Breaking: Obama raises $25M in first quarter; Update: Poll — Hillary running third in Iowa
posted at 11:22 am on April 4, 2007 by Allahpundit
Just one thin mil behind the Glacier, whose fundraising machine is the envy of the world and whose nomination was, of course, supposed to be inevitable. Reminds me of the scene in “The Untouchables” where they find the accountant in the elevator. Touchable.
I suspect she’ll bringing out the big gun pretty soon. So to speak.

Update: 100,000 donors. The AP calls it, rightly, “eye-popping.”
Update: For comparison, Ryan Sager says Hillary has but 50,000 donors. Big-money donors, to be sure, but stll. He also thinks Obama might well have earned more than Hillary in terms of primary money (the overall figures reflect primary plus general).
Update: Edwards has put a lot of work into winning Iowa so that he can get out of the gate fast when primary season starts, so there’s no surprise that he’s leading the field in the Strategic Vision poll. The surprise is who’s second: Obama, at 20%. The Glacier is right behind him at 19%.

OH, silly me , I misread the headline you typed there.
I thought you said THE MANCHURIAN MESSIAH raised the DEAD….
But to most Libs, that wouldn’t be a miracle either.
seejanemom on April 4, 2007 at 11:25 AM
Can we tax the campaign funds? It is not like they are non-profit organizations. We could wipe out a whole lot of national debt that way.

right.
Well anyway Allah, I said that at Aces yeaterday, I figure Slick can pull in close to half a mil per speaking engagement, so if he does a bunch of those he can easily rack up big bucks for Hill’s campaign and that would help her. She has to look unstoppable to the Dem field, or Obama will beat her.
Bad Candy on April 4, 2007 at 11:30 AM
So what? What does it really mean? Are they going to BRIBE or BUY votes? Probably. And call them investments.
Does it really matter? I’m still not going to vote for either one.
Well, unless they give me a million dollars.
Mazztek on April 4, 2007 at 11:32 AM
Mazz, I think the issue is that Hillary has to hold up the image of inEVITAbilty (Ace’s line) in order to win. The second there’s a crack in her armor, she’ll fall apart. If Obama can hold his own in funds, she loses that aura of invincibility, and her abrasive souless personality will sink her campaign because she won’t draw as much enthusiasm as Obama.
Bad Candy on April 4, 2007 at 11:40 AM
Maybe the Clintons could double their campaign funds by selling their souls to the devil.
Oh, wait ….. can you get a second mortgage on that?
fogw on April 4, 2007 at 11:44 AM
Doesn’t it strike anybody odd that when Bush was bringing in this amount of money there were cries of “corruption” and “too much money in politics” and “we need political campaign reform laws”…
Now, they’re breathlessly chanting on how much money they’re bringing in…
Skywise on April 4, 2007 at 11:46 AM
I thought the big gun was already out. In any event, this will be getting real ugly soon. And, the uglier it gets, the better. It’s obvious that Obama is not going away any time soon, and that scares the Clintonistas.
Rick on April 4, 2007 at 11:47 AM
Just for the record: that pic of Hillary is one of the more frightening images I’ve ever had the displeasure to view.
Malpaso on April 4, 2007 at 11:48 AM
Good point Skywise, I remember all the stories about Bush’s big spooky War Chest.

Skywise on April 4, 2007 at 11:46 AM
Well, they started early in the media by predicting that the canidates would need $100 MILLION + to compete in the elections. So, $25 Mil is a spit in the wal-mart trashcan.
Mazztek on April 4, 2007 at 11:51 AM
Rumor has it, Bubba was out there getting that money for her!

NewsBusters brings up a good point about the MSM hypocricy:
GMA Calls Hillary’s Fundraising ‘Historic,’ But Wants Source of Romney Money
Pam on April 4, 2007 at 11:59 AM
Poor Obama, rising to the top of the Clinton’s hit list is never a good thing.
LakeRuins on April 4, 2007 at 12:02 PM
No, I don’t find anything the left says as surprising when it comes to allegations of corruption. Conservatives are corrupt bigots and liberals are human.
Rick on April 4, 2007 at 12:03 PM
You know, as much as it hurts to say, and believe me its quite painful, If we must have a liberal dhimmicrat as president, Obama is the far superior choice to that sickening pig Hippary Clinton
Viper1 on April 4, 2007 at 12:10 PM
That pic of Mrs. Bill reminds me of the Seinfeld ‘shrinkage’ episode.
infidel4life on April 4, 2007 at 12:12 PM
100,000 donors averages out to about 25$ a person. Of course that is the average but sounds like many of the rank and file are kicking in .. not a good sign for Hillary. If he wins the primary he will do well in the general. If he loses and isn’t given the VP spot some will feel cheated and stay home.
Does anyone really think Hillary would accept the VP spot? Obama/Edwards maybe?
Bradky on April 4, 2007 at 12:19 PM
correction on the math – 250 per person
Bradky on April 4, 2007 at 12:20 PM
He’s further to the left than she is so I’m afraid that’s not true. And it hurts me to say that.
Allahpundit on April 4, 2007 at 12:20 PM
I think it’s all or nothing for Hillary – no VP. Edwards is positioning himself for another VP run, because there is no way he will be the Dem presidential frontrunner.
Rick on April 4, 2007 at 12:24 PM
Is that really true, or is that what Hillary is trying to lead everybody to believe?
Rick on April 4, 2007 at 12:25 PM
I’d tend to agree with AP on this one. He is an unabashed liberal while Hillary is positioning as a moderate. Were she to win she would continue to play that role through a reelection bid. If reelected, well…. all bets would be off on the moderate face.
Bradky on April 4, 2007 at 12:29 PM
Rick, it’s true. People have analyzed his voting record and found that he’s even more liberal than Kucinich.
Slublog on April 4, 2007 at 12:30 PM
Whoops. Messed up the link.
Let’s try again.
Slublog on April 4, 2007 at 12:31 PM
Well I’ll defer to your expertise in that, but what concerns me more is that no Republican has really come out very strong at all, Mitt is raising money and can carry himself better than any other candidate weve seen (IMO) Ive lived with him here in Boston and really Im not all that impressed, particularly after he left Healey hanging in the Gov’s race..
Viper1 on April 4, 2007 at 12:31 PM
Of course It wouldve been nice to see Fred Thompson throw his hat in..
Viper1 on April 4, 2007 at 12:32 PM
Heh…leaving you with Governor Copter Ride.
Slublog on April 4, 2007 at 12:34 PM
Hillary has been VP once, well okay co-President so I don’t think she will take the second spot on any ticket. On the other hand if she becomes convinced that she must be more liberal then the competition this could get quite amusing. I don’t know how she can out liberal McCain but we will see.
LakeRuins on April 4, 2007 at 12:34 PM
And the idea of living another four years (at least) under a Clintonian government makes me want to move Montana and live in a shack in the mountains and write a manifesto..
maybe not.. unless I do..

Governor “If the kids would pull up their pants it would reduce the crime rate” DeVille
Viper1 on April 4, 2007 at 12:38 PM
That’s the point I was trying to make. And, I agree with Bradky in that:
However, on social issues, I don’t see her taking a step back.

Allah, you have obviously fauxtoshopped the Hildebeast picture – good job removing the stream of fire.

100,000 people donated to an empty suit?
I hate America.

Have you seen this site? Deval Patrick Watch. It’s pretty good.
Slublog on April 4, 2007 at 12:50 PM
Rick,
Turns out it doesn’t shoot straight.
That Healy was the best the Reps had to offer is the bigger problem. Still, Mitt isn’t going to get elected to the White House.
Pablo on April 4, 2007 at 12:51 PM
Whoops! That second response is to Viper1.
Pablo on April 4, 2007 at 12:52 PM
I’d settle for half that.

That Hillary picture reminds me of something.
I wonder what it could be?
Nethicus on April 4, 2007 at 1:05 PM
Well, it’s no better further north. Our governor is sans spine, our state’s revenue forecast came in much lower than expected and to top everyhing off, our legislature has decided the time is right for a pay raise.
But on the plus side, if Patrick is as bad as he seems, we won’t be the highest-taxed state in the union much longer. :-)
Slublog on April 4, 2007 at 1:10 PM
I’m thankful I haven’t had lunch yet. That Hillary picture would have made me hurl had my stomach been primed.
At least “her thighness” (thanks Mark Levin) is showing her true colors.

James on April 4, 2007 at 1:22 PM
I must have lost my mind, but I am hoping Hillary is the Democrat nominee. She is to the right of Obama, Edwards, and Kucinich. I’d feel safer knowing she is the worst we could do, than leave anything to risk and have Obama vs a Republican. One scandal, or perhaps having the entire MSM working to elect Obama, could potentially push him (or Edwards) over any of the Republican contenders.
I’d rather take my chances with Hillary. Someone please shoot me.

It would be the first Scooby Doo inauguration in history. She’d rip her mask off to reveal Lenin’s corpse.

And she would have gotten away with it too, if it hadn’t been for those darn kids!!

Comparing the Hill’s $26 million to Obama’s $25 is not apples and apples. Obama raised $25 mill with 100,000 donors. That’s $250 per donor average.
Hill raised $16 million with 50,000 donors and kicked in an additional $10 million from her Senate war chest that she already had from previous periods. That equates to $320 per donor for the $16 million new money.
The big news to me is that Hill only had 50,000 new donors vs Obamas 100,000. If it weren’t for her war chest he’d have kicked her ass.
BacaDog on April 4, 2007 at 4:20 PM
1. There are probably Republicans donating to the one who will take Hillary down.
2. Ubama is going to slaughter Hillary in the debates. I mean it will be a bent over the knee naked butted spanking. He can speak, isn’t screachy, and can think of his feet; unless of course you talk about his ears.
3. Bill Clinton donated against her just so he won’t have to be followed by the media so he can rape in private.

P.S. Yes, the U was on purpose.

Hillary looks like she just caught Bill drinking out of the milk carton.

Ah yes hate makes the world go around, well the GOP world as long as it is hate Clinton’s. I love the unflattering picture, real Pro stuff. Bizarre weird stuff. The most successful Presidents in recent history, presiding over the biggest budget surplus and his wife, a very good NY Senator, in many peoples opinion are terrible, right? I love people that blow off criticism of Bush as “The Hate Bush crowd”, while hating the Clinton’s for what?…..well one thing, they are Democrats. Way to go immature partisans, who are unpatriotic and hurt America and help the terrorist. We need to work together.
As far as Bill being a philander I say: Nut Gingrich, Rudy Giuliani, Tom Delay, John McCain, Mark Foley – are all serial adulterers, perverts and homosexuals, real FAMILY VALUES. ha, ha, ha, ha, hypocrites, hypocrites, hypocrites.
At least the Clinton’s are still married and have a kid that talks to them and is not embarssment to America like the Bush tit twins.
I learned things as a kid and in church. Judge not….Cast the first stone…….know them by their actions not words…….we are all sinners. I was not happy with Clinton and his fat girl hummer, but we would be soooo much better if Hilliary was President today. How do I know? One name, Bush, what can you say; I hope the GOP is proud of this man you got elected. I’m counting the days to get rid of “The Decider”, who I call Bubble Boy, stuck in some Peter Pan stage of development, I wish Iraq was better, I wish Iraq was better, It will get better, it will get better…..Great leadership…..NOT. I don’t see how we could do worse, I’ll even take the Mormon or Adulterer pro abortion, gun control bald ugly one. (Rudy tudy fresh and fruity – wore a dress and lived with gays; him and wife #3 have 6 marriages between them. YOU CAN’T MAKE IT UP! Oh yes, recommend former NY Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik to Bush and nominated as head of homeland security! One Problem Kerik had Mob ties (bribes) and was banging the mistress in an apartment paid for by government for post 9/11 operations. WAY TO GO! Now Kerik speaks on Fox news with the other convicted right wing criminals and disgraced politicians: Nut Gingrich, Tom Delay, G Gordon Liddy) There is always McCain, sunshine up your bum McCain….its so safe and great in this market…..ha ha. Area swept, sealed, 100 armed soldiers, black hawks flying, snipers, body armor. Yea just like Main Street USA. Another Liar.
And you put Hillery down? OMG!
655 days, 23 hours, 23 minutes LEFT!
