Littlest sailor: Ahmadinejad stole my iPod!

This is the same guy who admitted yesterday to getting a “mother hug” in an Iranian prison from Faye Turney.
It’s basically a reality show now, and I’m letting you all know: he’s my favorite character.
Before their release the Brits were given shabby grey three-piece suits made by a local designer and a fake Hugo Boss shirt.
They also got a “granny bag” full of tat including toffees with a label saying “containing pistachio”, a CD and DVD that don’t work and 11 books.
These were in English and mostly aimed at trying to convert the reader to Islam with titles like Youth and Morals by Sayid Lari.
Arthur said of the gifts: “They’re a bit pathetic. I don’t know what they’re trying to prove by giving us books on morality and their religion. My morals are fine, thank you very much. And those suits were an insult. Not only did mine not fit, but it was cheap and tacky and the Hugo Boss shirt was a fake. I could pick up a better outfit at a jumble sale.”"
I love that he’s miffed by the quality of the props they used in turning him into a propaganda tool. Like, if it had been a real Hugo Boss shirt, would that have “softened the blow”?
Here’s the real heart-ache:
When they were first captured by the Revolutionary Guards the crew were searched and all their belongings were seized. Among the kit stolen was Arthur’s iPod, a going away gift from girlfriend Steph Nethercott.
Arthur said: “The iPod was really special to me as it was a gift. It had our song on, Hold Me Tonight by Angel One, which was one of the tunes playing when we first met.
Iran’s planning a full-length documentary on the glorious operations against the Zionist 15. Will the purloined iPod have a cameo? Stay tuned!

Iran has no problem with nuclear proliferation, but they abide by dvd region coding. Maybe the MPAA should be put in charge of dealing with Iran’s nuclear program.

Whew, thank God Idi Amin is dead–he’d be really angry that all he ever stole was an eight-track player and a copy of Hair of the Dog by Nazareth that only played “Love Hurts” over and over again.
robblefarian on April 10, 2007 at 1:17 PM
Do we get to vote them out of the Navy?
James on April 10, 2007 at 1:18 PM
To be directed by Michael Moore.
KelliD on April 10, 2007 at 1:19 PM
Since liberals have not been the least bit offended by Iran’s treatment of the soldiers (there have been no MSM stories on it), doesn’t this give us the green light to convert all the terrorists at Guantanamo to Christianity?
At least he is trying to insult Iran. That is more in the spirit.
januarius on April 10, 2007 at 1:21 PM
Just listened to a clip of “Hold Me Tonight.”
I wouldn’t mourn the loss of that song.
Slublog on April 10, 2007 at 1:21 PM
They guy was just used a propaganda for a maniacal Islamic regime, and his concern is his lost iPod and a fake Hugo Boss shirt? I’m with James. Do we get to vote them out?

Oh, Lord save us. Western civilization has lost.
Film at eleven.
SWLiP on April 10, 2007 at 1:27 PM
Well, I guess Ahmadinejad had to pick on someone his own size. Easy to steal an iPod from someone who looks like he’s 12.

I should probably be asking why, if the Brits had 14 rifles, 2 handguns, communication systems, and a GPS system, “fighting was not an option”, but that’d be beating a dead horse, so to speak.
amerpundit on April 10, 2007 at 1:36 PM
These documentaries have been cancelled because of their truthfullness
Defector01 on April 10, 2007 at 1:37 PM
Yes Arthur, you and your crew are. Too bad not one of them has realized they’ve lost all dignity.
moonsbreath on April 10, 2007 at 1:42 PM
You can’t lose something you never had! And you can put respect on that list too.
LakeRuins on April 10, 2007 at 1:46 PM
I’ve got this mental image of Ahmedinijad over there in Eye-Ran, Members Only jacket in full effect, tell-tale cords from white earbuds dangling off the collar of his fake Hugo Boss shirt — and he’s bussin’ a move.

Between the Sharpton/Imus brouhaha and the Zionist 15/Ahmedinejad tiff you have …the most awesome Jerry Springer double billing ever.
evah.

I think those gift bags should have been confiscated and destroyed. If I were boss of the Navy (ha), there’s no way any personnel would have been photographed opening the bags and checking out their loot like kiddies at a birthday party.
Josephine on April 10, 2007 at 1:56 PM
The poor guy is only 5′1, he gets kidnapped, has his IPod stolen, is forced to wear a suit 4 sizes too big, and now you guys are blaming him for the downfall of the British Empire.
My God, settle down a little bit, give the guy a break. He’s not Jack Bauer or Chuck Norris…he’s just a jolly little sailor who wants to hug his mommy and listen to music with his girlfriend.
JaHerer22 on April 10, 2007 at 1:58 PM
Hehehe. I think that’s the harshest thing said about him yet.

We are supposed to believe that Iran has 3000 centrifuges when they can’t make working DVD’s or get decent quality Boss counterfeits? Come on.
lorien1973 on April 10, 2007 at 2:20 PM
The centrifuges are highly technical items that the pride of the Iranian Theo-technocracy can joyfully accomplish on their own. However, burning DVDs and making counterfeit clothes are Jobs Iranians Won’t Do, so they turn to their illegal immigrant population to do them. Obviously, this latest group, while it did integrate itself fairly quickly into Iranian society and fully adopted Iranian mores, was whisked away before they could divulge the secrets of video copy protection and hand-ticked collars.

Winnie Cooper is going to be so disappointed in this guy.

As a retired U.S. sailor, I have immense sympathy for these Brits. Lord only knows how bad the PC has gotten in the military across the pond. They were obviously not properly trained to do the job they were given, nor what their rules of behavior ought to be if captured. I mean, who wouldn’t confess to lies if threatened with 7 years of prison?
Ok, that was about all I could stand. How could those imbeciles allow themselves to be photographed SMILING in the presence of their captor? There isn’t an American sailor I know that would have removed his uniform without a serious beating, or would have behave as if it was his birthday opening his goodie bag. Those “gifts”, even if they included Rolex watches and such, would have been left on the ground at the first opportunity.
In the military, if you are captured, you have to accept that your life is forfeit, because you don’t WANT your country to capitulate diplomatically to a tyrant for your return. You want them to pay large for the mistake of daring to mess with us.
Yes, it’s too easy for me to say that never having experienced it. But it’s how we’re trained, we believe in winning. I would never have shook his hand, never showed any but a straight face, and never given the media one iota of fuel to portray a fiend as a nice guy. And it would take more than the threat of prison to make me confess to breathing regularly, much less giving the enemy what he wants.
The boy referenced by NRO’s Corner had it right. Face up the bully, and good on you, lad.

They banned guns over there.
Plus they might make a scary noise if actually used.

I think it was in the Hot Air comments that someone said the Revolutionary Guard probably watched the various British boats and picked out the single most ill-trained and least competent crew they could find to exploit…and then waited until they were alone and pounced.
Well, I’m going to have to give a grudging salute to the theofascist thug who came up with this and picked them out.
PS Dead Duck’s post and link at 1:48 still has me laughing. Who knew the downfall of the West could be so much fun?

I’m sorry…..but no self-respecting heterosexual man would ever listen to music like that.
Come to think of it, no self-respecting homosexual would either.

I have to admit that, for the most part I have tried to give these guys the benifit of the doubt, but the more they open their mouths the more embarassed I am for the UK.
Did anyone ever find out anything about the guy that wouldn’t smiling? What is he saying? I’d sure feel better if at least one of these Brits would exhibit some English grit.
csdeven on April 10, 2007 at 6:51 PM
“Hair of the Dog” is a song these Brits should have been listening to.
csdeven on April 10, 2007 at 6:58 PM
The behavior of these hostages is what happens AFTER a Brit is exposed to the public school system.
csdeven on April 10, 2007 at 7:03 PM
I’m afraid the guy with the good sense not to smile probably also has the good sense not to throw himself in the media circus.
see-dubya on April 10, 2007 at 7:21 PM
I’ve changed my mind. Unintended consequences.
Let the sailors have at it all dribbly day on TV. The more we all see of them, with group hugs, complaining about the cut of their free suits, next it’ll be how their steaks were medium well when they preferred rare, so the stupider Iran looks trying to make them out to be “infiltrators” and so forth. Gads. This bunch was literally out for some sun sea and surf.
No Beach Boys. What a lost opportunity.
naliaka on April 10, 2007 at 8:00 PM
The gift bags, oh the gift bags…….. Maybe they were expecting something else.
They could have gotten a T-shirt that read, “I was taken hostage by the Iranian Military, buried alive, left for dead, and all I got was this lousy T-shirt!”
PinkyBigglesworth on April 10, 2007 at 10:13 PM
Dude, ever see Invasion USA? Came out in 1984; was one of Chuck’s many great Golan Globus cheeseball action movies. Chuck and 2 sh*tty machine pistols versus an entire terrorist army. A true guilty pleasure to watch, even better than Commando, although Chuck lacked the John Wayne swagger of Kurt Russell in Big Trouble in Little China. A classic, and much more interesting to watch than these Royal Navy surrender monkeys.
