Attila,
Nice point. When are we going to see these same guys rummaging through a Koran dump and dredging up a skeleton of Mohammed. Now that would be must-see-TV.

"a nearby Jewish seminary had used it as a dump to bury unused scriptures"

Uh, we wouldn't call it a "dump," which suggests disrespect, and they were almost certainly used, not unused. We would call it a genizah, which is "is a depository for sacred Hebrew books that are no longer usable. Since they cannot be thrown out because they contain God's name, these documents, often called shemot or 'names,' are put in a genizah. Genizot are usually found in the attic or basement of a synagogue, but can also be in walls or buried underground."

Welcome back, Bryan. Thanks for the link to MKH's column:

MKH: “Madame Secretary, are you familiar with ‘Battlestar Galactica’?’

    Spellings: “A little.”

MKH: “Well, in ‘Battlestar Galactica, the whole government and much of the nation is wiped out in an attack, which means the Secretary of Education must take charge and save humanity from murderous, intelligent, alien robots.”

    Spellings: “Yes?”

MKH: “I’m just sayin’, if it came down to it, would you be ready for something like that?”

Spellings: “I am ready and willing to do battle with anyone who would limit opportunities for the schoolchildren of America,” she laughed.

Fierce.

Heh.

How thoughtful (stated drolly). However, Bryan's point was well-made. Olby counts on that segment to be a highlight in his show. Without the context of his (apparent) numerous interviews, how does the average viewer know he's just kidding? One more thing, you are noted in this very blog for not allowing people to simply have an "opinion" without irrefutable facts to back it up. Your airy claim that Olby "has an opinion and has the right to speak it" is nothing less than hypocritical to your prior treatment of others on this blog.

The Secretary of Education (already, we have a problem) seems far too comfortable with Big Government, don't you think? I guess it's not compassionately conservative these days to question the constitutionality of government-run education in the first place. If we're going to reference the Founding Fathers, as Michelle so brilliantly did with the race clowns, can we please mention that they'd be absolutely appalled at the notion of a "Secretary of Education", and are surely rolling in their graves at the way 21st century Americans have so mangled their beloved Constitution so as to give government nanny-state powers ("Secretary of Education") the Constitution was specifically written to keep the government from ever attaining! Learning, information and education are private matters - oh well, I guess my own personal education has taken me far out of the mainstream consensus on this...

And the grounds he has to criticize what people say comes with the fact that he has an opinion and has the right to speak it.

No one's arguing about his right to say anything. Liberals always use that as their first defense--it's irrelevant to my question. It's his credibility that ought to be questioned. Who is he to say anything about anyone, after the way he treats everyone he dislikes? He traffics in hate and smears. He's a bottom feeder (ratings and otherwise). He makes Imus look civil.

Then why call someone that, night after night, and make it a routine part of your awful, bottom-feeding show? And on what grounds can Olbermann now criticize anything anyone else says about anyone else?

A follow up per request of thedecider!

Olbermann has said time after time in interviews that the Worst Person in the World title was started to be a funny bit on the show that he turned into a daily thing (I think he even said that it isn't supposed to be taken literally, obviously).

And the grounds he has to criticize what people say comes with the fact that he has an opinion and has the right to speak it. Same grounds as I have, same grounds as you have.

What else did I miss? Mary Katharine Ham asking the Secretary of Education about Battlestar Galactica.

I completely missed her post on that. Just read it. I have to tell you, MKH is one of my favorite reads. I love her out-of-the-box thinking. Imagine asking the real Secretary of Ed to put herself into a fictional situation like that. Really clever.

If you take it literally, Worst Person in the World is worse than bin Laden, worse than Mugabe, worse than Mahmoud the Pirate, worse than Kim Jong-Il.

Except it isn't meant to be taken literally.

Oh, I just read my post. It makes it sound like I don't want her hosting the Big Story or O'Reilly.

I think she's great at it and I want to see more. She brought a polished elegance to the Factor I hadn't seen from other guest hosts before.

Bryan, you have Michelle's ear.

Tell her she did a real outstanding job on O'R Factor. (she may be tired of hearing this) Also, if anchoring Fox News jobs are in her future (why can't we HA readers shake this?) please pursue the "Specials" department so this blog can stay strong. Ian's old blog was got me through Iraq, and the entire HA team keeps this Sergeant motivated.

You are all the best.

I can see it now: "Fox News Specials Presents: The HOT AIR VENT" You could animate the graphic at the top of this page so the guy is yelling in the camera between segments before the segment title is shown.

Okay, I'm done. Welcome back.

Yeah, a short one. With Allah and Ian posting up a storm, I can’t blame anyone for not noticing.
