Today’s must-reads

Judging by Digg and a couple other ways we have of doing damage assessments, it’s fair to say that Michelle’s column re Imus has struck quite a nerve. If you haven’t read it, you ought to.
And you also ought to read Jason Whitlock on the subject. Whitlock is a sports writer at the Kansas City Star. AJ Rice from the Laura Ingraham show tipped me to Whitlock’s column, which is too good to exerpt. Fair use being what it is, though, here’s a taste.
Thank you, Don Imus. You’ve given us (black people) an excuse to avoid our real problem.
You’ve given Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson another opportunity to pretend that the old fight, which is now the safe and lucrative fight, is still the most important fight in our push for true economic and social equality.
You’ve given Vivian Stringer and Rutgers the chance to hold a nationally televised recruiting celebration expertly disguised as a news conference to respond to your poor attempt at humor.
Thank you, Don Imus. You extended Black History Month to April, and we can once again wallow in victimhood, protest like it’s 1965 and delude ourselves into believing that fixing your hatred is more necessary than eradicating our self-hatred.
The bigots win again.
Seriously, read the whole thing.

Two very good reads. Thanks Bryan!

Just…wow.
Jaibones on April 11, 2007 at 3:16 PM
Yep…I read Michelle’s piece in the NY Post this morning too. And on Digg, they are going absolutely nuts in the comments!
I left a couple zingers for the “diggerals” to chew on…
And yeah, there are actually some sane ones, admitting they don’t like Michelle, but giving her kudos for the article.
She definetly struck a nerve with that one…

Frederick Douglass is smiling somewhere….somebody gets it.

Wow…Michelle’s Imus piece is number one in the Digg top ten stories now! 1813 “diggs” at this writing…
I just love the “This is from Malkin…bury this as spam” comments…
JetBoy on April 11, 2007 at 3:21 PM
That’s pretty mellow compared to some of what she gets in a lot of user submitted sites…

Actually, I think it rather exposes them because we’ve been down this road many, many times before.
If you think about it, the Jacksons and Shaptons that feed upon this just deaden a nerve, in one ear and out the other. Sorta like what happens when I lay on my side with water in my ears.
Kini on April 11, 2007 at 3:29 PM
Um, yeah. Nice work on both. I thought Jason Whitlock’s article was great and parallels what Cosby has been saying for some time. Of course the typical liberal commenters such as Sharon piped in with this stroke of genius….
Did David Duke write this for you, Stepin Fetchit?
pistolero on April 11, 2007 at 3:34 PM
Boy, does Whitlock have Mike Lupica pegged.
mymanpotsandpans on April 11, 2007 at 3:37 PM
excellent points in both articles, as Bryan said they’re both “Must Read”s.

good reads BP

In recent years, Jason has very hard on blacks who ‘play the card’ reflexively. Did you know that another black columnist in the KC Star, Rhonda Chriss Lokeman, wrote this little gem in Sunday’s paper?
And we all know about Fiddy Cent and his ilk calling women “hos”, so if a black person calls another black person either nappy-headed or a ho, there’s no problem. So the only problem is when WHITE folks say these words.
And that takes us back to the other N-word. If it’s wrong for white folks to use these words, it’s wrong for everyone to use them.

I’ve been reading Whitlock for years. He’s a straight-shooter and even when I didn’t agree with him, I always respected his opinion. Great article.
Malpaso on April 11, 2007 at 4:14 PM
Awesome job by both Whitlock and Michelle.
Benaiah on April 11, 2007 at 4:16 PM
Maybe Imus has done some good after all…maybe my mistake, but there is good coming out of this.
right2bright on April 11, 2007 at 4:21 PM
Absolutely. It’s what Bill Cosby has been saying all along.
infidel4life on April 11, 2007 at 4:27 PM
Whitlick also wrote a fine article on the NBA All-Star Game.

It is time for black men and women to stand up to the coarsening of our culture by the hip-hoppers et al., just like it is time for the moderate Muslims to stand up against the Islamists who are promoting the ideals of jihad. When white people and Westerners react to these “movements,” they are racists who are trying to hold down minorities. When their own people take a stand, then the thugs and fanatics have to listen and respond. They can’t play the racism card.
Mallard T. Drake on April 11, 2007 at 4:39 PM
Amazing. I follow sports and did not hear about this story. Did the MSM take a pass, or was I asleep? I have not followed the NBA closely for several years. The more the hip-hop culture has infected the game, the less I am intereseted. That and the fact that Howard Shultz ruined the Sonics before selling them to out-of-town buyers…..
Mallard T. Drake on April 11, 2007 at 4:44 PM
If memory serves Drudge ran it, but I think that was it.
thebrokenchair on April 11, 2007 at 4:56 PM
There is no profit for Sharpton, Jackson, et. al. in a successful, educated black community. No self-respecting, educated, independent individual would allow either of these opportunistic SOBs to speak for them!
That’s why Al and Jesse prefer to keep their followers poor and ignorant. They actually love it when someone like Imus comes along with a comment like his because it’s free publicity for them.
Have either of them ever earned an honest buck?
LonelyMassRepublican on April 11, 2007 at 5:06 PM
Finally. The beginnings of a serious discussion on race relations in this country.
csdeven on April 11, 2007 at 6:40 PM
Conspiracy theory much?
Nonfactor on April 11, 2007 at 7:26 PM
Michelle has hit the ball out of the park once again. At times like this, her pen is truly a “clarion”. I wonder what Bill Cosby will say about those X rated lyrics?
However, I wish Michelle wouldn’t have use the phrase “A pox on all their race-baiting houses.” It’s not good to curse people.
Zorro on April 11, 2007 at 9:09 PM
FNC just flashed that Michelle will be on the Factor tomorrow night speaking on this topic. Be there, Aloha.
Zorro on April 11, 2007 at 9:53 PM
Once again, Nonfactor is a non-factor.

Because when you don’t want to respond to my post make an unoriginal joke about my name.
Nonfactor on April 11, 2007 at 11:36 PM
Whitlock made the term “Black KKK” popular to describe the thugs that were at the NBA all star game making trouble. That led to the Scoop Jackson vs Bill Simmons/Whitlock mini feud.
Ripclawe on April 11, 2007 at 11:45 PM
It’s sad that the Black American voices you hear from the MSM are racists and con men, when in fact there are a majority of Black Americans that don’t buy into the sham.
Nice article and a good reminder of what we should all be working towards.
