I'm proud of you, and very indebted to you, and I'm disgusted at some of us. We don't even deserve to tie your shoes. You are the superior ones, and many of us take you and what you do for granted.

Hopefully it will never be too late...

Well, I feel really bad now for all the missed opportunities I’ve had to thank men and women in uniform. Please know, Sven and others, that a smile and a nod is a shy person’s way of saying “Thanks” as well. :-)

aero,

Please know that we were in no way chastising you for your shyness, God love ya. Just encouraging you to not be afraid of openly showing our Troops and Veterans how you really feel.

It'll make your day. I promise.

And I screwed up my comment above. It should've read:

Don’t hesitate to look straight in their eyes, grab their hand, and tell them you thank them for their service and you greatly appreciate it. I do it every opportunity I get.

PIMF

I was in downtown Dallas the other day and greeted and thanked a razor sharp-looking uniformed soldier walking across the street. At first I could see that he went into threat assessment mode (happens a lot, as I'm a big ugly son of a gun), but when he figured out I was sincere he instantly relaxed and heartily thanked me.

They know that a great many in this country don't support them, and I know they're on guard for verbal attacks by the hard-core lefties.

I also thank Police and Fire Fighters every chance I get. Those who protect and defend us deserve our support.

You who volunteer for the armed services are the real heroes. Thank you.

Thank you Ian. Every American needs to feel like Lizzie Palmer, and for those who don't, you aren't American.

It's hard to watch the last two minutes. Having to see one brother in arms put in the dirt is too many, and I've seen much more than one. God bless all who serve, and let them never feel alone.

Every once in awhile I pass by people in uniform in the grocery store and elsewhere, or people with veterans’ hats, bumper stickers, etc. I always want to stop them and thank them for serving. But I’m always too shy to actually do it. I meet their eyes, smile, and nod, but I’ve never actually said aloud that I am proud of them and I’m glad they serve. I think I’m ready to do it if it really helps them to know that a complete stranger supports what they do.

aero,

Don't hesitate to look straight in their eyes, grab their hand, and tell them you appreciate their service and you greatly appreciate it. I do it every opportunity I get.

Every single one thanks me back and smiles and walks a little taller. They need to hear it from average people on the street or wherever they happen to be. Don't miss a chance to support them directly with a kind and enthusiastic word of thanks.

They are spectacular and they deserve our gratitude, love, and respect.

One of my close friends has done two tours as a Marine in Iraq. He's been home for awhile, his wife gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, and he's getting called up for a third tour. It's gut wrenching to think he may be going over for a third time.

But you know what? He's got a big smile on his face, keeps working at his job, and never says a word about it to me.

God Bless these brave men and women.

aero, I try to never miss a chance to thank them for their service. I almost always get a "Thank you for your support" in return, and always at least a "Thank you, sir," as if I was deserving of thanks from them.

I'm always grateful for other people who show appreciation for our military, because it might be one of my sons that they are showing support for. So, thank you to those of you who support my sons!

Every once in awhile I pass by people in uniform in the grocery store and elsewhere, or people with veterans' hats, bumper stickers, etc. I always want to stop them and thank them for serving. But I'm always too shy to actually do it. I meet their eyes, smile, and nod, but I've never actually said aloud that I am proud of them and I'm glad they serve. I think I'm ready to do it if it really helps them to know that a complete stranger supports what they do.

That makes me feel even prouder of my two oldest sons, a Soldier and a Marine.

And it makes it even harder not to hate Pelosi and the other Democrats, etc., who continue to vote to make the targets on my sons backs even larger.
