Snoop on Imus: The ho’s I talk about are totally different kinds of ho’s

Nuance.

“It’s a completely different scenario,” said Snoop, barking over the phone from a hotel room in L.A. “[Rappers] are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We’re talking about ho’s that’s in the ‘hood that ain’t doing sh–, that’s trying to get a n—a for his money. These are two separate things. First of all, we ain’t no old-ass white men that sit up on MSNBC [which announced Wednesday it would drop its simulcast of Imus' radio show] going hard on black girls. We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel. I will not let them mutha—-as say we in the same league as him.”

Oh, those ho’s. Question: Has the backlash formally begun? Every day this drags on, the only sympathetic characters, i.e., the Rutgers women’s team, get increasingly crowded out by interest groups and media whores looking to trade on the uproar, with Sharpton representing the nexus and ne plus ultra of the two. The latest entrant, per Debbie Schlussel: CAIR. Although I think my favorite has to be newly demure exit-poll wiz Ana Marie Cox, who’s suddenly decided she can’t in good conscience justify appearing on his show anymore even though he’s been a racist tool for years — coincidentally at precisely the moment he’s no longer in a position to help her career. Carry these words in your heart forever, dear readers, bearing in mind that her main claims to fame are (a) posing for photos with a woman who took money for sex and (b) working low-rent anal references into nearly every post she ever wrote:

Once, after I was on, he and his gang proceeded to discuss my “creamy” skin and compliment my nice pair of … “eyes.” I later asked the producer to remind him that as far as I knew, my father was listening. Now I’m going to ask my dad not to anymore.

Heart-ache.

Imus says he’s done apologizing so either he thinks the momentum’s swinging his way and is going back on the offensive or he knows the final axe is about to drop and figures he’ll just let it rip. Drudge, meanwhile, has the red font out for Reverend Al’s vow to clean up America’s airwaves as only a man with a judgment for defamation against him can. Exit question: Have the critics overreached sufficiently that CBS now has cover to keep Imus’s radio show, or does Obama’s diktat from yesterday mean he’s destined for oblivion?

Dear Ana Marie Cox,

Imus calling Gwen Ifil a “cleaning lady” and referring to another black man as a “quota hire” wasn’t enough for you? Just what was your threshold? How did it get determined? How did you feel about these other Imus remarks and why did you not address them already? This would make for an interesting column, would it not?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Snoop Dog. What an insult to life.

It’s actually tough to come up with words that are harsh enough to describe animals such as this.

It shows just how disgusting our society has become that life forms such as this are made into heroes and become millionaires as a reward for being less important than fungus.

Not that I do, of course…but there’s a free market out there, you know.

James on April 12, 2007 at 1:13 PM

Admittedly, Snoop and some of his peers have called women “b—-es” and “ho’s” in their lyrics, but as the Dogg put it Tuesday afternoon (April 10), there is no parallel to what Imus said.

Why can’t this be spelled out? Cripe- it’s what the guy said. It can’t be all that offensive if it’s language HE uses.

This is such a bunch of crap it make one ill.

drjohn on April 12, 2007 at 1:15 PM

Looks like Snoop got off again with a slap on the wrist.

“Snoop’s position is he wants to give children and teenagers an example to follow,” Etra said of the football league.

kiakjones on April 12, 2007 at 1:16 PM

Exit question: Have the critics overreached sufficiently that CBS now has cover to keep Imus’s radio show, or does Obama’s diktat from yesterday mean he’s destined for oblivion?

No Imus fan here, but critics are definitely overreaching, particularly in their unwillingness to call out Sharpton for his numerous inflammatory statements. But CBS will probably cow to PC and drop him anyway, sufficient cover or not.

As far as Obama’s judging of Imus, Tom Maguire says it best:

Meanwhile, since Mr. Obama seems intent on judging people by their worst qualities rather than their best, perhaps we should spend more time probing his cocaine use in school. I’d rather not go there myself, but Mr. Audacity does not seem to hold out hope for all of us.

thirteen28 on April 12, 2007 at 1:16 PM

We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel.

And he seems to see nothing wrong with this. I take back my earlier comment. Calling Snoop Dog “fungus” is an insult to fungus.

Gregor on April 12, 2007 at 1:19 PM

“[Rappers] are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports.

Well, finally a positive comment from a rapper about getting an education. Hopefully this signals an end of the acting-white meme that has been enslaving blacks.

Don’t be a ho, go to sko.

I was just slumming at dKos to see if the “progressives” are feeling jubilant about the suicide attack in Iraq, and happened to notice their take on Imus.

They think we (conservatives) like Imus! How they got that, I’ll never know. I have never listened to him, but I assumed he was a liberal-leaning nasty-spirited shock jock. Hasn’t he been insulting conservatives for years? Of course there was never a media frenzy when he insulted conservatives, or Christians, or white people. He crossed the liberals this time, and they made him pay (dKos is pointing out how conservatives are not speaking out against Imus, or accusing the GOP of “taking his side”). Personally, I’m glad he’s paying a price. Wish he had had to pay a price for the countless other nasty, horrible things he has said over the years.

Of course, I never listen to Imus–I only know of him through his reputation, which it not good. And I haven’t been following this story very closely either. I could be wrong. But I’m pretty sure most conservatives have no love for Imus and are not “on his side” as dKos assumes.

They think we (conservatives) like Imus! How they got that, I’ll never know. I have never listened to him, but I assumed he was a liberal-leaning nasty-spirited shock jock.

I don’t know that they think at all. This is the typical knee-jerk response (with the emphasis on jerk) of liberals. Imus routinely insults everyone but is especially harsh on Bush. He allows Chrissie Matthews to foam at the mouth on unabatedly and often on his show.

But now that Imus has become something of a pariah the Kos twits will try to paint him as a conservative, once again proving how imcomprehensibly stupid liberals are.

drjohn on April 12, 2007 at 1:34 PM

He’s been hoisted by his own petard. His Lefty media and political friends created this environment and now he has to experience what conservatives have been dealing with for years. Now, his biggest defenders are the people he belittled and insulted for years.

Caught Ann Coulter on H&C last night and she actually agreed with Snoop in that when rappers are rapping about hos, they’re talking about actual “hos”: women who are after [otherwise undesirable] men for their money. A concept with which Imus is likely familiar.

Ann’s main objection to Imus’s words was that the Rutgers women aren’t public figures and are, therefore, out of bounds for the likes of Imus. For example, she even called Sharpton a “nappy-haired ho” and said that he was free to refer to her as a “flaxen-haired ho.” Love or hate her, that girl is funny–and fearless.

Jesse has a new target:

GREGORY: Reverend, do you think that NBC and others—NBC in this case

– effectively lets Imus get away with it, as some have said, because he’s part of the establishment? And again, I appear on his program—you know that—there’s many people at NBC who do, and I certainly know that our audience understands that as well.

JACKSON: Well, yes, number one, his show is no longer a shock jock show.

It is a very political show. He said, even today, he would not let Clinton be a guest on his show. When he has people like you on his show, and people like Tim Russert and Harold Ford and Joe Lieberman, it is a political show with a point of view.

The other side of it, there is not one black or Latino host of a show on MSNBC. So there is no sense of balance, no sense of diversity in the programming options. So we cannot settle just for the two-week cooling-off period. We must now look at MSNBC’s hosts and writers and producers and the breadth of its news coverage.

GREGORY: You say that there isn’t any diversity at MSNBC. I don’t know that’s quite a fair charge. There certainly—in other words, there is not somebody who has a program like his—

Responsibility for spreading that type of speech or image isn’t your style. Heck according to MTV Cribs you are “a family man.”

Money first, consequences be darned.

We won’t even discuss the way Black culture legitimizes that potrayal of women. White people only consume what Black people legitimize, period. So hat’s off to all the black people that buy that music, for proliferating that image!

I guess being just a fool isn’t enough anymore and you have to mix racism, but get away with it if you are Black.

CBS FIRED IMUS!

Dan Rather got much longer and was far worse. Dan uses forged documents in the news story and Imus loses his job in the entertainment wing.

Imus could have called Bush anything and been safe, but do not make a joke about the sacred members of the liberal establishment or its curtains.

What he siad was over the top, but let’s be real. Nappy-Headed-Hos equates to end of career? Wow, he got screwed and he didn’t even get caught with the Hos?

CBS FIRED IMUS!

Dan Rather got to stay far longer on TV than Imus on the radio and his offense was far, far worse. Rather used forged documents in a NEWS Broadcast and Imus loses his job for ad lib humor in the entertainment wing!

Do you live under a rock, or are you just dumb as one?

And you can bet that if he had said the same exact thing about Condoleezza Rice … he’d be a hero right about now.

Fogw, I apologize. I mistook that comment as coming from you, but now I’m confused as to what you found dumb about Oxybeles’ comment.

I don’t find calling female students athletes “nappy headed hos” humorous in the least, ad lib or otherwise.

I don’t consider the Rutgers lady basketball players “sacred members of the liberal establishment” – the recipients of Imus’s so-called “joke” that got him canned.

Imus’s career isn’t over by any means, it is only over at MSNBC and CBS radio. He’ll pop up somewhere else, probably land a higher paying contract and continue with his disgusting comments and racial barbs.

Don’t be naive. We haven’t seen the end of Imus.

OK Snoop let me see if I have this right. Stupid hos means you sell millions of cd’s and smart hos means you lose your job. OK. Got it.
