“Stop Rosie” petition launches

“Elisabeth Hasselbeck” has already signed and I suspect we’ll be seeing “Joy Behar” and “Barbara Walters” shortly, so get in now — because this one goes right to the top. I myself can’t sign for the simple reason that 40% of my posts have to do with Big Ro; if they ever take her off the air, I’m out of a job. But we all have to go our own way on questions like this, so if you want to send her back to former career of pretending to be attracted to Tom Cruise, I won’t fault you for it.
This isn’t the first time Disney’s had trouble with 9/11-themed programming, is it? Memory lane:
Presenting such deeply flawed and factually inaccurate misinformation to the American public and to children would be a gross miscarriage of your corporate and civic responsibility to the law, to your shareholders, and to the nation…
The Communications Act of 1934 provides your network with a free broadcast license predicated on the fundamental understanding of your principle obligation to act as a trustee of the public airwaves in serving the public interest. Nowhere is this public interest obligation more apparent than in the duty of broadcasters to serve the civic needs of a democracy by promoting an open and accurate discussion of political ideas and events…
Should Disney allow this programming to proceed as planned, the factual record, millions of viewers, countless schoolchildren, and the reputation of Disney as a corporation worthy of the trust of the American people and the United States Congress will be deeply damaged. We urge you, after full consideration of the facts, to uphold your responsibilities as a respected member of American society and as a beneficiary of the free use of the public airwaves to cancel this factually inaccurate and deeply misguided program.
Exit question: Is it 9/11 revisionism that Dirty Harry objects to, or just 9/11 revisionism that implicates Democrats?

AP. I think you are resourceful enough to find plenty to post about without Rosie. Good ahead and sign it, you have lots of support here, including mine.

Out of a job my ass! As long as this is still America, AP will never run out of material!

As much as I hate to say this, keep her on the air. She is very helpful for the Conservative Movement.

I for one wish Rosie would disappear as she is beyond tiresome. Have to admire her gift for self-promotion though. And ask yourself, yes you, if you are in fact an enabler….
It is amusing to consider what the reaction on this blog would be to a similiar attempt to get Annie C or Sean Hannity or someone of that ilk off the air. Oh the weeping and gnashing of teeth, the cries of censureship and the self-pitying bleating–the MSM, the UN, the liberals, the tree-huggers, PETA–are mean.
IMO censureship is self-defeating. It emboldens the object and elevates their argument beyond what it was, it becomes an issue of free speech. ABC will pull Rosie if and when her ratings go down, not before.
Have these folks lived in America long?
honora on April 3, 2007 at 10:31 AM
Rosie is a gift that just keeps on giving. She’s one of the best things to happen to the Republican party.

So, AP, back in high school when they asked “what do you want to be when you grow up” did you fear that unstable mabel would be the cornerstone of your life?
lorien1973 on April 3, 2007 at 10:48 AM
Hey Allah, guess what.
Thanks to your shenanigans, I had a dream about The View.
I was a guest on The View and we were arguing about The View.
It sucked, I couldn’t get in a word edgewise, nor could I tell Elizabeth how hot she was.
I hate you.
Kai on April 3, 2007 at 10:51 AM
Elisabeth Hasselbeck is the hottest woman evah. She could give Aphrodite a run for her money. Too bad she’s married. =(

You have to promise me never to do anything like this again. I am begging you.
honora on April 3, 2007 at 10:55 AM
I’d vote to keep Bluto on the air. She serves as a “left” concentrate, a bellwether really, of the unhinged. Yeah, keep it on the air.

Mea maxima culpa.
My job has melted my brain.
Slublog on April 3, 2007 at 11:05 AM
Yeah, the Catch 22 is that if she were taken off the air, she’d suspect Bush was behind it because her “investigation” was getting too close to the Truth.
I’d prefer to see two things: get someone credible as a guest, and then rig up some sort of turn-based system so ol’ Ro’ couldn’t just shout ‘em down when her brain started to hurt.
saint kansas on April 3, 2007 at 11:09 AM
I have one thing to say: class action suit. Google it.
saint kansas on April 3, 2007 at 11:10 AM
I agree with honora. The best way to deal with it is to not watch her. We still have free speech in this country, however stupid. We also have the freedom to rigorously debate an idea we do not agree with.
I don’t like the idea of censorship because what is a two way street and is determined by the party currently in power. The way things are going, I am waiting for the thought police to show up in our churches to make sure God conforms to their version of tolerance.
Bottom line: Allow all free speech that does not incite violence. Debate the rest.
jman on April 3, 2007 at 11:17 AM
The ‘queen of nice’ goes nuts (LA Times)
RENOWNED metallurgist Rosie O’Donnell proclaimed on TV on Thursday that Sept. 11, 2001, was a more significant date than most of us realized. It was, in her words, “the first time in history that fire has ever melted steel.”
This, of course, came as news to steelworkers, blacksmiths, firefighters, manufacturers of samurai swords and other fools who hadn’t realized that steel is forged in magic furnaces using dragon breath and pixie dust

I don’t know who they are trying to fool. Everyone knows that “Elisabeth Hasselbeck” isn’t smart enough to tie her own shoes, much less find an online petition.

Insult the honor of our most fair Lady Elisabeth Hasselbeck again, fiend, and thou shalt find thyself at the business end of mine blade.

OMG! I agree with Honora too! Let that old battleax keep flapping her gums. She makes normal people realize what sort of company they’re keeping if they’re still in the Democrat Party. Heck, put her on the ticket for VP with Obama for all I care.

Allot of bogus looking names on that list. And allot of names I suspect were falsely inserted. Kinda takes the wind out of the sails of the whole idea.
MalkinFan on April 3, 2007 at 11:57 AM
I am surprised that anyone that dumb can still figure out how to walk with one foot in front of the other. However, if/when she is removed from the air waves, it will be the Dixie Chicks all over again. The libs will cry censorship and ’see what happens to anyone who speaks truth to power against Boooooooooosh!’
I despise the woman, but hopefully they will just keep feeding her rope and let her finish the job herself. Our mole, Elisabeth, needs to keep setting up Miss Bloviate to let her keep scooting further and further out on her branch. At some point, gravity will take over.

Drtuddle on April 3, 2007 at 12:01 PM
It is only a violation of free speech if the gov’t censors. It is a matter of taste when a network puts noxious opinions like Rosie’s on the air. Rosie will still be free to speak when she is fired from the View but ABC will not be adding to her credibility by broadcasting those views.
Boycott ABC and Disney and let them know that you do not appreciate them allowing a ‘truther’ unfettered access to the airways.
If Rosie is saying something that the American people want to hear someone will put her on the air. But if she is offending us she will off the air. That’s our prerogative.
Bill C on April 3, 2007 at 12:02 PM
Uh, yes and yes.
Rick on April 3, 2007 at 12:03 PM
But so far, O’Donnell has gotten a pass because she isn’t a mere wacko but a left-wing wacko. If O’Donnell sounded like Pat Robertson, the network would call in the butterfly net almost immediately. But because O’Donnell’s crazy accusations are directed rightward at that evil George W. Bush, it’s considered forgivable excess.
TheBigOldDog on April 3, 2007 at 12:05 PM
honora, censorship is not the same as being fired. Nobody’s saying she can’t say these things, but they are saying that she shouldn’t be able to say these things when she’s performing duties as a representative of ABC.
James on April 3, 2007 at 12:13 PM
I agree. Also, Rosie rarely lets anyone else give their point of view if it differs from her own. Remember the “blathering on” remark to Elisabeth. So then does she get freedom of speech but no one who disagrees with her does? I don’t watch the show. I never did. She should certainly be able to be challenged on the ignorant and nonfactual things that she says, which is what I see most people here doing.
Glynn on April 3, 2007 at 12:29 PM
Yawn, OK I’ll sign the petition not to watch “The View” on ABC, but it’s been years since I last seen the signal from the nearest ABC television station. The signal is just too weak out here in the sticks.
Jose Chupacabra on April 3, 2007 at 12:32 PM
In the other thread, I discussed this idea.
I also related how gun owners punished Rosie and KMART when she went ballistic over her rabid attack on gun ownership rights.
Jman correctly notes: “We also have the freedom to rigorously debate an idea we do not agree with.”
But we also have the right to withdraw our approval of Rosie, Waters, The View, and ABC, and send our dollars to business who do not advertise on The View.
Freedom of speech goes both ways and we have the right to demand her removal from television as much as she has the right to use television to slander Bush, gun owners, or share her insanity.
The fact is that The View cannot exist without an audience to watch or sponsors to pay.
georgej on April 3, 2007 at 12:54 PM
Agree fully. A petition is not censorship, however. Not allowing diverse views in universities, hitting speakers one disagrees with in their teeth, hurling pies at the likes of Ann C., not printing news opposed to editors/reporters’ political views/agendas, not correcting MSM’s records, printing lies is, not writing about or publishing the Danish cartoons, not teaching about the Holocaust in some of the British schools, modifying history to our likes, etc. is.
I agree, that we should not censor and support all freedom of speech.
Entelechy on April 3, 2007 at 1:04 PM
If one believes Nielsen’s assumption that the View has about 4 million viewers lets do a little math.
141,000,000 registered voters in the United States
IF all viewers are registered voters that works out to less than 3% of the entire voting populus. Not sure why such a small segment is causing such high blood pressure amongst the rest…

I tend to agree…except….did you *listen* to the audience respond to her 9/11 nonsense? Do they give potential “View” audience members a moonbat test before allowing them in?
The “impeach Bush” stuff, no shock at the laughter and applause there…the “Christian Terrorist” stuff a little more shocking, but still,…but the “9/11 Truth” stuff??? Was there really an audience full of truthers? They were actually applauding…cheering her on. Seriously…I can’t believe that even most liberals/View-fans buy into that insanity. ????
What I’d like to see is for them to keep her on, but add someone to support Elizabeth. Unfortunately I’m sure Michelle would rather undergo oral surgery sans anesthetic, but there must be someone that they could get to better counter the blowhard…and speak ‘truth to blather’
pjaromin on April 3, 2007 at 1:11 PM
Keep Rosie on The View and make it mandatory viewing. Nothing illustrates the hate and ignorance of the Left better than Rosie. She’s a big, fat, lefty pinyata of stupidity. Keep the spotlight on her, I say, and quote her as the leading thinker of the Left.
If the lefties are forced to dump Rosie, they might get an effective spokesman. I much prefer to keep Rosie on the air as a Chernobyl of leftist thought. She is the Left’s biggest, and I do mean biggest, gift to the Right.
Stop signing petitions to get Rosie off the air and start sending thank you notes to the radical left for putting their ideas out in the open where sunshine can disinfect it.

I’ve been totally unimpressed with the “most fair Lady Elisabeth Hasselbeck”. She is at least good looking. However I think I could have a more stimulating conversation with bowl of oatmeal than either Rosie or Elisabeth.
Elisabeth has missed too many chanced to lay a serious smackdown on the Vampire Bat.
Pretty only gets you so far… after a few months of speaking to oatmeal, you kick her out of bed and find someone you can talk to…
Replace Rosie. And replace Elisabeth with a conservative with more fire. I’m sure Janie would love a change to lock horns with the likes of Joy and Bawbawa.
E L Frederick (Sniper One) on April 3, 2007 at 2:24 PM
Hell… replace Rosie with Honora…
E L Frederick (Sniper One) on April 3, 2007 at 2:28 PM
Nonsense. Having sweet innocent Elisabeth get bashed by the Devourer of Worlds all the time is a surefire way to turn every red blooded male against the latter.
Darth Executor on April 3, 2007 at 2:30 PM
Elisabeth is there to be a conservative punching bag whenever politics come up. I don’t think she’s stupid, she’s just passive and her passive nature is always locked in mortal combat with her need to fight back against the liberal juggernaught. That’s why she has those cute outbursts where she tells Rosie she’s wrong but then retreats back in her shell whenever Rosie turns her gaping maw upon her. Plus, what’s the point in asking to have them replaced? We can’t. We don’t run the show. We have no say. The liberals run it, and they’re not going to end the torture. Elisabeth is a naive victim, it’s hardly fair to compare her to Rosie.
Darth Executor on April 3, 2007 at 2:50 PM
Wow. Rosie has four kids. If I were them, and I heard my mother say that people with a nasty habit of detonating their own offspring are a-ok, I’d be a smidge nervous.
Tanya on April 3, 2007 at 3:24 PM
It what she has to do to keep her brains from falling out.
Wade on April 3, 2007 at 5:04 PM
The word you’re looking for is “censorship,” and here’s my question for you: is there *ANYTHING* Rosie could say that would represent sedition or treason? She’s telling the world that our government attacked us – any way that wanders into a treason?
Does ANYTHING, in your opinion, meet that definition? Are you aware that treasonous speech is not protected constitutionally, and thus can’t be “censured” (sic) or even censored.
I’m not claiming she’s crossed that line yet. I’m just curious if you even know the line is there.
And you are once again making the same mistake about free speech that liberals always, always make: people calling for her to be fired is not censorship, no matter how you spell it. She speaks; her critics respond. That’s not only not censorship, it is the essence of the First Amendment.
True censorship would be if we – with government collusion – went to her studio and, I don’t know, shouted her down. Threw pies at her face. Actually silenced her. (Hey … that sounds familiar …)
People voicing their opinions about her opinions cannot be censorship. Why do you and your ilk never grasp that? (Well, until the shoes on the other foot, of course. Then you get it just fine.)
And criticizing her an an exercise of pure free speech includes voicing that opinion to her employer. Freedom, baby. Let it ring. Why do you liberals hate it so much, anyway?
As for the rest of your comment, I frankly agree: the brouhaha is keeping her on the air. We are indeed enablers.
But I’m not so sure that’s a bad thing, and your comments make me lean even more that way. You’re obviously annoyed at her stupidity; she obviously makes all moderate Democrats and rational liberals look awfully bad.
So maybe we should be enabling her. Maybe if we were smart, we’d be working to get her a prime time show.
In 2004, Michael Moore almost single-handedly gave George Bush a second term (with a little help from the SwiftVets and FlipFlopper himself). I think Rosie O’Donnell may just give the Republicans the White House in 2008.
Enable away. Nothing defeats liberals quicker than letting people know what they really think and feel.
Professor Blather on April 3, 2007 at 6:00 PM
yep
PRCalDude on April 3, 2007 at 6:19 PM
Rational liberals? Moderate Democrats? You’re going soft in your old age kid. To be honest, I am more bored than annoyed with her. Once you jump the shark, it’s all more of the same. Personally I find Matt’s Dowd’s recent comments much more provocative and troubling than anything the Rosie circus does. But hey, that’s me.
honora on April 3, 2007 at 6:28 PM

President Clinton tried to kill Bin Laden!
He told Chris Wallace he gave the CIA a standing order to kill him!

Why weren’t cruise missiles launched from a US Destroyer stationed and ready to fire on Clinton’s order???!!!!
