Video: Kurdish president a little iffy on this whole “second Holocaust” idea

posted at 9:30 am on April 17, 2007 by Allahpundit

He breaks the bad news about 80% of the way through the clip — and is promptly informed by the interviewer that his radical position will draw “much criticism” in the Muslim world.

And so it will. Click the image to watch.

That sure is some thrilling headgear he’s got on there.

Allah, I can’t play video’s on my computer (it’s a piece of crap) and I’m wondering if you could provide a link to a transcript of videos when possible. I know it’s more work for you guys, but I’m sure anyone in a similar situation to mine would appreciate it.

Though honestly, there probably aren’t a lot of people out there with computers as dysfunctional as mine, so maybe it wouldn’t make enough of a difference to be worth the effort. Either way.

There are a lot of folks who wouldn’t take that as a rhetorical question.

Why annihilate a people?

Finally, a talking head who dares ask the tough questions!

It’s almost as if the interviewer was trying to give him a chance to back out of that position.

Nice hat, bub.

bloggless on April 17, 2007 at 10:25 AM

Wow. A Muslim leader coming out squarely against the terrorists’ plans to annihilate the Israelis. OK, off with his head.

does he look like william shatner to anyone else?

lorien1973 on April 17, 2007 at 10:41 AM

You know, the Kurds would have empathy for Israelis. After all, Saddam and the Turks want to annihalate them, so they are in a rather unique position–birds of a feather and all.

Vanceone on April 17, 2007 at 10:45 AM

WHAT? He DOESN’T wanna kill Jews??? BLASPHEMY! What kind of infidel IS this guy? Doesn’t he read the koran?

“Even the trees and rocks will say O muslim, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him”.

I got two words for this guy: Anwar. Sadat.

Lord, please protect this brave man.

Yep.

“[T]his policy is wrong, illogical, and unreasonable.”

Why doesn’t Madam Speaker invite this guy to address the House of Representatives?

I LOLed.

I also love the Kurds. Lord help them to rise above the mire which is the Middle East.

spmat on April 17, 2007 at 11:06 AM

Let’s see – prominent regional leader – doesn’t want to see Israel annihilated – what’s the phrase? – “dead man walking”?

eeyore on April 17, 2007 at 11:18 AM

What a radical to suggest that the Arabs should get over killing Jews!

Defector01 on April 17, 2007 at 11:26 AM

The man was stolid throughout. Here is a man we (America)can work with. I’m impressed. My view of MEers has grown rather cynical.

Well, Saddam doesn’t want to annihilate them anymore…well, maybe, but its not like he’s got the means.

Wonder how his relationship with Satan is going…

Ah, c’mon guy!

I used to not be in the same boat….then I got a new PC at work. Due to my boss not wanting to get Windows XP (yes, I said XP, not Vista) he special ordered the pc with Windows 2000 which isn’t compatible with the sound card (or that’s what I’m being told). It’s hard to press for a sound card when my only reason for needing one is “I like watching my HotAir videos!”. :)

So, if it’s possible to have a transcript, that would be awesome. If not, I suppose I can do my own homework and go find the transcripts myself.

I thought it was interesting the comments regarding our 08 elections and what the fallout would be if the Republicans lose the elections to the Democrats. Regarding the democrat position to pull out of Iraq.

What’s interesting to me is how much tied to other world governments, especially the Kurd’s, the US is. It totally amazes me how much these people realize the consequences of their future if the democrats win in 08.

If I were a Kurd, I would be somewhat pessimistic. As an American, I fear for their safety and our future should the democrat’s win.

Kini on April 17, 2007 at 1:13 PM

Right on Kini.

If we leave Iraq before the Iraqis are able to defend themselves, the jihadis will be able to focus their energies on their main target: US!

Better to have Soldiers and Marines fight the bastards over there than to have Cops and Firemen fight the bastards HERE.

I wasn’t able to watch the memri videos, either, until I installed mplayer. It works much better under linux, but I also tried it with win98 (mplayer classic). My PC isn’t crappy, though, just old, and there’s plenty of FOSS that works with it just fine.

VerbumSap on April 17, 2007 at 2:11 PM

In all fairness, that was actually a pretty interesting interview.

In light of the fact that this was on Al Aribiyah, the guy did a pretty good job of asserting the Israeli right to exist…there was not a lot of difference between his words and those of Ohlmert.

Also, he was very clear that he is not a separatist…he was defending the integrity of the Iraqi state, and obviously wants a federal solution.

I think the interviewer showed some biases, but in doing so asked some tough questions which were not, in the context, unfair. But he gave the man (what’s his name???) a chance to answer.

In all, I think the guy came across as a reasonable leader (remember…he is speaking to an Arab audience, not a Western one…these remarks aren’t tailored for us a la Arafat), organized in his thinking and gutsy.

Well worth listening to (i.e.reading).

Blaise on April 17, 2007 at 3:00 PM

He seems reasonable.

No, really. Let’s do it.
