What makes you think Iran would be worried about securing nukes?
All of your assumptions are based on the premise that Iran wants to use nukes as a defensive deterrence yet all available information suggests just the opposite. They have repeatedly stated their intention of destroying Israel and western civilizations like here in America. I have no doubt that Iran would be willing to use nukes in a first strike and would give them to other like-minded terrorist organizations around the world.

This is taking the liar at face value, he said this to send us all into a tizzy. The best estimates that came out said Iran was 3 years from a bomb, let alone any major steps towards that goal.

I remember people saying this like that about North Korea just before they tested a nuke. That test may have been a failure as it appears to have been a fizzle, yet that test took place years before all estimates said any test was possible.

You are using rational thought in discussing this – Iran doesn’t use rational thought. It’s a completely different mindset. What is truly scary, is if some mullah over there decides to tell all that it is Allah’s will that Israel be nuked, and that those Muslims that suffer along with the destruction will be taken care of in paradise (seen as martyrs, etc.) – that’s all it takes, and before you know it, mushroom clouds all over the Middle East.

Iran is prooving itself to be a Master manipulator of international image.

Lets face it, they took the Brits off a UN mission, and the world acted SCARED of a confrontation with them… In the Arab world/middle east you only are perceived as having power if you are willing to use it.

I mean… Crap… the world economy is being held hostage by a bunch of people with a 14th century outlook, and we STILL won’t drill in ANWAR? or off the coasts of California or Florida?

Israel, what are you waiting for? Your strike in Iraq over 20 years ago worked wonders; why don’t you do the same to Iran? Your future clearly depends on it.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but this task should not rest on Israel’s shoulders alone. Not to mention that a strategic bombing run on iran’s known nuke sites would be MUCH more logistically difficult and challenging than the run on saddam’s nuke plant.

More to the point, right now iran WANTS us to attack it. Doing so works in their favor. That’s exactly why we shouldn’t do it. Their regime is very very weak. On the edge of collapse, actually. Specific sanctions could and would be very effective. The mullahs in iran run a house of very rickety cards. We need to help that stack fall from within.

It’s both the smartest and most humane way to deal with this threat.
