Good news: Whole damned Middle East set to go nuclear

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Yemen, and the UAE. Almost the entire Sunni Arab world, all of them now interested in nuclear “power,” all of them likely to get their fix from the same Russian and Pakistani dealers that Iran’s buying from, all to deter the erratic hardline Revolutionary Guard nuclear power complex in ascendance in Tehran under Ahmadinejad, all because the UN can’t or won’t do anything to stop the mullahs beyond wrist-slap sanctions dictated by China and that Russian dealer. Money:

“We will develop [our nuclear energy program] openly,” Prince Saud al-Faisal, the Saudi foreign minister, said of the council’s effort. “We want no bombs. All we want is a whole Middle East that is free from weapons of mass destruction,” an Arab reference to both Israel’s and Iran’s nuclear programs.

Deterrence through peaceful nuclear “energy.” Try parsing that logic.

Follow the link to see how long Iran’s been working on their nuclear program and the Iranian military’s unexplained involvement in it. It’s not news but it always bears reminding. The left will, as they must, try to blame the proliferation on Bush’s invasion of Iraq, but the timeline simply doesn’t bear them out.

We never should have let Pakistan get nukes.

I can’t wait to hear what General Pelosi and General Murtha have to say on this topic….

A sad result of a failed government…
Did you expect anything else when Pelosi showed up in Syria looking like a little Italian woman getting ready to pick grapes?

Babs on April 14, 2007 at 8:25 PM

Time is against us, and it grows more dangerous weekly.

We’ve allowed the left to undermine our will and our foreign policy with their PC claptrap, so now it’s left to Israel to strike Iran to save themselves… and the western world in the process.

Hopefully, once Israel pulls the trigger, Bush will be quick to lend 100% support.

My, that is good news. Thanks for making our day.

kahall on April 14, 2007 at 8:31 PM

Oh, someone’s gonna die, but it ain’t gonna be us. Hey Mahmoud, hear that? That’s your life’s countdown speeding up.

amerpundit on April 14, 2007 at 8:31 PM

Right on, Allah, but be careful not to suggest that anything be done about it beyond more “negotiations” and “sanctions”, because every single RINO Chamberlains out there will have a conniption fit screaming about how doing something IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT US TO DO!!!1!!!ONE!!!!

Sitting back and doing nothing while they arm themselves with nuclear weapons, on the other hand, is the LAST thing they want us to do.

If you follow the logic of the “moderates” that is.

Misha I on April 14, 2007 at 8:50 PM

If the left can’t blame Bush ‘43, they’ll blame Bush ‘41, and Pres. Reagan.

“We instructed our client state, Israel, to blow up the Iraqi reactor.”

“Our continued, irrational support of Israel, our failure to insist they get rid of nukes, and our failure to push them to give the Palestinians a homeland is behind all of this”

Face it, we just cannot win with the left. No matter what happens, ANYWHERE, it’s going to be Bushitlers’ fault.

Nope. This will be used to blackmail the Wussified West into bending over for an Arab oil lube job.

infidel4life on April 14, 2007 at 9:28 PM

The problem with ALL of them having nukes is, Mutually Assured Destruction does not work for them. They WANT to die as long as it is in the cause of their war mongering murderous pedophilic prophet and their Allah. In their desert baked brains, they’ll be rewarded with paradise, 72 virgins, eternal supply of goats milk, and whatever else so they really have no M.A.D. deterrent there (by the way, what do the women get?).

Aside from the terrorist suitcase bomb(s) scenario, if they don’t get ICBM’s we really don’t have much to worry about on our own soil, until they do achieve ICBM capability. Israel is loaded for bear already. It would take just one little pint sized over-zealous beady eyed Muslim leader with a huge inferiority complex. I really don’t see what would stop them from roasting eachother and turning the entire Middle East into a glass parking lot eventually.

…which, if I wasn’t afeared of being banned by the thought-to-text police, I would elaborate on that a little.

Canadian Imperialist Running Dog on April 14, 2007 at 9:27 PM

Key to the calculation – density of pure tungsten is 19.3 g/cubic cm.

Volume = area (rXrXpi) X length (1000cm) = 490,620 cubic cm

Weight = Volume X Density = 490,620 X 19.3 = 9,469,000 g (9,469 Kg)

Entelechy on April 14, 2007 at 10:26 PM

Saying the whole middle east is going nuclear is tantamount to saying nuke mecca! Sorry AP, but you’re banned :(.

Entelechy, you have *way* too much time on your hands. My answer was 42.

dalewalt on April 14, 2007 at 10:35 PM

Look, let me be up front here: I would have honestly been kind of dissappointed if nobody’d had a nuclear war during my lifetime.

Now I’m practically guaranteed ringside seats. Does that suck? Well, yeah. But, damn, we are gonna live in interesting times.

Plus, NOW maybe we can suggest that nuking the Middle East ain’t a half bad plan. Or at least buying popcorn so we can enjoy ourselves watching the nuke each other.

Fire when ready, Gridley.

The whole Middle East gets into a nuclear war. Hmm. In other words they’ll be doing exactly what they’ve been doing since Mohammad started his religion… only on a bigger scale.

Mojave Mark on April 14, 2007 at 11:15 PM

Some readers have noted the advantages of a nuclear Middle East from the beginning; some have even been willing to openly advocate a nuclear Middle East in the comments. The nuclear Middle East shaping up now, however, is quite different from the sort those commenters advocated. At this point, it seems gracious if the rest will acknowledge that the sort of nuclear Middle East advocated by those commenters would have been, and would still be, of greater advantage than the one that is shaping up through pious inaction.

Kralizec on April 14, 2007 at 11:43 PM

Hey Running Dog,

You needing to determine load-bearing for your reactor’s containment structure? Heck, just call the folks at San Onofre. I’m pretty sure their lines aren’t monitored…

Kralizec on April 14, 2007 at 11:43 PM

I believe the thing that people are worked up over are the crazy’s behind those weapons. Those whose political agenda’s call for wiping Israel off the map – which is a unified opinion among most muslims there. That, and the fact that, well, 99.9% of terrorists who wish destruction on the U.S. have their origins in the middle east. I would prefer the middle east being a nuclear-free zone. It seems that’s not going to happen, so what is the next step? The only thing we have is diplomacy (yeah, right) and this missile defense sheild being tested by the Navy.

thedecider on April 15, 2007 at 2:25 AM

Cheer UP! folks; look at it this way:

1: At least it will be quicker than death from ‘Global Warming’.

2: If you DON’t die from a islamic nuclear bomb, maybe ‘Nuclear Winter’ will perfectly offset ‘Global Warming’ and everything will work out just right.

3: A big nuclear war, if it happens soon enough, might keep a Democrat out of the WhiteHouse for decades.

(Sorry about being flippant about what is likely to be one of the biggest dangers ever faced by humanity, but I’m about at the point of thinking that humanity in general deserves whatever it gets.)

Whole damned Middle East set to go nuclear

And to think…if only Clinton were still president he’d still just be warning us about Saddam’s WMD’s.

Topsecretk9 on April 15, 2007 at 3:09 AM

Excellent point:

1: At least it will be quicker than death from ‘Global Warming’.

My thought too…don’t matter how warm we make it when a nuke blows.

Nukes don’t have liberal diversionary censors – they blow up REI not just Wal Mart. Actually, their whole idea is to blow up our “liberal” culture. A chill wind blows past Tim Robbins on his treadmill as he contemplates his next meaningful millions .

Actually, that’s an interesting question. Do we have the technology to drill or refine non-radioactive oil or gas from a contaminated zone?

honora on April 15, 2007 at 12:50 PM

I’m attempting to repost this comment, because it seems to have been swallowed up by the earth the first time.

I was moved at first to take up this remark and say in what way I could agree with it, but it doesn’t present an opinion that’s clear enough or definite enough to allow one to do more than guess what’s meant. I don’t understand the way “policy” is supposed to be effective and yet somehow compatible with the freedoms offered by a liberal democracy. Because of the incompatibility I detect, I see an “oil-based policy” broadly as little more than a recognition that the United States has used, does use, and will go on using vast amounts of oil even if both Vice President Cheney and honora clench their little fists and tell everyone, “Don’t use oil.” Because I forecast the powerlessness of Mr. Cheney, honora, and everyone else to safely turn the United States on a dime, I don’t understand why it’s important that the “oil-based policy” be tagged as “Cheney’s.” Parties and partisans come and go, but oil consumption remains and even grows.

And so we come to my agreement with honora, such as it is: The actions of the rulers of the United States to secure a supply of oil for their country do seem “lame.” They build vast armies in land, sea, and air–and let their enemies live. In fact, they protect their enemies, as in Saudi Arabia, let them profit from oil sales, and let them use the profits to promote a killer religion. They could kill their enemies and take what their country needs in order to maintain its freedom and power. Instead they fiddle with “policy” and policing, while circumstances steadily worsen. In that sense, I’ll agree the “policy” is “lame.”

Kralizec on April 15, 2007 at 4:29 PM

Blather,

In principle, I don’t mind them nuking one another, however, Israel is in the way and one of those nukes will find its way to we infidels. Oh well, at least those radiation particles will wash away political correctness once and for all.

PRCalDude on April 15, 2007 at 6:44 PM

Kralizec on April 15, 2007 at 4:29 PM

Yup. It always amazes me that the left calls us “fascist” and claims that we are an “empire.”

And yet the plain truth is that if we were remotely fascist or like any real empire in history, our foriegn policy would be remarkably different.

If we were anything like liberals claim, Venezuela would already be the 51st state, Iran would be about to become the 52nd, and we wouldn’t have much to worry about when it comes to oil.

As I’ve said before … if we’re really an “empire,” we’ve gotta be the lamest empire that ever was.

Professor Blather on April 15, 2007 at 7:13 PM

I thanks the Lord we dumped the ABM treaty. Now I just need to move to the middle of no-where so no one will want to nuke my location.

Tim Burton on April 15, 2007 at 7:59 PM

Kralizec on April 15, 2007 at 4:29 PM

I don’t think anyone is naive enought to suggest “turning on a dime”, but simply because an undertaking–lessening our oil jones–is daunting, is that any reason not to start going down that path?
