The PMRC claimed that popular music, especially rock music, was partially responsible for the contemporary increase in rape, teenage pregnancy, and teen suicide. The group’s mission was “to educate and inform parents” about “the growing trend in music towards lyrics that are sexually explicit, excessively violent, or glorify the use of drugs and alcohol,” and to seek the censorship and rating of music.

First you censor, then you destroy. Al Gore would be proud!.

Throw in all the Adam Sandler movies and I’ll burn them myself.

Reign on Meisn’t on DVD yet. I would not be surprised to see Sandler get an Oscar nomination for the role. It reminded me of Henry Winkler in Heroes

There’s a great scene where Sandler calls Don Cheadle a faggot. Cheadle tells him he can’t say that word because it’s insulting to gays, whereupon Sandler laughs at him and explains that Cheadle’s character is obviously heterosexual (he’s married to Jada Pinkett Smith, with whom he has fathered children) so ‘faggot’ doesn’t mean what it means when it’s used to describe a gay guy.

Sandler’s character did have to go into rehab, after a fashion, but not for having said that word. Somewhere, Ann Coulter had to laugh her ass off when she found out about this.

I know most of you guys are bored stiff by the posts about him, but this stuff is important either as sterling example of the symbiotic relationship between secular Muslim dictators and the Islamist nutbags with whom they coexist or it’s the first stirrings of a fundamentalist movement that’s going to destabilize the world’s only nuclear Islamic state. Worth paying attention to either way.

Hell yeah! I can’t watch the whole world, Big A. So I am grateful that people like you can help me. If I end up back in the neighborhood, if you know what I mean, you will have made things easier for me. So keep on keeping on.

In my opinion, you would have been better said if you stated, ” I am not sure who you would rather have in charge of Pakistan right… Nancy Pelosi?

For all his flaws, people must remember what the alternative would look like in Pakistan. And, it is not wise to fall in line with the American press who have attacked Musharraf for years. Probably because he is an ally of the Bush administration and to some, the most important ally considering his domain.

Musharraf has passed women’s rights laws, held democratic elections, allowed further voice for women in Parliament, improved the economy, spoke to an American Jewish Group in NYC, talked about establishing relations with Israel, and has continued to fight the Taliban and Al Qaeda groups in an impossible environment.

Musharraf also attended Christian schools as a child. I know this because my uncle built the school.
We should praise Musharraf and not attack him.

Maybe the guy didn’t beat his wife (or woman) as the Koran dictates. [Note to trolls, yes it REALLY does say that... google it]

Or maybe the women in the movie hadn’t been mutilated.

Or maybe she wasn’t covered head to toe in a gunny sack.

Or maybe she was educated and had a drivers’ license.

This is also a good example of why this same type of assault is not happening in the United States: A relatively sophisticated law enforcement system that would punish such action with years in prison. Our first line of defense, the criminal justice system, is a good deterent – for now.

I am not at all tired of posts on this subject. I think you are correct in seeing these recent incidents in Pakistan as a “canary in the coal mine” moment. Yes, by western standards it’s a bit funny when a bunch of women in white burkas storm a brothel and kidnap the madam. Yes, it seems silly when they burn “Free Willy” in the same pile as porn. But the fact that it’s happening in the Pakistani capitol is extremely disturbing.

If Pakistan’s government flips over to a Taliban regime (and from what I’ve read there are many influential groups in Pakistan that would welcome such a thing), then the current worry over a nuclear Iran will look quaint by comparison.

AP, these kinds of posts are what the “new media” are all about. Fox, CNN, and the three networks should be covering this story. They are not, so I’m glad you are.
