BBC: Iran’s Supreme Court acquits serial killers whose victims were “un-Islamic”

posted at 1:22 pm on April 15, 2007 by Allahpundit

This one’s so egregious, I suspect it might not be true. I can’t find any other stories about it on the wires and the only source appears to be the victims’ lawyers.

The Beeb felt confident enough to run it, though, so here you go:

The serial killings took place in 2002 in the south-eastern city of Kerman…

Up to 18 people were killed in just one year, but only five of the murders were tried in court.

According to their confessions, the killers put some of their victims in pits and stoned them to death. Others were suffocated. One man was even buried alive while others had their bodies dumped in the desert to be eaten by wild animals.

The accused, who were all members of an Islamic paramilitary force, told the court their understanding of the teachings of one Islamic cleric allowed them to kill immoral people if they had ignored two warnings to stop their bad behaviour.

But there was no judicial process to determine the guilt of the victims in these cases…

Now the Supreme Court is reported to have acquitted all the killers of the charge of murder on the grounds that their victims were all morally corrupt.

Iran announced today it’s accepting bids for construction of two new nuclear power plantsDh at Bushehr. According to an Iranian nuclear official, European firms have expressed “serious interest.”

Update: Bill Amos notes in the comments that the defendants were acquitted of murder but may face prison on a lesser charge. Fair enough; I’ve changed the headline from “frees” to “acquits.”

Well the article says not that they were freed but rather they werent guilty of “Murder” and they are expected to pay restitution to the victims families.

In other words guilty of a lesser crime.

I might be calling BS on this. Why the hell would anyone be interested in building Iran’s reactors? Didn’t the Russians just leave with equipment and techs a few weeks ago because the Iranians haven’t been paying up? Not to mention the out of control inflation and failing economy, do they even have the money for this?

I’m leaning towards this article being true. It’s the BBC after all and they’re not likely to run something critical of Iran and Muslim society if it weren’t true. Actually, they’re just plain not likely to run something critical like this period. Must have slipped through somehow.

Well I maybe wrong as well they maybe free because it only talks about them paying restitution so they maybe out of jail.

Again is all second hand info right now.

….And another thing, why would firms outside of Russia risk pissing us off and risking US business contracts to deal with a regime that’s been sloppy about payments? Doesn’t make sense…

What are they going to be charged with if not MURDER???

Illegal butchering like that 70 year old farmer in Louisiana???

Or… hunting without a license????

Enquiring minds want to know…

Yes BS. Part of their smoke and mirrors campaign to draw attention away from their weapons program.

This is probably only the tip of the iceberg. Islamic doctrine directs the “true believer” to engage in many acts that our Western sensibilities find unacceptable and repugnant. We are probably only hearing whisper of these actions that are probably widespread wherever total Islamic control is exerted.

This is where liberal “multiculturalism” will lead us, to accept and tolerate people with these caliber of beliefs that are contrary to our liberty, laws, and committment to our nation and it’s traditions.

And some day, soon, no one will be “convicted” of murdering Christians either…

One of the accused has already been admitted to Yale.

This is really too horrifying to even know what to say.

How do you comment on such evil?

Now we all know that the West is “guilty” of moral corruption too. That means we’re fair game for a nuke. Nobody here will be surprised when we get hit but the Dhemocrats will be “shocked and surprised” no doubt.

Tick, tick, tick…
