Fox News: Was Cho possessed by the devil?

Dude.

When unexplained violence takes center stage, we tend to turn to modern psychology to explain it.

But there is an alternative explanation, one that has been played out in film, stage and writings since the beginning of history.

Was Cho Seung-Hui schizophrenic … psychotic … manic-depressive? Or were the shooting deaths of 32 people, including Cho himself, at Virginia Tech University part of the ongoing struggle between God and Satan … good against evil … lightness and darkness?

Could Cho have been possessed by the Devil? Could that explain the massacre at Virginia Tech?

Dr. Richard Roberts, president of Oral Roberts University, shouts an unequivocal “Yes!”

“Based on what I’ve seen in the news,” Roberts said in an interview, “there’s no doubt that this act was Satanic in origin.”

There follows some quibbling over whether the Dark Lord possessed or merely “oppressed” him, which apparently is a crucial distinction. But then, you know what they say — the devil’s in the details.

Since we’re picking on Fox, here’s Geraldo’s moment of shame from Monday night, pointing out wanusmaximus’s LiveJournal page for all of America to see. He never actually identifies him, even by his alias, so at least it’s a crash landing he can walk away from.

Enough? Why, it just happened. People would like to know more details, and if the Anna Nicole Smith and Imus stories got massive brain torching coverage then I think this one deserves at least as much.

As a side note, anyone wondering if Imus wishes this had happened a week earlier or so? He’d probably still have a job.

I wrote Fox a lengthy email, telling them to pull Geraldo and Shep off the story for all of their idiocy down there, ESPECIALLY the video you included here. I’m not even going to watch the clip again because he pisses me off so much, but I’ll give a couple highlights that may be in that or were at other times in the same night… He talked about the “hateful” comments on the site, talks about the kids posing with his “arsenal”, about the “wave of electricity” that went through the room with him and his research team when they heard about the site. Keep in mind this raving lunatic (Geraldo, not Cho) was going off like this HOURS AFTER AP AND OTHERS DEBUNKED THE WANUSMAXIMUS ANGLE!!! This was when the media was still operating under the BASELESS “ex-girlfriend” angle, and Geraldo also read an Eminem quote from wanus’ site about killing girlfriends.

Geraldo, I doubt you are, but I hope you are reading this: You’re a piece of garbage. So are you Shep. Quick, go find some black children to hold up to the camera while you cry and beg “let my people go!”

Speakup on April 18, 2007 at 10:10 PM

I think this has everything to do with murder and evil. If any terrible action committed by a person can be dismissed as a result of mental illness, does anything count as evil? Your comment smacks of the view common among liberals that people are slaves to their environment and don’t have any free will.

At what point will we stop blaming atrocities on mental illness and start saying that there are some just plain evil people out there?

PaisleyCow on April 18, 2007 at 10:30 PM

JetBoy on April 18, 2007 at 10:11 PM

If i remember right, Geraldo actually approached Fox, not the other way around. He was on CNBC when 9/11 happened and apparently they (cnbc) wouldn’t send him to Afghanistan to report. He asked Fox if they would send him and they obviously said yes. Although i think he didn’t leave CNBC until after the war in Iraq started.

But BacaDog beat me to it, so I won’t type it. ;-)

LegendHasIt on April 18, 2007 at 10:53 PM

boy, I remember watching this live monday night. I wanted to reach into the TV and slap him….

dead-duck on April 18, 2007 at 10:53 PM

You either like Geraldo or you don’t. I suspect as many people watch him because they don’t as because they do .. but people do watch him & that is why he is on Fox.

Shep is another matter .. tell me again why we don’t like Shep?? .. he is neither involved nor mentioned in this thread until he becomes a piece of garbage far down in the comments.

As for the possession issue, someone capable of the senseless murders of 32 people must be possessed by SOMETHING.

DJ Dubya on April 18, 2007 at 11:02 PM

JetBoy on April 18, 2007 at 11:10 PM

Evil, sick, or both? I say both.

Which caused what? I say Evil caused the sickness.

DANEgerus on April 18, 2007 at 11:18 PM

Well, Cho couldn’t be more happier right now where ever he is. The MSM are giving him considerably more time than Andy Worhol’s 15 minutes of fame.

In fact, he’s getting the 24/7/30 treatment, with his picture running on constant playback every minute, while reporters and reporterettes voice-overs are wondering “what’s it all about, Alfie?”.

Didn’t we just go through this with Anna Nicole Smith?

But, who am I to question the motives of the MSM?

Shep tries to be as sensational as Geraldo and has been disgusting at VT. And didn’t you get my reference about him and the G man both in New Orleans? That was unprofessional and ridiculous.

But he’s also revealed his liberalism more and more lately. The only specific examples I remember are of him starting a global warming story saying that the “science is in/the debate is over” in his own words, not quoting someone. He also called that Harold Ford Jr. Playboy ad “racist”, even though no out outside of the far left could come to that conclusion. Those are just off the top, but I’ve heard his liberal editorializing and tone when reporting on Iraq time and again, etc. etc.

But he was down there hyping the wanus crap the first night in VT too. He has been Geraldo Jr. down there.

Geraldo gets into this reportage frenzy when he is on location on big stories. I admit it is fun to watch in the same way that I watch Maury or Dr Phil…speaking of which, Phil had on a grandfather/molester who claimed it was the devil that caused him to go after his granddaughter so his son and daughter-in-law should just get over it.

Who was the comedian who said Jesus must be getting sick of all these people who find him only after they royally screw up their lives?

Geraldo comes close to doing this to me.

Connie on April 19, 2007 at 12:14 AM

Cho was both sick and evil. His whole “its your fault I’m doing this” schtick is identical to what every spouse abuser and Australian-Muslim-rapist spouts. They know damn well there is no excuse for what they are doing, so they try to justify it by blaming the victim.
Look in his eyes in all the pictures. Remember that this was premeditated, methodically, over a period of several days if not months. He may have been psychotic, but he was clearly in control of his actions and was well aware of what he was doing. He chose to hate, and he chose to murder.

I feel for the survivors and the families of those who did not. I also feel for Cho’s family. How does one live down a shame like this?

On another note, there seems to be no indication that I am aware of that Islam or any religion had anything to do with is motivation.

Connie on April 19, 2007 at 1:07 AM

A small tidbit on Mr. Rivera and his ilk. I was a Rescue Team Manager for a Federal Urban Search & Rescue Team at the Murrah Federal Building bombing in Oklahoma City. Our team was the last in so we were in body recovery at that point. The word we got on our “site security” briefing from the FBI was that Mr. Rivera had tried to infiltrate the crime scene by donning firefighter’s garb and thereby gaining exclusive access to the immediate recovery site. He was caught and escorted from the area. One of his peers, Ms. Connie Chung had been escorted to the state line at the direction of the Governor after being caught in a nurse’s outfit trying to get first person interviews with some of the survivors while they were still in the local emergency room. Whether all this is verifiable is hard to say at this point in time, but I certainly was left with an indelible impression of those two stalwarts of the media and the depths they would stoop to get their faces front and center on TV. With the VT tragedy, I see Mr. Rivera is still using any such circumstance to further his career.

“There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.”

– C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters

“The Devil made me do it, Honey!”

– Geraldine

A human is never without choice. God allows free will, which in turn allows the potential for evil. But it absolutely leaves noone with an excuse. If you choose evil, no matter how much you are influenced by your environment, drugs, peers, enemies, Satan, or your little sister, it was still your choice. With understandable exceptions, most people with unstable mental conditions got that way through bad choices.

In Judaism, however, there is no belief in a supernatural evil

Have they not read the first chapters of Genesis?

Centurion68 on April 19, 2007 at 6:54 AM

Yikes. I don’t care what Dan Rather says, FOX doesn’t cater to conservatives. FOX caters to a charicature of conservatives.

People’s belief in the Devil notwithstanding, isn’t it kind of reaching to suggest that the guy was possessed by the Prince of Darkness? That is of course a personal observation someone has to make for themselves, but it just seems to me that, historically, when Beelzebub takes the wheel he seems to be a little more subtle.

NBC and the rest of the MSM just increased the liklihood of copy-cat murders by at least an order of magnitude. Copy-cats will see the Cho videos and say to themselves, “If I kill, the MSM will give me EXACTLY what I want. Fame, notoriety, attention. My words will be broadcast over and over endlessly to the entire world.”

To me, it shows that it is the MSM (and not Cho or Geraldo) that is clearly “possessed by the devil.” The people in the MSM media only care that they “get the story OUT THERE” and that all the swirling controversy brings in advertising revenue. They could not care less that the wackos out there are encouraged to kill others as the result of their actions.

As a christian, I do believe that he was possessed. However the devil is an enticer, he does not control an individuals movements. Think of the devil as the used car salesman that sells you a lemon. The person still has the choice to buying the lemon or not. I think Psy-cho was influenced by evil spirits but he did these actions.

By the way, if my comments have offended any used car salesman, I appologize

JVelez on April 19, 2007 at 9:34 AM

People can joke about the Satan aspect, but in Christian belief it is no joke:

Peter 5:8 (New International Version)

8)Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour

Ephesians 6:11 (New International Version)

11) Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

Chronicles 21

1) Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel

Acts 10:38 (New International Version)

38) how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

2 Corinthians 2:11 (New International Version)

11)in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.

You are either a child of God or a child of Satan. You choose. Psy-Cho is burning in hell now.

Geraldo is just an obnoxious attention whore who NEVER shuts up! He could monologue for a week about a carrot.

After Geraldo got his nose broke with a chair, he just hasn’t been right.

Peter 5:8 (New International Version)

8)Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour

Exactly. Evil lurks in every corner of this world. Evil searches for willing vessels in order to sow sin and separate us from our God.

“There follows some quibbling over whether the Dark Lord possessed or merely “oppressed” him,”

What, they’re blaming this on Voldemoort?

JohnW on April 19, 2007 at 10:32 AM

I believe in the devil most assuredly. However, I believe that at some point you have to reach out and allow evil to be your guiding darkness. You can say no and not allow evil to be your master. Cho didn’t.

Evil, sick, or both? I say both.

Which caused what? I say Evil caused the sickness.

CliffHanger on April 18, 2007 at 11:11 PM

I’m with you, Cliff.

I don’t think Geraldo qualifies for duty on Fox news.

I don’t think he qualifies for air consumption.

Good Lord that was painful to watch. Those two “reporting” seriously they have absolutely nothing to “report.”

I remember why I don’t watch TV….
