Happy anniversary, Hot Air! Looking forward to Year Two.

RedWinged Blackbird on April 18, 2007 at 9:38 AM

Congratulations! Excellent work.

harrison on April 18, 2007 at 9:52 AM

That’s going to be tough, so many good vents to choose from.

Thanks for a great year, Bryan, Michelle, Ian and AP, you guys are the best!

SAM 1X on April 18, 2007 at 9:53 AM

Krazy Komment Klearinghouse!

First, congratulations. That’s a huge accomplishment. I’m so inspired I’m literally going to drop the 30 bucks for my own green backdrop. Someday.

Second, the first favorite Vent that comes to mind is without a doubt the talking Silky Pony episode (even if Bryan didn’t have the guts to shave off the vandyke for it). Can that be topped? Is it possible? Will George Lucas digitally erase the facial hair for the DVD release?

Third, I have a mad crush on MKH. I’m sorry, but I do. Fortunately for all, my marriage and day job really cut into my stalking time.

Fourth, can I be tasteless and indelicate? As my mother-in-law is fond of asking, “Does it do well?” Are you making money on this deal or what? Could you offload all your video to DhimmiTube and make them pay to host it?

Fifth, is Allah the best-hidden blogger in history? Do photos exist? Does Allah exist? Does he have a civilian identity like Clark Kent?

Sixth, where did you find that bizarre Matrix/Alien/Giger animated backdrop? Did it come on the Premiere installer CD as a bonus or what? (That’s not a complaint; I’m sincerely curious.)

Alas, time to pass the mic to…

saint kansas on April 18, 2007 at 9:54 AM

Hey…is there some reason why I don’t see the graphic at the top of the HotAir main page? It always appears blank…but my curson tells me something is there…

Help…

JetBoy on April 18, 2007 at 9:55 AM

Having been a daily reader/viewer since day one, HAPPY BIRYHDAY!! and thanks for the continuing great coverage you guys are doing.

Bryan, what the heck happened to Bethany anyway?? I miss that girl..

Viper1 on April 18, 2007 at 9:57 AM

Glad I jumped in early. Very informative site!!!

iNeXuS on April 18, 2007 at 10:02 AM

Bryan, what the heck happened to Bethany anyway??

That question came up back in March, and here’s the answer from realVerse:

The producers of realVerse made the decision to take the vlog on hiatus with the intention of relaunching in 2007 with a completely new format. Bethany remains a friend of the vlog but the producers are unsure if the new concept will require a show host. A new date has not been announced for the 2007 relaunch.

Unfortunately, she isn’t coming back. But that shouldn’t stop you from voting for her if she’s your favorite.

Bryan on April 18, 2007 at 10:04 AM

I’m not sure if I should admit this, but I consider Hot Air a news source! My family, especially the liberals, read the site religiously and love it….

I took my own poll and the majority agree that we need to see the almighty ALLAHPUNDIT. I can’t show the data yet because I’m still manipulating it, but I can tell you that it is looking that way.

Pam on April 18, 2007 at 10:05 AM

Hey, was that a quick shot of AP in the video?

Pam on April 18, 2007 at 10:11 AM

I’m not sure I found Hot Air on the first Drudge link, but I’m pretty sure that’s how I first found it. It seems like I must have found this pretty quickly though…I’m guessing in either July or August…I guess I need to look at the Vault and that will help me remember.

The most memorable Vents for me off the top of my head? One is Michelle getting dressed up for Halloween before the Mid-Term elections and using that theme. The other one is Michelle donning a blonde wig and reading quotes from Gwyneth Paltrow.

Of course, now I have to sift through the Vault and nominate these, and it will probably jog my memory to add a few more (depending on how many we’re allowed to vote for, that is).

This is truly one of my favorite sites and most visited sites. I often think, “why didn’t anyone else figure this out before Michelle?” Even now, I don’t know of anything remotely like this on the web, regardless of political bent.

Congratulations on your first year anniversary!! Everyone at HotAir deserves to take a bow. Unbelievable concept and effort!

asc85 on April 18, 2007 at 10:14 AM

I knew you guys were hitting on her (Bethany) and scared her away. ;) AP you naughty boy!!

@Pam, I consider it a news source as well, its hard to find someone in the media, any media who tells the truth and is not afraid of doing so. This is one of the few.

Viper1 on April 18, 2007 at 10:15 AM

I’ve been watching and listening since day one. Congratulations on a great first year. You have informed and educated, brought humor and sadness, and have introduced a thought-provoking, interactive concept. Conservatism is alive and well, and Hot Air is a terrific venue for reaching new people and highlighting what conservatism stands for.

liberty on April 18, 2007 at 10:15 AM

Hey, was that a quick shot of AP in the video?

No, it’s Peter Flaschner. He designed Hot Air.

Bryan on April 18, 2007 at 10:24 AM

Bryan,

I didn’t think so..just hoping…actually though, it is kinda a good gimmick for the site in a nutty way…kinda like the “where in the world is Matt Lauer?” but instead it is “what in the world does AP look like?”

Pam on April 18, 2007 at 10:30 AM

Conservatism is alive and well

…and mad sexy.

Hah!

saint kansas on April 18, 2007 at 10:49 AM

I’m certainly not Michelle.

I laughed out loud at that one.

unamused on April 18, 2007 at 10:52 AM

Bryan,

In that last outtake, it looked like you had a teleprompter controller in your hand. Were you running your own teleprompter? If I had to do that I think I would have 100 outtakes!

ITmonkey on April 18, 2007 at 10:53 AM

Yeah, I was running the prompter. It’s actually not that difficult, though it made the part when I point at The Vault a little tricky.

Bryan on April 18, 2007 at 10:57 AM

Happy anniversary. Let’s hope for many, many more. Proud to say I was here when it started. I would have to go through the Archives to pick my favorite vent though.

moc23 on April 18, 2007 at 11:04 AM

Happy 1st Birthday!!

pullingmyhairout on April 18, 2007 at 11:23 AM

I stumbled upon Hot Air last June when I was linked to it by Blackfive. Been a dedicated visitor ever since. Too many great posts to look thru to pick one. Since I’m working on my BS in Domestic Security Management in my off time from the Navy, the posts that I really pay attention to are Robert Spenser’s Jihad Watch and more recently the Stack Attack segments.
Keep up the GREAT work and may the second year be even better.

ic1redeye on April 18, 2007 at 11:48 AM

Awesome!

I took a look through the archive to see when I discovered HotAir. My first Vent was the May 5, 2006 tinfoil-hat show. I disagree that your production values were rough. While Michelle has clearly become more comfortable on-camera (ref: her bravura performance on The Factor), you both did a great job with production and presentation from the very start. You are generous in giving AllahP and Ian credit for the blog (and well-deserved), but I think most of us would never have lingered to read their stuff if the headliner video looked like a typical amateurish YouTube clip.

I will have to think a while to pick my favorite Vent. My favorite screen-cap is easy — it’s the May 16th 2006 picture of Michelle “conspiring” with Karl Rove. I hang that off the back of my laptop screen sometimes when I’m in meetings with a particularly enthusiastic Hillary Clinton supporter. It gets under his skin in ways he won’t publicly admit….

I’ve also archived a vintage IMAO banner graphic of “We support Michelle Malkin even though she is, in fact, a woman and a minority.” Priceless. Internet history from roughly that timeframe — May 2006.

Congratulations on your one-year anniversary!

Anton on April 18, 2007 at 11:54 AM

Been here from the first day!

I Got here from a link from Michell’s website, which I read daily!

so gonna E-mail that Michelle’s my Fav.
Gotta give props to the Boss!

WastelandMan on April 18, 2007 at 12:04 PM

Happy Birthday! This has become, along with LGF, my main news source–it loads fast, has lots of good info, commentary, and along with LGF, frequently is far out in front of the MSM.

Plus, how can you not love MM and the gang? I suppose if you are a bitter Liberal who as far as I know only love hating Bush.

Vanceone on April 18, 2007 at 12:47 PM

Congratulations and Happy Anniversary!

I too have been here since day one and although I travel some, I always catch up on all the Vent’s I’ve missed!

It would be hard to choose my favorite episode… I think the “Give Jihad a Chance” episode is leading the pack in my opinion…

Zorro on April 18, 2007 at 1:06 PM

Congrats! and many more. Now whatever happened to Bethany and realverse.com? I missed her departure somehow.

roninacreage on April 18, 2007 at 1:15 PM

I wrote HA about this anniversary some time ago, and got a thank you. Fortunately, they are going to do a “favorites” vote.

To those who clamor for a picture of AP, have you ever thought maybe he does not want to show a picture of himself? Personally, I wouldn’t want to show a picture of myself… Just a thought.

rightside on April 18, 2007 at 2:02 PM

I hate hate hate that I am one of the hosts that “came and went.” I wish I could have continued at the time, but it just wasn’t possible for personal reasons. Michelle and Bryan could not have been nicer about it.

I’m determined to get back to blogging and video blogging in the future though. When I do, HotAir will be the first to know! I just love you guys!

Happy Anniversay!

Rightwingsparkle on April 18, 2007 at 2:02 PM

Congrats!

ar_basin on April 18, 2007 at 2:03 PM

To those who clamor for a picture of AP, have you ever thought maybe he does not want to show a picture of himself?

Well, a few years back it had occurred to me that publishing a satirical blog under the name “Allah is in the House” took…how you say?…balls. Large, brass ones.

Just curious, you know. Does AP even get to go to awards dinners and such? In disguise, maybe?

saint kansas on April 18, 2007 at 2:24 PM

I hate hate hate that I am one of the hosts that “came and went.” I wish I could have continued at the time, but it just wasn’t possible for personal reasons.

Speaking of conservative hotness, where would one look in The Vault for the best of Ms. Sparkle?

saint kansas on April 18, 2007 at 2:28 PM

saint kansas,

Only one I’m afraid. Here.

Rightwingsparkle on April 18, 2007 at 2:41 PM

Ah, I just found it! Oddly, I’m posting from my work cubicle, which I took over from a guy with a big ol’ stack of Kinky Friedman campaign bumper stickers (next to his beloved Molly Ivins books). I’ve since sprayed and stuck up my Reagan Ranch calendar just to piss people off.

I’d be honored, Ms. Sparkle, if next time I come to Texas you’d let me take you out to the Liquor Barn for a drive-through daiquiri.

Texas rocks.

saint kansas on April 18, 2007 at 2:51 PM

Congratulations and Happy Birthday HA. Many, many thanks for all the informative Vents and blogs to (in no particular order) AP, Michelle, Bryan, and Ian. I’m not sure if I reached here the first day, but it must’ve been very near the first; I came here from a ref. on MM’s site either late April/early May.

Since then, I’ve come to rely on HotAir for news, comedy (even AP’s twisted brand) and insight. I literally check HA several times a day, and always voraciously read/view everything on here.

Favorite? You’ve GOTTA be kidding. How can I pick my favorite? From the CPAC-prep episode, to Cindy’s diet, to all the info from Stak and Robert, the *excellent* coverage from the front lines of Iraq… sheesh, how to pick? Yeah, I’ll vote, but I’ll probably change my mind after hitting the send button.

But thank you VERY much HA staff, for all of the wonderful work you do. It is VERY much appreciated.

dalewalt on April 18, 2007 at 3:04 PM

Shortest year I can ever remember.I havent left my computor in a year.Great job ya’ll and Happy Anniversary HotAir.
One of my favorites was Jihad Watch.Danged if I can remember which one it was.

spazzmomma on April 18, 2007 at 3:16 PM

Happy anniversary, everyone! Thanks so much for all the work you put in. You’ve done yourselves proud.
-Hope

tikvah on April 18, 2007 at 3:37 PM

I’m also a Day-One-Hot-Air-Fan. Fantastic year! Congratulations and may there be many more.

Maybe the HA Staff could add categories to the “Best of” vote like “Best Comedy” (Cindy-Sheehan-Jamba-Juice Fast), “Best Mini Series” (Jihad Watch), “Best Musical” (Give Jihad a Chance), “Best Peformance by a Group” (The Vent), etc?

This would lessen the pain of trying to pick just one “Best”.

Keep’em comin’

Fogpig on April 18, 2007 at 3:45 PM

Since AP is so fast in getting the news online, when are you guys going to get a siren?

Seriously, excellent job everyone.

Tru2my2 on April 18, 2007 at 4:49 PM

Wow…a year already. I have been tagging along since day 1 I think…or dang close to it. I do remember getting the linke to here from LeShawn Barbers Corner. Kinda suppriseing since I was a regular to Michelle’s site at the time, and knew nothing of it from there. Think I was one of the early few to be able to comment. I remember calling my bro, another MM fan, and telling him about Hot Air. A remarkable success story to be sure. I love all of ya, and watch you daily bring the best in internet news to me. You ARE the best, hands down.
And Michelle, to you, I say you deserve your own show on Fox news. The way you manhandled those racist pigs on the O’facter, well, that was awe inspireing. Bryan, your production skills are really showing that you are more than just a blogger. Allah, you provide some of the more thought provokeing and often entertaining topics here, even if I do not always agree with ya. MKH, well, I never would have heard of that wonderful woman if not for Hotair. And the lovely Bethany…..who I REALLY miss…what ever happened to that dear girl? Anyway, happy Birthday. And as to picking my favorate….omg….don’t you realize I have to choose from 365 great vents for that?

MalkinFan on April 18, 2007 at 6:06 PM

You guys seriously should sell DVD Collections of these.

MirCat on April 18, 2007 at 7:38 PM

Hard to believe it has been a year. Can’t wait to see the new Vent each morning.

Thanks!

nafku on April 18, 2007 at 8:10 PM

For the last year I was laid off. My days have been filled with a Hot Air addiction. Without this site depression could have gotten the best of me, but I found solace and comfort knowing all is not lost and there is some sanity left in the world. The HA crew and commentators never fail to bring both tears of joy and sadness, without a doubt always the best read on the web. I now am going through Hot Air withdrawals, for I found a great job with little time to spend here. It is hard for me to express the gratitude for the important work done at Michelle’s site and here at Hot Air. Happy Birthday and many more!!

infidel on April 18, 2007 at 8:29 PM

I was here on opening day also. Thx HA!
Voting could be tough, but I’ll look and try to pick.
lets see …maybe an average of 8 “articles” per day x 365 days ( fewer to start and seems like 15 a day lately)…thats a lot of vents, vids, tv, etc.
Really tho, how many different posts have you published? Do you know? 3000?
And congrats on 125,000 visits daily to HA, and nearly ONE MILLION (877,000) visits this WEEK alone.
WOW. Thats amazing.

SHOOTER, commenter number 75

shooter on April 18, 2007 at 9:05 PM

I just checked the site meter; the visit count should be close to 30,000,000 by the 24th. Wow. Not bad for your first year. Not bad at all!

Happy Anniversary HotAir, from one of your original commentors! I was lucky enough to get in the door the first time it opened, I learned about the Grand Opening from Lucianne.com.

Keep up the great work. Here’s to many more years of success.

Any chance we could get Ayaan to do a show?

Much love to Michelle and Crew and all the other commentors who’ve been here since Day One and all those who’ve joined up since.

And Byran, thanks for the bloopers!

Tony737 on April 18, 2007 at 9:29 PM

Tony, you are original in more ways than one :)

Thank you for being HA.

Thank you all who work for/with HA - a courageous, dedicated, intelligent, professional and diverse group.

Thank you all commenters who put up with mine, and all others’ rants and ideas, especially for how much I’ve learned from all of you.

Above all thank you to all for an interesting, honest, informative and thought-provoking forum. It’s addictive in a good way.

Without perusing the Vault, the trampoline day made me laugh tears.

News. Politics. Pop Culture. Religion. War. Courage. Honesty. Humor. Discovery. Accountability. Diversity of Ideas/Topics. The Big. Sometimes the Small. It’s all here. Too much fun, too few hours…

Thank you for the privilege.

WTG Hot Air.
Thanks

Although I don’t comment much, I am a big fan of Hot Air and feel it’s one of best blogs on the Internet. I reguarly email or IM friends links from your site. Michelle, Bryan, Allahpundit and Ian, you all do outstanding work! Congrats on the 1-year anniversary and keep up the good fight. (And you need a tip jar).

UncleBubba on April 18, 2007 at 11:32 PM

I was looking at Michelle’s site and saw registration was open here after Rush had apparently talked about HA on his show. I can’t remember when it was exactly. I consider it a privilege to swim in the same fish-tank as our hosts, our commentors who I’ve learned so much from, and to experience this highly efficient form of mass communication. When the sh!t hits the fan this is a great place to sort things out. It’s weeks like this that make me think I’ll never gripe about a slow news day again. Keep up the excellent work here, and thanks, everybody.

Buck Turgidson on April 18, 2007 at 11:37 PM

You all do a fantastic job Bryan. I’m here daily and I think you guys do a fantastic job on the stories you choose and the updates along with your insightful commentary. Michele is a cutie and I also like Bethany and MKH. Any chance we could get KP to do a ‘cameo’ stint? She is a good one!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY AND MANY MORE. THANKS!

Guess I’m a HA Head. It’s seems longer than a year. Probably because I check HA at work about 20-30 times a day. Then go home and check HA before bed. Bryan is a video wizard and Michelle is the real deal and the package deal. Allah is Allah and Nobody really compares.
