been compared to the church selling “tithes” or indulgences to sinners back a few hundred years ago, so that they can purchase repentance for the sins and remain heaven-worthy.
There was a link to a website that, I think, came via Hotair, which parodied this perfectly. They were selling "fidelity offsets". The idea was that if you cheated on your spouse or "significant other", you could simply buy some fidelity credits from someone who was faithful. By paying the money you absolve yourself.

This could be applied in many other ways..."sexism offsets", racism offsets", even "body odour" offsets. For example, I shower twice a day...if you feel a little grubby, just send me a couple of bucks and I will email you some "body odour credits", and everything will be okay. If anyone complains that you smell bad, just show them the email credit I send you, and tell them to shut up.

Of course, Mr. Gore has taken this idea to a whole new level...on top of buying carbon offsets for his huge "carbon footprint", he actually owns the company from which the offsets are purchased. Thus, he pays himself for his carbon credits...not bad, eh?

Sorry, the Hawtness quotient of a Fox News Babe is cut in half whenever she moves to CNN.

However, there’s nothing wrong with Robin Meade and Betty “look at my legs” Nguyen….

Be that as it may, they have some serious/scary talent over there. I won't watch it, so I don't have names. Being from Chicago, I alway knew Meade was Hawt, and then they had that Iranian yummy, Rudi B.

What is really stupid is the percentage of Americans who believe that offsets mean less pollution.

What is really really stupid is to sit back and watch so many people eat this up - I mean the whole global warming package.

George Will said it best in his column - What is the "right" temperature for the Earth? When much of the midwest was under 1000 feet of ice several thousand years ago - was that the right temperature? And how did that ice disappear without industrialization? How about when grapes grew wild in Canada - was that the right temperature?

Will any of these people stop to think about this for one moment?

No less of a fraud when you’re told that paying someone else to pray for your absolution is the only chance of forgiveness. If you read your Bible you know that the price of forgiveness was paid once and for all, and your prayers don’t require a middle-man; dial direct. Anyone who tells you that personal contact with God is unavailable or unacceptable is a liar and a thief.

Of course! We're in agreement. But, the indulgences fraud was effective as a fraud because there's enough truth in the presentation to make it appealing to desperate people. That is, prayer and petition are effective. The lie was: not in those circumstances. Anyone who knew their scriptures wasn't fooled, but many who had an incomplete understanding, that is poor at best (which were many in those mostly illiterate times), fell for it because it sounded correct. The church was indeed at fault for pushing it, but provoked the corrective action of the Reformation. Martin Luther was obviously not the only Catholic priest at the grass-roots level who had problems with such practices, among others who then formed the Protest, and later Protestantism.
Carbon credits on the other hand, are a complete self- delusion. Carbon credit itself is a mythical concept, a construct of pure rhetoric, that never existed before in human history. Those who fell for indulgences at least were doing it most times in concern for someone else's salvation, which was for the hereafter, not for the here and now. Carbon credits are to soothe the guilt of the over-indulger. With no grounds on which to stand, the carbon-credit spender must have a "faith" that exceeds the lowly indulgence-purchasers. "Carbon-indulgences" is a truer use of the definition "indulgence" than the Medieval church fund-raising indulgences. Carbon indulgences are for the temporal world to encourage the hedonistic buyer to continue in his or her over-consuming ways, not to deny himself or herself anything. Yeech!

Kiran Chetry might just be a good thing for al-cnn. Like Beck's show is. They NEED conservative viewers.

I just hope Kiran stays as strong as I've seen her on FNC. She's a gorgeous and fearless little pit bull. Might even tune in just to see how she does.

At some point, the bubble-thin facade of the leftie msm and dem party is going to crack and shatter and collapse into a million pathetic little pieces.

It can not happen soon enough.

Carbon credits are more of a complete fraud than indulgences. At least prayer and petition does have some track record of success, unlike “carbon credits.”

Be sure to send you relief of guilt-save the earth contribution-donation to me, William, at 1234 Northeast Southwest Street, RU Gullible, Pennsylvania, USA, or visit WWW.Givemeyourmoneyandrelieveourguilt.com.

For questions you can email me at "William-Illtakeyourmoney@CarbonCreditsisBaloney.com

As little as a dollar (multiplied by millions) is good, but if you can donate $100 per person, or even $10,000, or even 1,000,000, that would be even better.

Don't let polluting the atmosphere or the land or waters get you down, and don't let your bad actions, or "sins" put you in a bad way.

Send your donations now!

Thank you!

Didn’t Martin Luther tack up a rebellion to this kind of thing a few centuries ago?

This is a similarity with the church back then, buying you're atonement. But this "growing market" is exactly why the Goracle is touting global warming so much. Its always been about the pay day, and that needs to be shouted from the fraking rooftops.

Maybe Shrillary Clinton could come up with something to grab a little of that "star power" from Mr. Inconvenient Truth. I know! How about she "invents" some imaginary offset program too? She could open a company that sells "fidelity offsets"-- so you can cheat on your spouse and it won't count! Brilliant! And, how convenient, Bill could be her best customer! All over America husbands will be saying, "Honey, I slept with a prostitute last winter and she's the reason I gave you that wicked case of venereal warts... but don't you give it another thought cause on my way home I bought these new fidelity offsets..." **cue the chirping crickets** followed closely by a loud noise that neighbors will later describe as a car backfiring...//

All over America husbands will be saying, “Honey, I slept with a prostitute last winter and she’s the reason I gave you that wicked case of venereal warts… but don’t you give it another thought cause on my way home I bought these new fidelity offsets…” **cue the chirping crickets** followed closely by a loud noise that neighbors will later describe as a car backfiring…//

The carbon offests that Al Gore bought were from a company that he owns. In other words, he was making a profit off himself. Come to think of it, it's almost like they're lying to us. . . .

Where has this guy been for the last two months? Carbon credits and indulgences hit hot on the internet and talk radio. It's great insight at CNN now? Do they just crib things off the blogs and then wait a bit, to pass them off as their own ideas?
Like 100 debates ago. Old Media.

Carbon credits are more of a complete fraud than indulgences. At least prayer and petition does have some track record of success, unlike "carbon credits."

Carbon credits are a way for wealthy liberals like Barbra Streisand, John Edwards, Al Gore, George Soros, etc. to rationalize their hypocrisy, using far more energy and polluting the earth far more than average Americans.

Because they are so much more enlightened than the benighted Americans, they are entitled to their 2000 dollar a month electricity and gas bills and their private jets.

januarius, exceptionally said! I'd add Travolta, B & H Clinton, Obama, Richardson (new 'green' add not withstanding, most of Hollywood figures, polititians, newsfigures... Also, it's not an exclusively liberal club - see A. Schwarzenegger, though it c/b argued that he's really a liberal. If so, see Gingrich.

Any properly run company will do that same…. So not only will cap and trade will not result in any reduction, it cause job losses, and create businesses who’s sole function is rent seeking, you know like the last time around with the sulfur credits, and enron.

Yes, CIR...but in typical 'logical' liberal fashion then they'd blame Mr. Bush for not signing the Kyoto treaty in the first place and, thus, causing all these job losses...the activist media would happily go along.

I’m still considering starting a carbon credit business though. Why not? All you have to do is, not do stuff, and people pay you not to do it!
Well, heck yeah! I use way less electricity than the national average and I bike to work once or twice a week. I'll be glad to keep doing that if some rich fool wants to pay me!
