Video: Olbermann blames Bush for Virginia Tech massacre

And so the blame game begins. Keith Olbermann tried to blame President Bush and the Republican Congress for yesterday’s massacre because they “allowed” a ban on 9mm clips like the one used to murder 32 people to expire. Transcript:
At least one of the weapons used by the shooter is believed, as we said, to be in nine millimeter semi-automatic pistol, which would be like this one, with a clip designed to hold more than 10 shots. Clips like those were banned under the Assault Weapons Law of 1994, but Congress and President Bush allowed that law to expire more than two years ago.
How about blaming the guy who did all the killing?
(hat tip: Olbermann Watch)
Update: Bob Owens at Confederate Yankee says the ban did not cover high-capacity magazines:
High-capacity magazines have been around for more than half a century, and the sale of high-capacity magazines was not impacted whatsoever by the 1994 Crime Bill. These magazines were freely and commercially available, both in retail stores and online, without interruption, for the 10-year life of the ban, the decades preceding it, and afterward.

But, he was.

Then he would have reloaded after ten shots Olbermann.
What’s your point?

Limiting number of rounds in a clip is ridiculous. Sooner or later you have to change clips unless you are Barney Fife.

I wonder what it feels like to go day to day with such hate, that you have to link everything bad in the world on President Bush?
Now compare President Bush’s speech today, to the diarrhea that just came out of this idiot’s mouth.
Who, would you say, contributes more to troubled minds in this world to perform such horrific acts?

I can’t believe it.
I mean the fact that it took this long for Olberdouche to blame Bush – I figured he would have done it yesterday.

Patriot33 on April 17, 2007 at 5:45 PM
The gunman had 2 hours to reload, and 2 guns. I’m pretty sure the size of the magazine had little to do with anything here, Olberdouche.

I knew it wouldn’t take long for the “blame bush” mantra to begin. I surprised it took as long as it did.
vcferlita on April 17, 2007 at 5:54 PM
How absurd. Even with the assault weapons ban in place all Cho would have needed would be one or 2 more magazines to make up the difference.
Secondly, Bush would have renewed the AWB had congress passed it.
Bodacious2182 on April 17, 2007 at 5:55 PM
Um … as far as I know, he’s not just being his usual douchebag self – what he’s claiming is a factual lie.
I could be wrong – check the research – but my (admittedly feeble) memory tells me that the 1994 ban did NOT prohibit those clips.
You might want to check the details. I think he may be flat out wrong. If not, sorry.
Professor Blather on April 17, 2007 at 5:55 PM
I told MRS. OBX Pete this morning that they would blame this tragic incident on either President Bush or global warming. It was said in semi-jest but lo and behold Olbermann did it. Now lets guess who will blame it on global warming. Al Whore? Rosie? Who knows?
OBX Pete on April 17, 2007 at 5:56 PM
So who does that liberal POS blame for gang on gang crime when illegal weapons are used?

Ever notice how these incidents bring out the gun-control advocates in full force, but they mysteriously fade away the closer we get to an actual election?

And coming this fall–Olbermann gets to take his act to NBC’s Sunday Night Football, so that NBC can say,
“nyah!” to Rush Limbaugh.
Ed Driscoll on April 17, 2007 at 6:14 PM
The assault weapons ban, IIRC, banned the manufacture of 10+ round magazines, but not the sale of 10+ round magazines that were manufactured before the ban. So you could still legally buy and own larger capacity magazines.
Also, someone should tell Olby it’s a “magazine” and not a “clip”.
dorkafork on April 17, 2007 at 6:14 PM
Blame Bush. Blame the expired gun ban. Blame our ‘violent culture’. I even saw a post today that suggested he may be a victim… yes a victim of hate crime, (his Korean heritage), and this is what caused him to snap.
dalewalt on April 17, 2007 at 6:16 PM
The ban did not prohibit possession of the magazines (they aren’t clips), merely the manufacture of new ones for retail sale. You could still freely buy and possess high-capacity magazines manufactured prior to the ban, and they weren’t hard to find. The only difference between then and now was the price; during the ban, I shelled out $120 for a 15-shot mag for my Glock 9mm. Today I can grab the same item for about $20.

Ten bucks says it’s Matt Lauer
Texyank on April 17, 2007 at 6:24 PM
Blacklake touched on it, but it’s worth emphasizing that “clip” and “magazine” are not interchangeable terms – they’re very different things.
One guess as to whether Olbermann used the right word.

Of Course just like Jim Webb Democrats believe lawas are only for the “Little people” to follow not their almight selves

Corzine’s SUV Over 90 mph Before Accident
April 17, 2007
ABC News’ Paul Fidalgo Reports: The 2005 Chevrolet Suburban carrying Gov. Jon Corzine, D-N.J., was traveling at about 91 mph before it crashed into a guardrail on the Garden State Parkway in Galloway Township, N.J., this past Thursday.
According to a report from New Jersey State Police, the vehicle carrying Corzine made contact with the rear of a pickup truck, which itself was moving to avoid striking a mile marker on the right shoulder of the road.
The report also stated that Corzine was not wearing a safety belt, and asserts, “New Jersey traffic laws require the wearing of seatbelts for all occupants of front seats. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that all front seat occupants under the age of 18 are properly restrained by either seatbelts or child safety seats.”
Corzine’s vehicle had dropped in speed to about 30 mph just before impact with the guardrail. All occupants in the governor’s vehicle were injured, but “Governor Corzine sustained the most serious injuries, being thrown within the vehicle during the impact.”
Corzine suffered multiple fractures in the accident, and in stable condition while recovering in Cooper Hospital in Camden, N.J. after a third surgical procedure on Monday. Until he can return to work, New Jersey Senate President Richard Codey is serving as acting governor.

I haven’t read all the comments … but I still haven’t heard or read the proper diagnosis from anyone in the media. The explanation for this crime is quite simple … the unfortunate kid suffered from schizophrenia.
Anyone who is familiar with this tragic disease can spot the symptoms and the pathology immediately. He was a 23YO young man with a creative inclination. He had previously set fires and “behaved strangely” … all clear indicators of the onset of schizophrenia.
Unfortunately … no one took the time or cared enough to make the proper diagnosis. If he had been treated for the disease … with the latest psychotropic medicines … this would not have happened.
Why was he not treated? He was away from home … so his immediate family members could not observe him. His teachers and administrators and fellow students probably didn’t want to be “judgmental” … God forbid anyone should use their judgment these days … so he went untreated and the symptoms worsened.
Schizophrenia is a terrible disease … which strikes mostly young men like the killer … but it can be diagnosed and controlled. Unfortunately for everyone … in this case it was not.

Here in Philadelphia, most of us use Philly.com for local news as it’s run by the Inquirer and Daily News. Philly.com links a few sponsored blogs from its homepage, one of which is run by one of the most rabidly liberal, BDS-deranged people I read on the internet, Will Bunch. Who really wouldn’t be anyone important were his blog not linked directly from the Philly.com homepage.
I think his second post on the VT story was a plea to Bush to have the decency to stay away from the event today and not use it as a cheap publicity stunt to boost his sagging approval rating, along with a DKos link in which a VT alum said the same thing. I’ve never posted anything on that guy’s blog, but I did today. It takes a lot to offend me, but that did the trick.

Bryan Williams on Nightly News is almost as bad, asking the President “What are we gonna do about these guns?” or something similar.
Not surprised, though.

Ok, wait a minute,wait a minute….
How are Olberman and other media jackasses able to get away with bold-face lying about the gun ban legislation? If the high-capacity clips were not covered under the ban, certainly someone in the media knows this.
Michelle? O’Reilly? Hannity? Levin? Someone please correct this nonsense and flag it as the liberal-biased crap that it is!! Now is NOT the time for their selfish games.

Olbermann needs to look in the mirror before he makes comments like that – trying to increase your audience size from 10 to 15 Olby??
Rick on April 17, 2007 at 7:12 PM
I’ve never understood this whole fixation on the number of rounds a magazine can hold. As someone pointed out above, the difference between a 10-round and a 15-round magazine is the frequency with which they are changed.
On an average semi-auto, an empty magazine can be dropped and replaced with a loaded one in a few seconds. I don’t think the inconvenience of having to do this a few more times with the smaller capacity magazines is going to stop a determined psychopath.
My memory is hazy. Did Olberphallus blame the Wright brothers for their role in 9/11?
SailorDave on April 17, 2007 at 7:19 PM
What isn’t Bush to blame for in the wacky world of the Left?
Those large magazines never went off the market. The police were allowed to sell theirs on the second-hand market which led them to do so to get brand new equipment every year for nothing.
Tantor on April 17, 2007 at 7:31 PM
