LAT poll: Rudy 29, Fred! 15, McCain 12

Fred’ll pick up 10 points once he formally declares so figure he’s within five of Rudy already. Quote:
When the broader range of GOP candidates was assessed, Thompson did particularly well among Christian conservatives. He drew support from 21% of people who identified themselves with the religious right, followed by Giuliani with 17% and McCain with 10%. Thompson’s showing may reflect suspicion among social conservatives of the other front-runners on key issues like abortion and gay rights.
He’s not the news here, though, McCain is. Third place, worst polling ever, only four ahead of Mitt, and probably about to dip a bit further thanks to the two blockbuster bombings in Iraq today. He’s already downsizing his campaign staff after the thin first-quarter fundraising and trails both Hillary and Obama in the LAT poll. He’s not dropping out anytime soon, but the next quarter’s fundraising report is due on June 30th — right around the time the surge will be expected to start showing some concrete progress in Baghdad. If the news on both counts is grim, he’ll have some hard decisions to make around July 4th.
Worth noting: he actually does better with Fred in the race than out of it. In a three-way contest, he trails Rudy by 23, 48-25. (Romney pulls 20.)
Barry O, incidentally, leads both McCain and Giuliani in the same poll and has the highest favorability rating of any candidate in the field, including Rudy, in the latest Rasmussen. Yet he’s still five points behind the Glacier, or 10 points per the LAT, or 19 points if you believe Gallup. So there’s McCain’s consolation, I guess — the polls are still all over the map at this point. Although not so much not to know that he’s in trouble.

The poll was taken last week, so it will be interesting to see the effects of Fred’s lymphoma announcementand McCain’s Iraq speech.

What about the rest of the Christian Conservatives? That’s only 48%. Did the rest choose Hunter, Brownback, etc?

Yeah, something I’d like to know…Who exactly will the evangelical right support?
JetBoy on April 12, 2007 at 2:47 PM
But… but… but… how can the frontrunner be in third place?

Why aren’t Democrats ever broken down into “groups” like Republicans?

Awesome! McVain is closing in on RUDY RINO!
Because if I have my political math right,
Fred!’s 15 as VP plus McCain’s 12 = 27!
If I’m wrong, I’ll eat Michelle’s black biker babe hat.

If Fred! enters the race and gets the nomination, prepare for a whole election season of MSM coverage along the lines of: Fred is the candidate of the religious nut Southerners, i.e, the heir to Bush’s Christian right legacy.
And I suppose they’ll be right. I mean, isn’t the knock on Rudy that he’s not Christian-y enough with his abortion stance and his apparent lack of hatred towards gays? When anyone asks “Can Rudy win over the base?” they’re really asking “Will the churchy South vote for a dude who doesn’t mind abortions?” My guess is that the churchy South won’t vote for Rudy.
I think if Fred! or Mitt get the nomination, it just keeps the Republican party mired in the religious right when it should be embracing libertarianism.
But what the hell do I know?

John McCain is our John Kerry. He’s the guy we know and may turn to if our other candidates fall apart. Don’t discount him. There’s a good shot we’ll get stuck with him at the end of this.

Fred is ripping everything apart. I think I like that way.

Danged straight! In the super-secret “Hatred of Gays” rankings, Rudy is hovering down around the “Likely to be scorched by Hell” level, when he clearly needs to be in the “Personally escorted through the Pearly Gates by the Archangel Michael” level in order to win over the churchy South.
Putz . . .

Quit insulting Mr. Thompson by saying Fred! The correct monicker is Fred!

The different groups of voters in the democratic party break down into something like this:
1. The welfare recipients group- they support the candidate most likely to expand the biggest number of government programs.
2. The race bating group - They are all guilty upper class who are closet racists themselves, they will support a candidate that will provide the most oprogressive reforms for minorities, like slave reparations.
3. Illegal aliens – We know who they are, legally they arent supposed to vote, but they all got registered, when the states gave them their driver’s licenses, so they will vote anyway, for the candidate that is most likely to give the a green card and the most social services.
4. The Pacifists – They will support the candidate most interested in calling all our troops world wide home, apologizing to those nations whose rogue governments we destoyed, and will support the superior authority of the United Nations.

Oh, and I forgot the tree huggers - they will support the candiate most likely to set aside a non-human habiata in manhattan to potect the endangered urban cock roach.

It’s a stupid viral video guy. A public access television “preacher” who swears like a sailor.
