Audio: President of NOW a little hazy on the details of partial-birth abortion

Another “emotional” issue, eh? That’s okay. As we saw last night, you don’t have to actually know what you’re talking about so long as your motives are pure.

Thanks to Nick R., Wilkow’s producer, for sending this along. It’s from yesterday’s interview with Kim Gandy, who graciously agreed to appear to discuss the Supreme Court ruling in the partial-birth abortion case. It runs about eight minutes, so if you’re pressed for time skip ahead to about halfway through.

Worth noting: the Court’s decision wasn’t the only opinion offered yesterday that’s leaving feminists filled with heart-ache.

no surprise that the emotional fanatics in the abortion deal don’t know their head from their ass

Defector01 on April 19, 2007 at 1:23 PM

Either she’s stupid or she will not/cannot let the actual information of the procedure get into her knowledge base. In which case, she is not only stupid but is beastly with it. We need to pay attention to these “folk”. They will talk, talk, talk, over-talk and never address any issue BECAUSE they do not have facts to fight with only insane ideology!

sharinlite on April 19, 2007 at 1:30 PM

If you don’t care to know all about the topic you are being an activist for; are you really an activist? Or a propogandist?

lorien1973 on April 19, 2007 at 1:33 PM

Anyone know the differnce between partial birth abortion and murder?

15″ and $1000.

15″ is the length of the baby. $1000 is what you pay the doctor.

Kill the baby while partially in mom? Good.

Kill the baby when outside the mom? Bad.

15″ and $1000 is what seperates a well paid docter from a felony murderer.

natesnake on April 19, 2007 at 1:45 PM

I’ll bet she can give good advice in the stock market also.
She giggles like she on her third glass of wine.

Kini on April 19, 2007 at 1:48 PM

NOW: committed to keeping the “Art” in “Partial Birth Abortion.”

Ironically, there was a photo on the front page of the Journal this week of an Indian woman protesting abortion as a popular means of sex-selection.

Indian couples want boys, so if the ultrasound shows a girl, they abort. If you understand how that’s pro-woman, you too could be president of NOW.

saint kansas on April 19, 2007 at 1:51 PM

Wow, she’s pathetic. She might as well have just put her hands over her ears and yelled “La la la la la”. I don’t believe that she doesn’t know what the procedure is, she just doesn’t want to have to talk about it.

It’s a disgrace this procedure, comparable to some sick Nazi genocide tactic, was ever allowed in this country. I’m glad the SCOTUS upheld the ban.

CP on April 19, 2007 at 1:56 PM

Hah!! I am sure she knows exactly what PBA and other abortion procedures involve.

Show pictures and describe abortion procedures, then we’ll see how much support NOW gets. Anyone who has seen those tiny dismembered limbs will never forget them. They are as horrible as pictures from the Holocaust.

And how about some forthright discussion on the emotional impact of abortion on women and what the procedures can do to harm a woman’s reproductive system.

I am torn between anger and weeping over this. Women who should be among those who are nurturers, caring for the welfare of children, instead responsible for obfuscating the truth and helping to perpetuate the killing of innocents and scarring the bodies and hearts of the mothers.

INC on April 19, 2007 at 1:56 PM

Abortion is somewhere in the house of cards which Liberals seem to keep suspended in mid air by fancy juggling. If they were ever forced to give ground on any one of their core ‘beliefs’, the house falls and they are left with nothing.

Doug on April 19, 2007 at 1:59 PM

you’re not a wonam…you won’t have children….you will never understand….

Gee, where else could we apply the same logic?

CBarker on April 19, 2007 at 2:10 PM

She obviously knows damn well what the procedure is. She just also knows damn well that to say on the airwaves what the procedure is will immediately shock, horrify and disturb just about every listener and drive them onto the side who’s argument is opposed to this procedure. She knows damn well that the vast majority of women who are on the woman’s right to choose side are there because they structure their arguments so as to tap into the people’s emotions rather then appeal to the logic of a debate about when human life begins and what is the definition of murder? She knows that to describe this procedure will not win her the emotional side of this argument. People need to know what this procedure is and just how horrific and over the line it truly is. This woman would disagree with my previous scentence and that tells you everything you need to know.

Zetterson on April 19, 2007 at 2:12 PM

So, according to this woman, Roe v. Wade “interpreted the Constitution,” but this decision was just “political.”

Incredible hypocrisy.

morganfrost on April 19, 2007 at 2:15 PM

I do NOT understand this woman. How the hell can this procedure be used to protect the life or health of any woman? This procedure is basically the same as childbirth, though it seems like it would be MORE difficult, because they’re “delivering” the child breach, not head first. I’m not a doctor, but I cannot imagine a legitimate circumstance where a PAB would be medically safer than birth.

tikvah on April 19, 2007 at 2:16 PM

She sounds like she believes us gals come with some sort of warning system.
!!!!!About to go blind!!!!!! Alert about to go blind!!!!!!!
Abort!!!!!Abort!!!!!!Abort!!!!!!!

bloggless on April 19, 2007 at 2:21 PM

The propaganda aspect in these debates is outrageous. A common tactic by the left is to change the name of something in order to make it sound nice. Liberal becomes a dirty word so lets change it to “progressive.” Partial Birth Abortion is too accurate so lets just call it a “late term” abortion. That sounds better. Its not socailism it just “takes a villiage.” Gun bans become gun “control.” Whats the alternative? Out of control guns? Who could be for that? They are not illegal immigrants they are “guest workers” despite the fact that they are neither guests nor are they workers. We are not going to raise you taxes but we are going to stop the Republicans from making the tax cuts permanent. Social security. Don’t get me started on that. Socialized healthcare becomes “universal” healthcare or even worse, “free healthcare for everybody.” Shame on everybody who falls for this crap.

Zetterson on April 19, 2007 at 2:31 PM

Wow!

With an idiot like Gandy at the helm, it’s not surprising that NOW has been going down the tubes…. Badly!

Jack.

Jack Deth on April 19, 2007 at 2:41 PM

Did she really say that this procedure should be available/performed if the mother’s fertility is in jeopardy? Kill this baby so the mother can try again?? Maybe I didn’t hear her right………….

KennyB on April 19, 2007 at 2:56 PM

Sheesh, talk about not having a clue. If you don’t know about something, how can you argue for/against it?

dalewalt on April 19, 2007 at 2:58 PM

RUDY LIED! NOT-QUITE-PEOPLE DIED!

Enrique on April 19, 2007 at 3:07 PM

Laura Ingraham called it this morning: this decision is going to force the abortion supports to talk about what really happens when a child is killed. They have been able to dance around it in the past, but now they will have to acknowledge the infanticide procedures. Or, continue to dance…….

Mallard T. Drake on April 19, 2007 at 3:15 PM

KennyB on April 19, 2007 at 2:56 PM

She said a lot of things I thought I didn’t quite hear right but one thing is glaringly clear. She will support anything in the abortion realm, ANYTHING, without even knowing what she is talking about, without having seem the procedure, without knowing medically about the procedure. But she WILL support it damnit!

Glynn on April 19, 2007 at 3:20 PM

As noted earlier, somewhere, the devil is in the details.

But let’s review, shall we, Ms. Gandy?

Sticking scissors into the skull of a partialy birthed child is bad. Not sticking scissors into the skull of a partially birthed child is good.

Scissors = bad; no scissors = good.

I can see why libs have trouble with this….rose colored glasses impair black & white decisions.

locomotivebreath1901 on April 19, 2007 at 3:25 PM

WOW!
I can’t believe her incompetence. She HAS to know what the procedure is (doesn’t she?) she just does not want to describe it. And to analogize the procedure to an appendectomy! Is anyone fighting for the rights of the appendix?! UGH.

And what a low blow to laugh and say, “Oh, your mother
didn’t want you?” I thought she was for abortion rights not against. If she is pro choice she should have admitted that the interviewer not being here is a very real possibility, too bad his mother did not have a choice like women do today, etc…
Plus, how stupid to just end an argument with you won’t have children so you will never have to face the decision.
Well, if this is a truly a “health”/life situation then NOBODY will be faced with this decision except for the doctor who could very well be a MALE.

Ironically, I am pro choice so this type of representation is embarassing to me.

natesnake on April 19, 2007 at 1:45 PM–Good call.

HH on April 19, 2007 at 3:26 PM

I am a (gasp) pro-choice Republican, but….I do believe after the first trimester it should be allowed only to save the life of the mother or if the baby has extreme disabilites which would lead to a life of pain. I have yet to hear anyone explain how a woman’s health, going through the birthing process, is protected if you murder the child as it is born.

bopbottle on April 19, 2007 at 3:27 PM

Is this just me?

I get the distinct impression that these pro-abortion fanatics literally hate the unborn.

infidel4life on April 19, 2007 at 3:39 PM

From yesterday’s Boxer thread:

Well, I’m an ER doc, not OB/GYN, so I invite anyone to correct me also. You are correct that preeclampsia can threaten the mom’s life, and that the definitive treatment is delivery. It usually occurs after 32 weeks of gestation, but may occur earlier in women with hypertension or kidney disease. I don’t see any reason why PBA would be necessary; the fetus can be delivered and, if potentially viable, supported in the neonatal ICU.

Honestly, I cannot think of a situation where PBA would be necessary to protect the life of the mom. Again, feel free to correct me.

A baby born at 21 weeks just went home from the hospital in February:

When she was born, Amillia Taylor was shorter than a ballpoint pen and weighed only 284 grams.

Doctors say Amillia, who was born by C-section at 21 weeks and six days into her pregnancy, is the youngest premature baby ever to survive.

INC on April 19, 2007 at 3:47 PM

40 weeks is the normal gestation period.

I’m no doctor, just a mom, but ectopic pregnancies (the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus) are about the only type I know of at the moment when the mom would die (I had a friend who had massive hemorrhaging) and in that case the baby would as well.

However, I expect at some point doctors will figure out a way to move the little one to the womb.

Viability is just getting earlier and earlier.

I think little Amillia is the youngest on record.

INC on April 19, 2007 at 3:54 PM

If I can sound like Glenn Greenwald for a minute…

I love how we need to protect the right of women to aspirate their babies brains in order to protect the right of women to have children.

John on April 19, 2007 at 4:05 PM

SHe actually is happy that there are more single mothers now than before.
That alone DQs her in my book for any more she has to say.

bbz123 on April 19, 2007 at 4:24 PM

Liberals confound logic. Again.

The same crowd with their panties in a bunch over the need for new gun control measures, fueled by the shooting of 32 students and professors at Virginia Tech, have no qualms about executing 20 million unborn infants in the womb … or halfway out of the womb.

….What? Someone has to say it. Murderous B!tch.

Tim Burton on April 19, 2007 at 5:57 PM

…I take that back. She can’t be a Murderous B!tch…No man would have sex with her. She’s too ugly.

Tim Burton on April 19, 2007 at 5:57 PM

Wait…Actually I have to take that last post back. She could have gotten artificially inseminated to have had an abortion.

Tim Burton on April 19, 2007 at 5:58 PM

Actually, I’ll bet it was aliens from “da outer voild that impregnated her to have the abortion.

Kini on April 19, 2007 at 6:46 PM

I understand that this is audio so you need to post a picture in place of a video. But ummm why did you pic a picture of Bill O’Reilly in drag?

- The Cat

P.S. The line “I’m not questioning your intelligence or your education. . ” was something that the Roman Senator Cicero used to use. It’s kind of like saying “I would never call Senator Kennedy a drunken murderer, no you would never hear me say that.”

MirCat on April 19, 2007 at 7:00 PM

Look, instead of shoving the sissors in the infants skull while the infant is still in the birth canal, why would you chance to miss the skull and hurt the mother? Allow the baby full birth and then murder the infant independant of the mother, right in front of her eyes. That should make NOW happy!

NEMETI IN SYRACUSE on April 19, 2007 at 8:34 PM

She wants to allow partial birth abortions in order to save a woman’s ability to get pregnant again in order to possibly perform another partial birth abortion. This is idiocy to the nth degree.

dawgyear on April 19, 2007 at 8:34 PM

My son was born 5 1/2 weeks early because his mommy had high blood pressure. He spent two weeks in intensive care, and once turned blue in front of me, because I never left his side. After I alerted the nurses on duty, “Good Catch” I believe, was the phrase they used.

He came home, gradually put on weight, the four months of colic were fun, and now consumes me with how much in Love I am with him, how I want to be the best Father possible, and how I would kill to protect him.

No, I will never get pregnant, but again, she will never know what it means to be a true Father, and living up to that responsibility on a daily basis, and the bond and Love that forms between a Father and a Son.

It’s not a choice, it is a human being.

PinkyBigglesworth on April 19, 2007 at 9:40 PM

Here is the verdict – SHE IS A DOPE! WOW! I gotta think that Jerry Falwell paid her off.
