That was obnoxious enough, but consider those statements in light of the fact that roughly a week ago she went off on a guest who poked fun at Canada for banning the baseball pillowfight ad, and then asked how did they expect to fight the War on Terror if they can’t handle that. Sound familiar? But in that instance, Rachel practically screamed at the guy about how Canadians were dying in Afghanistan, and how dare he suggest that Canadians were wimps. So it was terrible when that guy did it jokingly, but apparently not so terrible when Rachel makes the exact same argument about the U.S. a week later.

That’s the kind of hypocrisy I’m used to seeing from liberals, not from conservatives, although I’ve given up on trying to figure out what kind of “conservative” Rachel is supposed to be. Hating the Clintons does not in and of itself make a person conservative, merely a good judge of character–it shouldn’t be a political issue, just something that all decent people can agree on. But Rachel lost me when she mocked the Second Amendment, and said that if someone attacks you, you’re going to call the police on your cell phone rather than try to shoot them yourself. Well, I’m a great supporter of law enforcement, but they can’t be everywhere at once. Rachel Marsden may trust her life to a cell phone, but I’d rather put my faith in something with a lot more stopping power. Which also happens to be my constitutional right, which is the kind of thing that real conservatives usually care about.

“I don’t believe he was making a disparaging remark, and if he was, I’d be the first person to call him,” said Don Muhammad, minister of the Nation of Islam in Boston, who said he had not heard the expression in 50 years. “I suppose one ought to be allowed to clarify his remarks. I have no problem with it.”

I am not responsible for either one of those two colorful metaphors. (I AM rather envious of the poster that thought of the latter one, however.)

I prefer the term “Honkey,” “Honkey-American,” or “Whitey.” You and I could be the co-founders of NAAHA. Rise up, my fellow Honkey-Americans! We will not be oppressed any longer by our Caucasian-term-using oppressors!

Although I personally prefer being called a “cracker” or a “redneck”, but we can iron out the details later. Anything but “Caucasian.” THIS WILL NOT STAND!

N.Y. Teacher Runs Into a Racial Divide

…Sherman’s troubles began right away in September with “Nappy Hair,” a book written by an author born in the District. Sherman chose the story because she thought it would change her students’ lives. She regaled her class with the story of a little black girl with “the nappiest, fuzziest, the most screwed up, squeezed up, knotted hair.” She said they loved it so much that “they clamored for copies to carry with them.” An eager new teacher, she made some.

Two months later, just before Thanksgiving break, a parent found a pack of pages from “Nappy Hair” in her daughter’s folder. The title did not make her happy, according to Board of Education spokesman J.D. LaRock, who explained that she and some other parents at the predominantly black and Hispanic school interpreted “nappy hair” as a racial slur.

After a day of review, the school backed Sherman and “Nappy Hair,” which has been critically praised as a positive lesson for children.

Carolivia Herron, the author of “Nappy Hair,” said Sherman’s students were exactly the audience for whom she intended the book. “I wrote it delighting in nappy hair,” said Herron, who is black. “I love my own nappy hair and the stories my uncle used to tell me about it. It was a celebration, and I had no idea it would be political. I am a ’60s person and thought we had already dealt with this problem of being ashamed of our hair.”

The problem is that something is offensive if enough people think it is. It’s all about perception. Which is why I would like to join your quest to make Caucasian an offensive term. “Ho” is a derogatory term for women meaning “whore”. It is not racist.

The latter, however is hugely insulting, so I guess we can all agree now that Imus is an insulting jerk. But who, exactly, didn’t already know that?

(And before anybody starts howling that a term is racist if somebody decides that it is, let me herewith announce that I consider “Caucasian” to be both insulting and racist. I’ve never even been close to the Caucasus, so if anybody EVER refers to me that way, I expect them to be suspended from their jobs for two weeks and apologize several times a day for at least as long. Because I said so.)

Rachel’s logic is ridiculous. One of the few conservative “Talking Heads” who makes me feel embarrassed.

You’re right. If Marsden wasn’t (somewhat) hot, her mug wouldn’t see the light of day. Doesn’t help that she is crazy. Google her to see the details of her craziness in all its glory (convicted for harrassment, stalking her ex etc).
