I had read about this previously and thought it was petty of the faculty to do this. I don’t think the legislature should have continued this exchange of eye pokes, but the irony does crack me up that they would decide they want to change the name of the College of Education.

I’ll also add that I am for school choice and vouchers, but I don’t like the idea of perpetual testing. Too many teachers start teaching to the test.

So soon the rinos and mindless lemming republican face dancers forget. Michelle must be proud.

Saudi puppy Jeby should have been outcast during the Florida election in a rage of patriotic revolt. That is if one is concerned about the safety of our nation. Something only played on party lines in the most blind sided pathetic blog postings. Shame on you allah.

The bill still has to pass the Senate and be signed by Crist, so it is far from a “done deal”, and while I like to giggle at what the Dems at the University must be thinking, I really don’t like either party thinking it has to name every public buil…

The University of Florida’s education school would be renamed the “Jeb Bush College of Education,” under an amendment approved this morning by the House Schools & Learning Council. What’s more, UF would also have to erect “suitable markers” noting the college’s new name and include the revised name in all university documents, including catalogues and brochures.

Oh, that’s wonderful! This is the way all Republicans should treat liberals. It is even funnier considering all the “social justice” professors that are housed in Schools of Education.

Note the vicious and immediate backlash to this very clever response to what was a very petty snipe.

Jeb Bush is hated by the public education cartel because his priority is to educate students over “valuing teachers”.

decade after decade of declining results, the public education cartel has provided one drumbeat of analasys: “we must value our teachers more”. this means in practice the renegotiation of contracts with the union which further insulates teaching staff from the obligation to perform their role as educators while demanding pay raises.

It’s telling when someone writes in that, “…nothing good has come out of any of his initiatives…” and then goes on to talk about what a bother it is for teachers to have to earn their pay.

Everywhere unions dominate education, teachers fail our students. public school per-student spending in the u.s. is twice what is spent in europe while educational results are half. The fact is that we “value” teachers too much for the results they produce.

Anyone who cares about students has abandoned the public education cartel. This includes Governor Bush, who’s reforms have caused a seven point jump in educational rank relative to the other 49 states this past year alone. Far from being a “laughing stock,” Florida has rushed ahead while states with more formidable union thugocracies have fallen behind eleven points and more.

One expects loyalists of the public education cartel to squeal and lash out with lies and smears.

The thing is the Dems would not have to do it. The faculty purposely snubbed Jeb Bush, no one gets denied by the faculty after being approved by the alumni association. Conservatives have enough class to leave the common courtesy of process intact despite political differences.

Bad president though, as vengeful as progressives are we just lined ourselves up for the Che Guevara College of Political Science.

This was reported on both radio and TV news in Orlando, as well as in the Orlando Sentinel. So you can’t say AllahP was punked.

Jeb Bush’s educational legacy has made Florida the laughing stock of the nation. FCAT, E-Comp, STAR and MAP were designed to dismantle public education. Nothing good has come out of any of his initiatives. In a time when we want to raise the quality of educators in the classroom, he has developed salary initiatives that lower career earnings and opportunities for teachers. Naming a college of education after him is an insult to all of our hard working educators.

Jeb Bush is a very polarizing figure in Florida education. I knew two fundamentalist Christian public-school teachers who regularly risked being fired for crossing the line from teacher to in-class evangelist. They were both solid Republicans, but turned into rabid Jeb-haters due to his various standardized-test (FCAT) and school choice initiatives.

At the same time, a local columnist named Mike Thomas, who is typically no friend of the Florida Republican Party, wrote a column praising Jeb’s attempt to raise educational standards at failing urban schools. The money quote from that article was, “Jeb Bush is the best friend that poor black kids have ever had in Florida.”

As an education-reform supporter, I was generally happy with Jeb’s efforts. My kids go to public school. But since I live in an A+ school district, and socialize with many Christian home-schoolers, I probably do not represent the average Florida view of Jeb Bush’s education initiatives.
