Islamists to Musharraf: Shut down the brothels and video stores or we’ll “take action”

It’s our friend Abdul Rashid Ghazi again, waging low-grade jihad within visual distance of the Pakistani parliament building in Islamabad. I know most of you guys are bored stiff by the posts about him, but this stuff is important either as sterling example of the symbiotic relationship between secular Muslim dictators and the Islamist nutbags with whom they coexist or it’s the first stirrings of a fundamentalist movement that’s going to destabilize the world’s only nuclear Islamic state. Worth paying attention to either way.

They had themselves a big bonfire today, which always tickles me insofar as it makes the Nazi analogy nice and neat.

“If the government says it will launch an operation against us as a last resort, our last resort will be suicide bombings,” Aziz told the crowd. Bearded young men from a seminary associated with the Red Mosque punched the air in response…

“I give a deadline of one month to the government to close brothels and video shops. If the government fails we will take action,” Aziz said.

Students then set fire to a pile of hundreds of DVDs, video cassettes and some broken video players on a road outside the mosque — stock from an Islamabad shop whose owner had agreed to close his business, said Aziz’s brother, Abdul Rashid Ghazi.

“This is porno material and blue films. This is destroying our society,” Ghazi said. Crowds shouted, “God is Great!” when the pile of movies, doused in petrol, caught fire with a whoosh.

The DVDs included films from neighboring India and some Western titles, including a romantic comedy called “Dirty, Filthy Love,” but also children’s movies such as “Home Alone 4″ and “Free Willy,” which is about a boy befriending a whale.

They did a call and response, too: “What is our way?” “Jihad! Jihad!”

The question is, who really benefits from this freak show?

Pakistanis have been astonished as the usually sterile purpose-built capital has also seemingly fallen prey to the radical tendency…

Politicak [sic] analysts are not sure whether the Lal Masjid debacle is a circus laid on to exhibit the power of militants in Pakistan – and therefore to reinforce Gen Musharraf’s usefulness as a balwark against radicalism – or just a plain cock-up.

It’s worth revisiting this post, especially the third blockquote (from WaPo), for more about the maneuvering here.

Exit question: Is that Islamic Rage Boy in the second photo here??

“Home alone 4″ (there’s a 4?!?) and “Free Willy”?

Throw in all the Adam Sandler movies and I’ll burn them myself.

It sure is. Wouldn’t a sitcom with islamic rage boy and green helmet just be the best show EVER?

Perfect places to set up an ambush!

Really? God is Great – or was it Allahu Akbar. Its an important distinction isnt it?

Usually I throw at least one joke (or attempted wisea$$ comment) into my posts. So let me say that the following is in all sincerity — no sarcasm.

I am not at all tired of posts on this subject. I think you are correct in seeing these recent incidents in Pakistan as a “canary in the coal mine” moment. Yes, by western standards it’s a bit funny when a bunch of women in white burkas storm a brothel and kidnap the madam. Yes, it seems silly when they burn “Free Willy” in the same pile as porn. But the fact that it’s happening in the Pakistani capitol is extremely disturbing.

If Pakistan’s government flips over to a Taliban regime (and from what I’ve read there are many influential groups in Pakistan that would welcome such a thing), then the current worry over a nuclear Iran will look quaint by comparison.

AP, these kinds of posts are what the “new media” are all about. Fox, CNN, and the three networks should be covering this story. They are not, so I’m glad you are.

Keep up the good work.

I have always believed the delicate situation in Pakistan is the only reason UBL breathes free air, if any. Keeping the islamists out of power there is more important than getting any one individual. Better to keep killing jihadi foot soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan. Pakistan could trigger the apocalypse faster than anyone if Musharif is overthrown. I’d almost like to see them try.

Another example of the Islamofacist in action: Believe as I do, do as I say, or violence will result.

This is also a good example of why this same type of assault is not happening in the United States: A relatively sophisticated law enforcement system that would punish such action with years in prison. Our first line of defense, the criminal justice system, is a good deterent – for now.

I sure hope Al Gore is taking note of all the “Carbon Offsets” that are being burned…….

If Pakistan’s government were to go jihadi, India would be in an even more grave position than Israel is now with Iran and its nukes. Plus India and Pakistan are right next to each other. Bad business.

I’m pretty sure we have plans, just in case Mushy were to be overthrown, to either destroy or capture Pakistan’s nukes … I hope.

The Islamist movement in it’s pure form was born from the nazi movement. Hilter’s black curse on the world. They’re baack…

Movies like dirty, filthy, love. I wonder what these animals considered too dirty?

Maybe the guy didn’t beat his wife (or woman) as the Koran dictates. [Note to trolls, yes it REALLY does say that... google it]

Or maybe the women in the movie hadn’t been mutilated.

Or maybe she wasn’t covered head to toe in a gunny sack.

Or maybe she was educated and had a drivers’ license.

Allah- I must strongly disagree with you on this one.
I am not sure who you would rather have in charge of Pakistan right… Mitt Romney?
The options are just not that attractive.

For all his flaws, people must remember what the alternative would look like in Pakistan. And, it is not wise to fall in line with the American press who have attacked Musharraf for years. Probably because he is an ally of the Bush administration and to some, the most important ally considering his domain.

Musharraf has passed women’s rights laws, held democratic elections, allowed further voice for women in Parliament, improved the economy, spoke to an American Jewish Group in NYC, talked about establishing relations with Israel, and has continued to fight the Taliban and Al Qaeda groups in an impossible environment.

Musharraf also attended Christian schools as a child. I know this because my uncle built the school.
We should praise Musharraf and not attack him.

What’s with the:

I am not sure who you would rather have in charge of Pakistan right… Mitt Romney?

attack?

In my opinion, you would have been better said if you stated, ” I am not sure who you would rather have in charge of Pakistan right… Nancy Pelosi?

PinkyBigglesworth on April 7, 2007 at 2:53 AM

Actually I think India should worry more about Pakistani nukes than we should. There’s not a lot of love loss there. They’ve been squabbling over the Kashmir area for quite a long time.

Hell yeah! I can’t watch the whole world, Big A. So I am grateful that people like you can help me. If I end up back in the neighborhood, if you know what I mean, you will have made things easier for me. So keep on keeping on.

Throw in all the Adam Sandler movies and I’ll burn them myself.

Reign on Meisn’t on DVD yet. I would not be surprised to see Sandler get an Oscar nomination for the role. It reminded me of Henry Winkler in Heroes

There’s a great scene where Sandler calls Don Cheadle a faggot. Cheadle tells him he can’t say that word because it’s insulting to gays, whereupon Sandler laughs at him and explains that Cheadle’s character is obviously heterosexual (he’s married to Jada Pinkett Smith, with whom he has fathered children) so ‘faggot’ doesn’t mean what it means when it’s used to describe a gay guy.

Sandler’s character did have to go into rehab, after a fashion, but not for having said that word. Somewhere, Ann Coulter had to laugh her ass off when she found out about this.

Islamists to Musharraf: Shut down the brothels and video stores or we’ll “take action”

What happens in Vegas, stays is Vegas.

Yes, I know Vegas doesn’t allow brothels, but go a few miles outside the county…

Students then set fire to a pile of hundreds of DVDs, video cassettes and some broken video players on a road outside the mosque

Kind of sound like the PMRC.

The PMRC claimed that popular music, especially rock music, was partially responsible for the contemporary increase in rape, teenage pregnancy, and teen suicide. The group’s mission was “to educate and inform parents” about “the growing trend in music towards lyrics that are sexually explicit, excessively violent, or glorify the use of drugs and alcohol,” and to seek the censorship and rating of music.

First you censor, then you destroy. Al Gore would be proud!.

I’m nowhere near sick of hearing about this very important info.

Keep it coming, AP.
