I’ll be on the Kevin McCullough Show on WMCA at 2:20 this afternoon to discuss the Virginia Tech rampage, and how Cho might have obtained his firearms. Tune in here.

Update: The show has been mp3′d and here’s the hour I was on. My segment is about 20 minutes in.

Don’t forget to blame the liberals.

Don’t forget to blame the liberals.

That’s not the plan. But you guys certainly haven’t forgotten to blame inanimate objects.

Bryan on April 17, 2007 at 2:10 PM

Screw it, Bryan. Blame the liberals. They’re already blaming conservatives.

There are stupid people on both sides and to pretend like your side is immune is ignorant. Before the situation was even over conservative groups were blaming liberals.

Bryan,

Due to the brevity of your post, I know it would be wrong to try and guess more of what your intent is in being involved in such a discussion. So big grain of salt to my comments…

Just be careful that you aren’t sucked into a gun-control debate. ‘How he obtained the firearms’ sounds like a topic that could easily descend into how to better prevent people from obtaining firearms in the future. The far better discussion to have would be whether to allow the 2nd amendment its full meaning, and let any potential gunman be uncertain if he’s going up against sheep or tigers.

I in no way mean that comment to demean or criticize the victims. They were raised in a society that placed them in that situation with no way to protect or defend themselves. One armed student, staff or faculty member could have stopped him before so many were slaughtered. In fact, in the only act of heroism in this incident that I have read about so far, Professor Liviu Librescu, a Holocaust survivor, saved his class by sacrificing himself.

Before the situation was even over conservative groups were blaming liberals.

And the gun controllers were out in force too. Hopefully you’ll note and acknowledge that none of the authors of this site engaged in any of that, so your snide suggestion amounts to a pre-emptive attack on whatever I say before I’ve even said it. How tolerant.

Bryan on April 17, 2007 at 2:16 PM

Should we consider this an open thread?

Re:

Yes, but don’t consider MSNBC advertising a “special” on gun control circa 3pm yesterday ….

At some point, lefties will point out some “choice cuts” from the comments section about the perceived desire for Cho to be an Islamic Jihadist.

As much as we point out that liberals seem happy about US soldier casualties, that’s going to be some low laying fruit. Not that the severity is even remotely similar, but 5,4,3,2,1 until “fear-monger” will being tossed around.

If you read my first sentence you would see that I acknowledged that there are “stupid people on both sides.”

Oh no, I will have nothing bad to say about what you say on the radio if you don’t use this horrific incident for political gain so soon after it happened. But if you do indeed blame the liberals I will, quite frankly, question your morality. Liberals or conservatives aren’t to blame for what one person decided to do.

Bryan,

It is VA law that you can only buy 1 handgun a month.

Thanks F15. Maybe you should have been the guest.

Bryan on April 17, 2007 at 2:42 PM

Hey Bryan,
I hope you’ll publish or link to the audio file somewhere, for those of us who couldn’t listen in.

Thanks in advance.

shooter on April 17, 2007 at 2:45 PM

Nah you did fine…

I just happened to have my copy of The Virginia Gun Owners Guide handy.

F15Mech on April 17, 2007 at 2:46 PM

According to European Press its all Charlton Heston’s Fault!

CrazyFool on April 17, 2007 at 2:47 PM

sure blame the guy with alzheimers

lorien1973 on April 17, 2007 at 3:25 PM

With a view to Monday’s deadly shooting rampage at Virginia Tech, European newspapers are blaming the lack of gun control measures in the United States and implying that Charlton Heston is indirectly responsible for the scope of the killings.

The Glock is from Austria, and the Walther from Germany. Plus, the rounds are also from Germany.

Guns don’t kill people. Gun manufacturers kill people.

Niko on April 17, 2007 at 3:41 PM

Nonfactor,

I blame liberals. Not for the shooter’s actions, that would be ludicrous. For the sheeple mentality indocrination that caused young adult humans to line up in terror and submit to being executed without a fight. For the unconstitutional laws that allowed the shooter to trust that he would face no armed opposition before completing his rampage.

Again, I place NO blame on the victims, they simply didn’t know how else to respond.

Bryan, any chance of an archived audio link? Can’t listen to streaming at work.

No, Niko – people kill people, sometimes with guns.

Guns don’t kill people. Gun manufacturers kill people.

Niko on April 17, 2007 at 3:41 PM

If that is the case, then why do they put triggers on guns?

WHO PULLED THE TRIGGER, THE GUN MANUFACTURER?

hillbillyjim on April 17, 2007 at 4:28 PM

That was written in jest. Claiming that not the gun operator but some other entity were responsible for the Virginia Tech rampage is what the Euro press did, I was just trying to point out the absurdity of the claim.

Niko on April 17, 2007 at 4:34 PM

Niko on April 17, 2007 at 4:34 PM

Niko, I missed the sarcasm. Sorry ’bout that.

Absurdity indeed.

hillbillyjim on April 17, 2007 at 4:48 PM

Niko, you’re redeemed. Thought you were toying with hoplophobia.
