Video: Jason Whitlock calls Jackson and Sharpton “terrorists”

Whitlock’s a sportswriter at the Kansas City Star whose recent column about the Imus affair has been making the rounds. I confess I hadn’t heard of him before Bryan linked him on Wednesday, but I’ve heard of him now. Have I ever.

He goes way over the top by calling them terrorists, but the rest is gold. And when the nutroots gets wind of it, the reaction — particularly among black progressives — will be ferocious. Expect the first minstrel-face photoshop of him to hit the ‘Net sometime Monday or early Tuesday. Click the image to watch.

Update: Jason Whitlock for Secretary of State?

Update: Mary K says this Whitlock column is even better than the one Bryan linked. I agree. He calls for the president and vice-president of black America to resign, but there’s really no need. They’ve already been replaced.

I linked that column the other day, but I think he wrote an even better one than the one Bryan linked, this one for AOL Sports. They’re similar, but this one asks the Pres. and VP of Black America to step down. Great stuff. Blackface Photoshopping from the Left is imminent.

Jackson once came to my town to shake down a local firm, a semiconductor manufacturer, for not having enough black employees. The CEO stood up to him, called him a pigeon who swoops in, makes a mess, and flies off leaving other people to clean it up. Didn’t give Jackson or any of his “programs” a thin dime.

Smart man. Hope to hear more from him.

mikeyboss on April 13, 2007 at 6:51 PM

Check the definition of the word “terror” – one who inspires fear. Check out “terrorist” – the systematic use of terror; especially as a means of coercion. Sums up the tactics of Rev’s. Sharpton and Jackson pretty well. They may not strap on bomb belts (mind strays in thought) but they do offer up their own brand of coercive fear.

thedecider on April 13, 2007 at 6:52 PM

Oh, it was a sea gull, not a pigeon:

Reaction to Reverend Jackson’s campaign from the media and industry has been mixed. Many voices have weighed in both for and against Reverend Jackson’s message. Some of the only public criticism has come from Cypress Semiconductor’s CEO T.J. Rodgers. The following is quoted from the Chronicle:

While a broad spectrum of Silicon Valley met with Jackson, the civil rights leader also has drawn sharp criticism from some quarters.

His most outspoken critic – Chief Executive Officer T.J. Rodgers of Cypress Semiconductor in San Jose – recently caught fire for likening Jackson to “a sea gull that flies around leaving droppings.”

Rodgers didn’t back off Monday, accusing Jackson of “shaking down companies” for funding on minority projects. Executives who disagree with Jackson’s civil rights agenda are branded as racists, Rodgers charged.

“I think this guy needs a punch in the nose. He’s offensive,” Rodgers said. “What if I walked into the Cuban district of Miami and made a bunch of generalizations about people? That would be pretty arrogant of me.”

Like any other sector in America, Rodgers said, Silicon Valley has its share of discrimination, but there is no widespread “economic apartheid” or deeply embedded racism, he said.

At Cypress, 35 percent of the work force is minority, and four of the firm’s top nine executive vice presidents are Latino, said Rodgers, who welcomes a debate with Jackson.

Jackson declined to get into a public spat with Rodgers, saying only that Rodgers is “a phantom who doesn’t exist, who doesn’t represent Silicon Valley.”

What the hell has happened to Condi? I really think the state department has some kind of stepford wives program going on over there. How else to explain why everyone who goes there becomes weak, subservient appeasers?

forged rite on April 13, 2007 at 6:55 PM

Very nice to hear. Spot on.

CrimsonFisted on April 13, 2007 at 6:57 PM

Interesting, that article I quoted from was published on April 13 …. 1999. Eight years ago and still Jackson gets away with it.

crosspatch on April 13, 2007 at 6:57 PM

We hold Imus to a higher standard than we hold ourselves.

Wow!

faraway on April 13, 2007 at 6:59 PM

This is the article that got him major buzz during the NBA All-Star game with the now famous “Black KKK” term. But for online sports fans he turned heads when he got fired from ESPN’s Page 2 for ripping into Scoop Jackson.

Ripclawe on April 13, 2007 at 7:07 PM

This could be the gold lining behind all this should Obama go about decrying the rappers’ bad and unnecessary habit of using derogatory words directed either at blacks or whites. Imagine in 2008 they try and re-do the “Rock the vote” and get people to vote for a Democratic candidate.

Let them play in the mud for awhile.

Kokonut on April 13, 2007 at 7:10 PM

Wow…if only Jason Whitlock was doing what Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton should be. What a difference it would make.

Planet Boulder on April 13, 2007 at 7:15 PM

Startling clarity and honesty. Just…wow.

Jaibones on April 13, 2007 at 7:31 PM

Yeah, I’ve seen him as a sub for Wilbon on PTI. He’s guest hosted for Rome once or twice also. He’s always seemed … ‘thoughtful’.

wowbagger on April 13, 2007 at 7:34 PM

On Scarborough last night, in-between Ana Marie Cox slipping the knife into Imus’s vertabrae over and over, black screenwriter/novelist/comic book writer John Ridley described Sharpton & Jackson as “guys who know their way around slurs and never met an apology they liked.” So he’s another Tom, I’m sure.

Jim Treacher on April 13, 2007 at 7:36 PM

Been reading Whitlock for a long time, and he’s always had cajones like this. He’s never been afraid of the typical slurs (e.g., Uncle Tom) that go with the territory where he treads, and he definitely will not cut blacks slack just because they (and he) are black.

In short, Jason has the guts to tell it like it is.

thirteen28 on April 13, 2007 at 7:40 PM

Love this guy. While I watched him I wondered if Imus is more or less of a racist after his encounter with the 2 Revs.

CanaryinaCoalMine on April 13, 2007 at 7:44 PM

ok, I just read the whitlock column….this guy has to be a republican or independent? no way he’s a democrat, right?

jp on April 13, 2007 at 7:59 PM

Whitlock expressed more wisdom is 3 minutes then Jackson & Shaprton (The Justice brothers*) have in 30 years. All I can say is right-on brother.

Articulate, intelligent, calm, reasoned and right. What a breath of fresh air.

Glynn on April 13, 2007 at 8:21 PM

If we had the proper level of self-respect, we wouldn’t act like it’s only a crime when a white man disrespects us. We hold Imus to a higher standard than we hold ourselves. That’s a (freaking) shame.

The soft bigotry of low expectations. I am thrilled to read and hear commentators finally talking frankly about the “Reverends.” Perhaps this is the tipping point and their time on the public stage is coming to an end.

One of Whitlock’s best points was that as Reverends, Jesse and Al they should show some mercy and grace to Imus, who himself has shown the contrition that the Reverends have not shown for their remarks.

Mallard T. Drake on April 13, 2007 at 8:21 PM

Read some of his past columns.

He’s the Big Sexy.

He appears on ESPN’s The Sports Reporters occcasionaly on Sundays. I’ve read him for some time. A good guy.

JammieWearingFool on April 13, 2007 at 8:30 PM

They should replace Imus with this guy.

kmcguire on April 13, 2007 at 8:31 PM

Whitlock’s the real deal. He’s been run from some nice gigs because he won’t kiss any PC rings.

Kid from Brooklyn on April 13, 2007 at 8:37 PM

He appears on ESPN’s The Sports Reporters occcasionaly on Sundays. I’ve read him for some time. A good guy.

I’ve seen him there before. He goes for the race card way too often, I think. I think he said that if a black coach gets fired, its probably race based, something like that.

From the times I’ve seen him (other than here), I never cared for him too much. I think he plays to the people he is talking to.

lorien1973 on April 13, 2007 at 9:16 PM

This guy is saying what he is thinking, and his thinking is right on the spot. As for playing the race card he was dealt it. I believe he see’s right thru the Rev. Sharpton and ole fish eye, Jackson. When we make them the decision makers for what you can and cannot say we are in deep, deep, crap.

NEMETI IN SYRACUSE on April 13, 2007 at 9:56 PM

FINALLY!

Kini on April 13, 2007 at 10:09 PM

I second the nomination – how refreshing to hear a person spout common sense.

The real hood where many black people live is in the victim hood. I hope they find a Moses like Whitlock to lead them out of this hood sometime this century.

Texas Mike on April 13, 2007 at 10:17 PM

He was correct in calling them “Terrorists” because that is what they are. “Terrorist” is not exclusive to “Islamo-Terrorist”.

Helloyawl on April 13, 2007 at 10:41 PM

Bill Cosby has lit a spark a few years ago and it’s good to see Jason Whitlock continue to burn the fire.

RE: the “terrorist” label…

He’s kinda got a point. Terrorists is just about the only think that fits for what they do….

liquidflorian on April 14, 2007 at 5:44 AM

There are “leaders” out there who are just saying nothing. These so called other leaders are not even going out and countering Sharpton and Jackson. Guess they don’t need the hassle, living their lives in protective “caves” happily and comfortably.

Maybe the ideal way of behavior for some is to say nothing. Their thought and a thought that kind of makes sense is, whole Imus thing will blow over in several weeks. Then, we will be on the next “new thing”. They will seize the day/week on a different topic.

There is always a “New Thing”. “New Things” keep the 2 publicity hounds / extortionists relevant to some. The “Some” are the loudest people on earth, who have their “Ho’s” the press megaphoning their message. Leaders, like Powell, Rice and some others have other things to worry about, let the blow hard extortionists Jackson and Sharpton (imagine the way Rush pronounces their names)blow over when the Press gets bored with this issue.

AN INCONVENIENT CONVERSATION

Son: Dad, what is the n-word? I keep hearing about it in school, but no one will tell me what it is.

Dad: Well, they can’t tell you, and I can’t tell you, either.

Son: Is it a word in the dictionary?

Dad: Not anymore.

Son: Why?

Dad: Because they took out.

Son: Who are they?

Dad: They are the keepers of the n-word.

Son: Do they know what it is?

Dad: Yes, and they use it all the time, but won’t let others use it.

Son: But, why can’t we use it?

Dad: Because the keepers consider it hate speech, and they will get mad.

Son: What will they do if they get mad?

Dad: They will send out keepers of the n-word to destroy those who are using it.

Son: Isn’t that a little drastic?

Dad: Yes, but, in their eyes, they are keeping their cultural heritage pure.

Son: Well, when they use it, does it mean they hate each other, too?

Dad: No.

Son: Why?

Dad: Because their cultural demands its use in all forms of entertainment.

Son: Why entertainment?

Dad: Because it is how they express their feelings toward one another.

Son: In civics class we learned about the 2nd Amendment in the Constitution, and how it guarantees free speech, but your telling me we can’t use the n-word. How can that be?

Dad: Because the keepers have seen to it that their cultural heritage supersedes free speech.

Son: But, what about the Supreme Court?

Dad: Well, they, too, have seen to it that one’s culture supersedes free speech.

Son: But, Dad, what sense does make that if everyone already knows what the n-word is, yet are not allowed to speak it?

Dad: Son, can you say – Twilight Zone?

Son: BUMMER!

You racist! You can’t call a black man “articulate.”

Please report to your nearest re-education center. Or send $50 to the Rainbow Coalition. Your choice.

I “heart” Jason Whitlock

ctmom on April 14, 2007 at 10:13 AM

He was correct in calling them “Terrorists” because that is what they are. “Terrorist” is not exclusive to “Islamo-Terrorist”.

Helloyawl on April 13, 2007 at 10:41 PM

Nope. Sorry. We don’t play the liberal game of tossing around words so much they lose their meaning. “Terrorist” has already been watered down too much.

Got a bomb strapped around you as you walk into a pizza place? You’re a terrorist. If you don’t come pretty damn close to that, you aren’t.

Calling Jackson and Sharpton “terrorists” is as weak, lame, and inaccurate as liberals labeling everyone they disagree with as “fascists” or “Nazis.”

In both cases, it dishonors the memories of real victims, and makes the term so meaningless that its robbed of its impact – which is dangerous.

There are, however, plenty of accurate words to choose from. How about: idiots? Asshats? Race-baiters? Racists? Scumbags? Haters? Hate-mongers? So many nice choices. But not terrorist.

Professor Blather on April 14, 2007 at 10:17 AM

Pardon the home team love….
but Jason Whitlock was a loud and underinformed hack when Notre Dame fired its coach Ty Willingham 2 years ago. Threw “racism” around like no one had ever heard about it before.

I have always thought, from his columns and ESPN appearances, that he does take a contrarian position sometimes just to highight himself.

Has he learned that the charge of racism doesn’t solve all of society’s ills? I doubt it.

BB on April 14, 2007 at 10:57 AM

Why do they get the media spotlight instead of a Bill Cosby who truly cares about his race? Those two shills desreve more than firing …they deserve jail time!

Mellen on April 14, 2007 at 11:32 AM

I am so glad to see this coming out of Black America! I hope his views and attitudes are more common among his peers than current perception would tend to indicate.

Get off the victim schtick and realize that the most advantageous place to be in America is minority and ambitious and competent. Talk about just raw opportunity for success and being welcomed with open arms by business and politics!

Hell I WISH I was minority. It would’ve made building my little business MUCH faster and easier. Big contracts are often heavily biased in favor of minorities, especially if the funding is coming from any governmental or private foundation sources. I know this for an absolute fact, having dealt directly with it for years now.

Thompson/Steele 2008! Now that would be a historically significant Administraion on many many levels. It would be so good for our Country.

techno_barbarian on April 14, 2007 at 11:39 AM

Hmmm… wonder if it might be possible for Jason Whitlock to do a guest Vent sometime here on HotAir?

I’d very much enjoy seeing and hearing that.

Don’t Black men who speak the truth usually get attacked by the media? Hope he doesn’t have any skeletons the media can pull out cause that man spoke with clarity and is much needed! Only think wrong is I think he said “soccer” instead of “Lacrosse”

Drtuddle on April 14, 2007 at 12:00 PM

This guy sounds like the real deal. A smart man who cares about what is effecting his life, his family’s life and the eventual fate of 20 % of his nation. Really good stuff.

jimwesty on April 14, 2007 at 12:36 PM

I don’t know what part of the political spectrum this guy falls in, but he is so impressive on this issue. Even if he was liberal in other areas, I’d love to see him as a Fox News contributor (the one channel he didn’t appear on??) because he is just wonderful to listen to.

deedledee on April 14, 2007 at 1:51 PM

He’s fast becoming one of my heroes. As stated above, he’s got the cajones to kick against the goads. I’ve a great deal of respect for the man. I’m a teacher at a High School for wards of the court, teens who have commited crimes of various levels (Mostly drug and gang related). I see this terrible culture Whitlock has describbed on a day to day basis and breaking through this “philosophy” that the kids have is by far the hardest thing I have to do in my desperate attempt to show these kids there is so much more in life than the “hood” that they grew up in… of course, I’m white… so nothing bad’s ever happened to me, my life is perfect, and I don’t have to know what it means to struggle for anything :rolling eyes:

rahjr2k on April 14, 2007 at 2:49 PM

Maybe the bigger story is the little one at the end. Obama going center or is he just a all inclusive destroyer of freedom of speech?

Buzzy on April 14, 2007 at 3:36 PM

For years, Drs. Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams have been writing and lecturing about how blacks have their future in their own hands, and don’t require any outside intervention by those who are more interested in exploiting them.

But, for so long, their words went unheeded until, recently, they got a push from another Doctor named William Cosby. And, who, due to his celebrity, blacks, especially, young blacks, are beginning to listen to Sowell’s, Williams’, and Cosby’s message of entitlement.

Are we, then, starting to see a crack in the J&S Black Victimology Institute that has been telling blacks for the last 40 years that they are incapable of doing anything for themselves unless they get help from them?

Jason Whitlock certainly sounds like the reason for that crack, which, in time, could be the genesis for a new song: “We did overcome”.

pocomoco on April 14, 2007 at 4:53 PM

I watched Tara Setmayer, a conservative black woman who is communications director for Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, last night on Inside Politics Weekend. Tara, a very articulate common sense person, ripped the Sharpton/Jackson duo pointing out the hypocrisy.

She has been on the factor and would be the ideal counterweight to Rosie on the View. It gives me hope people like her and Whitlock may be waking blacks up to rise above and stop their fixation on the color of their epidermis.
