Not. In “Bring the Pain,” Rock takes pains (no pun intended) to differentiate between law-abiding, upstanding, forward-thinking black people and their opposite, same-race number. It is the latter to whom Rock refers to as the n-word epithet. I’m not necessarily co-signing with Rock, but I wanted to correct the record.

Additionally, Rock’s BtP routine had an advantage over Imus’s “ho” routine in comparison: Rock was funny. Being funny allows for a lot of leeway.

I don’t find calling female students athletes “nappy headed hos” humorous in the least, ad lib or otherwise.

I don’t consider the Rutgers lady basketball players “sacred members of the liberal establishment” – the recipients of Imus’s so-called “joke” that got him canned.

Imus’s career isn’t over by any means, it is only over at MSNBC and CBS radio. He’ll pop up somewhere else, probably land a higher paying contract and continue with his disgusting comments and racial barbs.
