Open thread: Michelle guest-hosting the Factor again; Video: Olby defends Michelle; Video: Michelle on Shabazz

Show starts in 10 minutes. I’m told Geraldo was on to talk about Imus but the subject naturally veered towards immigration, resulting in a punch-up and the boss getting him in a headlock until he lost consciousness.

Or maybe I’m exaggerating slightly. You’ll just have to watch and see, won’t you?

We at HA love Papa Bear, consider him a national treasure, and would never dare suggest that he could be replaced. But … I’d be remiss if I didn’t note that the ratings were pretty sweet last night. Supah-stah!

There’ll be video here of one sort or another in a bit. Standby.

Update: I’m working on a clip of MM; sit tight. In the meantime, here’s what was going on across the dial.

Awfully big of Olby to defend her from Malik Shabazz. Except … that wasn’t Malik Shabazz in the screencap they used. It was Opio Sokoni, who appeared in the segment before Shabazz’s. Close enough, Kayo!

Interesting, too, how eerily similar their screencap was to the frame I chose for our own video clip last night:

mm412a1mbps.jpg

Update: All right, you get a grab bag tonight. The bookends are the talking points memo from the beginning of the show and the viewer mailbag at the end. In between, the good, the bad, and the ugly of Geraldo Rivera. Takeaway: “Whose civil rights?”

Blowback

So, what’s the drinking game rules? :-)

Seriously, she’s off to a strong start.

steveegg on April 13, 2007 at 8:02 PM

I wonder who will be calling Michelle a ho tonight? Or blaming George Washington for all the ills of the world?

She really does need her own show. Replacing that airhead Hannity with her would be a good start.

bamapachyderm on April 13, 2007 at 8:03 PM

Wah. Kids have control of the remote. DVR is on, I have to rely on the play by play here!

I love to see Geraldo get taken down a peg or two.

Pretty impressive numbers,I wonder if any of the cable news channels have any open time slots. Like in the morning maybe…

O’Reilly had a good night…and he wasn’t even on the air…Michelle Malkin was. MSNBC beat CNN in the morning without Don Imus.

Where to begin…Michelle needs her own show and here’s the proof. As for MSNBC, dull surprise. Has anyone watched CNN in the morning lately?

Imus!

TheBigOldDog on April 13, 2007 at 8:06 PM

I still don’t get why THIS “nappy headed ho” crap has caused such consternation, when he’s been saying ugly stuff for years about blacks, Jews, women, everyone. I think Imus sucks so I couldn’t care less if he’s on or not, but it’s ridiculous to fire him NOW. Where were the fraud-mongers Sharpton and Jackson years ago? (And I’m guessing they’ve never listened to Howard Stern?)

bamapachyderm on April 13, 2007 at 8:08 PM

Michelle manages to be assertive without being bitchy or overbearing. I say she should shoot for a trifecta. Radio spots ala Newt or the Rush update, guest commentator on Fox, and her own tv commentary show. Just don’t forget your grounding Michelle.

Mojave Mark on April 13, 2007 at 8:10 PM

Mainly, because it was said about specific young women who are not public figures, not nappy headed and not whores.

Jackson and Sharpton only have the power granted them by the liberal press. If they ignored them, they’d have no power.

Sharpton did not bring down Imus. Imus brough t down Imus. Here’s the inside dope:

As I have said a few times before: I’d love it if Michelle replaced O’Reilly permanently. I quit watching his show daily more than a year ago. Maybe watch half an hour of it once a week now.

With Michelle hosting, I’d be back to watching the whole show every day.

At least let her have Greta’s time slot if they think O’R is that profitable for them. I bet Michelle would triple Greta’s numbers.

Only 15 minutes into it now… Michelle lseems completely at ease; Looks like she is ready for full-time Prime-time.

Had to smile when “Herraldo” mentioned ‘Capone’s Vault’… I’ve never forgiven him for conning me into wasting two hours of my life and making me feel stupid for watching that show.

Supah-stah is right!!!

Again, she is relaxed, very well prepared, confident, having fun too. A natural TV personality if ever there was.

Too bad KP couldn’t drop by for a chat, that would have been icing on the cake.

No Miss Goslee, he said they were INNOCENT. INNOCENT. INNOCENT!

TheBigOldDog on April 13, 2007 at 8:24 PM

Why not give Michelle Geraldo’s spot on Fox for starters? Geraldo MUST be thinking that might be a possibility.

Instead of these O’Reilly encore segments, could we get a Halftime Report? And O’Reilly needs to stop sending his producer out to stalk people. It’s getting creepy.

And O’Reilly needs to stop sending his producer out to stalk people. It’s getting creepy.

I laugh because they are so bad at it. It’s like armature hour. I can hear Bill… “Send the kids out, let them make their bones like I did”…ha, ha, ha

TheBigOldDog on April 13, 2007 at 8:38 PM

Yeah, Right ALL illegal aliens come here because they want to pay taxes. I wish there had been some numbers given (maybe there were, but I missed it).

How many illegal aliens are paying income taxes? Raw numbers or percentages.

I’m guessing maybe 5-maybe-10% at best. And the ones that DON’T pay taxes are likely the ones that consume the largest amount (per-capita) of taxpayer funded aid.

steveegg on April 13, 2007 at 8:41 PM

I think H&C should be moved to 10PM, bump Greta (sorry Greta) and give the 9PM slot to Michelle. There is no doubt in my mind that what ever the show format, it would be success. No doubt at all.

Zorro on April 13, 2007 at 8:42 PM

I must be smarter than O’Reilly. I’d be really worried about my job if MM took it over for two days.

RedWinged Blackbird on April 13, 2007 at 8:55 PM

H&C is almost too much to take. Sean thinks he’s St Peter. He’s got everybody’s list of sins that he rattles of ad nauseum in lieu of actually having a discussion. The Crypt Keeper simply reads off the Lefty talking points and will defend anyone and anything they tell him to. It’s too much to take at times.

rw on April 13, 2007 at 10:52 PM

All this talk about Michelle replacing Bill O’R or Sean Hannity and not a one who’d suggested that Geraldo should be dumped? Bill and Sean are uneven, which is the biggest frustration, they’re spot on some things and flop around on others, but at least they’re light-years ahead of Geraldo. He thinks Sharpton is a “great man.” Yeh. Well, Geraldo does not understand “charismatic leadership.” That is leadership by the force of an inidvidual’s personality, rather than an ideology. Sharpton has that characteristic, which he has used to promote himself. When leadership is used to lead people into evil, then it’s bad. Sharpton is not leading people to a better life, he’s leading them to hate. “Great” should never be used with him. Course, Geraldo thinks people who object to illegals are “racists.” Never does he consider that there are thousands and thousands of white illegals in the US, too. He is solely focused on one group only – to the detriment of all others. He’s no “big thinker,” just a Liberal Left, self-absorbed media hack. How he continues to snag media time is one of life’s aggravating mysteries.

naliaka on April 13, 2007 at 10:59 PM

Good point naliaka. Geraldo makes every topic be about Geraldo.

NTWR on April 13, 2007 at 11:04 PM

With all the talk of MM getting her own FNC show, no one has mentioned that Fox will be rolling out the FOX Business Channel in the fourth quarter of 2007. I would imagine that FBC would find itself in the same primetime situation as CNBC and would need to fill out their schedule either with new programs or simulcasts of the FNC broadcast. They could leverage the cable systems to carry the new channel by moving Greta over there and building a lineup around her audience. They could also make it an “FNC East” channel and show Red Eye at a decent hour on the east coast.

Allahpundit/Bryan -
Slightly OT, but are you aware Michelle gets a mention in an article on the blogosphere in the current issue of Discover magazine, page 22. It includes an interesting visualization of one-way and reciprocal links among the blogs. Relevant excerpt (referring to their visual):

…This blob represents a balanced sociopolitical discourse. The prevalence of purple in this area shows that most of these links are reciprocal, suggesting a sort of metadialogue between bloggers who hurl headlines at one another. The brightest light belongs to syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin.

token on April 14, 2007 at 3:02 AM

Allah, I think viewers/readers would benefit from seeing video of Malkin smashing that race peddling former district attorney (or whatever she was), who kept talking about the “victim” in the Duke case, and complaining about how this “African-American woman” was characterized so badly, which is something she claims happens with frequency (Not sure if she meant the character of passed out drunk strippers, who are also likely hookers, who have histories of false allegations, their own rap sheets, who change their stories multiple times, who’s allegation contradicts alibis and the word of the other stripper, who had multiple DNA samples in her… DNA sampler, none of which matched anyone on the Duke lacrosse team… yeah, those poor HOs are always having their character’s besmirched).

She kept using qualifying language and saying that “as an officer of the court” and as a legal matter, she accepts the ruling, etc. but she refused to just give an honest personal opinion on the matter and clearly gives the impression that because she’s a racist black woman, she can’t just be honest about what happened in this situation.

Michelle busts her saying “if” they’ve been exonerated… That’s when it gets good. She claims she’s “not saying if”, but Michelle notes “you just did”, then she keeps trying to clarify things… only the more she talks and insists that she’s been clear, the more confusing and less clear she gets.

Priceless. I saw it already, but I think other HA readers would like to see it AP.

Frantic Freddie on April 14, 2007 at 11:55 AM

I totally agree with Rigthwinged’s view that the video with Georgia Goslee should be shown on HotAir and the reasons he gives for why such a video would be very instructive for those who did not see the exchange on TV. I can only add a comment on Goslee’s assertion that she originally hopped into the case only because the media was sliming the accuser (”victim” according to Goslee) from the word go. What planet does see live on? “Straight A student,” “shy and demure,” “traumatized,” “a working mother having to strip for a living and being vulnerable to exploitation because of the evil society we live in,” etc., etc. The media painted her as a saint with Mensa-like brilliance, and the Durham Herald Sun very early on had access to extremely damaging information both about statements the accuser made and her mental state that it withheld in order to aid the hoax.

I also endorse Nalaika’s call for Michelle to be given the time slots Geraldo now occupies. Greta is not to my taste, but at least she has accommodated herself to the fact that Fox News has a conservative audience and no longer insults her audience as she did when she started. Geraldo, on the other hand, continually insults it as, for example, when he dismisses those wanting to stop illegal immigration as racists and characterizes Minutemen as nothing but violent Nazi vigilantes.

Michelle did a tremendous job. One thing she is especially good at is getting racist and sexist bile from left-wing nut jobs who would not dare insult O’Reilly directly but think they can beat up on a “woman of color” (to use their terminology) whom they believe should think as they do. Happily, in addition to exposing their vileness, Michelle puts these hateful bigots in their place.

Couldn’t agree more Michelle. They created these monsters. Every ounce of their power comes directly from the Liberal media. If they ignore or expose them, they will fade away.

Jackson already put MSNBC on notice that they are “too white” during in interview with Gregory (guest hosting on Hardball). That, coupled with Imus, will cause the MSM to change the way they deal with Sharpton, Jackson and the rest of the race baiters.

You need to get BOR to stop treating Sharpton like a “great man” too. He has nothing to fear from him anymore IMHO. A few months ago, after it was clear the Duke case was a hoax, Bill had Sharpton on to discuss it. Bill never even mention Tawana Brawley and the obvious parallels…. Buck him up Michelle. Bill either needs to start confronting him or drop him from the guest list. JMHO.

TheBigOldDog on April 14, 2007 at 12:30 PM

Another fine job Michelle!

Al Sharpton I think is a great man Maybe the greatest civil rights leader of all time.

Really think about it. A great man?? Consider who you think of as truly great men? This cheapens and bastardize the whole idea of American great men! If Al Sharpton is a great man then so is David Duke.

This is so ludicrous it is funny on some level but yet it isn’t. It is dangerous and indicative of the wide double standard and “relativeness” of definitions and of our history that we put up with to our own demise. This incremental movement to the socialistic view that has been going on for way too long now. Hopefully with the help of people like Michelle we will ALL stand up and draw the line in the sand that says No more guilt driven politics, No more race driven politics and finally no more politics that are attempting to destroy America and American sovereignty!

Altura Ct. on April 14, 2007 at 12:35 PM

From MMs site:

I think I was about to hurl when Geraldo called Al Sharpton a “great man” and one of the nation’s top “civil rights” leaders. You can hear me mutter “whose civil rights?” Certainly not the rights of innocent prosecutor Steve Pagones, who was truly scarred for life by the lying, conniving Sharpton machine. Jeff Jacoby summarizes Sharpton’s “great” record:

1987: Sharpton spreads the incendiary Tawana Brawley hoax, insisting heatedly that a 15-year-old black girl was abducted, raped, and smeared with feces by a group of white men. He singles out Steve Pagones, a young prosecutor. Pagones is wholly innocent — the crime never occurred — but Sharpton taunts him: “If we’re lying, sue us, so we can . . . prove you did it.” Pagones does sue, and eventually wins a $345,000 verdict for defamation. To this day, Sharpton refuses to recant his unspeakable slander or to apologize for his role in the odious affair.

1991: A Hasidic Jewish driver in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights section accidentally kills Gavin Cato, a 7-year-old black child, and antisemitic riots erupt. Sharpton races to pour gasoline on the fire. At Gavin’s funeral he rails against the “diamond merchants” — code for Jews — with “the blood of innocent babies” on their hands. He mobilizes hundreds of demonstrators to march through the Jewish neighborhood, chanting, “No justice, no peace.” A rabbinical student, Yankel Rosenbaum, is surrounded by a mob shouting “Kill the Jews!” and stabbed to death.

1995: When the United House of Prayer, a large black landlord in Harlem, raises the rent on Freddy’s Fashion Mart, Freddy’s white Jewish owner is forced to raise the rent on his subtenant, a black-owned music store. A landlord-tenant dispute ensues; Sharpton uses it to incite racial hatred. “We will not stand by,” he warns malignantly, “and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business.” Sharpton’s National Action Network sets up picket lines; customers going into Freddy’s are spat on and cursed as “traitors” and “Uncle Toms.” Some protesters shout, “Burn down the Jew store!” and simulate striking a match. “We’re going to see that this cracker suffers,” says Sharpton’s colleague Morris Powell. On Dec. 8, one of the protesters bursts into Freddy’s, shoots four employees point-blank, then sets the store on fire. Seven employees die in the inferno.

If Sharpton were a white skinhead, he would be a political leper, spurned everywhere but the fringe. But far from being spurned, he is shown much deference. Democrats embrace him. Politicians court him. And journalists report on his comings and goings while politely sidestepping his career as a hatemongering racial hustler.

Israpundit has more.

There is, contrary to Geraldo’s assertion, a world of difference between Imus’s career of dumb remarks and Sharpton’s career of malicious racial demagoguery.

There is no ideological difference between the hate-mongering likes of Malik Shabazz and Al Sharpton.

Yes Ma’am, shine the light! Hallelujah, praise the lord and shine that righteous light for all to see the poison these people truly are.

Nothing could have given a better opportunity to expose these bad actors to the light of day than Imus’ big mouth and the Duke rape charges being dropped.

More, more!

No wonder people all over the world hate Americans. Our fellow citizens take the time to write the same crazy left wing crap we find at HuffPo, DailyKos, etc in foreign newspaper blogs/bulletin boards.

Below is a sample of someone writing to the Sun/UK in response to a thread defending Americans “Re: Why all this anti-american crap. Cant you just leave them alone?”

Here is the link and the post I’m referring to is copied below.

I love the last part where she refers to Fox and “…Bill O’Reilly and their other shock jocks… are rude, nasty and pro war…”!

So, Michele is a shock jock AND A PROSTITUTE for Fox? I do declare, where does she find the time?!

Re:Why all this anti-american crap. Cant you just leave them alone?
Well I just stumbled across the Sun for a news article, and looked at your blog and thought I could at least give you another view on this subject. I live in Washington state in the USA, I am a mother of 4 kids, 2 grown, to adults. I am a liberal semi educated American with English, Scot, Dutch, And a little French and Native American, on both of my parents side. So my ancestors were European, way back, when America was an English colony! It’s funny to read the blog talking about American’s and how rotten they are!!!!The thing about America being peaceful until the Americans came, who of course were English, and French at first for the most part! Believe me I protested against Vietnam for years, and I and at least half of all Americans are protesting against our illegal (many of us feel) immoral, invasion of Iraq. But you have to understand that even though Bush was reelected he really wasn’t. Bush shouldn’t have one at all, the first time, the deciding state was Florida, Bush’s brother just happened to be the governor of Florida, there was many descriptions in the votes as to if they were valid, many of us feel that they were not. Many of us feel that Bush got voted the first time do to crooked politics. America has changed post Bush, the second election many Americans, including me, wanted to just leave the country, we couldn’t believe he won… We are talking about a large amount of people here and really at least half of all Americans voted against Bush. Since his reign, our civil right to privacy have been assaulted through the use of the patriot act, and the neorepublicans have been brutal, bullys. We have become a hated and feared country, we are very very aware of this. The past year the democratic party has taken control of the senate through our last election, thank goodness. They do not have as much power as the President and his gang but they have a huge say and are working to get the power back to the US citizens, and out of Iraq. We have had a series of protests, that have been met by some police brutality, it was not good, but because there were tons of witnesses with cameras, the illegal arrests and charges had to be dropped. We are talking about peaceful protest against the war in Iraq. The American people are hugely divided by the conservative born again Christians, and the liberal democrats, and green party people. Believe me most of us really really dislike, hate what is going on in Iraq, we are against it, half of the US, that is, and it’s sad that the entire US is being stereotyped because of Bush and his gang. I know it’s wrong, and I am not alone, it’s absolutely an immoral and illegal invasion of a small third world country for what, oil????? I know it’s not for protection or to get the bad terrorists, we are less safe than we have ever been, most of our military is in Iraq terrorising those people…..Really I don’t blame others for their feelings about America, but you need to understand that this is a very unusual complex cultural conflict, in America, we are divided down the middle, it’s very …….not good. I have never seen as much division and anger from both sides and the divide is huge!!!!Go on the New York Times site, or the Washington Post, another great site that really speaks for half of all Americans is called alternet #####//####alternet.org/ this site will link you to the other half of Americans who are against the war. If you go to Fox News Network, and listen to Bill O’Rielly and their other shock jocks, you will hear neo republican garbage, the Bush gang, they are rude nasty and pro war, they hate the liberals in America they consider us the enemy….Check it out, Have A Nice DAy .\;o)

CAN YOU BELIEVE THE MALKINS ON THIS ONE? FEEL FREE TO ANSWER HER OR GENERALLY SOUND OFF USING THE ABOVE LINK TO THE (BRITISH) SUN NEWSPAPER (IN CASE I CAN’T FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET THE LINK TO WORK I’LL SAVE MYSELF THE TROUBLE OF POSTING IT AGAIN. HERE IT IS:

OK, I just know this whole post will be a mess. I’ve lost track of where I put “emphasis” and “strong”, etc. Will we ever be able to just click “italics” and “bold” like a normal email program or word processing program? I’m just saying… NOT COMPLAINING. You guys do a fantastic job with this site. And what with all the shock jocking and whoring for Fox, it’s a wonder you have time to brush your teeth!!

Michelle, kudos on your TV interview with Shabazz.
His poison is predictable, and at least you know in advance, that it will be full of nothing but black white hate. Anyway, good job in keeping the conversation in perspective.

When Geraldo came out with his “Al Sharpton is a great man” contention, Michelle should’ve pulled out Tawana Brawley and beathim over the head and shoulders with her. And Obama piling on Imus after befriending the woman-demeaning filthy-lyric rapper Ludacris was, quite simply, ludicrous. Rap is dying, anyway; its sales over the past year or so are waaay down, as more and more people are recognizing it to be a black pornographic sexist, racist and homophobic doppelganger clone of disco – and just as shallow, empty, musically barren and self-indulgent.

If Michelle DOES get her own show, I think her first guest oughta be Chris Matthews, so she can get some payback. Now THERE’S something I’d pull up some popcorn and watch!

I did not know Geraldo sniffed glue.

“Awfully big of Olby to defend her from Malik Shabazz. Except … that wasn’t Malik Shabazz in the screencap they used. It was Opio Sokoni, who appeared in the segment before Shabazz’s.”

Oh! Talk about a softball set-up.

Herr ubermann – forever the straight man.

WTF OVER. . . Geraldo says, Sharpton will go down as
a great man .
He will quickly change that tune when Rev Al
calls him a spic.

Whatever little respect I had for Geraldo has
completely evaporated.
He’s as washed up as Imus.
