Video: War supporters confront Democratic congressman in office

It’s Paul Hodes, a freshman from New Hampshire who cast one of the 218 votes that pushed Pelosi’s withdrawal bill over the finish line — barely. Here’s video from Granite Grok of a few of his constituents having a word with him about that. Their points are all familiar; the novelty is watching a leftist having to sit there squiriming and respond without being able to call them a bunch of chickenhawks and storming off.

Levin and Schumer said yesterday that if Reid really thinks he and Feingold are going to answer Bush’s veto by cutting funding, he’s kidding himself. According to Schumer, “We are not going to leave the troops high and dry, plain and simple” — which is completely incoherent given the Democrats’ insistence that keeping them deployed the middle of an allegedly unwinnable war is what’s really left them “high and dry.” As always, they’re trying to have it both ways to minimize the number of voters they might alienate. Even the Onion’s fed up.

Exit question(s):

How many freshman dems will be turning on Pelosi on ‘08?

How many ‘08 candidates will distance themselves from the leftwing kook base?

Theworldisnotenough on April 9, 2007 at 11:34 AM

Lies. There are no war supporters.

Limerick on April 9, 2007 at 11:35 AM

Their is nothing he could say, he says. Meaning there is no middle ground, we have the votes and we don’t care how angry you are.
Once again, the libs consider any argument non valid, by virtue of the people being “angry”, or invlalid because they are “right wing”…the arrogance of the left is incredible.

right2bright on April 9, 2007 at 11:42 AM

I heard the Congressman say something like “you don’t understand the motivation”. This is the standard leftist excuse of good intentions, which is supposed to cancel out the disastrous effects of their policies.

I call Bull Shi’ite on the Good Intentions routine. When we have evidence of the effects of the policies (the quotes from the Vietnamese general to which one of the moms in the video referred) they don’t have that excuse any more. We know what happens when we appear weak and divided; our enemies are emboldened.

The Monster on April 9, 2007 at 11:49 AM

What’s that phrase…the one the Left loves to use…I think it’s called… “speaking truth to power”… yeah that’s it.

billy on April 9, 2007 at 11:56 AM

“you don’t understand the motivation”… because its all about internal US politics and our Pet MSM helping us win elections.

No we do understand your “motivations”.

Romeo13 on April 9, 2007 at 11:57 AM

The congressman is nothing but a stooge doing as the party wants. No mind of his own.

Wade on April 9, 2007 at 11:57 AM

The truth is, he doesn’t give a rats ass about anything those people have to say because he knows they didn’t help vote him into office. When justification for doing the right thing comes as a result of only considering what gets the person re elected rather than simply doing the right thing by your Country, this is the result. IF there was a democrat in the White House and they had gone to war with Iraq in order to enforce the United Nations edicts, it would be “blessed” as a “good war” and the democrat Congress critters would be falling all over themselves to fund and encourage it.

It’s political gaming, but with the security of the Nation, and the free world in general, being at stake in the process.

But hey, let’s just elect a democrat President to go along with the democrat Congress, and let them “discourse” their way around the table for a few years with practicing Islam, and by then the Nations tax rate will be at 50%, you will be a criminal if you own a gun, the free world will be on the verge of collapse, and practicing Islam will have probably murdered who knows how many thousands of American citizens here in attacks, homosexuals will be running Bible teaching churches out of existance in the courts, and parts of innocent babies murdered in the name of “womens rights” will at least be being used for medical research…so MAYBE the American people will rise to the occasion finally and vote the foolish Godless lying bums out…or, maybe not.

NRA4Freedom on April 9, 2007 at 11:57 AM

Elect a Lib and elect his wife! Maybe Ms. Clinton will change that.

Dread Pirate Roberts VI on April 9, 2007 at 12:16 PM

This clip is a sad demonstration of why the war is lost – these people will never get their say in the MSM. The only reason we’re seeing it is because we support independent media organizations like Hot Air that provide us with quality content. The MSM is only interested in the Cindy Sheehans of the world. Until the MSM starts telling these stories as well, the war can’t be won because the public will never fully support it.

Enrique on April 9, 2007 at 12:20 PM

Amen, NRA4Freedom! Excellent post!

stonemeister on April 9, 2007 at 12:32 PM

“There are no war supporters.”

Amen, Limerick… Like all us blood thirsty parents of those that serve really hope our sons and daughters get a chance to mix it up with the enemy…
It has been said that those that serve pray for peace more than anyone else. I know I pray that some day our sons and daughters will not have to go out and defend us. I pray for that EVERY DAY.
This is just one of the insanities of our national divide. Why would anyone think that I would wish for my child to go into harms way? The fact that he/she will if necessary is beside the point.
I was down at the Naval Academy a few years back and attended Catholic mass during a service where children were receiving first holy communion. The priest gave one of the most moving homilies I had ever heard. He said that we, the United States, are the lion and the repressed people of the world are the lambs… We have an obligation to see after the lambs. It really brought a tear to my eye and I thought, if my own parish priest had a line on things like this guy did I would be to church every Sunday.

Please don’t say “Democratic” party. It’s Democrat party. And it irks them no end. :o)

Coronagold on April 9, 2007 at 1:32 PM

ALL Please go to YouTube and rate the video to show your support for these brave families! Right now it has 18 ratings and only 3 stars.

These are the hearty New Englanders I know and love. These are the real people of New England. Not the talking head liberals types from Cambridge who always seem to have grown up somewhere else and failed to leave after they got their degrees.

TheBigOldDog on April 9, 2007 at 1:33 PM

NRA4Freedom must be psychic, except it does not end as nice as us voting the dims out of office. Unfortunately it ends with the end of the free world. In my fearful opinion.
.
May God bless our Troops!

abinitioadinfinitum on April 9, 2007 at 1:33 PM

The dems and radicals say all the time that Iraq is another Vietnam.

If we leave without complete victory, then indeed it wil be another Vietnam. The the dems, radicals, and talking heads of the MSM want it to be another Vietnam so they can say “see told you so”

These deadlines are crap. The enemy will know when we leave, so they can gather more money, buy more weapons, recruit and train more terrorists, etc… It will be a massacre.

The dems will blame GWB for this, ignoring the fact thier part in it. As we all know the left hates GWB more than they care about Americans. The lefts biggest victory was our defeat in Vietnam. They want to relive those glory days.

And another thing, all during the 2006 elections we heard time and time again that we need more troops, give the troops what they need, more armor, to listen to the generals, and fire Rumsfeld.

Well well, here we are after the 2006 election, and they do a 180. And the polls of GWB’s approval rating is low. Allot of us don’t approve because he is not being more agressive and assertive on the WOT.

Shame on the repubs that voted for these latest bills, only because they get some pork in thier districts for pet projects.

pabo on April 9, 2007 at 2:09 PM

That clip of the congressman’s wife saying she doesn’t want another X number of troops dying for a war we can’t win needs to be made a part of the opposition to the congressman’s reelection campaign.

If I were him, I would not have allowed that camera in there. It did nothing but show what a total ass he and his wife are. How can you sit there and spout the liberal talking points to that group of parents? Just sick. And the video shows how sick.

unamused on April 9, 2007 at 2:41 PM

Did you see how Hodes just sat back on his fat ass, in his chair, one leg up, so very comfortable and in control of his little world?

Body language speaks volumes and this guy was all about playing personal defense.

CliffHanger on April 9, 2007 at 2:51 PM

Kerry continued: “We do not—and I cannot stress this enough—want to offend anybody or cause anyone to dislike us for any reason.”
“They’re bogging down the democratic process for no reason,” House Minority Leader John Boehner said. “When we were the majority, we didn’t care how Americans felt—we just did what we wanted.”

I’m pretty sure those are real quotes.
Yeah, that video of Hodes and his disconnect from reality and factual basis pretty much sums up the reasons why I no longer believe in the modern Democratic party.

SouthernDem on April 9, 2007 at 3:06 PM

I have a simple plan for winning the war in Iraq:
1) Kill more terrorists. Kill those who hide them. Kill those who supply them.
2) Educate more Iraqi women. We do not need to respect the mysonginistic culture of Islam. We did not respect the cultures of fascist German and bushido Japan when we occupied them after WWII. We can change a culture.

I also have an idea for troop pull outs. It is time to pull our troops out of Europe. WWII has been over for 60 years and the cold war is over. After we pull out of Europe, after we close our bases in Japan, after we pull out of a unified democratic Korea, then I will be willing to listen to Democratic members of Congress tell me about the date for pulling out of Iraq. I think 2067 or so is a good target date.

Bravo, ladies….bravo.

And thanks to GraniteGrok for sharing this.

The Ugly American on April 9, 2007 at 3:22 PM

What was up with the wife there in the office? For crying out loud, and opening her mouth? Is this how this guy works, with the wife right there?

Get thee back in the kitchen and be barefoot, wench! We the people do NOT want you there! No one elected YOU.

Oh and Pelosi? That also goes for bringing the kiddies into the House, for nothing but a photo op.

CrimsonFisted on April 9, 2007 at 3:49 PM

The “first” angry woman seemed to me to have a “Long Island” accent! What the heck is she doing up there in NH? It’s not the summer yet!

asc85 on April 9, 2007 at 3:57 PM

Get thee back in the kitchen and be barefoot, wench!

CrimsonFisted on April 9, 2007 at 3:49 PM

Classic!

PinkyBigglesworth on April 9, 2007 at 3:59 PM

Ahhh…grandstanding at its finest. It was even edited so the congressman’s words weren’t heard. Bravo. We heard from the families. Yay. Let us stay forever. You know what? I don’t care if the troops are demoralized. We don’t make war decisions based on whether or not it will make our troops feel good. We base them on strategy. The war will gain us NOTHING! Period. So, it is now time to get the hell out. You can diagnose the troops with PWSD. Post Withdrawal Stress Disorder. Give ‘em a prescription and send them on their way.

shackler on April 9, 2007 at 5:12 PM

mkstach on April 9, 2007 at 3:18 PM

If you also include pulling our troops out of Kosovo and Bosnia (anyone remember them?), I will agree 100 percent! Let’s bring the troops home in order of longest length of deployment. That would make the most sense.

RedinBlueCounty on April 9, 2007 at 5:31 PM

Kudos to shackler for missing the point, entirely.

The Ugly American on April 9, 2007 at 5:43 PM

Who elected HER?

Wait … that brings back memories.

Tony737 on April 9, 2007 at 7:07 PM

The war will gain us NOTHING! Period.

Possibly. But if we lose it, we will lose the trust of all our friends and allies in the region and around the world. Just look how the Iranians have been emboldened after taking British hostages with no ill-effects. Imagine if we leave Iraq now, who will fill the vacuum? The Iranians. Do you trust the Iranians??

gmoonster on April 9, 2007 at 11:19 PM

Wow! Now THAT was a great video.

I’m wondering if she’s going to campout in front of the Congressman’s office ala Cindy Sheehan. Wait, I see this video on the nightly news…NOT

It’s nice to see the motto, “Live Free or Die” alive and well in N.H also.

The LINE of the entire video which should be played in the next election…

Congress is trying to pressure President Bush.

I think Congress should put pressure on our enemies!!!!!
