Video: CNN reporter denies heckling McCain; Update: Press conference video appears to support Ware (bumped)

Sort of. He denies having said anything at the press conference — but strictly speaking, he wasn’t accused of having said anything. Here’s what Drudge reported:
During a live press conference in Baghdad, Senators McCain and Graham were heckled by CNN reporter Michael Ware. An official at the press conference called Ware’s conduct “outrageous,” saying, “here you have two United States Senators in Bagdad giving first-hand reports while Ware is laughing and mocking their comments. I’ve never witnessed such disrespect. This guy is an activist not a reporter.”
It sounds like he may have been laughing theatrically when they were talking about walking around Baghdad. Soledad O’Brien asks him point blank if he was laughing, and he ducks the question by insisting that he never said a word. In which case, it might be hard to tell what happened from the video of the press conference that he’s encouraging people to look at.
The video’s nowhere to be found yet, incidentally. Maybe it’ll be available at MNF-I sometime later today.
I like the dramatic contempt in his voice when he says the word “blog,” too. Although not as much as I like the reaction it must have generated in blog-hatin’ Matt Drudge.
Update: The video wasn’t playing for awhile there. In case it shorts out again, Spruiell has the transcript — and a good point about the absurdity of the media objecting to anonymous sources.
Update: Raw Story’s got two videos of the presser, one of the introductory remarks and another of the Q&A. Ware is visible in the right foreground, in the white shirt, in the second video when the camera cuts to a shot of the full room. Assuming RS hasn’t played games with the clip, I don’t see anything that looks like heckling or laughing. McCain and Graham are unperturbed and there are no interruptions. The second clip does cut out immediately after the press conference ends, with Ware still sitting in his seat and trying to ask a question, so it’s possible he did something then. But in that case, Drudge’s report is still wrong — he said the heckling happened “during” the presser, while McCain and Graham were speaking.
Update: As of 1:50 p.m., the McCain/Ware items have disappeared entirely from Drudge’s front page. Let’s see if Raw Story forces them back on.
Update: A reader e-mails with a point worth noting: the Raw Story article credits a Michael Ware fan site with providing the video.

Isn’t he just the most clever person?
Babs on April 2, 2007 at 10:40 AM
I noted that before he was asked that question by Soledad that he was laughing in nasty way as he discussed how “the Republican delegation” were making old new again. I am quite sure he was doing the same to McCain.
Rightmom on April 2, 2007 at 10:41 AM
Now you know why he works for CNN.
amerpundit on April 2, 2007 at 10:41 AM
Ware has always been this negative. Consider this, from March of last year, on “Good Morning America:”
Slublog on April 2, 2007 at 10:44 AM
Wasn’t Ware also the first reporter to declare Iraq a civil war?
Slublog on April 2, 2007 at 10:53 AM
YouTube has taken the video down.
I thought CNN thinks that it is unbiased so why did they demand Youtube take it down.
ScottyDog on April 2, 2007 at 10:58 AM
“this Video No Longer Available…” the Demon-Crat machine “Google” protects it’s little commie kind once more…
anywhere else to post it? mmmm LiveLeak.com?

How would he know about the sad realities if he’s in his hotel all day drinking?

Ware, in May 2006, writing in Time:
He’s a happy guy, really.
Reading his stuff in Time makes me understand why CNN wanted him – guy can write.
Slublog on April 2, 2007 at 11:09 AM
if we are going to watch videos online, as conservatives we should not be going to google… the only aspect of my life I let google into, is the Adsense they pay me some $500.00 to put on my website… every click they pay me for is money straight out of George Soros’ pocket straight into mine….
as a conservative you should boycott Google and choose another video site to promote.
Kaptain Amerika on April 2, 2007 at 11:09 AM
That’s one thick southern accent.

Ware is a slick, arrogant defeatist who defines CNN as a left wing biased anti-American network.

Drunks don’t usually remember what they did or said!
Pam on April 2, 2007 at 11:33 AM
So now CNN has their rebuttal regarding Michael Ware on YouTube and it has not been taken down
ScottyDog on April 2, 2007 at 11:35 AM
Ware is a traumatised alcoholic with liberialitis.
aengus on April 2, 2007 at 11:38 AM
Now the gutless bum cowering and denying. On the other hand, he fits in well with the rest of those CNN dolts.

His nose looks like someone punched it crooked.
I’ll bet a year’s pay he deserved that punch.

“This, is CNN.”

F*ck him. And CNN, too.
georgej on April 2, 2007 at 12:22 PM
I haven’t tuned my TV to CNN since they accused the US Army of slaughtering civilians with nerve gas in spite of the fact that they had no evidence whatsoever.
I spit on CNN.
JayHaw Phrenzie on April 2, 2007 at 12:24 PM
Just like all members of congress do in anytime they make a public appearance here in America or anywhere else in the world. Do you believe that someone like Hillary DOES NOT have security in place to protect her as she makes her fund-raising rounds here in America? I would bet all that I own the Hillary has both a bullet-proof vest and heavy security every time she ventures out of the Congressional Green Zone called The Hill or her bullet-proof house in New York.
So why did Soledad mention the vest and security? It’s an attempt to impress upon the audience a belief that the surge is not working and that there are no improvements in the security of the general public in Baghdad. Can you say biased?
RedinBlueCounty on April 2, 2007 at 12:46 PM
Is it possible he’s having some kind of nervous breakdown? CNN might want to do something for his sake.
Jim Treacher on April 2, 2007 at 1:00 PM
Hmmm I guess she mentioned it because McCain was wearing it, that isn’t bias that’s the news. If McCain had dressed in a tutu I’m sure they would have reported that too.
BTW Has anyone found any evidence that Ware heckled McCain…..I’m still calling bull on it…..
harry on April 2, 2007 at 1:22 PM
I seem to remember this Ware guy having a fairly sober view of the Dems’ pullout proposal. Are we really throwing him under the bus because he’s ripping McCain? MCCAIN????
Enrique on April 2, 2007 at 1:31 PM
Ware in a couple of months……….
“That’s Right, the New “Mop and Glow” floor shiner can be yours for only $9.95, but WAIT, there’s MORE…….!”

I advocate the “C” chip. With the “C” Chip installed on your TV all CNN content is blocked. My TV viewing has never been better since I installed the “C” chip.
JayHaw Phrenzie on April 2, 2007 at 1:58 PM
He was also wearing pants, yet she didn’t mention it.
forged rite on April 2, 2007 at 2:08 PM
Thanks Drudge!
You’ve allowed Ware to go from an anti-American a**hole who nobody took seriously, to a liberal folk hero who speaks truthiness to power.
‘Preciate it.

To be fair, you are assuming he wore pants.
JayHaw Phrenzie on April 2, 2007 at 2:24 PM
But at least he had the story first!
Drudge is batting what on his “scoops?” .065 or so?
Slublog on April 2, 2007 at 2:32 PM
Michael Ware has his own fan site??? How sad your life has to be to run a fan site for a reporter.
dalewalt on April 2, 2007 at 2:37 PM
Relax people. There’s a reason all the video disappeared. If it supported Ware CNN would be splashing it all over the place.
TheBigOldDog on April 2, 2007 at 3:05 PM
The video didn’t disappear, Rawstory has the unedited video and it supports Ware’s version.

Laura Ingraham’s Opinion Of Michael Ware
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gh6tBFTNWNs
You vouching for them Harry? Why wouldn’t CNN be running the video if it supported Ware? According to AP, the vide raw story has can from a Ware fan site.
TheBigOldDog on April 2, 2007 at 3:14 PM
Seeing this “story” develop and then fall apart was hilarious!
Nonfactor on April 2, 2007 at 3:17 PM
I’ll actually vouch for Ware on this yes. Drudge got his facts wrong and has now even withdrawn the story from his site (without explanation). If you have some factual evidence that supports drudge then post away.
harry on April 2, 2007 at 3:22 PM
The fact that CNN, which has the live video, did not use it when speaking to Ware makes me suspicious. The fact that they asked him if he laughing and he dodged the question makes me suspicious. The fact that the video was no where to be found until so Ware “fan site” provided some, makes me suspicious. Do you think Drudge made it up or do you think an official at the Presser said what Drudge reports?
TheBigOldDog on April 2, 2007 at 3:29 PM
You can have all the suspicions you want there is no evidence that Ware did anything. UDrudge made it up sad to say. Pretty sad.
harry on April 2, 2007 at 3:37 PM
That’s idiotic. Drudge has no way of knowing if Ware was even at the News conference.
TheBigOldDog on April 2, 2007 at 3:41 PM
I have one too – the NYT very recently published an article that a female U.S. Soldier was raped in Iraq, knowing full well that the story wasn’t true. The lady hadn’t even been there.
Schadenfreude goes all ways, and in degrees.

- The Cat
P.S. John McCain is left handed
MirCat on April 2, 2007 at 4:37 PM
Then why did he print the story? If he had no idea if Ware was even there….that makes it even worse and it makes no sense.
Drudge was wrong get over it.
harry on April 2, 2007 at 5:02 PM
I think CNN had Ware on specifically to answer the charges against him, simply showing the video to prove critics wrong wouldn’t be as fun.
Nonfactor on April 2, 2007 at 6:00 PM
Because he got it from a source he knows and who was there. Did you not read the story?
Why not do both? Why ask specifically about laughing? It doesn’t prove anything but it is suspecious. He was gunning for McCain. Why not even ask a question? He raised his hand at the end? They blew him off? They blew off CNN? Uh huh…Something’s fishy.
TheBigOldDog on April 2, 2007 at 6:25 PM
If I or anyone else cared what CNN’s opinion was we pay for it since they are open to selling out to the highest bidder. CNN is just anti-American since we took down their sugar-daddy of Saddam. They’ve openly admitted to being bought and paid for hacks so why anyone bothers with what they say is beyond me.
Faith1 on April 2, 2007 at 6:27 PM
Well this isn’t a conspiracy in the slightest. We know Ware is right here and that’s the bottom line. If there were no video and other people were saying that Ware did ask McCain a question then I’d say your questions are valid, but we do have a video, so they don’t.
Nonfactor on April 2, 2007 at 6:35 PM
TheBigOldDog is right. The fact that the vid came from a Ware fansite, and the fact that it cuts off right as Ware is starting to speak is suspicious. The rest of the vid will probably show up eventually and show that Ware was heckling McCain, but by then everyone will have forgotten about it.
forged rite on April 2, 2007 at 6:48 PM
The conference had completed, there is no story, there was no heckling DURING the conference as Drudge reported.
Geez the more anyone defends this the more the right looks like the far-left.
harry on April 2, 2007 at 7:11 PM
I was just watching CNN, this afternoon, about 5PM. Ware was ripping into the Dems deadline & withdrawal plan, as he has done before.
The war-supporters who lash out at any convenient target, even someone like Ware who agrees with war supporters on one of the key questions, look awfully silly. Doubly so, when he didn’t do what was claimed.
commissar on April 2, 2007 at 7:28 PM
The conference had completed, there is no story, there was no heckling DURING the conference as Drudge reported.
harry on April 2, 2007 at 7:11 PM
Given that the tape came from a fan site and was cut off right when Ware began speaking, it’s more than reasonable to be suspicious. If you want to give Ware the benefit of the doubt, go right ahead. Either way, it doesn’t matter. The official MSM story will be that he didn’t do it, regardless of whether he did or didn’t. I’ve watched him for years and he is as anti-American as it gets. He apparently is against the timetable for withdrawl, but that doesn’t get anywhere near compensating for the past few years of extremely biased reporting.
forged rite on April 2, 2007 at 7:43 PM
Good grief. Is that delusional alcoholic, Michael *HIC!* Ware, STILL considered “news?”
CNN ought to pull him before his bar tab at the Green Zone al-Rashid hotel exceeds the GDP of Germany, and they just paid it last week.
Misha I on April 2, 2007 at 8:37 PM
I nominate this for the Best Post Ever Award.
Nonfactor on April 2, 2007 at 8:58 PM
Geez at least get it right the press conference ended before he got to ask a question. Drudge stated that Ware heckled during the presser. Please point out where exactly Ware did anything DURING the press conference. This is a non-story a hoax and Rather moment for Drudge. Present any evidence that what you think happened happened. If you can’t produce any evidence then I’m sorry it didn’t happen.
The left are laughing like crazy on this one and you’re just giving them fuel.
harry on April 2, 2007 at 10:07 PM
Michael Ware is with you right now isn’t he?
And every time you defend him he tickles your b***s doesn’t he?
Here’s my earlier post-
As you can see, i’m fully aware of how this benefits the left. Having said that, it’s perfectly reasonable to be suspicious for the reasons i stated before.
forged rite on April 2, 2007 at 10:28 PM
And this is from Charles Johnson at LGF-
I know you’ll focus on the no visible evidence of heckling part, and that’s fine, because it’s true. But the rest of what he said is perfectly reasonable.

Hey Nonfactor,
The “story/non story” is the “story”.
Five years of endless, “America bad, Americans killed, Iraqis scarred, Busy is bad, we can’t win, pull out, pull out, pull out…………”
Your Pathetic.
How about I hold your stupid comment over your head, then offer you “reality” check, along with Michael Ware.
In fact, I invite you and Michael Ware to come to California, and just drive the freeways, especially in L.A.
Anytime, any day, or is your outrage selective…….
You, Nonfactor, are a coward!
Why don’t you start, let’s say……….. NOW?
PinkyBigglesworth on April 3, 2007 at 3:44 AM
Yeah, as I thought, a pathetic coward…….. sleep well Nonfactor, dream of joining the Iranian Navy.
When it’s late like this, I get extra pissed, receiving messages from “friends” who are away from their families…
You will find your “ideology’s” rants and hysterics are no longer going to be tolerated…… enough is enough.
I have kept “my powder dry”, and I can see the “white of our enemies eyes”, “foreign and domestic”…
Events are reaching a “critical mass”……..

ABC News did a fair report about the new strategy bringing security for Baghdad citizens.
With the security increase for Baghdad business owners it is also helping the economy.
Only 40% of the U.S. troop surge has been assembled and many positive accomplishments have already been seen.
This new strategy has a serious chance of working and finally providing the kind of marked security improvement the American people have been hoping for.
Hopefully ABC News will be the leader in reporting these positive accomplishments in the future.

Well done, I don’t have spell check on this site like you, and to be honest, I rely on it a work “way too much”, but in a past post, you described yourslef as an elderly lady, just posting your opinions, such a “nice elderly lady”.
Recently, I am just about to call “BS” on you, but I give you one last chance, if you do live in LA, or any where else in Southern California, then you can tell me the difference between the following scenario……..
If I, or you, get pulled over for speeding, get into an accident, drive through a D.U.I. checkpoint, safety inspection, child seat inspection, (remembering we are still living in the USA), and we fail in just one (1) aspect, what happens?
Second question, if you are an illegal allien, with the same test, what happens?
Nonfactor, you amuse me, take your time, but please, answer the question, if you can, honestly….
