Montel Williams: The New Rosie? Cf “Montel Williams ambushes military families”. I took a lot of guff for that second one when I posted it back in March. Here’s what Williams has done for me lately.
Keli Frasier, meanwhile, sat in front of the television with her mother, Audrey Babbel, curled up beside her.
“This is an example of America’s troops today,” Williams said, gesturing to Frasier, the 24-year-old Clifton mother who served 11 months in Iraq and returned home with her unit and appeared on the talk show to talk about her experiences in Iraq and back home.
Frasier suffers anxiety attacks and bouts of unexplainable anger and has been diagnosed as suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
She has been unable to hold a job since returning, but did marry and has a son, 8-month-old Evan. Once Evan is ready for school, Frasier has said, she might consider returning to work or Mesa State College.
Evan toddled and crawled along the floor as his mother was asked whether she wakes up in the middle of the night, sweating and remembering the three attacks she survived.
For Frasier, the sharpest memories are of moments that never made the air from the show taped in New York.
When she told Williams she was treated well by the Department of Veterans Affairs, he seemed to lose interest and moved quickly to another segment, she said.
During a commercial break, though, he gestured to her and commented, “This soldier’s not going to complain,” Frasier said.
She was whisked away to the airport and never spoke again to Williams, she said.
Squeaky wheels, I guess.

News flash: The Democrats are mad at President Bush about something. The word “Swiftboat” features prominently.

A prof at Brigham Young University doesn’t want VP Cheney to deliver commencement at the univeristy. Says he isn’t honest enough. Yet the same professor just thinks the world of Jimmy Carter, the man who ran interference for the likes of Kim Il-Sung, Hugo Chavez and Yasser Arafat.
Nooo politics to see here. Move along.

Via IP, al Qaeda wants to kill the Dalai Lama? Did he have troops based in Saudi Arabia too? What’s his stance on the Palestinian right of return? Why do they hate him?
—
One more: the liberal Brookings Institute refused to employ Ayaan Hirsi Ali because her views on Mohammed might jeopardize a Brookings outpost in Qatar. What’s Brookings’ view on Mohammed?

OK, I get it, Clinton, and other President’s, have used recess appointments. I have no problem with this. I wasn’t a huge supporter of Bolton, but at least he had the cred to do the job.
My problem here is that this guy’s only credentials seem to be his status of “Pioneer” fundraiser. No it’s not illegal, but it’s smelly. And yes, I realize that major donors are often rewarded with ambassador positions. I think this is a major flaw in the way our government is run. Rewarding people for fund raising by making them government officials; doesn’t that feel wrong to anyone else?
If someone can enlighten me to his experience with diplomacy, as opposed to saying “Well Clinton did it too”, I will gladly put my objections to rest.

“Ambassador” is just a title given out because our government can’t legally give out titles of nobility. It’s really no secret.

As between a political fundraiser and some hack from the State Department…
Seriously, do we have any important foreign policy matters to take up with Belgium? Belgium?

That darn Dalai Lama; he’s been such a warmongerer, it’s no wonder the peace-loving Al Qaeda have no choice but to try to stop his evilness.

The foamingly rabid Democrats won’t let Bush appoint anyone without dragging them through the mud. I’d recess appoint everybody at this point. Screw Schumer, Leahy and the rest of the pond scum.

Once you have things settled with Luxemburg, you just copy-and-paste for Belgium.
Besides, Belgium’s real diplomacy is done through Fabrique Nationale.

How typically liberal…very enlightened.

Wonder what Richard Gere thinks now that they’re itching to kill the Dalai Lama?
Why the hell would they wanna kill the Dalai Lama? What does killing a mellow old religious leader accomplish other than making you look like an obnoxious dick?

All that needs to be done in Belgium is to increase the importation of Hoegarden Beer to the United States. Sam Fox is amply qualified to do such a thing, as am I.

I threw this in, because somehow, you forgot it. Tsk. Tsk.

Well, there’s a lot of tension between us and Belgium, as a result of so many people being forced to eat Brussels sprouts as kids.

SouthernDem, I fully agree with you on the sad state that our country sends ambassadors around the world, with zero experience; also,in most cases not even speaking the basic language of the country they’re supposed to not only represent us in, but find out what actually goes on there.
On the other hand, Mr. Kerry should not be the one speaking on this topic.
P.S. I sent you a note on the Tony Snow thread clarifying my misunderstood comment – I was 100% on your side but botched the way I expressed, for which I was very sorry.

Absolutely agreed.
Absolutely no problem. Thanks for the props, Madam!

Heh, SD, good thing you left out the “Mayflower” in front of “Madam” :) Though, after reading that book…the business seems to be lucrative…

David Hermelin was a successful insurance man and Jewish activist in the Detroit area. A major donor to the Democratic party, Hermelin and his wife Doreen lived in Bingham Farms, Michigan in the states wealthiest per capita zip code. They added a banquet room to their home that could seat 200 diners just so they could host fundraisers for Bill Clinton. Hermelin was a nice man by all accounts. The fact that he had no diplomatic experience didn’t stop Clinton from naming him Ambassador to Norway.
