Video: Rosie, Behar, Barbara defend Imus on “The View”

Strange, no? Three liberals, two of them fringe, shilling for a desiccated moron guilty of the cardinal sin of racial insensitivity.

I wonder why.

Hasselbeck does well until she’s worn down by the barrage of stupidity about Nazis and arresting people and the corporate tyranny that would deny a fat idiot the right to be paid exorbitantly for the burden of broadcasting her conspiracy theories to millions of people. Even Barbara tries to grant him absolution by arguing that he’s a “shock jock” and, after all, his record in these matters is clean — the latter of which is a lie and the former of which is irrelevant, as at least one liberal understands.

Should be fun in the comments, though. This may be the first time some of you find yourselves on the same side as Mabel.

Free speech? You’re kidding me, right, fatarse rosie? HATE speech is just ok on your book, as long as it’s against blacks, you all-white woman panel, huh?

Mazztek on April 10, 2007 at 7:15 PM

I wouldn’t censor either Rosie or Imus.

It’s called the free market people. Let the viewers/listeners vote with their wallets.

JayHaw Phrenzie on April 10, 2007 at 7:15 PM

Oh good grief. If Imus had said something as offensive about lebians, you gotta wonder if Rosie would be defending him as much. I don’t think so.

Rightwingsparkle on April 10, 2007 at 7:19 PM

i can’t wait to see how this thread goes.

jummy on April 10, 2007 at 7:19 PM

Rosie is a lib first and foremost. If this had been Rush or Michelle or Ann or Glenn or Laura she’d have been calling for heads to roll.

Tony737 on April 10, 2007 at 7:20 PM

I wouldn’t censor either Rosie or Imus.

It’s called the free market people. Let the viewers/listeners vote with their wallets.

Does no one understand that corporation has every right to fire someone they think is an idiot?

Wow, what a slippery slope the will be if hate-filled idiots start getting fired.

frankj on April 10, 2007 at 7:20 PM

Dare to be Stupid.

Words to live by.

Unless your the Reverend Jackson or Al Sharpton, then you get a pass.

But I don’t understand Allah, Hasselbeck has two fat idiots on either side, is that her right or my right? :-)

Kini on April 10, 2007 at 7:21 PM

Doesn’t the first amendment guarantee free speech won’t be stifled by the government? Libs think corporations are the big boogeyman because they want power to rest with the state. I don’t like Sharpton but its up to MSNBC to do whatever they want. How odd to hear Rosie arguing against PC though? Strange times.

aengus on April 10, 2007 at 7:26 PM

I do find myself on the same side as rosie o’piggo. But that wont last long. Like a blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while, rosie is right on an issue once in a while.

csdeven on April 10, 2007 at 7:26 PM

Is this the same Mabel who claimed homophobia when Kelly Ripa said “I don’t know where that hand’s been” to Clay Aiken?

Actually…is that Mabel defending Imus?

Dear lawd, it’s armageddon!

JetBoy on April 10, 2007 at 7:30 PM

Oh crap, I agree with the view idiots. Time to rethink.

Dash on April 10, 2007 at 7:30 PM

If Imus had said something as offensive about lebians, you gotta wonder if Rosie would be defending him as much. I don’t think so.

Rightwingsparkle on April 10, 2007 at 7:19 PM

Good point. Maybe Imus will do his hilarious “fat dyke” routine tomorrow, and then he’ll have no defenders at all.

BTW, still no thread on Anna Nicole’s baby-daddy, the story that knocked Imus off the cable-news cycle.

Ali-Bubba on April 10, 2007 at 7:32 PM

So if someone said that homosexuals shouldn’t have a public forum, Rosie wouldn’t want that person fired? Please. But then again we are tlaking about the CONGENITALLY stupid here, such as when Rosie said not to fear the terrorists because they’re just moms and dads…the 3000 that died on 9-11 shouldn’t have feared them, right, Ro?

JustTruth101 on April 10, 2007 at 7:33 PM

I wonder if there is a tape of the view after Michael Richards racist rant? That would be interesting to see…cuz you know that a conservative speaking like this would be hung out to dry…Come to think of it hasn’t Joy called Ann Coulter a bitch??

Mellen on April 10, 2007 at 7:33 PM

How can anyone here say that Rosie is right when she’s arguing that a person has a right to be on TV or the radio and can’t be fired no matter how idiotic they are? It’s such a horrible interpretation of the first Amendment it’s disgusting.

frankj on April 10, 2007 at 7:35 PM

This has nothing to do with free speach. No one shut Imus up. He was not charged with anything. This is the case of a corporation feeling that something one of its employees said could be harmful to buisness and it took the actions it felt was apropriate.

No one can shut him up, but no one can guarentee him a job either.

SnakeintheGrass on April 10, 2007 at 7:38 PM

frankj on April 10, 2007 at 7:35 PM

That isn’t what I am arguing. I am arguing against PCness being used to stifle free speech. Specifically when that free speech is akin to the famous “sticks and stones” rhyme.

csdeven on April 10, 2007 at 7:40 PM

Look WE ARE AT WAR! Not just with the Jihadis but Rosie and people like her. Imus, Ober, Rosie, etc. Take them all out any chance we get.

Dump Imus because he stepped over the line. The holier than thou (in the SP PC church) attitude warrants his destruction.

Consider this, Imus’ fate may pave the way for Rosie’s.

All this free market talk is great, but this enemy does not respect the people that make up that market. They will ignore data and take losses for years, because they are already rich.

Agrippa2k on April 10, 2007 at 7:41 PM

The lapdog lefty audience wasn’t sure how to respond.

BTW, Imus and family are friends of The View.

Valiant on April 10, 2007 at 7:42 PM

I wish Elisabeth would have called them on hate crimes more.

SCGOPgirl on April 10, 2007 at 7:43 PM

I just saw the team on TV.

Didn’t see a nappy head amongst them.

So, apparently Imus was at MINIMUM half wrong.

Never cared for Imus, Even if he was completely correct, it would have been rude and useless at best to say what he said.

Why isn’t he in rehab yet???

This whole thing shouldn’t be headline news; Just taking away from really important world shaking events like the most recent developments about Anna Nichole Smith.

Sorry about me mixing sarcasm with being straightforward here folks. I’m not sure which is which, either.

LegendHasIt on April 10, 2007 at 7:43 PM

Here’s the thing. Yes, we have the right of free speech in this country. However, that doesn’t mean that there are no consequences for that speech. The government may not step in and arrest Imus, but his employer definately has the right (and obligation) to do whatever they see fit to do about it. What he said is not just affecting himself, it is affecting his company and because he is saying these things over the airwaves, it has affected the public.

If any regular person started making racist comments at their job, I think the company would certainly have the right and obligation to do something about it.

Elizabeth is correct, we have to take responsibility for our actions (including speech) and accept whatever consequences may come as a result of them.

rising21 on April 10, 2007 at 7:44 PM

Why can’t EVERYBODY just grasp the idea of free speech?

If you stand on foreign soil and criticize the troops on the eve of war … you’re not a “Nazi,” you’re an idiot, but that’s your free speech right. When I criticize your speech, I’m not a “Nazi,” that’s just me exercising the same right to freedom of speech.

If the Minutemen speak on illegal immigration at your university, they aren’t “Nazis,” they’re just voicing an opinion differnt perhaps than yours … and the only arguable fascists around would be those trying to silence them. Instead, you take your turn and exercise your free speech rights … and you won’t be a Nazi, either (as long as you keep your pies and pastries to yourselves and let the speaker, you know, speak …)

If you call a presidential candidate a “faggot,” you’re not a “Nazi,” you’re just an unthinking idiot exercising your free speech rights, and if I decide to criticize that speech, you can label me “P.C” or a “Nazi” or anything you like, but in reality, I’m just using those same rights you don’t understand.

And dearest Rosie and friends, when an idiot like Imus makes braindead comments, he isn’t a “Nazi,” he’s just yet another idiot enjoying the rights I provided him with my service …. and those people criticizing him – including his bosses – aren’t “Nazi’s,” they’re just voicing THEIR opinions and – you guessed it – enjoying those same freedoms that too many people, on both sides of the fence, would prefer to divvy up unequally, depending on whether they AGREE with what’s being said.

It is a crying shame that far too many people don’t understand what I just wrote. I like to think that the majority of those people are on the political left, but there are plenty right here at this blog, too.

Freedom is grand. Understand it. Use it. When someone shares their idea, arguet the idea – not the person. The second you label someone “P.C.” or a “Nazi” or anything equally stupid, you just lost the debate. Every time. Period. You’re out of ideas. And you’re minimizing the impact of truly dangerous political correctness and truly horrific fascism.

Enjoy your freedoms. Let everyone enjoy theirs.

And yes, you’re welcome.

rising21 on April 10, 2007 at 7:44 PM

I can agree with that as long as only the injured parties are the persons involved. The idea that this hurts people all over the country is BS. Anyone except the players, their family, etc, that were “hurt” by this need to go get a real life.

csdeven on April 10, 2007 at 7:52 PM

I just saw the team on TV.

Didn’t see a nappy head amongst them.

I noticed that too. Perhaps, at game time, they had something better to do than keep from sweating so that their hair wouldn’t revert.

baldilocks on April 10, 2007 at 7:58 PM

I wish Elisabeth would have called them on hate crimes more.

SCGOPgirl on April 10, 2007 at 7:43 PM

So do I because Behar’s statement about crime and hate crime was ridiculous.

Glynn on April 10, 2007 at 8:02 PM

I wrote this on one of the other Imus threads:

I do wish all of [the Rutgers girls] would have gotten together, bought a bunch of Angela Davis-type afro wigs and worn them to the presser. The team leader could have gone up to the podium, pointed to the wig and said “See Mr. Imus? This is the definition of nappy.”

That way they could have demontrated leadership, a sense of humor and could have sent Imus a big fat “bite me, old man” in one fell swoop.

Perhaps I spent too long in the military. :-)

baldilocks on April 10, 2007 at 8:03 PM

According to liberals its perfectly oK to hate only if your another liberal or a celebrity.

It isnt about hate its all about elitism. They as celebrities DESERVE more rights than the average joe.

That is what that whole speel is all about.

Same think with Mrs Edwards and her “Hate Speech” about republicans. She weathy and she has more rights than others.

William Amos on April 10, 2007 at 8:05 PM

Imagine a world in which everyone said exactly what was on their mind 100% of the time.

Glynn on April 10, 2007 at 8:14 PM

I cannot make up my mind about this trivial I-man situation. Most of the time I cannot stand to listen/watch the show but it is on every morning here as my better half likes it. On the other hand every once in a while I find my self laughing my ass off at some shtick they pull on the show and laughter in the AM is hard to come by for me.

kahall on April 10, 2007 at 8:16 PM

Rosie makes the same stupid mistake that all liberals make. Imus has freedom of speech. What he does NOT have is freedom from accountability for that speech. Imus’ bosses do NOT have to withstand his foolishness.

Dimbulb that Rosie is, she thinks- no wait- you need a brain to think.

I don’t dare watch the video. Watching sweet Lizzie get badgered by the Devourer of Worlds would be too much for my heart to take.

Darth Executor on April 10, 2007 at 8:36 PM

So if Elizabeth called Rosie a faggot or a dyke, all would be cool? Or how about if she turned to Joy and referred to her as a dago? Or asked Babs how the Jew canoe is driving? Of course it would not be a fine and dandy…

Pam on April 10, 2007 at 8:38 PM

The sweet sweet relief as we have a another View post. I was getting a little grumpy during the haitus :P

lorien1973 on April 10, 2007 at 8:39 PM

P.S. I don’t think Imus should have been suspended because he apologized. Elizabeth is correct in that she and Imus work for a corporation and when you are on their dime, you can be fired for bad behavior, or behavior enbecoming of an employee.

Rosie can say what she wants on her blog, but when she is on the air, she works under the rules of ABC.

Pam on April 10, 2007 at 8:42 PM

Hmmm . . . Allah Pundit, I’d say you have a problem with truth in advertising for not showing the tape from Monday’s show, which maybe you didn’t see, but you direly need to.

I just watched it after a Passover absence, and your girl, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, is applauding Al Sharpton and his involvement in this because, as usual, she’s too dense and ignorant to know a thing about Sharpton, like . . . Tawana Brawley and Freddie’s Fashion Mart and the Borough Park murder he helped spur (these weren’t in the basic talking points she’s given apparently and she didn’t learn them on “Survivor” or “The Look for Less”).

So, AP, how do you like being on the same side as a person who supports Sharpton’s hypocritical moves in all of this? Please post the video of those comments of Elisabeth’s from Monday along with today’s because the two obnoxious libs, Joy and Baba Wawa, were actually on the right side of that one–and, as is often the case, pseudo-conservative lightweight Hasselbeck was not. Even they were taken aback at her cheerleading for Al Sharpton, but she kept on defending him. Talk about a “barrage of stupidity” (as you wrote)–looks like she’s the central nervous system of it on this (and many other issues).

I mean, you don’t agree with her applause for Al Sharpton, do you? I’d say Elisabeth needs to take a timeout along with the one she recommended for Imus. She can spend the time hanging with her new hero, Weird Al Sharpton. They fired the first blonde young one on “The View”–Debbie Matenopolous–for stupidity. Time to repeat.

Debbie Schlussel on April 10, 2007 at 8:46 PM

Since when is saying “nappy ho” or “you people” illegal? Offensive, yes. Illegal? no. As I said on another thread, all those who are “easily offended” need to grow some. If msnbc wants to fire him, they have every right to. if they want to keep him on, they have the right to do that, too. they might pay with their pocketbooks for keeping him, but it’s their choice as a corporation in our country.
I see a big difference in what Imus said and what Rosie said – Rosie’s comments are borderline treasonous. Imus’, just offensive. That being said, they can both say what they want, as long as they are willing to accept the consequences.

I guess he’ll be off to rehab….

I think that Allah direly needs to post that “dog chasing his own tail” video from last weeks AFV.

I mean, if I were to tell him how to do his job ‘n stuff.

The Ugly American on April 10, 2007 at 10:05 PM

Jimmy the Greek and Al Campanis didn’t break any laws, but their employers fired them for making ‘racist’ remarks.

In the case of Campanis, given his history, I think it was really unfair that he got fired. What he said to get fired wasn’t hateful, it was just poorly phrased.

The sad thing about the Imus situation is that someone like Steve Harvey could say the same thing on his radio show, and nobody would even notice.

The Monster on April 10, 2007 at 10:06 PM

How is it irrelevant that he’s a shock jock? I think that’s very relevant. It was a joke.

Jim Treacher on April 10, 2007 at 10:10 PM

C’mon, Debbie…Elisabeth is not “stupid”…

She’s simply not confrontational enough to counter a heavyweight (pun intended) like Rosie…and for her job, won’t backsass Baba Wawa…

Of course, Ann Coulter sittin’ next to Unstable Mabel would kick in the ratings…I’d have to start TIVO-ing the show daily!

JetBoy on April 10, 2007 at 10:10 PM

Don Imus calls a black woman a knappy-headed ho and he is removed from the air. Snoop Dog calls a black woman a knappy-headed ho and he sells a million cd’s. What’s wrong this picture?

calirighty on April 10, 2007 at 10:37 PM

Speaking of accountability needy liberal slander slingers.

As much as anything parity is at issue here.

The moral standard for free speech sensitivity is set by society as a whole, which as a whole our PC index is far past detrimental.

So far as bias goes liberal prejudice is encouraged and Conservative exposure of that prejudice is shunned.

Accountable parity is why Imus and Rosie et al need to come in line with the same acceptability as the rest of us and free speech standards for our society (in it’s entirety) need to be changed to something much more tolerant, much more blameless and intent accepting.

Speakup on April 10, 2007 at 10:38 PM

“Listen, here’s the thing. There’s free speech in America. You can say anything that you want in this country, and to think that you could be penalized for it, by a corporation is kind of a strange- “

Apparently Rosie has never held an honest job. I can assure you corporate America can (and does)censor speech on the job. Saying the wrong thing can and will lead to disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Ever see that in your employee handbook? I’m sure most of us have. All in the name of being equal opportunity employers who protect their employees from harrassing remarks which promote a hostile work environment (realizes he’s worked for the man way too long). Anyway, most corporations are going the way of total political correctness. I digress.

hotdax on April 10, 2007 at 11:15 PM

Here’s the real thing:

Only Govt can restrict our speech. TV has decency restrictions. But cable channels have only one censor: the viewer. Irregardless if he is a racist in is heat, he enjoys using racist, anti-semetic, sexist jokes for his humor. That’s his Schtick! (a yiddish word for what you do).

Listeneres should stop listening, advertisers should stop advertising when the rating go down, the show is cancelled.

and all his Liberal MSM guests, including McCain, Rudy, better cancel his show. by being on the show you are endurcing his racism, sexism, jewism and otherism i don’t know about yet.

very very mad ambein sandy

hotdax on April 10, 2007 at 11:22 PM

Yeah, Rosie and free speech:

O’DONNELL: Okay Elisabeth, you have to stop. You have to stop. You can ask a question, but you can’t just blather on your opinion. She’s here to talk about that. Ask her a question.

Give me a break……….. I still think she needs to hang upside down, hold a mic with her feet, and let the more intelligent part of her body talk……….(double speak?)

PinkyBigglesworth on April 10, 2007 at 11:31 PM

Nuanced idiot.

Black Adam on April 11, 2007 at 8:13 AM

I was listening to the Jerry Doyle show yesterday and he makes a great point. The real issue is not what Imus said, but where he got it from.
A rapper will make millions off of calling all black women b**ches and ho’s. BET will make millions showing bicini clad women spraying each other with crystAl and grinding all over the rappers in their music videos. The entire culture denigrates women to nothing more then a sex object to be used, abused, and forgotten when worn out.
What Imus said was stupid, insensitive and he should have known better. If his employers decide to fire him then that is their right. He serves at the pleasure of his bosses (unless Congress wants to hold hearings on why he should not have been fired. But he is just a symptom. The disease is the culture that glamorizes the b**ches and ho’s lifestyle.
Sharpton and jesse will captialize on this for at least 6 months. Everyone will forget that they are true rascists. But eventually Imus will be gone and the real problem will still be here.

Wyrd on April 11, 2007 at 9:03 AM

Why does anyone want to talk about that pig Rosie, when that yummy creature is sitting next to her?

Jaibones on April 11, 2007 at 9:10 AM

Imus has said things at least as repugnant as this over the last 30 years of his career as a bitchy a**hole. I’m just curious as to why, this time, it’s a big deal. Anyone who has listened to him knows that he’s a loudmouth jackass.

That said, bringing Al Sharpton in as spokesman for race relations has transformed this episode from tragedy to farce.

Physics Geek on April 11, 2007 at 9:13 AM

Question for the laaawwwyas, law geeks and law wannabes out there:

Since Imus’ speech is within the contexts of his job function, wouldn’t any “free speech” arguments be subject to Garcetti v. Ceballos?

Broadcasters, in particular, are usually subject to a higher corporate speech standard than us joes on the street corner (Exhibit A, Exhibit B).

Ro-Ro’s weak posturing as a free-speech advocate is disingenuous at best. I didn’t see her rushing to AC’s defense after dropping the gay F-bomb at CPAC, or having MM’s back when someone hates on her. She fails to grasp the true beauty of free speech, which is hidden within the principle of personal responsibility and free markets.

No wonder I am always finding myself in trouble with my posts here on HotAir.

Being rude is not a crime.
Being stupid is not a crime.
Imus is rude and stupid.
He may get fired for that, but he’s not necessarily a criminal (at least, for that anyways). I possess some expertise in the areas of rude and stupid as well (as other posters will attest).

This is all actually very good news.
Thankfully, being a dumb blonde is not a crime either.
Lizzy sure is easy on the eyes.

CyberCipher on April 11, 2007 at 9:33 AM

Rosie is right (did I just say that?) we have freedom of speech in this country.

What is not protected by the constitution is freedom from the consequences of our speech.

If I use inappropriate language and personal attacks in messages on this blog, I know what the consequences will be. Imus should be equally aware of the consequences of his own acts.

Two words describe the nuts on The View:

“Hypocritical nonsense!”

You know if this had been Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh (who got fired from ESPN for saying something far less inflammatory), they would be calling for their head on a platter right now. But since it’s Don Imus, Rosie and her gang give him a free pass and cry “first ammendment!”, even though this doesn’t even qualify as a first ammendment issue.
