[...] Let’s also stipulate: The Rutgers women’s basketball team didn’t deserve to be disrespected as “nappy-headed hos.” No woman deserves that. I agree with the athletes that Imus’s misogynist mockery was “deplorable, despicable and unconscionable.” And as I noted on Fox News’s O’Reilly Factor this week, I believe top public officials and journalists who have appeared on Imus’s show should take responsibility for enabling Imus—and should disavow his longstanding invective.
<blockquote>Isn’t he the guy going to jail?

And if he wasn’t headed that way, I’d be delighted to lead the torch-wielding mob to get him there. And I’d also like to demand of the parents of the “young men” who stand with their tongues hanging out if they are proud of the self-indulgent slobs they raised and of parents of the the young women who drink themselves into a vertical stupor to pose in front of the baying crowd and leering cameras, if they are happy to see how little self-esteem they gave those girls who think they must do such demeaning actions to be liked or loved, because they got none from their own parents.
Imus didn’t say anything radical. The mass media culture is promoting that girls are “hos.” As I said before, men his age used to find it noble and good to provide a standard of restraint and decorum and gentlemanly behavior, as a guide to the younger generations. But the 60s was all about me-me-me, social dignity be damned.

I mostly agree with what you say. I do think that there has always been kids behaving badly; the difference is now everything is caught on video which encourages more of the same. Technology huh.

It's comedy folks get it or not. Don't like it, don't listen it is as simple as that. Freedom of expression is the rule. While not free it is why I listen to satellite radio (Sirius soon to be Sirius-XM or some such) and have a lifetime subscription. I can hear things just the way they sound, just the way we are, beautiful and ugly and NOT the way soemone tells me how things should sound or the way we should be.

Ok bradky, I respect that. My opinions are certainly not "conclusive" and aretheories. "Interesting"
nonetheless.

I guess we need to wait and see.

But I can also opine that these stories get much much more play than they deserve. And lately it all looks like its coming right out of a playbook.

I think it's wrong-headed and unconservative to be calling for this dingbat's resignation. He didn't break any laws that I'm aware of. He didn't breach contract with his employers. He's guilty of being inconsiderate, crude and tasteless.

Let the market decide. The sponsors will drop him like a hot rock if they perceive him a liability.

The more we demand firings for things like this, the thinner our skin gets. Pretty soon no one can say anything even bordering on controversial. We end up like Europe or ~gasp~ worse.

Bill C.,

Respectfully, I shouldn’t have to tell you or anyone else the harm that is done by perpetuating language that is, by design, or indifference, hateful or hurtful to an individual or a group of people.

By defending Richard Pryor, I feel that, maybe not intended, you are defending a position that is, in this political climate, not acceptable.

See my previous post. (12:07AM)

</blockquote>

Thanks for making your opinion clear. I honestly did not get what you were saying. Banning certain words from the common lexicon in the name of comity is certainly a valid argument. If that was what was happening here I might even agree. I don't like the n-word and avoid racial humor just because it sounds acrimonious coming from a pale American.

What Imus is going through, with a great deal of the fault being his own, is a trial by people who are attempting to enforce a speech code on one set of Americans that doesn't apply to another. That is what I object to. Imus' comment was offensive because he insulted those girls. The Jackson's and Sharpton's of the world are making a racial issue because it serves their purposes.

<blockquote>I am wondering if this is the beginning of the left’s attempt to reinstate the fairness doctrine by generating a “need” for it by holding up Imus as an example.

Of course, it would apply to conservative talk-radio and loudmouths like Imus, but not to Rosie (who after all, is only speaking “truth to power”). /sarcasm

georgej on April 10, 2007 at 4:32 AM</blockquote>

This is why I don't want the right to fall into the PC trap. Condemn Imus for his insulting manner. Hold up Rosie for scorn because of the meaning of what she says. But never say certain words are forbidden to some but not to others. That is a recipe for balkanization along racial and ethnic lines.

You are mixing in quotes and a book you have read and coming up with a conclusion that the "MSM" is contriving to make sure a black man is elected.

I don't see the proof that this is the case. It is an interesting theory but no more so (or proveable) than the theories that Halliburton somehow controls the GOP.

<blockquote>Mr O hit the nail on the head: “Hate sells and MSNBC is selling hate”. Could a clearer point have been made? Imus has been selling this crap right along with Howard Stern. There’s no difference, and his charity off-sets aren’t enough to smooth it over.

Bradky:

My conclusions are based on a lifelong look at the Civil Rights Industry! We have watched them at work for many years. And now we have watched it fade to a near non existance. And it is the fear of its extinction that has started this last wave to keep it alive.

Tell me ONE place in America today where racism is accepted? If you can muster one place that it is accepted, you wont find that it has an ounce of authority in America today. No one has the power to limit the lives of ANY race in this Country.

I encourage you to read Shelby Steele's book "White Guilt; How Blacks & Whites Together Destroyed the Promise of the Civil Rights Movement" He makes the points above that I firmly agree with.

Steele: "In the 60's we made the worst decision in our entire history: to get ahead <strong>by manipulating white guilt."</strong>

OR

Steele: "Anger is a means; a tool; a form of opportunism. <strong>In my entire life I have rarely seen genuine racial outrage."</strong>

I believe that there is movement in its last throes and it is the FAKE civil rights movement of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Julian Bond, et al...

There is genuine desperation that exists to keep it alive, especially since the Left's candidate du jour happens to be black.

I will predict that this attempt to enrage blacks will continue. It will continue in this same media/Hollywood hyped form that it has since Kramer made his infamous remarks.

Have you examined just how many of these types of situations have popped up lately?

<strong>NOT TO MENTION</strong> How many State apologies for slavery have we had in the past two years? Marylanders just said "We're sorry".

It will all begin to come together as we head toward the primary's.

I encourage you to read Shelby Steele’s book “White Guilt; How Blacks & Whites Together Destroyed the Promise of the Civil Rights Movement” He makes the points above that I firmly agree with.

Steele: “In the 60’s we made the worst decision in our entire history: to get ahead by manipulating white guilt.”

OR

Steele: “Anger is a means; a tool; a form of opportunism. In my entire life I have rarely seen genuine racial outrage.”

I believe that there is movement in its last throes and it is the FAKE civil rights movement of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Julian Bond, et al…

There is genuine desperation that exists to keep it alive, especially since the Left’s candidate du jour happens to be black.

I will predict that this attempt to enrage blacks will continue. It will continue in this same media/Hollywood hyped form that it has since Kramer made his infamous remarks.

Have you examined just how many of these types of situations have popped up lately?

NOT TO MENTION How many State apologies for slavery have we had in the past two years? Marylanders just said “We’re sorry”.

It will all begin to come together as we head toward the primary’s.

BTW just out of curiousity, Michelle and Allah if you read this, doesn't it give you pause to be agreeing with the NYT and Al Sharpton? Not that there isnt room for agreement on certain subjects, but still.

Michael Richards I got, certainly, but this comment seems innocuous by comparison. Maybe people are taking his past history into account and I'm not, but I dont get this at all.

<blockquote>At the risk of drawing people’s ire, including that of the goddess, i have to say that hillbillyjim has been commenting here for at least as long as i’ve been reading this site and has always come across as pretty agreeable. Seems like y’all are coming down a little hard on him. And Rush was right about Donovan McNabb.

I'll draw the line in the sand!

ALL* of this is a very calculated effort that I do not think that others have grasped yet.

It goes all the way back to that Kramer moron, then the Grey's Anatomy guy, FIVE recent State apologies, Imus etc...

<em>White guilt (see Shelby Steeles book of this same title) is beginning to fade in America and this is the latest attempt to bring whitey back to his knees begging for forgiveness. The media is in on it and they have a need....they are trying to get a black man elected!</em>
This whole scripted template will continue. What/Who is next?

Geez, how is nappy racist or in any way akin to the real N word? Ever hear of Napster? Guess how that name originated.

http://www.time.com/time/poy2000/pwm/fanning.html

I could pull a hundred song lyrics, hip hop groups, books and everything else with the term in it. Sorry but this is mock outrage by people looking for it.

You dont have the right to not be offended, people need to lighten up. He wasnt inciting and it clearly wasnt hate. He's on a radio program that you know what you're getting when you tune in.

<blockquote>Apparently, Disney wants to be associated with hate. That’s why they haven’t canned Rosie.</blockquote>

Absolutely. Think of the opportunities: Concentration Camp Land; Genocide Village; White Power Camp Grounds. The mind boggles. Who says all the good ideas are already taken???

<blockquote>If your “White”, in any case, you would be “censored”, why bother? All you have to do is sneeze, and say “God Bless You!.

BOOM, you’re done!

Welcome to America?

But if your “African-American” you can talk about “Bitches and Whores” all day long, calling your fellow man “Niggers”, get’s you a spot on the “Grammy’s”.

If you’re “Islam-American” (what ever that means) you can conspire, degrate women, insult gays, murder, just don’t “offend them”, you racist “pig”.

If your “Gay-American”, all bets are off……… you can bend over, get it in the behind on top of an American Flag, and not cause a whimper in the MSM, while you show a raging case of “Genital Warts” on “Good Morning America”.

“Girls gone Wild” during spring break…….. “what the f*&k is that?”

Yeah, this is the country I grew up in, and as old “Eagle Scout”, I am a felon.

The whine of the endangered white male.

You would think if you lived in a country where all 43 presidents have been white males, where 7 of the 9 SCOTUS justices are white, where you are disproportionately in the Congress, in Board rooms, in entertainment, you would think whining would be the last damn thing on your agenda.

Yeah, this is the country I grew up in, where men were men and got the job done without picking at their imagined grievances all the time. Shit, what a bunch of pussies.

BTW, the fella who produces Girls Gone Wild is, shocker!!, a white male.
