Red Eye: A few good…ombudsmen?

I haven’t done a Red Eye post in a while. Nothing personal; a man’s just gotta sleep sometimes.

Of course, there’s an easy way to get me to remember to Media Center the show and edit the next day, guys…just sayin’.

If you haven’t seen Red Eye, host Greg Gutfeld draws weird news-related cartoons and then promises to mail them out to viewers if they come up with good titles for them. Gutfeld never, ever delivers on that promise. Evah. Not one time. It’s a stain on his reputation, to say the very least about it.

On last night’s episode, ombudsman Andrew Levy went NUTS about Gutfeld’s failure to remit. In a Jack kinda way.

I haven’t watched last night’s show, yet. So I can’t make a brilliant and pithy comment since I don’t want to spoil my episode. I’ll be back later.

Was it me or was there some tension on the set when Michael Musto was a guest. Is there any dirt there? Please, let there be dirt.

Stormy70 on April 10, 2007 at 5:11 PM

You’ll be seeing that clip again, come Emmy time!

Jim Treacher on April 10, 2007 at 5:20 PM

Was it me or was there some tension on the set when Michael Musto was a guest?

I thought Musto was a great guest and that was one of their best shows.

If I was exec, I’d keep Schultz as producer but pull him from the table–his faux edgy “I’m here to denigrate everything Rachel says the moment after she says it” persona has worn just as thin as Rachel’s relexive blaming of the world’s ills on the Clintonistas.

Producers best when they are behind the camera keeping the show fresh and getting the best performances from all of the panelists; that’s tough to do if you’re in front of the camera antagonizing your show’s female regular 5 days a week.

ScottMcC on April 10, 2007 at 5:26 PM

I’ll actually pause movies to flip over and watch Levy and the halftime report if I happen to be catching up on my unwatched dvds. The best part of living on the west coast - Red Eye is on at 11pm.

rw on April 10, 2007 at 5:26 PM

I stopped watching when the show became PC.

Patriot33 on April 10, 2007 at 5:26 PM

Would it kill Fox to air this show at a reasonable time… say 11PM Central?

Honestly.

Stormy70 on April 10, 2007 at 5:11 PM

Stormy - I think it was just you. There’s no dirt whatsoever re Musto, whom we all thought was great. Sorry!

Levy on April 10, 2007 at 5:28 PM

No, I thought Musto was awesome (please have him on often), but that another guest was snarking at him. I could have been mistaken, but it seemed a little tense. Or maybe I had one too many snorts of the single malt and was having my own personal Red Eye show. It happens.

Google it!

Stormy70 on April 10, 2007 at 5:32 PM

I stopped watching when the show became PC.

I’m pretty sure you can watch the Youtube clips on a Mac too!

Rob Morrow/PeeWee Herman fork over the Toons!

Bryan on April 10, 2007 at 5:06 pm

Here’s how we record RedEye in Windows Media Center:

1. Open Media Center from your Windows desktop (either by clicking on the Green Start Button icon or by pressing the Green Start Button on your remote control device).
2. Select My TV.
3. On the My TV page, select Search.
4. On the Search page, select Title.
5. Type in “RedEye” in the Title box using your keyboard and then click on the series from the list of titles that is displayed in the Guide.
6. On the Program Info page, select Record Series.
7. Select Record All Episodes of New Series

Assuming that you aren’t recording other shows at 2am EST that would conflict with RedEye, your Media Center will now automatically record every new episode of the show Monday-Friday (Windows Media Center skips the Saturday-Sunday replays) directly to your hard drive.

Could someone please tell Rachel that she’s not funny? You think she’d learn after the “two-shot” riff last week, but she really needs help.

Okay, the shopping bag thing she did last night was all right, but it took her a month to work up to that.

Enrique on April 10, 2007 at 5:49 PM

Thanks, Scott. But that’s not the “easy way to get me to remember” to do it…

Bryan on April 10, 2007 at 5:49 PM

Season Pass, dude. Easy as pie.

Stormy70 on April 10, 2007 at 5:50 PM

Thanks, Scott. But that’s not the “easy way to get me to remember” to do it…

Bryan on April 10, 2007 at 5:49 PM

If I didn’t know better, I’d say you’re trying to get yourself back on the show..

Levy on April 10, 2007 at 5:56 PM

Thanks, Scott. But that’s not the “easy way to get me to remember” to do it…

Bryan on April 10, 2007 at 5:49 PM

Okay, I have an idea: Have the “RedEye Recap” guy on YouTube as an unpaid intern for HotAir.com that does the editing/posting work for you on an as needed basis.

Could someone please tell Rachel that she’s not funny? You think she’d learn after the “two-shot” riff last week, but she really needs help.

Enrique on April 10, 2007 at 5:49 PM

That’s kind of what a good producer is supposed to do, rather than berating, contradicting, and generally antagonizing her on camera five nights a week. But hey, what do I know, right?

ScottMcC on April 10, 2007 at 5:57 PM

If I didn’t know better, I’d say you’re trying to get yourself back on the show..

Speaking of which, how about you and/or Gutfeld doing a Vent with us?

Allahpundit on April 10, 2007 at 6:03 PM

Season Pass, dude. Easy as pie.

Stormy70 on April 10, 2007 at 5:50 PM

I agree, but the Tivo subscription is minimum $12.95 a month with 3yr commitment + taxes and you void the warranty if you try to upgrade the box when you run out of space.

The Windows Media Center subscription is free for life and adding more storage is as simple as plugging in a USB hard drive.

Nothing against Tivo because it’s a good product. Personally I believe there are more advantages and flexibility with Media Center.

ScottMcC on April 10, 2007 at 6:08 PM

That rant was brilliant last night. I laughed out lout, which doesn’t happen very often while watching TV shows that aren’t Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, or, The Office.

Keep it up, Levy. Most of the time even the ones that seem to fall flat to the other contributers have me cracking up.

Hey FoxNews, how about a “half hour half-time.”

mattshu on April 10, 2007 at 6:12 PM

Speaking of which, how about you and/or Gutfeld doing a Vent with us?

Now you’re talking.

Re Media Center, its ability to stream video through the XBox 360 is sweet too.

Bryan on April 10, 2007 at 6:16 PM

Road trip to NYC!

In a single afternoon you shoot a Gutfeld/Levy Vent segment for HotAir.com and a Bryan/Michelle segment for RedEye. It’s dual purpose/cross-promotion at it’s finest!

ScottMcC on April 10, 2007 at 6:26 PM

Speaking of which, how about you and/or Gutfeld doing a Vent with us?

Allahpundit on April 10, 2007 at 6:03 PM

Oh snap! Putting a brotha on the spot!

Seriously though, Levy might be an interesting addition to Vent… so long as he left that nappy headed ho Bill at home. I’m still looking!

RightWinged on April 10, 2007 at 6:34 PM

Disclaimer:

I’m still looking!

Probably won’t make sense to anyone who isn’t a regular RedEye viewer.

RightWinged on April 10, 2007 at 6:36 PM

what time is this show on exactly? the ombudsman looks like he needs a nap.

lorien1973 on April 10, 2007 at 6:46 PM

That’s kind of what a good producer is supposed to do, rather than berating, contradicting, and generally antagonizing her on camera five nights a week. But hey, what do I know, right?

Scott - you’re putting too much emphasis on a “producer” title, I think. Bill was in fact hired to be on the panel. And personally, I think he’s fucking hysterical - but of course people’s opinions will differ. Hell, I’ve heard rumors that there are people who don’t think I’M funny, if you can believe that!

Levy on April 10, 2007 at 6:48 PM

lorien1973 on April 10, 2007 at 6:46 PM

Unfortunately, I’ve found that napping cuts into my drinking time.

Levy on April 10, 2007 at 6:50 PM

Bryan… any chance you can also put up a clip of Jackie Mason unloading on Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson, and, uh, pretty much everybody? (Assuming that you could somehow find a way to edit the clip down to something less than 20 minutes.)

Watcher on April 10, 2007 at 6:58 PM

Bill was in fact hired to be on the panel. And personally, I think he’s f**king hysterical - but of course people’s opinions will differ. Hell, I’ve heard rumors that there are people who don’t think I’M funny, if you can believe that!

I think Bill is consistently funny. Nothing to call the neighbors about, but keeping things interesting night after night can’t be easy.

frankj on April 10, 2007 at 7:00 PM

Hell, I’ve heard rumors that there are people who don’t think I’M funny, if you can believe that!

Levy on April 10, 2007 at 6:48 PM

Those aren’t rumors. You are funny. Consistently funny.

If the ratings are good and Schultz receives good feedback from viewers and management, then my opinion on Schultz is obviously counter to the majority. That wouldn’t be the first time.

Hell, for all I know Rachel could be completely impossible to work with, everyone on the set hates her, and Schultz just gives voice to whatever the cast and crew is thinking for the entire 22 minutes of the show! But if I’m being an honest critic of the show as a viewer, his schtick of exasperatedly contradicting everything Rachel says and replying to Gutfeld’s queries with a forced sexual ambiguity can’t possibly be popular with the majority of the viewing audience.

I will say this: The business casual wardrobe he switched to after the first couple of weeks did help Schultz’s image. Excellent decision.

ScottMcC on April 10, 2007 at 7:16 PM

Hell, I’ve heard rumors that there are people who don’t think I’M funny, if you can believe that!

I have no end of sockpuppets.

Schulz is very quick-witted, when he’s given a chance to say more then 3 words in a row! Also, the show is longer than 22 minutes.

Jim Treacher on April 10, 2007 at 7:31 PM

I couldn’t disagree with you more. ;)

I love Bill, don’t take him away. He cracks me up the most.
After you, Levy, of course. Ahem.

Stormy70 on April 10, 2007 at 7:49 PM

Levy, that is the funniest thing I have ever seen.

Glynn on April 10, 2007 at 8:17 PM

Levy,

If you have Bryan on the show again, someone try to ask him better questions than if he knew that Stephen Hawkins had sex with his live in nurse!

Drtuddle on April 10, 2007 at 8:25 PM

Hey, at least I knew the answer.

Not that I’m proud of that or anything.

Bryan on April 10, 2007 at 8:30 PM

Levy juggles midgets. With his brain.

spmat on April 10, 2007 at 8:49 PM

Or Tuesdays with Gut’s mom?

Connie on April 10, 2007 at 8:50 PM

Also, the show is longer than 22 minutes.

Jim Treacher on April 10, 2007 at 7:31 PM

You’re absolutely right and I’m wrong. I should have typed 42 rather than 22.

I default to a 30 show clock rather than 60.

ScottMcC on April 10, 2007 at 9:33 PM

Very nice.

Drtuddle on April 10, 2007 at 8:25 PM

What you don’t know is that Bryan made asking him that question one of his conditions of him agreeing to come on the show!

(The others mostly involved Bosco and waffles.)

Levy on April 10, 2007 at 11:34 PM

Aaron Sorkin is going to want some royalties of this bit Redeye bit!

Drtuddle on April 10, 2007 at 11:53 PM

Bryan can be lured to the show by fresh Coca-Cola. He drinks it by the 2-liter

Drtuddle on April 11, 2007 at 12:11 AM

Levy on April 10, 2007 at 11:34 PM

Liar!

Bryan on April 11, 2007 at 12:18 AM

Roginsky? oh puhlease…..I’m going to bed early tonight.

Connie on April 11, 2007 at 2:40 AM

Bryan, any chance you’ll be posting video of the half time report and the Fox Senior Correspondent segments? My cable went out for about 20 minutes, causing me to miss the best parts!

RightWinged on April 11, 2007 at 3:03 AM

Levy is the best part of the show, easily. That bit was great.

I just wish the show was on earlier…I know, I know, need to get a TiVo, I’ve heard.

That would be great to get the RedEye crew on a Vent.

Bad Candy on April 11, 2007 at 11:52 AM

ROFLMBO!

…cant stop laughing!

Funniest random line:

“Germans don’t sleep with Raccoons!”

Priceless!

-Wasteland Man.

WastelandMan on April 11, 2007 at 12:19 PM

Levy is the best part of the show, easily. That bit was great.

When I first saw the show I thought Levy was just cameoing to help RedEye out. I figured Levy must have his own show cause he carried himself so well and at the same time I was wondering if he was ever in a 80’s Duran Duran cover band.
