Kansas Democrat breaks ranks on amnesty

I can’t find anything to link to, so I guess I’ll have to do this the hard way. This isn’t getting covered on any of the news wires or CNN’s own page, but I heard this on CNN the other day and I chased down a transcript. Sitting in for Lou Dobbs is the wonderfully named Kitty Pilgrim; sitting in for the typical Democratic insanity is Rep. Nancy Boyda, D-Kansas:
BOYDA: Well, I’ve gone to leadership, and I’m very proud to be a Democrat, and I’ve just said, listen, we’re going to have to part company. This whole thing on amnesty and immigration is an important issue in my district, and I think in the entire country.
And on a given day, I said I’m not sure you understand the amount of outrage that’s going on in our country by not enforcing our laws and protecting our borders.
PILGRIM: All right. Congresswoman Boyda, I’d like to actually read a section of this for the benefit of our viewers.
In this letter [signed by 98 Republicans and two Democrats--seedub], you write, “Amnesty encourages more illegal immigration. It tells all those who have patiently waited abroad that they are foolish.” And it goes on to say, “The United States has the most generous legal immigration system in the world. We should take the side of American workers and taxpayers, legal immigrants, and the rule of law.”
What is your chief concern — yes, go ahead.
BOYDA: Let me also say, Kitty, there is — we — there was a letter that was kind of a companion letter that also went to President Bush saying, please, you know, the American people are asking you. And what we’re asking for is that we provide security first, secure the borders, protect the boarders, and then find a way to enforce the laws.
And when I talk to leadership, I just say there’s no trust with the American people after what happened in 1986. Nobody believes that the enforcement is going to come, so show that you’re going to have some enforcement. Show that you’re going to protect the borders, and then we’ll talk about how we take care of the rest of the issue. It’s a huge, massive, massive problem.
PILGRIM: Now, this letter to President Bush talks about the employers, the crack-down on employers. We’ve seen a flurry of raids, very high-profile raids. The numbers not particularly large in — you know, in contrast to how many illegal aliens are actually working in this country.
What’s your view of the efforts that are being made at this point?
BOYDA: Really, we need to start and say our employers need a system that they can even have to verify who’s here legally or not legally. Right now that’s so much of the problem. Employers don’t know. There’s no system. And you just have to ask was there ever intended to be a system?
You know, they’ve had 20 years to put it together, and it’s not together. Well, gee, maybe they never wanted a system. We’ve got to have a system that allows employers to be able to show who is here legally or not and then take the necessary action.
And that’s to me what I’ve told leadership I think that needs to be done first. And then again to continue working on protecting the border, as well. Show the American people you’re serious. And then — then let’s start talking about how we — how we integrate everybody into the country.
Rep. Boyda’s site doesn’t have those letters up yet, but I’d like to see them.

She just hasn’t gotten the talking points memo yet. Wait until Rham-boid Emmanuel and the Clintonistas get to her. They probably some dirt on her, like they seem to do on everyone else.
But yes, as some of you have noted, having a Demo make sense and sound lucid is….suprising.
Even in Kansas, Demos are worried about illegals: it looks like the Condition has spread
Janos Hunyadi on April 8, 2007 at 1:13 AM
I just wonder if the leadership she talked to included Edward Morrow?
All of the talk in the world can’t change the old America hater into a patriot.
Speakup on April 8, 2007 at 1:32 AM
I have been telling people since the election this was no “mandate.” Kansas is a state that gives tuition breaks to illegals. How do you tell the babyboomers in Kansas, whose children make too much money for financial aid but not enough to pay for their grandchildren’s education, that illegals get in state tuition? You don’t, that’s preposterous.
I know Brownback was getting alot of heat over the issue. When I called his office his aid was real snarky. I’m guessing she was fielding many an angry call. Then he goes to speak at the LaRaza national convention? I notice he has disappeared on the issue. Tom Osbourne, second in popularity to GOD, did not make it out of the primaries because he said he supported tution breaks for illegals. Tom Osbourne! The man had the most clout on the state level EVER. I want Brownback to pay in 2010, I think that’s when he runs again.
The Blue dogs ain’t stupid. They know illegal immigration and the lack of progress in iraq caused the turn over in Congress. Pelositics has to be driving them nuts.
Why do leftists trot out polls that less people are identifying Reoublican as some sort of victory? The Blue Dogs are conservative so praise the turn to the right leftists, MUAHAHAHA.

Left overs from the “Scene”…
Oh, you think people are pissed that our politicians have not lifted a finger to secure our borders or enforce our laws? How many more have to die?

What is it going to take, your daughter raped or killed by an illegal alien? Then, the plea, “…Why isn’t anyone doing anything about this?…….” PATHETIC.
To me, this next election is a ONE TOPIC Vote.
SECURE THE FRIGGEN BORDERS!!!!! Then we can look inside, and see who is exactly in this country…………..

I think Boyda probably took a lot of heat for her vote on the troop withdrawl. She is just trying to get her base back. As far as Brownback is concerned, his people are always snarky, no matter what you call his office for. They are a rude, arrogant bunch and I hope it will be the downfall of him.
bopbottle on April 8, 2007 at 7:24 AM
A step in the right direction but she still doesn’t get it. Anything short of sending 30 million illegal aliens back to their respective countries is a perversion of the rule of law.
She alludes to amnesty after enforcement, the American people will not stand for it.
voiceofreason on April 8, 2007 at 9:15 AM
For the record, Boyda’s district doesn’t include Kansas City (it wraps around it), which is represented by Dennis Moore. But thanks for recognizing the correct name of what many people call a “New York Strip”. (How many head of cattle are processed through the stockyards of New York?)
Having lived in both districts, I can tell that a Kansas Democrat is often more conservative than a New York Republican. At least one that gets re-elected. Jim Ryun has already said he’s going to try to win his old seat back from Boyda.

Wow too weird…
I mean I dont know what to say…
wow!
Kitty Pilgrim better than Lou Dobbs!
Pilgrim for president!
-Wasteland Man.
WastelandMan on April 8, 2007 at 12:08 PM
It really doesn’t matter what Boyda says, because she doesn’t represent the dems. And that idiot Dobbs did all he could to help put dems in power. Dems are worthless and dobbs is a fool.
forged rite on April 8, 2007 at 3:09 PM
No one has done more damage to the right and the pubs than Bush and Rove themselves. It’s silly to blame Dobbs and the man is far from a fool.
I define a fool as someone who clings to a party that has sold him out 6 years ago.
voiceofreason on April 8, 2007 at 5:31 PM
Dobbs has spent the past few years obsessing on immigration like a psychotic stalker. He’s also spent the past few years supporting democrats who have the exact opposite view of immigration as Dobbs. That’s the definition of a fool, and the fact that you support a fool isn’t surprising.
forged rite on April 8, 2007 at 6:15 PM
Even though fools don’t realize it, Dobbs is bringing attention to the most important domestic issue faced by the country today. He has had the courage to break the mainstream mold and bring the issue to the forefront of consciousness, a state you apparently know little about.
Being a former Republican myself, I cannot say that I’ve witnessed Dobbs supporting Democrats or Republicans. I understand the bitterness you harbor as I felt the same way when I first realized that I was sold out by my party. You would do better however, focusing your anger on your party rather than those who merely point out facts.
voiceofreason on April 8, 2007 at 9:13 PM
Actually Dobbs is a laughingstock, and if you haven’t noticed his support of democrats then you’ve only been seeing what you want to see. After looking at your blog, it’s obvious you have the same obsession on immigration as dobbs does, which explains why you see him with blinders on. People like you and dobbs and tancredo do more harm than good to the issue of illegal immigration because your obsession alienates people who only have a moderate interest in the issue. Politics is as much about style as substance and immigration is going nowhere as long as people like dobbs demagogues the issue. When a person who seems reasonable becomes the face of the illegal immigration issue, things will get done. Dobbs, tancredo, gilchrist, etc. aren’t that person and never will be. I don’t have any bitterness, i just understand that in order to get things done politically, things have to be done in a reasonable way. And you just go ahead and vote libertarian or democrat or whatever and see how far you get with immigration.
forged rite on April 8, 2007 at 9:46 PM
My apologies……. needless to say, this is an issue close to my family, my country, and my heart!
PinkyBigglesworth on April 9, 2007 at 12:07 AM
I was going to post somethintg Profound, but forged rite already done did it and said everything I was hankerin’ to say and said it better than I probably could have
Dobbs likes to use ‘the border’ and his even more obvious & ridiculous ‘War on the Middle Class’ to go after Repubs and conservatives, with an occasional limp swat at the Demos
Lou quit CNN because they wouldn’t let him edit and essentially produce his own show, and you all can see how Tde & co got him back: Lou is King for an Hour, and does love the sound of his own wankering
Janos Hunyadi on April 9, 2007 at 1:58 AM
forged rite we’ll have to agree to disagree. Such is life.
voiceofreason on April 9, 2007 at 7:56 AM
I live in Boyda’s district and just lemme say this: Just be careful which side of her mouth she is talking out of at any given time. She won a close race against a Rebpublican incumbent in a normaly Republican controlled district, and she is taking a lot of heat for embracing the standard liberal democratic platforms on things like immigration.
Don’t get me wrong, I like what she is say here, but I want to see her really put her money where her mouth is before I believe her.
